Proudly present: The endless Myrtle Leaf Shawl with Willow Border

Alpaca Lace StolaNach langer Zeit ist sie endlich fertig, meine Stola. Mit Spannen und allem und so.

Man muß sagen, der Einsatz von Garn war sehr effizient, denn die Stola hat mich für vergleichsweise wenig Geld doch sehr, sehr lange beschäftigt. Ein bißchen mehr als 2 Knäuel Isager Alpaca 1 habe ich gebraucht (das ist mein Fluch mit diesem Garn, ich behalten immer knapp ein Knäuel übrig…) und ich hatte knapp ein halbes Jahr was zu stricken.

I have to admit that it was quite an efficient investment in yarn. It took me a bit more than 2 skeins of Isager Alpaca 1 (I seem always to have a nearly full skein in the end with this yarn…) and it kept my occupied for nearly six month. So the per month investment in money was very low.

Myrtle Leaf ShawlIch habe mir diesmal zum Photographieren etwas mehr Zeit genommen, denn ich will auch die neue digitale Kamera die wir seit Ende letzten Jahres haben etwas besser kennen lernen. Und so eine Stola läuft schon mal nicht weg.

Was ich schon sagen kann ist, daß sich der Sensor doch an vielen Stellen anders verhält als Film. Da muß ich noch einiges üben. Und dann setzt sich eine Stola im Gegensatz zu Menschen nicht selber in Szene…. gar nicht so einfach.

This time I took a little more time to take pics. We bought a better digital photo camera last year and I still have to get to know it. A shawl has the advantage that it keeps still.

Myrtle Leaf ShawlWhat I can already say is, that the sensor reacts different to light than film. There is room for improvement. Also a shawl does not pose… getting ideas for attractive pics isn’t that easy.

Das ist auch der Grund, warum es diesmal so viele Bilder gibt. Ich kann mich nicht entscheiden, welches das beste ist?

Wenn ihr mir einen Kommentar hinterlassen mögt, welches euch am besten gefällt…? Das wäre echt nett.

Husband replaced…

Lace Schal

…ist so ein Lace Schal natürlich nicht.

Aber eine Dienstreise des selbigen war die perfekte Gelegenheit, die schwarze Stola auch zu spannen, ohne viel umräumen zu müssen.

… is not what I did. Not even a lovely black lace shawl is an adequate replacement.

But a business trip of DH was the perfect possibility to block my black lace shawl without major changes to the furniture.

Und jetzt gehe ich mal sorgfältig alle Nadel rausziehen, damit Schatzi dann da wieder sicher schlafen kann….

And now I’m going to pull all pins with maximum care. So DH will be able to use his bed safely….

The never ending shawl

Manchmal gibt es Sachen, die ziehen sich wirklich wie Kaugummi…

Schwarze StolaSometimes there are things that seem to find no end….

Meine letzte Lace Stola gehört in diese Kategorie. Im September angefangen war ich Ende Januar auch endlich mit Stricken fertig. Nein, sie war weder größer noch komplizierter als andere Sachen, die ich schon gestrickt habe.

Like my latest Lace shawl. I had started knitting in September and end of January the last stitches were made. No, it is not bigger than other things I’ve made, nor more complicated.

Trotzdem zog sich das und zog sich das.

Fehlt nur noch das Spannen…

But still it took like forever.

No it just waits blocking…

Stola gespanntAngefangen habe ich meine Stola (Miss Lambert’s Shetland Pattern for a Shawl) aus Victorian Lace today ja schon im November 2009 und reine Strickzeit waren so ungefähr zehn Wochen.

Und dann noch mal ungefähr so lange, um sie endlich zu spannen… *hüstel*

November 2009 I’ve started knitting my shawl (Miss Lambert’s Shetland Pattern for a Shawl) from Victorian Lace Today and knitting time was about ten weeks.

Aber jetzt ist die Stola fertig und unser Zitronenbaum darf sie als “Model” präsentieren. 😉

But now the shawl is tinished and our lemon tree helped me to model it.

Der einzige Haken ist, daß das Kleid zu dem sie passen soll noch nicht mal zugeschnitten ist und ich mir gerade nicht mehr sicher bin, ob ich das noch nähen werde…. 😉

Only the dress the shawl is supposed to go with has not even been cut and I am not sure whether I will ever sew it… 😉

Growing Shetland-Shawl

Wenn es mit dem Nähen bei mir derzeit schon kaum voran geht… immerhin stricke ich.

Meine vielen Maschenproben haben inzwischen auch zu einer Stola geführt. Nach meiner Berechnung brauche ich 63 Rapporte statt der 48 in der Anleitung angegebenen (irgendwie sind meine Maschen kürzer, als “normal”) und davon habe ich etwas über die Hälfte. Und gerade das zweite Knäuel angefangen.

Das sollte also hinkommen, denn ich habe etwa 10g für die Maschenproben gebraucht und am Ende kommt auch noch ein Rand dran.

All my swatching is making it into a shawl. I calculated that I will need 63 repeats of the pattern instead of 48 (my stitches are evidently “shorter” that they “normally” should) and I have a bit more than half of that. Since I just started the second skein this should be allright.

The swatches took me about 10g of yarn and after the shetland pattern there will be a border to knit. (If you want more detailed weekly updates you can follow my progress on Ravelry.)

The Rack for Holes

Es ist vollbracht, mein erster Lace Schal ist fertig. Fertig gestrickt ist er schon seit einer guten Weile, aber jetzt habe ich ihn endlich auch mal nass gemacht und gespannt.

Das Muster ist “Large Rectangle with center diamond pattern” aus Victorian Lace Today. Gestrickt habe ich mit dem angegebenen Garn, Rowan Kidsilk Haze (aus der Maschenkunst).

Mit der Größe habe ich defintiv ein Problem. Die angegebene Maschenprobe im Buch wird glatt rechts gestrickt. Nach der dritten Maschenprobe hatte ich eine Nadelstärke gefunden, bei der ich auf die passende Breite komme, aber die Höhe stimmte nicht. Also habe ich das entsprechend der Maschenprobe umgerechnet und habe etliche Rapporte in der Höhe mehr gestrickt.

Mit dem Ergebnis, daß mein Schal (der ja auch noch den angestrickten Rand bekam) ein Stück länger wurde als laut Anleitung. Es hätten knapp 2m werden sollen, meiner ist deutlich länger. Da aber meine “Spannmatratze” nur 2m lang ist, habe ich dann etwas mehr in die Breite gezogen und vor allem in der zweiten Hälfte etwas weniger stark gespannt.

Also das mit dem Spannen muß ich wohl noch üben, vor allem worauf soll man denn so was langes spannen? Teppich habe ich keinen…

Als Verbrauch waren 4 Knäuel angegeben, das vierte habe ich aber nur angefangen, bei normaler Länge wären es wohl nur drei gewesen. (Nicht zu vergessen die vielen Maschenproben…) Aber der Schal ist sehr schön geworden, fühlt sich wirklich wie ein Nichts auf der Haut an und wärmt schön.

Jetzt muß ich nur noch meine Tasche fertig häkeln, den Herrenpulli stricken und dann kann ich mich ans nächste Lace Projekt machen… 🙂

Lace SchalMy first lace scarf is finished. I finished knitting quite a while ago, but now I finally managed to block it also.

Which was not so easy..

The pattern is “Large Rectangle with center diamond pattern” from Victorian Lace Today. I used the yarn from the book, Rowan Kidsilk Haze (purchased from Maschenkunst).

The size is defintely a problem. The gauge is in stockinette stitch. After the third test square I had found a needle size that would give me the right number of stitches, but not the rows. So I recalculated the pattern length according to my stockinette gauge and knitted some chart lengthes more.

This resulted in my shawl beeing a good deal longer than the pattern said. It is supposed to be a little less than 2 m, mine is longer (including the knit on border, that could not be measured before). How long I cannot say, because the mattress I use for blocking has only 2m length. So I pulled it a bit larger and especially in the second half a little less in length.

I think blocking is something I’ll have to practise… But how you do that when your longest mattress is 2 m long? (And I have no carpet in my house…)

According to the instructions the shawl lakes 4 balls, I needed only a bit more then three, even though my shawl is longer and I needed 3 samples to determine the gauge. So if you are short on money just reduce the length a bit and you should be able to get away with three. The yarn is worth the money, because the shawl is super lightweight, feels like a nothing on the skin but still quite warming.

Now I only have to finish my crocheted bag, then the men’s sweater for my friend and then I can start my next lace project…
