Irish Design…. 2015

If “Irish Design” makes you think of celtic knots or triskelion then you do not know all. At least that’s what I found out recently in Dublin when I visited the Fresh Talent exhibition.

The exhibit features young Irish designers working with very different materials, of course I gave the closest looks to the textile designs.

Stoffeffekt von Rebecca MarsdenThe works from Rebecca Marsden fascinated me for how she combines very different materials and the effects she is getting from them.

A soft fabric seems to fall in complicated and soft waves over the body. While at the same time it looks as stabile as protective armor. Combining soft and sheer fabric with metal is fabric manipulation at its best.

Interesting structure in pattern construction was what caught my attention in this jacket by Sinéad Kennedy.

Sadly the photo does the architectural shape of the jacket not really justice, even thought I tried to light it up a lot. The garment is black….

The next models reminded me spontaneously of Vivienne Westwood. What is a little less surprising when one knows that Richard Malone studied at St. Martins College…

On the first look the ensemble looks very theatrically and not really wearable. But then… leave the hat and imagine each element alone, combined with other clothing… quite a different picture.

Also I liked the embroidery details. They must have been quite tricky to make…

Danke!

The exhibition is free and you can see it until 09/20/15  in the “Coach House” of Dublin Castle. It is organized by Irish Design 2015, who shows other thrilling aspects of design Made in Ireland throughout the year. And I thank them for the permission to take pictures and  publishe them also!
