Wie alle wissen, gibt es auf der h&h ja nichts direkt zu kaufen.
Zu gucken gab es aber doch wieder einiges, was ich diesmal direkt im Forum berichtet habe.
Aber naja… ein bisschen was gibt es dann doch zu kaufen. Pröbchen sozusagen…
Und an diesen Knöpfen konnte ich dann doch nicht vorbei gehen. Allerdings sollte ich vielleicht doch mal über ein umfangreicheres Knopfsortiersystem Gedanken machen…
h&h 2017 – just a little bit…
Auf der h&h gibt es ja nicht wirklich was zu kaufen, aber ein paar Sachen habe ich auch diesmal mitgebracht. (Was ich und die anderen Redaktionsmitglieder sonst noch so interessant fanden, kann man im hobbyschneiderin24 Forum nachlesen.) Von so! pattern will ich die Schlupfhose zu meinem Strickpulli nähen, der gerade in Arbeit ist. Denn die sieht gar nicht so nach Schlupfhose aus und zu Strick darf es gerne bequem sein. Von Organ bekam ich neue Nadeln… also die Nadeln sind nicht so neu, es sind Nadeln für die Cover. Neu ist zum einen, daß sechs Stück im Päckchen sind, je drei in jeder Größe. Soll zum covern ganz praktisch sein. Außerdem sind sie jetzt mit mittlerer Kugelspitze (schonender zum Stoff) und verchromt, was stabiler ist als die übliche Vernickelung.
On the h&h trade fair you can not really buy and take away stuff, but there were some things I brought home. (Other things me and the other members of our editors team have found interesting can be found at the hobbyschneiderin24 forum.) From so! pattern I got the pattern for the pull on pants. I’ve seen reviews and since it does not really look like a pull on pant I’ll give it a try. I am planning to use it for pants that shall go with the tunic I am knitting right now. Then I got needles by Organ. They are not new from scratch, Organ has been making needles for cover machines for long. But now they come in packages of six, three each in two sizes (for those who like a three needle cover stitch), the tip a more rounded than it was before, so the risk of damaging the fabric is further reduces and they are chromed on the outside, as industrial needles normally are.
Förmlich “abgeschossen” wurde man mit Nähgarnen von Ackermann. Die älteren unter uns kennen den Namen vielleicht noch. Natürlich hat das neue Ackermann Nähgarn mit der bewährten Deutschen Marke erst mal nichts zu tun. Hier handelt es sich jetzt um ein einfaches Polyester Stapelgarn (also kein Core Spun, wie die hochwertigen Markengarne), das in Polen produziert wird und zu einem günstigen Preis in den deutschen Läden ankommen dürfte. Hinter der Marke steht heute Marco Seitz, der vor einigen Jahren die alte Marke “Gritzner” erfolgreich wiederbelebt hat. Ich habe jetzt jedenfalls eine Menge davon und früher oder später wird das eine oder andere davon auch auf meiner Maschine landen.
A product you could nearly not avoid was sewing thread by Ackermann. Old enough German sewers will know the brand as a traditional German brand that has disappeared quite a while ago. The new version is of course not made in Germany, but in Poland. It’s a simple polyester thread (no core spun like the premium brands) and it will probably hit the stores at a very low price. The guy behind the brand today is Marco Seitz who already successfully revived the traditional sewing machine brand “Gritzner” some years ago. Now I have quite a few rolls of that sewing thread so it will probably get to my machine sooner or later.
Tja… und bei Jim Knopf konnte ich einigen der Mustertüten nicht widerstehen… besonders die Neonfarben haben es mir angetan.
And then there were some sample bags with buttons you could buy from Jim Knopf. Could not resist some of them, especially I fell in love with the neon colors.

Auf der h&h kann man ja eigentlich nichts direkt kaufen. Mit Ausnahme einiger Knöpfe. Und dieses Jahr bin ich so richtig schwach geworden. Nicht nur bei Jim Knopf, sondern auch bei Knopf Budke. Auch die stellen tolle Naturknöpfe “Made in Germany” her, aber sie verkaufen dummerweise nur in Tüten. 😮 Aber sie waren so schön…
On the h&h trade fair you normally can’t buy something. (Not to take away and in small quantities.) With the exception of some buttons. And this year I really fell for it. Not only at Jim Knopf, but also at Knopf Budke. They also make great buttons “Made in Germany” and mostly from natural materials. But they only sell them in prepacked bags. 😮 But they are so beautiful…
Die Perlen bekam ich von Toho aus Japan. Sie habe sehr elegante, winzige Glasperlen, die nicht glänzend, sondern matt sind. Und danaben noch einige andere, auch welche, die richtig reflektieren. Das ist doch deutlich eleganter als Reflexband…
The beads are a sample from Toho beads from Japan. They have very elegant tiny glass beads which are not shiny but matte. And some more… including a range of reflecting beads. That is a far more elegant option than those grey reflective ribbons…
My picks from the h&h trade fair 2015
Die Messe ist ja schon wieder über eine Woche her. Meine Eindrücke und viele Bilder habe ich ja hier im Forum schon gezeigt. (Wobei ich euch den ganzen Artikel ans Herz legen würde, denn jede von uns hatte einen anderen Blickwinkel und hat andere Sachen gesehen.) Die wenigen Sachen, die ich für mich selber mit nach Hause genommen habe, will ich euch aber auch noch zeigen. 🙂
It is already more than one week that the trade fair took place. My personal impressions including pictures I’ve shown here in the forum. (And even though it is only in German it is absolutly worth to check the pictures of the complete article because each of us saw different things.) But I will also show you the few things I’ve picked for myself- 🙂
Da ich diesmal nur einen Tag und nur den Sonntag hatte, blieb nicht viel Zeit. Aber bei Jim Knopf wanderten dann doch wieder etliche schöne Knöpfe in meine Tasche und da es das Ende des letzten Tages war, wurde ich bei Burda mit zwei Einzelschnitten beschenkt. Besonders der mit den Raffungen gefällt mir sehr gut. Ich hatte schon lange keinen Einzelschnitt von Burda mehr und freue mich darauf, mal wieder einen zu nähen.
I had only one day this year and it was the Sunday, so I had not much time. But I could not resist buying some buttons at Jim Knopf and since it was quite the end of the day burda had a generous give away of two patterns. I like especially the one with the shirrings. I’ve not sewn a Burda pattern that is not from the magazin for a very long time, so I am really looking forward to the experience.
Aching Feet again… h&h 2014
Dieses Jahr fand ja parallel zur Creativa die andere große Messe statt, die handarbeit & hobby oder kurz h&h. Eine Fachmesse, also kein Zutritt für Endverbraucher (es sei denn, jemand verschenkt eine Karte oder nimmt einen mit), sondern vor allem für Händler bzw. “Großeinkäufer” und Berichterstatter. Einkaufen kann man als Endverbraucher auch (fast) nicht, aber es gibt neue Produkte zu sehen, manche sogar erst als Vorabmodelle. Und für die Berichterstattung auf Hobbyschneiderin24 werden wir auch noch das eine oder andere Produkt zum Testen bekommen.
This year another important trade fair took place at the same time as the Creativa, the handarbeit und hobby or h&h. This one is not a fair for common public, but mostly for dealers and other professionals (unless you know a dealer who takes you with him) and for press and others who tell about it. So as a consumer you can’t buy stuff (or only very few items) but many companies show their new products, some even preproduction models. And for our articles on Hobbyschneiderin24 we will get some protucts for testing within the next weeks and months.
Ein paar erste Bildeindrücke habe ich ja schon gezeigt, aber es gibt natürlich auch ein paar persönliche Eindrücke.
I’ve already shown some first impressions in pictures , but you’ll get some personal impressions here also.
Rollschneider, Patchworklineale und auch die Schneidmatten dazu gibt es jetzt auch in bunt. Die Firma Vesalia GmbH bietet das jetzt farbsortiert. Die Matten haben sie selbst, so sagen sie, bereits in ihrem Fotogeschäft erprobt und sie halten dort bei professioneller Benutzen mehr als zwei Jahre dort. Daß sie auch in 1 m x 2 m erhältlich sein werden finde ich ebenfalls sehr interessant, das ist für Zuschneidetische doch eine sinnvolle Größe. Der Rollschneider ist unerwartet leicht, liegt aber gut in der Hand.
Roller cutter, patchwork rulers and cutting mat are available in bright colors now. Vesalia GmbH offers them in a nice assortment of colors. They have been using the mats for their photographic business for years and say they keep for more than two years under those heavy use conditions. What I like is that the mats are not only available in many colors, but also up to a size of 1m x 2 m, that makes them interesting for use on a cutting table. The roller cutter I’ve found surprisingly lightweight, but it feels very good in the hand, has a nice grip.
Gut gefallen hat mir auch der Stand von Soven aus Slovenien. Unauffällig, aber einen Blick wert. Die Firma produziert natürliche Wolle aus heimischen Schafen. Auf dem Stand wird die Strickwolle gezeigt, gefärbt mit Blütenextrakten. Ich finde sie recht farbintensiv für natürliche Färbung. Vom Griff her eine ganz typische Naturwolle, mit viel Lanolin. Leider nur in einer Stärke erhältlich. (Daneben stellt die Firma aber auch Wolle für Gebäudeisolation her, Filz, Bettfüllungen,…) Die Webseite hat leider zwar einen Button für “Deutsch” aber der funktioniert wohl leider (noch?) nicht.
Another booth I liked was the one of Soven from Slovenia. It was not very prominent, but well worth a look. The company is producing eco wool from local sheep. They showed mostly their knitting wool, dyed with flower extract. I found them quite intensive in color for natural dyes. I also liked how the wool felt, a typical natural wool feel, very rich in lanolin. They are producing only one yarn weight for knitters. But they have also wool for building insulation, for bedding or felt. The web page has buttons for English and German, but at the moment they are not working (yet?).
Fasziniert hat mich auch diese Kollektion an Schokolade und Pralinen. Obwohl sie auch bei näherem Hinsehen sehr echt aussehen, sind sie nicht eßbar. Die Herstellung dürfte mit echten Pralinen vergleichbar sein, nämlich in Handarbeit. Nur das Material ist anders, etwas elastisch.
Fascinating also this collection of chocolates. They look very realistic, even when giving it a close look. But they are not edible. Though the production seems to be similar to real chocolates: individually and by hand. Only the material is differently, a bit elastic.
Schon letztes Jahr war ich beeindruckt gewesen von der Fülle unterschiedlicher Büsten bei Adjustoform. Da kam ich nur nie dazu, mal jemanden anzusprechen…. Dieses Jahr habe ich das “Rätsel” mal gelüftet. Die britische Firma (die auch in Großbritannen produziert) stellt die meisten Büsten her, die unter verschiedenen Namen bei uns verkauft werden. Die unterschiedlichen Serien haben etwas unterschiedliche Proportionen und es gibt viel mehr unterschiedliche Büsten, als man meist zu sehen bekommt. Sprich: auch hier lohnt sich Beratung und ein Nachfragen, wenn das Standardangebot nicht paßt.
The big choice of different dressforms at Adjustoform had already impressed me last year, but I hadn’t time to investigate further. But this year I managed to ask… They are producing their dressforms in Great Britain and they are making most of the dressforms that are sold in Europe (maybe even further, but I didn’t ask about that) under different names. The different series have slightly different proportions and the choice is much bigger than what you normally get to see in shops. So it makes sense to go to a shop with qualified personal to choose the right dressform. And to ask if the standard choice is not right for you.
Lustig fand ich auch den Automaten von Addi. Noch nicht serienreif, aber falls sich ein Einzelhändler findet, der so was aufstellen und bestücken will, dann kann er sich bei Addi melden. 🙂 Ich fände Sockenwolle gut oder auch Plastiknadeln am Flughafen vor der Security… oder neue Nadeln nach der Landung. 😀
I liked the projct dispenser by Addi. At the moment it’s more an idea than realitiy, but if a dealer wants to fill and maintain one, he is invited to contact Addi. I’d like small project material like sock wool. Or plastic needles before you pass the security at an airport. Or new needles after landing…
Zum Stand von Maison Sajou war ich eigentlich deswegen gekommen, weil meine ansonsten ganz entzückende Stickschere von ihnen einen kleinen Grat vorn hat. Und ich wollte mal wissen, ob das normal ist. Nun, das ist natürlich nicht normal und sie haben mir die Schere sogar sofort umgetauscht. Da wir dann ins Gespräch kamen, endete ich mit einigen Maschinennähgarnen zum Testen. (Und leider kann ich mich diesem Nostalgiedesign auch nur ganz schwer entziehen…)
The reason why I went to the booth of Maison Sajou was, that I have adorable embroidery scissors of them which I’ve hardly used so far, because they were a bit burred at the top and snatched the fabric. So I asked if that was normal which it was of course not. And since they had one pair of those scissors at hand they repaced mine on the spot. Then we started chatting a bit and I ended up with some machine sewing and embroidery thread for testing. (And I love that vintage design…)
Tja… und ich sagte ja fast nichts kaufen…. bei Jim Knopf wurde ich dann dieses Jahr wieder mal schwach. Die letzte Ecke mit “Impulsknöpfen” habe ich dann schon gar nicht mehr angeschaut…
Well… I said you can only buy a few things. This year again I could not resist the buttons of Jim Knopf. And I did not even look at the last corner with “impulse buying” buttons….

Wenn man sich direkt nach einem Messetag in den Zug wirft und wegfährt, dann behindert das das Beitragschreiben etwas… aber hier kommen auch noch meine wie immer sehr subjektiven und nicht vollständigen Eindrücke.
This year I jumped directly from the trade fair into a train to go on a trip, so I didn’t have time to write about my findings. But now I have the time to sit down and will tell a bit about what I’ve found. Not complete and from my personal view only.
Einige nette Aussteller haben auch dafür gesorgt, daß ich genug Sachen mitgenommen habe, um meinem Gedächtnis auf die Sprünge zu helfen. 🙂 Bei Organ gab es wenig überraschenderweise nichts neues, die Nadeln bleiben in bewährter Qualität. Aber Herr Ruppel hatte Zeit die Frage zu klären, was denn eigentlich die Topstitch von der Sticknadel unterscheidet… Die Position des Öhrs ist etwas unterschiedlich und die Topstitch hat eine etwas vertiefte Fadenrille (damit sie dickere Fäden auch gut aufnehmen kann). Wieder was dazu gelernt. 🙂 Ach ja, die Kolben der Nadeln sollen künftig ein Color Coding bekommen, damit man die Sorten auf einen Blick auseinander halten kann. Und die Frage “ist das jetzt eine Jersey Nadel, die noch in der Maschine steckt?” der Vergangenheit angehört.
Luckily some nice guys from nice companies had some gifts for me so I would remember better. 🙂 Nothing new at Organ needles, but Mr Ruppel had time for a question we recently couldn’t solve at the Hobbyschneiderin Forum. What is the difference between the topstitch and the embroidery needle? Yes, there is one. The position of the eye is a bit different and the topstich needel has a deeper “groove” to accomodate thicker thread better. Oh, I nearly forgot… at least for Germany there are plans for a color coding of the needles so one can see quickly if the needle left in the machine is a stretch, a standard, an embroidery,.. or whatever needle.
Daß ich Herrn Seitz und Herrn Amrhein von Alterfil auch besuche, wenn ich nicht auf der Suche nach Preisen für eine Challenge bin ist quasi Ehrensache. Neben dem bewährten Alterfil S gibt es hier sogar eine Neuheit. Wer meinen Bericht im letzten Jahr gelesen hat erinnert sich vielleicht noch, daß ich von dem Reflexfaden so begeistert war. Nicht nur daß er wirklich stark reflektiert, sondern auch, daß er im “Normalzustand” so ein unauffälliges grau hat und nicht glitzerig wirkt. Nun… es ist noch nicht im Webshop, aber es ist gelungen eine Technik zu finden, mit der man diesen Faden auch auf kleinere Spulen aufbringen kann. Preis steht noch nicht fest (sollte aber per Mail zu erfragen sein), aber sicher nicht 70 EUR wie für die große Kone. Und das beste? Ich habe ein Pröbchen bekommen, das ist der helle Fleck auf dem obigen Bild, denn da habe ich geblitzt. 🙂
Und hier zum Vergleich noch mal ungeblitzt… neutrales grau. – Was ich dummerweise auf dem Messestand vergessen habe zu photographieren: Man kann den Faden auch beim Stricken mitlaufen lassen! Ein paar Reihen im Mützenaufschlag mitgefasst und die Sicherheit in der dunklen Jahreszeit erhöht. Der Effekt ist wirklich deutlich.
Eine andere Neuigkeit lag leider auf dem Hotelzimmer….. elastischer Nähfaden um die Nähte bei elastischen Stoffen dehnbarer zu gestalten. Da soll ich aber was bekommen… ich bin gespannt, wie sich der vernäht. Sobald ich ihn habe, werde ich testen und berichten.
Of course I did visit Mr Seitz and Mr. Amrhein from Alterfil. Even though I was not hunting prizes for a challenge or something, so I could just say hallo. And they had something new… if you did read my report from last years event you might remember that they had a reflective thread I loved a lot because it has a very strong an visible effect, but also looked plain grey and not glitzy at all when no light shone on it. If you look at the first picture you see a bright spot, that’s the thread under flashlight. The second pic is the same thread without flash, just by daylight. Well, the problem was that they only had it on big cones for around 70 EUR. And the good news is, that they found a way to wind it on smaller spools, so they can offer it to anyone who might not want to buy a very big amount. It’s not in the shop yet and Mr Seitz didn’t know the price right away, but it should be available soon and you can always ask per mail also if you are interested.
What also was amazing (and I stupidly forgot to take a picture of…) was the reflective effect in knitwear. Yes, you can knit that thread also and adding it for some rows in the brim of a hat will give a super amount of extra security in the winter.
Not on the pic but brand new is a new sewing thread that is more elastic than the normal one. So seams in knit fabric will stretch better and break less. I haven’t seen it yet, but I am supposed to get a sample and I am very curious how it will behave on my sewing machine. As soon as I can test it I’ll tell you all about it.
Für einen näheren Blick auf die Gritzner Nähmaschinen hat es dieses Jahr leider nicht gereicht, weil ich nur einen knappen Tag Zeit hatte. Ich hatte aber den Eindruck, daß die Anzahl der Modelle deutlich mehr geworden wäre.
I didn’t have time to take a closer look on the Gritzner sewing machines because I only had one (not even complete) day. But I got the impression that they have more models now.
Dafür haben andere Nähmaschinen meinen Blick auf sich gezogen. (Leider habe ich vergessen ein Bild zu machen, also hier das Bild des Herstellers.)
Ich gebe zu, von Alfa Nähmaschinen hatte ich noch nie was gehört, aber die Firma gibt es auch seit den 1920er Jahren und sie kommt aus Spanien. Und auch hier werden die Nähmaschinen in Asien gefertigt (die Gerüchteküche sagt Janome oder so), aber man hat sich ein neues Design überlegt. Frisch, jung, Generation i-pod war die Idee. Sozusagen für die NeXt generation der Näherinnen. Die Maschinen haben nur wenige Funktionen und sollen einfach zu bedienen sein und dafür auch noch schick aussehen. Sozusagen die Maschine die in der Studentenbude nicht im Schrank versteckt werden muß. Es gibt einige Modelle in dem Design, auch mit etwas mehr Funktionen. (Hier die Modellübersicht.)
Nun kann man über Geschmack immer streiten, aber so auf den ersten Blick machten die Maschinen einen durchaus durchdachten Eindruck, eben für Anfänger und Gelegenheitsnäher, die gerne eine Maschine wollen, die nicht wie alle anderen aussieht. Und auf der Webseite findet man auch ausführliche Schritt für Schritt Videoanleitungen, wie man die Maschine in Betrieb nimmt, spult, einfädelt,… Zwar nur in Spanisch und Englisch, aber die Bilder sind sehr deutlich. Als Gesamtkonzept gefällt mir das jedenfalls erst mal gut. Wie die Maschine näht müßte man dann natürlich auch erst mal testen…
What cought my eye for the anusual design were the sewing machines from Alfa.(Forgot to take a picture, so this is from their website.) I had never heard of that company but they exist since teh 1920s…. in Spain. Like nearly all other companies they have the production in Asia (gossip says maybe Janome) but they came up with a new design. The idea is a simple sewing machine for young people who start to sew or want a sewing machine because they want to design or alter something occasionally. So the machines are simple meant to be easy to handle.The pic shoes the most simple version, there are some more. (Overview over the sewing machines.) Designed to please the generation i-pod, so they don’t have to hide it in a cabinet when friends visit.
If you like the design is matter of taste, but they made left a good impression from what I could see. One would have to sew to say more, but I like the idea that the website contains video tutorials for all steps you need to start with that machine. From winding the bobbin to threading the machine.
Allerdings schlafen auch andere Hersteller nicht was das Design betrifft und so muß ich feststellen, daß mir die neuen Bernette Modelle von Bernina sehr gut gefallen. Ebenfalls ein reduziertes design, nur edler, weniger bunt und mit Anzeigen, die durch den Kunststoff durchschimmern. (Das kommt auf den Bildern gar nicht so gut zur Geltung wie im Original.)
But other sewing machine producers don’t sleep either as far es the design is concerned. So I have to admit that I really like the new. from Bernina. Also a very simple and clean design, but more classy, in black and white and… well.. it is not a diplay, but a kind of.. indicator (?) for information like stitch choosen that shines through the plastic. (Looks better in real than on the pictures.)
Wer es dagegen bunt mag und seine Nähmaschine gerne mal umzieht, der kann seiner Bernina jetzt eine neue Haut verpassen. Macht Bernina nicht selber, sondern in Zusammenarbeit mit einem Partner, aber hier ist jeder Wunsch erfüllbar. Man läd sein eigenes Bild hoch und bekommt eine Folie, die man der Maschine nur noch aufkleben muß. Und wenn sie nicht mehr gefällt, dann zieht man sie wieder ab.
Leider gibt es die Folien vor allem für die aktiva-Modelle, sonst wäre meine Maschine jetzt dran…
If you prefer more colorful designs and also like to change the look of your sweing machine, then you can get skins for your Bernina now. They don’t make those themselves, but with a partner, but you can upload any pic you want and then you get skins you can put on and pull off again once you don’t like them any longer.
It’s a pity that the skins mostly exist for aktiva models, elseway my machine would get a redesign now…
(Ja, die Idee ist komplett bescheuert. Aber so bescheuert, daß sie schon wieder gut ist. 🙂 )

Bei Knit Pro am Stand konnte ich mal meine Hände an die eckigen Stricknadeln legen. Sie sollen angeblich für ein gleichmäßiges Maschenbild bei rechten und linken Maschen sorgen, also besonders für Anfänger geeignet sein. Ich fand, sie lagen doch ein wenig seltsam in der Hand… (Wenn ich aber irgendwelche Hand- oder Armprobleme beim Stricken hätte, dann würde ich sie probieren. Manchmal ist so eine kleine Änderung tatsächlich die Lösung.)
At the Knit Pro booth I had the possibility to knit with the new square needles. They are supposed to make more regular knit and purl stitches, especially for beginners. I can say that I could knit with them, but it felt strange… (But if I had any problems with my hands or wrists or arms while knitting I would try those. Sometime small changes can make a big difference.)
Wo ich diesmal nicht ungeschoren vorbei kam waren die “Impuls-Körbchen” von Jim Knopf. Es gibt ja nicht viel, was man direkt zahlen und mitnehmen kann, diese Knöpfe mußten aber mit.
Normally you can’t buy directly on this trade fair, only order big quantities for your shop, but some booths have small items you can purchase directly. So I couldn’t resist buying some buttons from Jim Knopf…
Sehr nett wie immer war es auch beim Stand von Vlieseline. Meine Mustermappe kann ich jetzt mit einem Stück 244 ergänzen. Das ist ein ganz dünnes Volumenvlies, sehr weich und gar nicht steif. Das scheint mit eine gute Lösung für Übergangsjacken die man waschen will.
Form the Vlieseline (Vilene) booth I also picked something new. It has the number 244 and is a very thin “padding”. Really thin, very soft, not stiff at all. Seems good for jackets you want to wash in the machine.
Und danach hatte ich fürchterliche Fußschmerzen… und ihr vermutlich Augenschmerzen vom Lesen. 😉
And after all that my feet were aching terribly… are are probably your eyes now after reading all that. 😉
More findings from the h&h 2010
Da fehlt noch was… ein bißchen habe ich mich auch in der Wollabteilung umgesehen. Wobei in dem Bereich mein Bericht kurz ausfällt, wer es ausführlich wissen will guckt einfach bei Tichiro.

Mein erster “Fund” ist nicht im Bild. Am Stand für addy habe ich herausgefunden, daß es Rundstricknadeln in 1,75 gibt, meiner Sockenstärke. Und gestern habe ich die dann bei der Maschenkunst in Köln gekauft. 🙂
My first finding is not in the picture, because it war the information, that addy makes cable needles in 1,75mm, my sock size. And yesterday I bought those at Maschenkunst in Cologne. 🙂
Mein nächster Fund war eine Vollbremsung am Stand von BC Garn. Da hing nämlich eine Jacke mit einem extrem interessanten 3D Muster und ich hing an der Jacke. Und während ich die noch studierte kam schon die Designerin Jytte Slente und erklärte mir alles, ein Anleitungsblatt gab es auch noch dazu. Damit werde ich mich aber bei Gelegenheit noch intensiver befassen, ebenso mit den interessanten Designs von ihr in dem Anleitungsheft “Rillen, Rechts & Rippen”, da sind wirklich schöne Sachen drin. Das Garn gefiel mir auch. Leider konnte ich keines kaufen, aber Frau Maschenkunst hat geordert…. da freue ich mich schon, wenn das im Laden ist. Ich hoffe, es gibt was von dem Multicolorgarn aus Seide…
Was sie leider gar nicht mag (so erzählte mir die Vertreterin) ist die Wolle von Lanamania. Wolle mit Possumfell. Besonders eine der Qualitäten hat es mir sehr angetan, das Gestrickte wirkt, als läge ein Hauch von Pelz darüber. Ein ganz besonderer Effekt. Leider hat das aber kein Laden in meiner Nähe und Online kaufe ich doch sehr ungern.
Next thing was a screetching halt at the booth of BC Garn, where I saw a jacket in a thrilling 3D technique. While I was still drooling over it the designer, Jytte Slente came and explained it to me. I also was able to get another book with very interesting designs of her. But I will post about that another time and in more detail. Once I had time to try the technique. I also liked the yarns of that danish company a lot. Luckily Frau Maschenkunst did order. I hope she got something from that variegated silk… and I hardly can wait until it will arrive in the shop.
What she does not like is the yarn from Lanamania. That’s a real pity because I liked the yarn with the furry touch a lot but no shop near me carries it. And yarn is something I strongly prefer to buy after touching, not online.
Zuletzt stolperte ich noch über das Buch Patchworkstricken, das wollte ich mir schon kaufen seit es raus ist, aber irgendwie kam ich nicht dazu. Da es das vor Ort gab, habe ich die Gelegenheit genutzt. Ich hoffe ja, daß sich die Autorin Liane Schommertz mal wieder in Aachen blicken läßt, denn ich will es auch noch signiert haben.
Last thing I got is a book about Patchworkknitting. I’ve wanted to get it since it came out but somehow never made ist. But now it’s mine. And I hope Liane Schommertz, the author will come to one of the meetings in Aachen one day, because I want my copy signed.
Ihr seht… wollig kann ich mich kürzer fassen. 😉

Findings on the h&h trade fair 2010
Die Vernunft hätte ja am Freitag geboten, mein Kleid fertig zu nähen. Aber da ich die Karte für die h&h hatte, konnte ich der Versuchung doch nicht widerstehen. (Und wollte auch nicht, ich gestehe.) Aber ich habe Vormittags noch gestichelt, sechs Stunden bis 18.00 Uhr reichten auch für platte Füße. Kaufen konnte ich ja glücklicherweise nichts, es ist eine Händlermesse. Trotzdem habe ich eine Menge mitbegracht, Eindrücke vor allem. Und noch ein paar Kleinigkeiten als Gedächtnisstütze für selbige. 🙂
Reason had told me to finish my dress on friday, but since I had a ticket for the h&h (trade show for professionals) so I couldn’t (and wouldn’t) resist the temptation. But I had done some sewing in the morning and six hours were still a lot of time to get aching feet. The trade show is for professionals only, so if you are not a show owner and want to order bigger amounts of everything, you cannot buy. So I couldn’t buy anything, but I got a lot of impressions. And also some things to help me remember those impressions. 🙂
Daß ich bei Alterfil vorbeischauen würde um mich noch mal für die Challengepreise und mein Weihnachtsgeschenk zu bedanken war natürlich Ehrensache. Und dann klebte ich schon wieder an den schönen Farben… für den Handel gibt es jetzt übrigens ein schickes und modulares Plexiglas-Display… aber diesmal nicht am Nähgarn, sondern am Stickgarn!
Das Super-Bright Polyester ist jetzt nämlich in 453 Farben erhältlich! Die Garne sind übrigens auch schon im Webshop erhältlich. (Und haben eine Pantone-Nummer, sind also sozusagen standardisiert, was gerade wenn man viel bestellt praktisch ist.)
Das nachtleuchtende Moonglow war mir hingegen nicht neu, das habe ich schon hier, nur noch nicht ausprobiert…
That I would visit the Alterfil booth to say thank you for the Challenge prizes and for my christmas gift was clear. And then I was again thrilled not only by the new chic looking and modular acrylic glass displays for shop owners, but also by the choice of colors. This time not only of the sewing thread but of the Super Bright embroidery thread! What started with some colours last year has arrived at a choice of 453 colors! (All available at the web shop also.) And I got a color chart. 🙂 Moonglow is not completely new in the show, because I already purchased some with my last order….
Ein starkes “haben will” erzeugte auch das Reflexgarn. Mit Blitz sieht man wirklich gut, wie stark es reflektiert. Ganz feine Glassplitter sorgen dafür, wenn ich das richtig verstanden habe.
Was mir besonders gut gefällt ist auch, daß es ohne Licht relativ wenig glitzert, sondern eher neutral grau aussieht. So kann man es auch an Kleidung, Taschen oder Accessoires für Erwachsene verwenden, ohne daß man sich wie eine Barbie fühlt.
Weniger schön ist, daß es technisch noch nicht möglich ist, diesen Faden auf kleine Rollen zu spulen, so daß er im Moment nur auf großen Konen zu haben ist und mit 70 EUR dann doch eine ziemliche Investition darstellt. *schluck*
Another “wanna have” is this reflective thread. Flashlight shows how well it reflects the light! (Due to extremely fine glass particles if I got that right.)
What I like a lot is that the thread is not very “glitzy” in its “normal” state, but more a neutral grey. So it’s not only great for more security on kids gear, but also good for clothes or bags for adults that do not want to feel like Barbie.
Not so good is the fact that they have not found a technical solution to bring it on smaller spools so you can only have big cones which cost around 70 EUR each which is quite an investment. *ouch*
Der kleine Karton mit neun 200m Röllchen war auf der Messe ein Give-Away, aber es ist angedacht, solche kleinen Sortimenter auch im Webshop anzubieten, etwa passend zu aktuellen Modetrends. Auch neu und demnächst im Shop sind Schrägbänder. In Zusammenarbeit mit Topp, einem Hersteller für Bänder aller Art, der sonst im großen Rahmen für die Industrie herstellt (eine Rolle sind 140m) werden zwei Qualitäten in verschiedenen Breiten und Farben angeboten werden. Passend zum Faden (oder umgekehrt) und in handhabbareren Rollen von 20m.
The small box with 9 spools of 200m was just the give away but there are plans to offer boxes like that in the shop, for example variations according to fashion trends. Another new idea that will arrive in the shop soon are bias tapes. In cooperations with Topp, a producer that normally cuts for industry (so one spool means 140m) they will offer bias tapes in two qualities and in many colors. Fitting the threads (or vice versa) and in more convenient spools of 20m.
Na und nachdem ich dann auch schon die Pralinen, die Kugelschreiber und die Tasse von Gritzner in die Hand bekommen habe, habe ich auch mal einen Blick auf die Maschinen geworfen und mir das mal alles erklären lassen. Den Gritzner war doch mal die von Pfaff als Billiglable verwendete schon lange nicht mehr existente Marke?
Aber zum Anfang… Pfaff wurde ja auch vor einigen Jahren aufgekauft und stellt auch seit einigen Jahren in Deutschland keine Haushaltsmaschinen mehr her. Die Produktionsstraßen der alten Maschinen wurden in den Iran verkauft und produzieren dort weiter. Und diese Maschinen werden schon seit einiger Zeit auch nach Deutschland importiert. Jetzt hat der Importeur zu den Maschinen (praktischerweise der Sohn von Herrn Seitz von Alterfil…) inzwischen auch die Rechte an den Marken “Gritzner” und “Kayser” für Deutschland erworben. Also laufen die “neuen alten” Pfaffmodelle künftig unter dem Namen Gritzner in Deutschland. Wer also die gewohnte Technik der 80er nicht aufgeben will, kann sie auch frisch gefertigt im Fachhandel erwerben. Und… drei der Modelle werden seit ganz kurzer Zeit auch wieder in Deutschland zusammengesetzt. Mal sehen, ob da wieder Kultmaschinen draus werden.
Alterfil was not alone in the booth, they shared with Gritzner (where the son of Mr Seitz form Alterfil is the owner). So Gritzner was a german brand before they were bought by Pfaff very long ago and used as a cheap label. And… now? But information is why those shows are so valuable. Pfaff has new owners for years already and they stopped production of home sewing machines in Germany some years ago. The machinery was sold to Iran and went on making sewing machines. Those were imported back to Germany. Now the importer also got the rights to use the brand names “Gritzner” and “Kayser”. So in Germany the “new old” Pfaff models are sold now under the traditional name “Gritzner” in Germany. So for those who need a new machine but do not want to give up their 1980th technique those machines might be an alternative. Let’s see whether they will also become cult…
Die neue 3er Serie bei Bernina habe ich mir natürlich auch mal angeguckt. Das silbrige Design der 330er und 350er spricht mich ja nicht so an, denn der “gebürstetes Edelstahl”-Look ist inzwischen so oft aus Plastik nachgemacht, daß er nicht mehr wirklich wertig wirkt. Das Display mit heller Schrift auf schwarz ist auch nicht ganz mein Geschmack, aber an der Bernina 380 wird das Design dann rund. Und auch die Funktionen gefallen mir. Neben dem Kniehebel und einer großen Stichauswahl gibt es sogar einen Geschwindigkeitsregler und die Möglichkeit, ohne Fußpedal zu nähen. Nur bei einem angestrebten Preis von knapp 1400 EUR dürfte meiner Meinung nach auch ein verstellbarer Nähfußdruck noch drin sein. Das ist eine verschenkte Möglichkeit. (Aber vermutlich “dürfen” die Nachfolger der activa-Serie diese Funktion nicht haben…?)
Of course I checked also the new machines from Bernina. The design of the 330 and 350 I did not like to much and why the display is white on black… who knows? But on the Bernina 380 the elements fit together. And the machine has nearly all you need, from knee lever to a good choice of stitches, the possibility to sew without a pedal and a speed control on the machine. Only I miss the adjustable pressure foot, for nearly 1400 EUR retail price that should have been possible. (But since the 3 series will replace the activas this function is not “allowed”…?)
Überraschenderweise hat sich Frau Mitsch von Vlieseline auch an mich erinnert. Und mir das neue Decovil I gezeigt. Es ist aufbügelbar und mit der wildlederartigen Oberfläche kann man es direkt als Sohle für Puschen verwenden. Oder als Einlage, wobei ich natürlich gleich an Taschen denke. Es ist nämlich nicht so steif und knickanfällig wie Schabrackeneinlage aber deutlich fester als Volumenvlies. Sollte die perfekte Taschenverstärkung ergeben, aber auch für Gürtel o.ä. prima.
At the Vlieseline booth I detected the new Decovil I. It is a fusible non woven with a suede like surface and you can use it directely as sole for sewn slippers. Or as interlining for bags, because it is stable and does not get permanent creases as easily as other stiff and stable interfacings. Of course also suitable to make belts or hats.
Da mir die Entwicklung der Burdastyle über das letzte Jahr im Großen und Ganzen gut gefallen hat bin ich zum Loben zu Burda gegangen. Und wurde mit einem aktuellen Heft belohnt, was mir sehr zu pass kam, denn ich war tatsächlich noch nicht bis zum Kiosk gekommen. (Ein paar Anregungen konnte ich mir dann auch nicht verkneifen, etwa bei Braut- oder Abendkleidern nicht eine einfache, sondern eine adäquate Verarbeitung zu erklären. Und generell auch mal “schwierigere” Techniken zu erklären. Muß ja nicht jeden Monat sein, aber so ein oder zwei mal im Jahr an einem besonderen Modell… Wobei ich so zwischen den Zeilen verstanden habe, daß solche Techniken wohl in viel Mehrarbeit für die Redaktion resultieren. Weniger beim Erstellen der Anleitung, sondern hinterher, wenn Leserinnen anrufen, die es nicht verstanden haben und dann telefonisch Support brauchen. Aber als Buch könnten sie sich sowas vielleicht eher vorstellen. Auch das fände ich gut, denn Couture- und Schneidertechniken findet man momentan vor allem in Englischen Büchern und die kann hier halt nicht jeder lesen.)
Since I liked the over all developement of the Burdastyle magazine I went to their booth to tell them. And got the april issue which is perfect, because I hadn’t had time to buy one until then.
Über den Stand von Dama aus Spanien bin ich gestolpert, weil sie Klöppel hatten. (Wollte ich ja schon immer mal lernen, ein Buch habe ich auch dazu…) Um dann festzustellen daß sie eine metallverarbeitende Fabrik sind, die neben Fingerhüten vor allem Nadeln aller Art herstellt. (Und lustigerweise ihren Ursprung in Aachen haben.) Wirklich schön waren übrigens auch die Klöppel aus Glas und die nette Dame sagte, man könnte die wirklich verwenden…?
Dama from Spain attracted me because they had bobbins for lacemaking. Then I found out that they are a metallurgic fabric and produce all kinds of needles and pins. (And funily the company has the origins in Germany…) Very beautiful the crystal bobbins they had. They nice lady said they can actually be used…?
