February is “Month of Motivation” for shirts. And as I had a lot of time on the weekend of carneval (it’s a big issue here, so everybody joins in and those who don’t can have a great and quiet time, because nobody will disturb them) I wanted to do the shirt in the beginning of the month, to have it done.

So last Friday I went to Frau mhs, copied my pattern from the BWOF issue, sized it up, got some knit from here to make a testgarment. The weekend I made some more adjustments on the pattern and on monday I went to Silvia and we locked ourselves in in her shop and I cut my shirt. This went surprisingly well, even though my fabric is an ultrathin, ultrasoft viscose knit. I did not cut all pieces at once, but I did fold a part of the fabric, making sure I’m doing it exactely along the direction of the tinytinytiny stitches, cut one or two pieces, refolded,… and so on.

*grr*

Only.. the knit fabric was knit in rounds, so, when you make your fold according to the stitches (“grain” is probabely not the word, because it’s not woven?), the two layers of fabric will not match at the upper and lower end. One layer will be shorter than the other. Well… the shorter one was the lower one, so one of my sleeves was about three centimeters to short at the sleevecap.

Okay, instant punishment for lazyness, one could have cut it as single layers. What I did with the second sleeve. I even remembered to flip the pattern, to have two different sleeves.

Today I had planned to finish the shirt. Just sewing in the sleeves and hemming it.

Well… I did flip the pattern… but I had evidently also turned the fabric. Makes two right sleeves and zero left sleeves…

So my mood is about as black as the shirt.

(Luckily there is enough fabric left for a second sleeve. I had intended to cut and sew two shirts from that fabric. So I will end up with a piece of fabric that will be just not enough to make a second one. )-: )
