Dress of Loops

In letzter Zeit war es hier ja ruhiger, weil ich “mal eben schnell” ein Kleid brauchte. “Feine” Klamotten wären ja kein Problem gewesen, aber ein einfaches Sommerkleid (das nicht alt und etwas verblichen ist) fehlte grade. (Kein Wunder, wir hatten ja drei Jahre so gut wie keinen Sommer.)

Last weeks were quite quiet here because I needed a dress “quickly”. Special occasion wouldn’t have been a problem, but a simple “normal” summer dress was. At least if I wanted one that was not already a bit worn or faded. (No wonder, the last three years we didn’t have something that could have been called “summer”, so I didn’t need new clothes.)

Also durfte wieder mein bewährter Kleidschnitt von Vogue (V7896) ran. Wer mal vergleichen will: auch das braune und das blaue Kleid sind aus dem gleichen Schnitt entstanden. Der Stoff kommt aus Paris, von Sacré Coupons. Der Stoff ist eine weiße Baumwoll-Popeline mit applizierten Kreisen aus Stoff und Tüll. Diese laufen als Bordüre auf dem Stoff. Und ich dachte erst mal daran, sie als Saumbordüre zu verwenden.

So my dress pattern from Vogue (V7896) came out again. If you want to compare: this brown and that blue dress were made out of this pattern also. The fabric is from Sacré Coupons in Paris, it is a white popeline in cotton and the fabric and tulle circles are embroidered on. It’s an embroidery along the border so I thought to have it along the hem.

Doch dann habe ich den Stoff im Hobbyschneiderin24 Forum gezeigt und da brachte man mich auf die Idee, es ginge ja auch längst. Daraufhin mußte ich den Schnitt mal wieder neu “verbasteln”. Die Breite des Seitenteils richtete sich nach dem Stoff und ich habe den Brustabnäher dort teilweise eingearbeitet. Die Abnäherspitze bleibt auf dem vorderen Mittelteil, ebenso die Längsabnäher auf dem Rückenteil.

But then I showed the fabric at the Hobbyschneiderin24 Forum and there somebody had the idea to have it running lengthwise. So I had to change the pattern again. The front has side panels, the width according to the pattern on the fabric. Part of the breast dart went into the shaping of the side panels, the length darts remained on the middle panel and on both back parts.

Ein weißes Sommerkleid darf dann auch bei mir mal ungefüttert sein. Daher muß das Innenleben natürlich auch entsprechend verarbeitet werden: Breite französische Nähte für die meisten Stellen und eingefasste Nahtzugaben. Dafür reichte mein Stoff nicht mehr (es war nur noch die zweite Bordüre übrig), aber nicht weit von mir ist Stoff Özcan und die konnten mit einer feinen, weißen Baumwolle aushelfen. Die konnte ich dann auch gleich verwenden, um den Halsausschnitt und die Armausschnitte mit Schrägband zu verstürzen.

A white summer dress wants to be unlined, so the inside has to look neat also. So I made the seams as French seams (most of them) and bound all remaining fabric edges with a thin white cotton fabric. The dress fabric wasn’t enough for that (because everything left was embroidered) but there is a fabric store, Stoff Özcan, close to my place and they had the right fabric for that. And I could use it also to make kind of bias cut “facings” for the neckline and the arm openings

Eine weitere Herausvorderung bei ungefütterten Kleidern ist der Reißverschluß. Die Enden kratzen ja immer…. deswegen ein kleiner Stoffstreifen darüber.

Another problem with unlined dresses is the zip. The ends would be scratchy… so I made a fabric tab over it.

Damit es hinten nicht so langweilig ist, gibt es dort auch noch mal einige Kringel. 🙂

Trotz einiger Fehler bin ich mit dem Ergebnis zufrieden. (Der Brustpunkt ist zu hoch, zumindest für diesen BH….) Ich mag einfach weiß im Sommer, weil es so frisch wirkt!

Even though there are some fitting mistakes (the breast point is to high, at least for that bra) I like the result. White is such a great and fresh color for a hot summer!

Für das Styling hatte ich diesmal Lust auf grün. Die Handtasche und den Schal habe ich auch in Paris gefunden. Der Armreif ist aus Indien, den habe ich schon beim vorletzten Besuch gekauft, einfach nur weil er mir so gut gefiel. Obwohl ich doch eigentlich (fast) nie grün trage.

For the styling I somehow wanted green, a rare color for me.  But when I saw the shawl and the handbag in Paris all was clear. And the wooden bangle is somehing I’ve purchased at my first trip to India because I liked it so much. Even though I never (hardly ever) wear green.

(Und falls sich jemand wundert, warum ich an einem Hochsommertag geschlossene Schuhe trage: Es war klar, daß es vom späten Nachmittag bis in die Nacht hinein gehen würde. Und dann bekomme ich doch kalte Füße… )

(If anybody wonders why I am not wearing sandals on a hot summer day: It was clear the day would start in late afternoon and go into the night. And then I would have had cold feet after sun set….)
