Creativa 2014 – (not) a shopping trip

Auch dieses Jahr konnte ich nicht widerstehen und haben mich auf den Weg nach Dortmund gemacht. Und schlauerweise schon mal das meiste Geld Zuhause gelassen.

I couldn’t resist again this year and went to Dortmund to the Creativa. (Europe’s biggest craft fair.) And was smart enough to leave most of my money at home.

Man findet dort ja diese Leute, die morgens mit dem größtmöglichen Trolley anreisen, dann die Händler strikt nach Plan abarbeiten, immer wieder volle Tüten an der Garderobe daponierend und um 15 Uhr mit prall gefülltem Gepäck wieder abdüsen. All dies, ohne jemals rechts und links geguckt zu haben. Was schade ist. Denn es gibt auch anderes zu sehen. Der geklöppelte Edelstahlschmuck von Beatrice Müller zum Beispiel. (Die zurecht derzeit “Weltmeisterin” im Klöppeln ist, finde ich. Wobei ich vorher nicht mal wußte, daß es da eine Weltmeisterschaft gibt.)

At the Creativa you find people who arrive early in the morning, dragging the biggest possible shopping cart behind them. (Which they have to deposit before entering the real fair part.) They have a plan printed on paper and will go from one booth to the next, exacely as planned. Depositing from time to time full bags in their cart and at 3 p.m. they are done and leaving, dragging the now very heavy cart behind them. And never having looked left or right. Which is a pitiy, because you can shop there, but there are plenty of other inspiring things to see. As the stainless steel bijoux above. Done in bobbin lace. Made by Beatrice Mueller who is the “world champion” in bobbin lace at the moment. (I never knew their was a championship for that.)

So ganz ungeschoren kam aber auch ich nicht davon. Daß ich bei Kafka eine Tüte Bandreste mitnehmen würde war ja geplant. Die sind einfach toll und man hat immer was da, wenn man was braucht. Daß dann auch noch ein Meter von dem neuen Rosenband in der Tasche landete…. ja ich weiß gar nicht, wie das passieren konnte…

Buying a small grab bag of beautiful ribbons at Kafka had been planned. That I added one meter of the brand new rose ribbon… I have no idea how that could happen…

Gebügelt sehen die Bänder dann übrigens so aus…. und ich fand meine Tüte diesmal extrem gut bestückt, sehr viele lange Stücke dabei… Kann mir jemand noch eine mitbringen….? 😉 (Sie verkaufen immer nur eine pro Person.)

That’s how the ribbons look after ironing them. And I think the bag was very well filled this time. Very long pieces… Can somebody bring me another one…? 😉 (They only sell one per person.)

Völlig überraschend traf es mich hingegen am Stand von Alterfil… Herr Amrhein verfolgt offensichtlich seine “Made in Germany” Strategie weiter und hat mal eine Kiste Knöpfe von Zwerenz mit gebracht. (Zu einem häßlich geringen Preis, für die Qualität… das war gar nicht gut für meine Widerstandskräfte, wie man sieht…) Im Webshop sind sie noch nicht, soll aber noch kommen. (Die Grundidee ist wohl, im Webshop mehr Produkte aus heimischer Produktion anzubieten, so daß man bessere Chancen hat, die Versandkosten sinnvoll zu verwenden. Finde ich ja schon mal gut.)

Complete surprise on the other side at the Alterfil booth… Mr Amrhein continues his “Made in Germany” strategy and brought a box of buttons by another German company who is still producing here: Zwerenz. (And the price was so badly low for the quality. The pic shows that this was not good for my resistance…) The buttons are not yet at the online shop, but they are supposed to come. (The idea is, to offer a bigger diversity of products in the online shop, to make it easier to get a nice order to reduce the shipping cost per item. I like the idea, of course.)

Außerdem gibt es ein neues Overlockgarn im Angebot (etwas weicher, weil ohne die typische Beschichtung) und eine spannende andere Aktion, die aber einen eigenen Artikel bekommen wird… davon also später mehr.

And they are offering a new serger thread (a bit softer, because it comes without their typical coating) and they started another interesting thing, but that will get it’s own post… so that will be for later.

Bei der Stempelschmiede war was weihnachtliches und es “küchiges” geplant. Tja… aber dann konnte ich mich nicht zwischen den zwei Nähmaschinen entscheide und ein grünes Stempelkissen braucht Frau doch auch, oder? (Der kleine ist aber der Aktionsstempel, den es geschenkt gibt!) – Und ich sehe gerade, die antike Nähmaschine ist von Bärbel, dann ist ja klar, daß die mit mußte. 😉

At Stempelschmiede I had planned to buy one christmas themed and one kitchened themed stamp. But then I could not decide between the modern and the antique sewing machine motive and a green ink pad is important also in life, isn’t it? (The small one is the special stamp for the fair, that is for free!) – And I just recognized that the antique sewing machine is one of Bärbel‘s designs. So I absolutely had to buy it.

Tja… und dann war da auch noch der nette Nähschotte Matthew, der zwar seine Domain schon publiziert, den Shop aber offensichtlich noch nicht online hat. 😉 Was mir relativ egal sein kann, weil ich mich ja an seinem Stand direkt bedienen konnte. Er hat diese entzückenden Reißverschlüsse nämlich in gaaanz vielen Farben. Ich habe mich dann auf drei beschränkt, davon dann aber bitte gleich den Fünferpack.

Well, and then there was this Nähschotte (=”sewing Scottsman” Matthew, who is well publishing the URL of his shop, but the shop evidently isn’t ready yet. 😉 Which I don’t mind because I could shop at his booth directly. And he has those adorable zips in many colors. I managed to stay in control and buy only three… packages of five each.

Und das alles mit nur 20 EUR in der Tasche, für die ich auch noch einige Kaffees kaufen mußte. Wie das geht? Nun… leider haben auch auf der Creativa immer mehr Händler Geräte zur Kartenabrechung dabei und einige schicken mir sogar eine Rechnung nach. Wie soll das mit mir enden, wenn das Schule macht?!? (Trotzdem war ich wohl die Einzige, die mit nur einer Tasche da raus ist…)

And all that for somone who hadn’t taken more than 20 EUR cash with her. How that? Prices that low on the fair? No. But more and more dealers allow paying with bankcard or credit card. And some even gave me the merchandise and will send me an invoice after the fair. How will that end, if more shop owners will follow the example?!? (And still… I think I was the only one who left the premises with only one bag. At least that…)
