German Ravelers’ Meeting… finally!

Zu einem Ravelry Treffen wollte ich ja auch schon lange mal, aber irgendwie hat es nie geklappt. Dabei war es letztes Jahr in Bonn, also quasi um die Ecke. Aber bis ich meinen Terminkalender klar hatte, waren die Ticktes weg.

I had wanted to attend a German Ravelry Meeting for quite some time but somehow I never made it. Not even last year, when it took place in Bonn which is practically next door. But until I could be sure about my schedule, there were no tickets left.

Dieses Jahr fand es nun aber unter dem Motto Wollfestival in Köln im Sport- und Olympiamuseum statt. Auch diesmal war mein eigener Zeitplan lange nicht klar, aber durch den großen Veranstaltungsort gab es quasi unbegrenzt Tickets, sowohl im Vorverkauf als auch dann an der Tageskasse. Und so habe auch ich es endlich mal geschafft. 🙂

Now this year it was called Wollfestival (Festival of Wool) and happened at the Sportmuseum in Cologne. Now again I was not sure about my schedule for a long time, but due to the larger location there was no limit in places. And so finally even I made it. 🙂

Kurs hatte ich keinen gebucht, aber es gab auch so viel zu sehen, zu stricken und vor allem zu Quatschen. Ich habe viele Leute (wieder) getroffen, wie zum Beispiel diese hier oder jene da oder auch die da. Und natürlich noch viele, viele mehr, die nicht alle ein Blog haben.

I didn’t take a class, but there was enough to see, to knit and mostly to talk. It was a wonderful occasion to meet people I hadn’t seen for quite a while and to spend time with each other. Like this one or that one not to forget her and a whole lot of others who do not have a blog.

Natürlich gab es auch jeden Menge Einkaufsmöglichkeiten rund um Wolle und Garne. Hier macht es natürlich besonders viel Spaß, die unterschiedlichen Fasern mit fachkundingen Freuninnen zu befühlen und zu begucken. Und so viele unterschiedliche Handfärber findet man selten auf einem Ort.

Of course there were a lot of booths where you could buy wool and other knitting related items. And it is so much fun to touch and examine all those yarns togehter with friends who also know what we are talking about. I don’t think I often have the possilibity to see so many indie dyers on one spot.

Gekauft habe ich gar nicht so viel. Zum einen Spinnfasern, die mir eine liebe Freundin zu Lace Garn verspinnen wird (und die sie gleich mitgenommen hat) und dann war da noch dieses Seidengarn mit Edelstahl, “Tetsu” von Ito. Das hat mich schon fasziniert, als ich im Internet vor Jahren das erste Mal davon las. Aber ich bestelle ja so ungern… Doch handmade berlin erlösten mich aus dem Dilemma, sie hatten nämlich viel von ITO dabei, auch dieses Garn. ich weiß noch nicht genau, was daraus wird, aber ich habe mal fünf Konen (Könchen) in zwei verschiedenen Farbtönen mitgenommen. (Ob man das auch durch die Nähmaschine laufen lassen kann?)

I didn’t buy much. Some spinning fibres which I passed directly to a friend who will spin it into lace yarn for me and then there was this silk yarn with stainless steel… I had been reading about it years ago somewhere in the web and had been fascinated instantly. But I am not the one who orders yarn easily… But now handmade berlin solved my problem. They had brought a lot of ITO yarns, including “Tetsu”. I have no idea what I will make with it, but I’ve purchased five cones (tiny cones) in two different colors. (I wonder if I could use it my sewing machine, also…?)

Natürlich gab es auch noch “Unterhaltungsprogramm”. 😉 Viele fertige Modelle verschiedener Designer und Firmen waren auf Puppen ausgestellt (die Erklärungen dazu mußte man sich im Programmheft zusammensuchen, was nicht optimal war, aber auf der anderen Seite… es gab ein Programmheft!) und natürlich die Beiträge zum Designwettbewerb. Wie der Kölsche Klüngel funktioniert konnte man dann dabei sehe: Es gab drei erste Plätze. 🙂 Daniela von der Maschenkunst (die übermüdete Veranstalterin) hält hier einen hoch.

Of course there was “entertainment” also. Many knitted clothes and items were shown on manequins all over the place. Only the information about it you had to pick from the programm. Not the best solution, on the other side…, there was a printed programm and it contained all information! There was a design contest and how the spirit of Cologne works you could seen in the result: They had three winners! Daniela from Maschenkunst, who organized the event, shows one of them on the picture.

Nächstens Jahr wird das Raveler Treffen im September in Hamburg stattfinden (ich habe mir schon mal eine Couch reserviert…), aber im August soll es in Köln auch wieder ein Wollfestival geben. Gut für mich, denn egal, wann ich in Urlaub fahre, einen Termin sollte ich auf alle Fälle erwischen. Oder beide. 🙂

Next year the German Raveler Meeting will take place in Hamburg in september (I already “reserved” my place on a couch…), but in August there will be a Wollfestival in Cologne again. Great for me, because no matter when I will take my holiday, one should work. Or both… 🙂
