Gruppenstöbern in Paris

Okay, everybody can go an buy fabric. And it’s fun.

Buying fabric in Paris… even more fun.

But most fun is going shopping for fabrics, buttons and ribbons with a bunch of other sewers. And all that in Paris…. could that have been a more perfect weekend?

It was a sooo yummy weekend!

Books, beads, ribbons and wool dominated our friday in the Marais and the old “quartier des Halles”. We started at Mona Lisait, went on to Entree des Fournisseurs to reach the paradise of beading Tout a Loisirs before we reached our late and kosher lunch in the Rue de Rosier. Even though that provided some rest we decided to take the bus to Mokuba and La Droguerie. (Mokuba was new to me, Frau mhs spotted it some time ago.)

All of the shops were delicious… what one of us wouldn’t have seen alone the other spotted… look here! Have you seen that?! Temptation over temptation… designs for every taste… unusual ones you don’t get in every shop at the corner, not even at every corner in the internet. Besides… fumbling the real thing is so much better than any picture on a computer screen.

Only what I did hardly fumble was my camera…. So I have only few pictures. So here only one pic of Saturday morning, showing a part of our group on their way from the hotel to the meeting point. That was the look from my window and when I saw them I knew it also was time for me to got down. (Hotel and meeting point were well chosen…)

But others made pics, too. Capricorna and Kissentante intend to put a report on their blogs and I will put in the next days the rest of the pics in the gallery of the Hobbyschneiderin webside. And the other blogless participants will do the same, I hope.

With big, swollen feet and relatively small bags (those delicious things were small…) we just made it back in time to put everything down and start again for dinner at the Petit Libanais.

Saturday we went up Montmartre. And I had a very good reason to do this on the second day…

Toto is close to a metrostation, so we started there. All five floors… plastic bags and gibber plastic bags… they are of a quite ugly pink, but what was in there was the nicer… And it’s not very expensive there. *g* But this was only the beginning…

After that a walk across the hill (visiting some shoe shops on the way…) and a few minutes later we were standing in the center of fabric stores. in front of fabric stores, next to fabric sotres, behind fabric stores,… and the faces of all Paris-newbies just dropped…. one of my favourite moments when bringing other people there… *g*

Even though some showed signs of “that is too much” we went to Sacre Coupons. What I didn’t know is that they now occupie two shops, therefore have more space. And while tandem was digging in the haut couture silks (that was really luck, they don’t have that always…) while Frau mhs and I went crawling into the knits. Also there the choice became larger due to the bigger surface.

And we had luch more than earned… in a tourist-free zone (yes, even on Montmartre that exists). Only we were so late that they had only three meals left, the rest of us had to choose from the wide variety of gateaus… (Not a real problem, as they are very yummy, too…)

Strengthened up we made our way to Deballage St. Pierre. Another five floors, only bigger then Toto. We worked ourselfes doen from the fith floor to the ground level. And then happened what always happens there… Satisfaction. The bags are full, the feet heavy and the head full of pictures and ideas.

Still on our way to the coffee we crossed two more shops. A new shop with coupons (silkjersey… only in one colour, still resistance was hard. And not all of us succeeded… ) and also Tissus Reine. Patterns of New Look in stock are not easy to get in Germany. Same for patterns in real big sizes.

Late afternoon Kissentante and her husband had to catch their train and for the rest of us we found a very nice and comfy cafe. (And this time we had about half an hour to rest our feet before we started again for dinner at Charles-Victor…)

Also immer mitnehmen.

I hadn’t planned buying a lot. So I was moderate.

My Paris-buys are all on the left: White linen I intend to sew up this month (later more about that…)

Then a red knit with small flowers from Sacre Coupons (knits with print are really hard to get in Germany, so I pick nearly anything I can get no matter where), That I could not leave behind mother of pearl buttons with Eiffeltowers at L’Entree des Fournisseurs I do nat have to explain…*g*

The beads and faux pearls fit the colours of my motivation project of this month. I only have very vage ideas about what I will do with them…

On the right side is the reason why my Paris shopping was so moderate. Sunday we met some french friends for dinner and I already knew that one of those friends hat worked himself mostly through my wish.list for Jo-Anns. (There it took the two nice ladies 1,5 hours to find my wishes, because they didn’t know the product names from their own webside and therefore had to connect with their own webside and search for pictures with the links to the products I had wisely provided on my list… If there were pictures…)

Also, was habe ich… das geheimnisvolle “Bondaweb Wonder Under”, das ich aus amerikanischen Büchern kannte. Es handelt sich hierbei um… Vliesofix. Also Selbsthile…

So what did I get from the US…. the mysterious Bondaweb Wonder Under that I knew from american books. In case you are an American stranded in Europe: the brandname here is “Vliesofix”. It would be usefull if the products did not have different names in different countries…. Then I got sock knitting needles in four different sizes. Fine ones. Theoretically 1.75mm is produced from a German company, only the shops don’t carry them… So it was buying the whole packet from the US. They even have different colours for the different sizes. But what colour is what size isn’t indicated anywhere. Finding out will be a bit hard, as the sizes are only 0.25mm apart… What else? Fine Quiltrs Tape for marking. Should be also available on German online shops but as I ahd this wish list anyhow… Another important thing is the non roll elastic. Just never seen here. And I will be needing it right this months.

Lastbut not least…. paper. A Sew News (nice to read but not nice enough to subscripe), my first issue of SewStylish (I was soooo curious about that…) and some patterns. Thanks to the Dollar- Euro conversion right noe is direct buy a great idea. The Vogue Shirt would match my red knit from Paris perfectly. As would the Butterick dress. And Conny Crawford patterns I haven’t used so far, so I am curious to try…. My bag was quite full on my way back to Germany. As was my head full of inspiration and fun from the shopping we did together.
