Fresh from the needles April 2017

Zugeschnittenes SchweinchenNein, das ist keine Vodoo Puppe, sondern Stoffreste meines Shirts, dessen Fortschritt ich im Februar gezeigt hatte. (Das Shirt ist fertig und seit wenigen Tagen auch photographiert. Kommt also auch noch.) Da der Stoff so schön pink ist, habe ich mir aus dem Aranzi Aronzo Buch die Anleitung für ein Schweinchen rausgesucht.

No, this is not a Vodoo doll, these are remnants from the shirt I’ve shown here as WIP in February. (Meanwhile it’s finished and even photographed since Saturday, so I will show that also in not too long.) Since the fabric is very… pink I picked from my book by Aranzi Aronzo the pattern for a piggy.

SockenSockentechnisch bin ich schon zwei Paar Socken weiter. (Ja, der Flaschenhals ist im Moment das Photographieren.) Ich arbeite schon für unsere diesjährige Weihnachtsaktion für Obdachlose und wie man sieht, gibt es wieder Socken. Das ist mein zweites Paar dafür, am Schaft der zweiten Socke angekommen. Wie man unschwer erkennt, sind es Restesocken.

Sockwise taking the pictures is the bottleneck, because those are already the second pair since February. They are already for the christmas party for the homeless charity this year. I started the leg part of the second sock. As you can easily see it’s socks from the remnants.

MohairpulliMein Strickoberteil ist ein ganze Stück weiter gekommen. Es hat einen Saum und hat zwei Teilärmel. Zuerst habe ich auf der einen Seite bis zur letzten roten Reihe gestrickt. Dann die andere Seite, damit ich nicht zu viel auftrennen muß, falls das rote Garn doch nicht reicht. Dann die andere Seite bis vor die erste braune Reihe. Jetzt habe ich den Rest vom roten Garn gewogen und denke, daß es reichen sollte. Also kann ich jetzt doch den ersten Ärmel fertig stricken und muß kein zusätzliches braunes Knäuel anfangen. Kompliziert, oder?

My knitted top did advance a lot. It has a hem and has two partial sleeves. I did the first sleeve until the last red row. Then I started the other side, so I will not have to back knit too many rows if the red yarn was not enough. Then I knitted the other side up to just before the first brown row. Now I’ve weight the rest of the red yarn and think it should be enought. So next will be to finish the first sleeve and I will not have to start an extra skein of yarn. Kind of complicated, not?

Lace TuchDas Lacetuch ist im vierten Rapport des Mittelteils und ich habe das dritten Knäuel Garn angefangen. Sieht allmählich nach Tuch aus…

My lace shawl is somewhere in the forth main repeat and I’ve started the third skein of my yarn. Starts looking like a shawl…

Zum Abschluss noch ein kleiner Blick auf die aktuelle Lektüre. Beides nicht sehr fortgeschritten. Ein französischer Roman, der fürchte ich kein gutes Ende nehmen wird. Und ein Häkelbuch, das schon ewig drauf wartet, für einen Rezension dran zu kommen. Der Anfang gefällt mir schon mal, es werden nämlich Teshäklerinnen erwähnt. Das gibt doch schon mal zur Hoffnung Anlass, daß man auch mit den Anleitungen was anfangen kann. 🙂

And to finish a short look on my books from the night stand. Both more or less just started. I have a French novel which I think will not have a kind of happy ending. And a book about crochet which has been waiting for quite some time to be reviewed. I like the beginning already, because it mentions test crocheters. That gives me hope for good instructions. 🙂

Die Reste sind von meinem Hoodie. Die Anleitung ist wieder aus dem Buch von Aranzi Aronzo und zur Füllung habe ich diesmal Styroporkugeln verwendet, so fällt das Püppchen ganz weich und schlumpelig

Fabric are the remnants of my hoodie, the pattern is again from the book of Aranzi Aronzo and I used polystyrene bills for stuffing, so the whole creature is slouching around.

Styroporkugeln waren ja neu für  mich und ich hatte schon Horrorgeschichten darüber gehört. Der größte Horror war aber, daß ich einen 10L Sack kaufen mußte, aber nur ein paar Eßlöffel gebraucht habe. Zum Einfüllen habe ich einen Metalltrichter und einen Teelöffel benutzt. Das ging gut und die Kugeln blieben auch nicht überall kleben. Die Reste sind immer noch im Sack und nicht in meinem Nähzimmer verteilt. 🙂

Polystyrene bills were new to me and I had heard a lot of bad stories about what happens when you are using them. In the end the biggest horror was, that I had to buy a 10l bag and needed only a few spoons. To stuff the doll I used a stainless steel funnel and a metal teaspoon. That worked fine, the bills did not stick everywhere and all those I did not use are still in the bag and not distributed over my room. 🙂

Elegant Bongo Bear

Aus meinem Buch von Aranzi Aronzo und den Resten des neubezogenen Sofas wurde noch ein Bongo Bär. (Die Anleitung nennt ihn so.)

From the pattern book of Aranzi Aronzo and the remnants of my newly covered sofa I made this Bongo Bear. (That’s what the pattern calls it.)

Schwänzchen
Diese Anleitung sieht auch ein kleines Puschelschwänzchen vor. Das nun aus meine Stoff nicht so sehr puschelt…

This time the instructions call for a little tail. Since my fabric is quite stiff it is rather flat, but it’s there.

Das Gesicht habe ich wie immer vor dem Nähen appliziert und mit der Maschine gestickt. Doch für die Schnauze habe ich was Neues. Ich habe Bosal In-R-Form untergebügelt. Das ist ein Schaumstofflaminat, das es unter anderem beidseitig klebend gibt. Das macht keine Mehrarbeit beim Applizieren, gibt jedoch ein wenig mehr Tiefe und Struktur bei den sonst sehr einfach genähten Kreaturen. Gefällt mir. 🙂

The face I appliqued end embroidered as usual with the sewing machine befor finishing the bear. But for the muzzle I did something new. I attached the pink fabric with Bosal In-R-Form. That is a foam interfacing that exists in a version that sticks on both sides when pressed. So it does not make any more work than normal applique but gives more depth and structure to those otherwise very simple critters. I like that a lot. 🙂

pinkes Stoffkaninchen
Das hier ist sozusagen die etwas größere Cousine von Rosalie Rabbit. Auch das sind wieder Reste von der Jacke und die Anleitung ist von aranzi aronzo. Da das Leinen sehr stark ausfranst, habe ich es vorher mit Vlieseline G785 bebügelt. Die Augen, Nase und Knöpfe sind diesmal aufgenähte Knöpfe.

This is kind of the bigger cousin of Rosalie Rabbit. Again remnants from my vest and the pattern from aranzi aronzo. Since the linen is fraying a lot I used Vlieseline G785 interfacing (iron on). Eyes, noose and buttons are real sewn on buttons this time.

(Und heute hat Paula auch schon eine neue kleine Freundin gefunden, und hoppelte mit ihre davon. 🙂 )

(And Paula did find a new little friend today and jumped off… 🙂 )

genähtes rosa KaninchenDie diesjährigen Ostergröße verrieten es ja schon… ich habe gerade eine rosa Phase. Die Anleitung ist wieder von aranzi aronzo, der rosa Stoff ist Baumwolle, mit der ich meine Jacke unterlegt habe, der pinkfarbene Stoff das Leinen der Belege.

This years Easter greetings already gave a hint… I am feeling pink. So a pink rabbit was the outcome. The pattern is again aranzi aronzo, the pink fabric for the rabbit is the cotton I had used to underline my jacket, the deep pink is the linen fabric from the facings.

Das Leinen ist zum Füllen eigentlich zu grob gewebt, daher habe ich zwei Reste genommen, die ohnehin mit Vlieseline H200 bebügelt waren. Etwas steif, aber für den Körper in Ordnung. Allerdings franste es beim Wenden dann doch noch ziemlich, so daß ich mehrfach nachnähen mußte.

The linen is too loosely woven to stuff it, so I used two remnants that were already ironed with Vlieseline H200. A bit stiff, but okay for the body. In the end it started fraying when I was turning it, so I needed to resew some seams several times.

Da Rosalie an Ostern zu einem kleinen Mädchen hoppelte, sind die Augen, die Nase und die Knöpfe Applikationen, die mit Vliesofix aufgebügelt sind und dann festgenäht. Der Rest ist gestickt mit Mettler Baumwollstickgarn. Die Maschinenstickerei und die Applikationen habe ich vor dem Zusammennähen gemacht. Das finde ich einfacher.

Rosalie jumped off on Easter to a little girl. So eyes, noose and buttons are made as appliquees. The rest was done as machine embroidery with Mettler cotton embroidery thread. I made both steps before sewing the pieces together, I think that is easier.

Hund nach Aranzi Aronzo

Wie man sieht gebe ich mich wieder dem zweckfreien Nähen hin. (Bevor das hier vollends zum Strick- und Häkelblog mutiert…)Das bedeutet auch, mein letztes Jahr angefangener Rock ist fertig (denn ich verarbeite ja die Reste), ich habe nur noch keinen willigen Photographen gefunden.

As you can see there is a bid of sewing without a reason. (Before that becomes a pure knitting and crochet blog…) Which means the skirt I started sewing last year is finished (because I am using the remnants), but I haven’t found a willing photographer yet.

Die Anleitung für den Hund habe ich wieder aus meinem Buch von Aranzi Aronzo und weil mein Stoff nicht gestreift sondern langweilig blau war, habe ich noch ein Hemd von Hand aufgestickt. Das Stickgarn ist “Bloom” von einer neuen indischen Marke namens Quiltweaves, die aber wohl noch im Aufbau ist, so daß da noch nichts zu sehen ist. (Bisher macht die Firma wohl vor allem Dekostoffe in Mumbai.) Ich bekam auf der h&h da eine Tüte voll Pröbchen von so allerhand in die Hand gedrückt und das war eine Gelegenheit, es gleich mal zu testen. Das Stickgarn ist die “einfache Serie”, glänzt nicht so stark und lies sich aber auch mit meinen eher ungeübten Fingern gut verarbeiten. Trotz langer Fäden weder Fadensalat noch aufspleißende Fäden.

The pattern for the dog is again from my book by Aranzi Aronzo and since my fabric is not striped but boringly plain I decided to embroider a top by hand. The embroidery floss is “Bloom” by a very new Indian brand called Quiltweaves. They are evidently still at an early stage for their new brand because the web page does not work yet. (So far they seem to make mostly home dec fabrics in Mumbai.) I got a bunch of stuff stuffed in my hands on the h&h and since I do not handembroider a lot I used the possibility to test the thread. “Bloom” is their “simple thread” and it is less shiny but even with my unexpreienced fingers it stitched very well. I used quite long threads but it did not tangle and I had not problems with breaking thread in the eye of the needle.

The dog has a tail and the “shirt” is embroidered all around, so I will show you the back also.

Now Home…

graue Freunde in Bibliothek… für meine grauen Freunde.

… for my gray friends.

Die sind nämlich nach Niedersachsen gezogen und wohnen jetzt in Quakenbrück, in der Bibliothek der Samtgemeinde Artland.

They’ve moved to Lower Saxonia and live now in Quakenbrück, in the library of the  Samtgemeinde Artland.

Ich würde sagen, sie sehen so aus, als würden sie sich dort sehr wohl fühlen. 🙂

Püppchen in der BibliothekI’d say they look as if they would belong there. 🙂

Und ich bekam dafür von der lieben Sabine Sockenwolle mit Baumwollanteil. Da bin ich nämlich etwas “aufgebraucht”.

And I got sock wool with cotton from Sabine in return. That is something my stash is a little low.

Friends again…

Stoff FreundeAuch Rosie Rabbit hat einen Freund oder eine Freundin genäht bekommen. Diesmal aus Resten meines Nachthemds. Die Haare haben dann gleich noch die Reste der Mütze verbraucht. Die zwar fertig ist, die ich aber noch nicht photographiert habe…

Now my Rosie Rabbit got a sewn friend also. This time from the remnants of my nightshirt. The hairs used up the remnatns of the wool from the hat I’ve finished some time ago. But have not photographed yet…

Die Anleitung ist wieder von Aranzi Aronzo und ich habe das Gesicht wieder mit der Maschine vorher aufappliziert.

StofftierAuch einige Reste von meinem Kleid habe ich für einen kleines Kaninchen aus dem Aranzi Aronzo Buch genutzt. Da der Rosenstoff sehr dünn ist, habe ich ihn doppellagig mit meinem Unterlegstoff verarbeitet.

A part of the remnants of my dress were made into a little rabbit after my Aranzi Aronzo book. Since the rose fabric is really very thin and see through I underlined it with the same fabric as the dress.

Für Augen, Mund und Ohren habe ich Fleece verwendet und alles vor dem Zusammennähen aufgenäht. So geht es deutlich schneller als von Hand. Der großgemusterte Stoff gibt Rosie noch mehr Individualität. Finde ich.

I used fleece fabric for eyes, mouth and ears and I’ve sewn it on by machine before assembling the pieces. That is way faster than hand sewing. The fabric with the big print gives Rosie even more personality. I think.

Grey Friends

Graue FreundeIch gab mich mal wieder dem nutzlosen Nähen hin… aus Stoffresten entstanden nach meinem Buch von Aranzi Aronzo diese beiden niedlichen Gesellen.

A bit of refreshingly useless sewing. Using some scraps from my last projects and patterns from my book by Aranzi Aronzo those cute guys were born.

Die Stoffe stammen von meinen letzten Projekten. Die graue Cargohose, die dazu gehörige Jacke und die Wickelbluse, für die ich aber noch keine Schnittkritik geschrieben habe, weil ich noch mit einer Verschlusslösung kämpfe, die sie tragbar machen würde. Die Haare sind Reste von den blauen Handstulpen, leider ist das Garn auch damit nicht aufgebraucht.

graue Freunde im GrasThe fabrics you have mostly already seen, there are the grey cargo-style pants, the jacket and then the wrap top. I haven’t postet the wrap top yet, because I am still fighting to find a closure solution that would make it wearable. The blue hair is leftover yarn from the blue hand warmers. It is still not used up…

Von der Anleitung bin ich mal wieder abgewichen, denn ich habe die Gesichter zuerst mit der Maschine genäht und danach die Figuren zusammengenäht. Die Augen und der Mund sind als “reverse Appliqué” ausgeführt (gibt es da einen deutschen Begriff?), die schwarzen Pupillen aus Fleece dann aufgenäht. Und nachdem ich mir die Halsausschnitte der Kittel angeguckt hatte, habe ich diese zuerst angezogen und die Figuren danach erst gestopft.

I changed the instructions in so far that I made the faces first with the machine. Eyes and mouth are made in reverse apppliqué technique, the black pupils are sewn on top. And after I had evaluated the neckline of the tunics I decided to dress the dolls first and stuff them afterwards.

Sehen die für euch eigentlich wie Mädchen oder wie Jungen aus? Oder einer so, einer so?
