Queen of the Deadline…

Sehr effizient.

Also mache ich mal so weiter… 😉 )

… that’s at least what I feel.

There are still some things to blog about the last month, but I think I also should tell you what I am working on now. Because there is a new topic this month and it’s summer dresses.

The pattern from Butterick B5173 I recieved only some weeks ago from the US. I bought it without a specific plan when to make it, so it is quite unusal for me to use it so quickly. But I am very efficient this year with those monthly sew alongs.

But efficiency is needed. Again I have a dead line. The 17th of June the finished dress is supposed to land in my luggage. (Hm.. wasn’t there a time when I did sew to relax? On the other hand it also feels great to have all those finished clothes. So I’ll go on with tha new habit… 😉 )

Anyhow, I have the pattern, I also have a fabric. Not long ago Frau mhs passed it on to me, a white cotton single knit with fine turquois stripes (Schießer probabely?) Well matured in her cellar. And after a 60°C wash, a load of Impresan and some days of drying in the sun the smell of the cellar is mostly gone.

Schnitt und StoffauswahlAch so… erwähnte ich es? Der Stoff ist für das Probeteil. *g* (Reingelegt…)

Did I mention it? The striped fabric is for my muslin. *g* (Got you…)

But this time I want a usable test garment. I’m also in need of a nightshirt, and I guess the knit should make it comfy enough.

The fabrics I have to choose from are on the second picture.

As I already have a red summer dress I’d prefere the blue viscose knit with the little flowers. I bought it at least one year ago at Scherzkeks-Stoffe in Aachen. I had nothing special in mind, but as I’m always needing tops and did not at all think about sewing a knit dress I only bought for a top. For that I bought largely, but for the dress it’s at least 30cm missing. And the dress is quite short, so I’d like to lengthen it by some centimeters. Still I bought the perfect matching brown knit for the facings at Alfatex.

The red knit is quite fresh, I brought it from our shopping tour to Paris last month, it’sfrom Sacre Coupons. It was said to bei Viscose, but from the touch (dry and wet) It might also be something polyish. But it feels quite nice and has a fluid drape. And it was a 3m Coupon, so that is no problem. For the facings I am less sure. So I bought several white and (off)whitish knits at Alfatex. Or I might make the facings from the red fabric.

Of course I have already started, on our last meeting on Wednesday I copied the pattern on plastic, taped that together and tried it on. Just to get a rough idea… Surprisingly the waist of the dress was above my waist. Normaly I have to shorten there. After some thinking I decided that knit will not only stretch in width but also in length. I guess…

So I’ve shortened dress front and back by my usual 2cm, took also a bit out at the shoulders and did cut my test fabric. (That took more time than expected because there are those stripes… it does not have to be perfect for a night shirt, but it souldn’t be completely off either.) Now I have one week to sew it, the Capricorna and Frau mhs will check the fit next wednesday. And then it lasts me less than one week to finish it… The fabrics are all out to dry at least… no matter which one I will choose.
