Not yet for the second time

So ganz zufrieden war ich mit diesem Kartenmäppchen ja noch nicht.

Zunächst hatte ich ja beim Bügeln gemurkst und die Kartenfächer waren arg ungleich groß. Außerdem war es dadurch eines weniger als geplant.

Last year I made this credit card case, but I wasn’t completely happy with it. First thing I had made a mistake in pressing the card holders and they were sized very unevenly. And I had only five on one side, not six as planned.

Dann war der Verschlusstreifen ein wenig knapp, denn den Knopf hatte ich ans leere Mäppchen genäht und dabei vergessen, daß das Ding mit Karten drin natürlich dicker wird. Das hätte man natürlich durch Versetzen des Knopfes noch korrigieren können.

Then the closer strip was a bit tight, because I had sewn on the buttons on the empty purse. Not taking into consideration, that it will be thicker once all the cards are in. Okay, that would have been correctable by changing the placement of the snap.

Aber auch die Kartenfächer selber..   na sie könnten tiefer sein, so konnte ich die Karten zwar leicht rausnehmen, aber mit dem weichen Futterstoff rutschten die Karten auch leicht von selber raus. Reste waren noch jeden Menge da, also hier Version 2.

But.. the compartments for the cards were not very deep either. So it is easy to take the cards out, but with the soft lining fabric the cards tend to slip out by themselves. There was still enough fabric, so here is version number 2.

Damit mir nicht wieder so Bügelpannen passieren, habe ich den Futterstoff durch Popeline ersetzt. Ganz dünne wäre gut, aber ich hatte nur mitteldünne und dachte, das ginge auch. Außerdem habe ich die Kartenfächer tiefer gemacht und den Verschlusstreifen im gefüllten Zustand mit Druckknöpfen versehen.

I thought shaping the compartments would be easier if the fabric was a little stiffer. So thin cotton would be perfect. I didn’t have really thin one, so I considered the middle thin one good enough. Also I made the compartments deeper and choose the placment of the snaps for the closure after filling the card holder.

Wie man sieht, war das mal wieder nur halb gedacht: Die Popeline war zu dick, daher wurde das Mäppchen auch recht dick und die Fächer zu eng. Das konnte ich korrigieren, indem ich einige Nähte von Hand anbrachte. Aber dadurch, daß ich die Fächer tiefer gemacht habe und sie enger aufeinander folgen, ist im unteren Bereich “Leerraum” und das ganze Mäppchen ist nicht so stabil.

Nun ja, jetzt benutze ich diese Version, während ich Nummer drei zuschneide…

As you can see I had not thought things through very well: My poplin was too thick, so the purse is quite thick even without anything in. Also the compartments are a bit tight. First they were to tight, the cards didn’t fit in. I could correct that with some hand hemming. But my change of the depth of the compartments brought them also closer together, so now there is “empty space” below the lowest card compartment. Since nothing is stabilized this makes the purse a bit “wonky” there.

Well… I’m going to use this one while cutting version number three…
