Galaktische Weihnachtssocken

As everybody has recived his or her christmas gift, I can show something I’ve been knitting the last weeks.

When I saw the space invader socks on knitty this spring I instantly knew my youngest brother would get them for christmas.

I didn’t change a lot, I did the cast on in black instead in creme, because I liked that more for mens socks. I didn’t decrease stitches for the foot either, because male feet usually are broader then female ones and the nomber of stitches was that, what I normally use for mens socks.

I did not use, as the instruction suggested, circular needles, because I do well with normal sock needles. But I think for that technique circulars might indeed make sense. (The first time that I see there might be a reason tu use circulars instead of “normal” sock needles.

A first time for me was the short row toe. It went fine, but I don’T think this will become my favourite toe, because you have to do a lot of needlework in the end. 😮

The yarn I used is sockwool “trekking sport” from “Zitrone” in black. It touches nicely, but what I did not like too much is, that it is not very firm. I usually knit without watching my knitting and the needle very often stitched only half the strand and I had to correct that rows later, when I saw it. (I have another pair on the needles for my husband, same company, type “trekking XXL”, very soft, but same problem.)

Creme and dark green are “Superba classic” from Rico Design. This one did knit very well, but I’m not sure, whether it will not start pilling very soon. (Will have to ask my brother in some month…)

Needles I used were 1,75mm, that’s what I need to get the “typoical” sock-wool gauge of 30 stitches on 10 cm (36 stitches on 4 inches).

And yes, my brother likes his socks.
