Fast decoration for confiture jars!

Marmeladengläser

Dieses Jahr habe ich meine Marmeladengläser mal anders beschriftet. Nicht mit Sticken, sondern mit einem normalen Stift. Mit selbstklebendem Stoff von Domotex aus Frankreich. Da habe ich einige Samples zum Testen für die hobbyschneiderin24-Seite bekommen und ich finde, daß sich das auch für meine Marmeladengläser anbietet. Einfach Kreise mit dem Zirkel auf die Rückseite zeichnen, ausschneiden, beschriften und dann die Folie abziehen und aufkleben. Da es Stoff ist und kein Papier passt es sich auch den etwas gebogenen Deckeln sehr gut an. Beschriftet habe ich hier mit Sharpie, aber Stabilo oder sogar ein Füllfederhalter mit schwarzer Tinte ergaben auch eine lesbare Schrift. Die nicht mal verläuft. Das ging dieses Jahr deutlich schneller als sonst. 🙂

This year I used a different technique to mark my confiture jars. No embroidery but a normal pen. On the self adhesive fabric by Domotex from France. I had gotten samplex from them to test it for the hobbyschneiderin24 web site and I thought that should look nice on my jars. Simply drawing circles on the back side of the fabric, cut it out, writing year and what kind of fruit it is on it and then removing the protective sheet and stick it on. Since it is fabric and not paper it adheres without wrinkles to the metal lids that are slightly curved. I used a Sharpie to write on them, but a Stabilo and even a fountain pen with black ink did work fine. This task was done a lot faster this year then the years before… 🙂

Grannie Potholder

gehäkelter TopflappenUnd noch ein Topflappen… Diesmal dachte ich mir, ein Grannie Square ist doch auch nur ein Topflappen, nur in klein… also habe ich einfach das Muster 117 aus dem Buch “Beyond the Square” von Edie Eckman genommen und noch viele, viele Runden angehäkelt. Schon wird es ein Topflappen. Das Garn ist wieder das Baumwollgarn “Camilla” von Woll Butt, verarbeitet mit Häkelnadel 2,5mm.

Häkeltopflappen mit NoppenAgain a pot holder… I thought that a Grannie Square is basically a potholder, too. Just smaller. So I choose motif 117 from the book “Beyond the Square” by Edie Eckman and added a lot of rounds. And got a potholder. The yarn is again “Camilla” by Woll Butt and I used a 2.5mm hook.

(In der Praxis ist er dann doch nicht so dicht, wie ich gehofft hatte… für den Herd okay, um Sachen aus dem Ofen zu holen sollte man eher einen zweiten unterlegen.)

(The result is a little less dense than I had hoped… okay to manipulate a pot on the stove, but to fetch things from the oven it’s a good idea to layer it with another one.)

A dash of Lemon

Topflappen
Ja, so lange ich noch Baumwollgarn habe, häkle ich noch Topflappen. Hier mal eine dunkle Variante in grau und schwarz mit einzelnen Feldern in Zitronengelb.

Yes, as long as I am not running out of the cotton yarn I will crochet potholders. Here a dark version in gray and black with accents in lemon.

TopflappenDas Garn ist nach wie vor “Camilla” von Woll Butt und in festen Maschen häkelt man eine gute Weile an einem großen Topflappen. Die Maße sind ungefähr 27 cm x 30 cm. Und ich schaffe es leider nicht, ein Muster vorher so auszurechnen, daß es hinterher wirklich quadratisch ist. Stört zum Glück bei der Benutzung nicht…

The yarn is still “Camilla” by Woll Butt and in single crochet it takes a while until a larger potholder is finished. The size is about 27 cm x 30 cm. And I am too stupid to figure out patterns that make really square potholders. But the usefulness is not affected by that….

Barbiekleid im Entstehen
Beim Nähen hat sich in den letzten zwei Monaten tatsächlich nichts Großes getan. Kleinzeug jede Menge und irgendwann schaffe ich es auch mal, die Bilder davon zu machen und einzustellen… dann noch sehr viel (langweilige) Stopfwäsche…. so daß ich im Moment fast genau da bin, wo ich vor zwei Monaten auch war: Ein Barbiekleid. Aber nicht das gleiche und das hier ist auch fast fertig, dem fehlen vor allem die Knöpfe hinten.

As far is sewing is concerned indeed nothing big has happened within the last two months. I made several small items which I am sure I will manage to photograph and show here one day… a huge pile of repair work… but to sum it up I am nearly at the same point as two months ago: A dress for a Barbie doll. Not the same and this time it is nearly finished. Only the sew on snaps are missing.

gestrickter Schal mit SpitzenmusterMein Lace-Schal macht auch Fortschritte. Wie man sieht habe ich neue Roccailles bekommen und bin jetzt beim zweiten Teil kurz bevor der regelmäßige Rapport beginnt.

Now there is progress on my lace shawl. As you can see I got more beads and the second part is now just a few rows short before the main part with the regular repeats starts.

helle Socken mit ZopfmusterSocken bin ich um ein Paar weiter. Das Muster ist fast das gleiche wie bei den letzten Zopfsocken (mit kleinen Verbesserungen… einen Vorteil muß man ja davon haben, daß beim ersten Mal das Garn nicht gereicht hat), nur diesmal mit einem deutlich längeren Schaft. Trotz des Zopfmusters reicht diesmal die Wolle auch wie gewohnt. Wer auch immer sich das ausgedacht hatte… die Opal Sockenwolle die ich beim ersten Versuch verwendet hatte lief ganz sicher nicht 420m auf 100g… (Oder es waren keine 100g…)

I moved to the next pair of socks. The pattern is nearly the same as for the last ones (with minor modifications… at least one advantage from having to do it a second time because the yarn did not run long enough on my first version) and with a longer leg part. Even though I do the same cables the yarn is largely enough, as I  am used to. Who ever wrote it down… the Opal sock wool I had used for the last version did never ever run 420m on 100g… (Or it were not 100g….)

HäkeltopflappenDas Baumwollgarn will ich jetzt auch weiter aufbrauchen, also gab es seither noch etliche Topflappen. Wenn die Zählung stimmt müßte das jetzt Nummer sieben sein. Der ist fast fertig. Und ja, ich habe jetzt eigentlich genug Topflappen. Aber es ist noch Garn übrig, also gibt es mindestens noch einen.

I want to use the cotton yarn I had purchased to make pot holders. So there were several crocheted potholders over the last two months. If my counting is correct that should be number seven. Which is nearly finished. And yes, I have enough pot holders now. But there is still yarn, so after that there will be at least one more.

zwei BücherAnd die Lektüre vom Nachttisch habe ich auch gedacht. Den Roman habe ich mir im Winter gekauft, weil ich irgendwann letztes Jahr die Autorin im “Chez Gladines” getroffen habe und nach dem Gespräch neugierig auf das Buch war (das zu dem Zeitpunkt noch nicht erschienen war). Und jetzt kam ich endlich dazu, es zu lesen. (Wobei inzwischen auch die deutsche Übersetzung erschienen ist…) Der Roman bewegt sich zwischen Liebesgeschichte und Erlebnissen im späten Kommunismus in Bulgarien. Was zugegebenermaßen ein Thema ist, über das ich praktisch gar nichts weiß. Es liest sich so weit unterhaltsam, kann sich aber irgendwie nicht in letzter Konsequenz entscheiden, ob es die Liebesgeschichte oder die politische Geschichte in den Fokus rücken will. Das Sachbuch geht wieder ums Nähen und lag der Threads Archiv DVD kostenlos bei. Es richtet sich an Anfänger und hat einerseits einen lockeren Ton, ist aber andererseits sehr systematisch und gründlich (bis hin zur Einrichtung eines Nähplatzes) wie ich es noch selten gesehen habe. Sehr Empfehlenswert, wenn man gut genug Englisch kann.

Not to forget the books from my night stand. The French novel I purchased because I met the author last year at “Chez Gladines” in Paris and while chatting she mentioned the book (which was not printed yet) and made me curious enough to buy it when It finally came out. Then it took me a while to find the time to read it. (Meanwhile the German translation was available also.) It’s part love story and partly tells a bit about politics at the area of the late communism in Bulgaria (which is something I hardly know anything about). It ready nicely but it seems as if the author could finally not decide if she wanted the focus on the private love story or the political story. My non-fiction book is from Threads and I got it for free with my Threads archive DVD. It’s written for beginners who want to sew and is written in a not complicated language but the same time very structured. Seldom seen handled that topic so well. So highly recommended for anyone who wants to start sewing.

Scrambled eggs on bread

HäkeltopflappenDas Muster ist das gleiche wie hier. Nur habe ich die Farben etwas anders verteilt und eine 2mm Häkelnadel genommen. Außerdem einige Maschen mehr angeschlagen. So gefällt mir die Größe besser und es ist alles etwas dichter, was für einen Topflappen ja generell eine gute Idee ist.

Pattern is the same as here. I distributed the colors differently and choose a smaller (2mm) hook. And I cast on some more stitches. Now I like the size better and the densitiy is more useful for a potholder.

Potholder II

Topflappen in gelbIm Moment ist bei mir Häkeln angesagt. Meinen Lace-Schal kann ich mangels Perlen nicht weiterstricken, also mache ich mich dran, das viele Baumwollgarn aufzubrauchen, das ich letztes Jahr für Topflappen gekauft habe.

Crochet is on at the moment. I can’t continue my lace shawl because I am out of beads, so I continue to use up all the cotton yarn I’ve purchased end of last year to make pot holders.

Hier sind es zwei Gelbtöne und weiß von “Camilla” von Woll Butt. Das Muster nennt sich “Playblocks” und ist aus dem Vogue Stitchionary Band 4, “Crochet”. Mit 2,5 Häkelnadel vielleicht noch etwas locker und mit 16cm x 17 cm vielleicht noch etwas klein. Da kommt noch mehr…

Here I used two shades of yellow plus white from “Camilla” by Woll Butt. The pattern is called “playblocks” and I took it from the Vogue Stitchionary 4, “Crochet”. With the 2.5mm hook is is maybe still a bit loose and with a size of 16cm x 17cm maybe a bit small. There is more to come…

Second provisory….

Als ich 2009 das Sofa neu bezogen habe, hätte ich nicht gedacht, daß ich das noch mal mache. So lange sollte das Sofa eigentlich gar nicht mehr da sein. Aber wie das so ist… es ist noch da. Nur der neue Bezug war wieder durch. Die letzten zwei Jahre lag schon wieder eine Decke drüber. Das war aber auch kein Dauerzustand.

When I made a new cover for my sofa in 2009 I had never thought I would have to do that again. The sofa was not intended to live so much longer. But how live goes… it is still there. Just the new cover from 2009 was done. And for the last two years I had it covered with the old plaid. But that was not the most useful thing either.

Also habe ich mich wieder dran gemacht… Diesmal mit einem etwas festeren Möbelstoff mit mehr Kunstfaseranteil. (Von “Franck Ameublement” in Paris. Webseite haben die keine…) Außerdem habe ich den Stoff nicht nur längs auf das Vlies gesteppt, sondern auch quer. Wir lernen ja, ich denke ein Grund dafür, daß der letzte Bezug relativ schnell durch war lag daran, daß sich der Stoff noch recht großzügig gegenüber dem Vlies bewegen konnte.

So I did it again… This time with a fabric that is a bit firmer and has a higher content of polyester fiber. (From “Franck Ameublement” in Paris. No, they do not have a website…) Also I quilted the fabric lengthwise and widthwise on the batting. I am able to learn and I think one reason why the cover did not last that long was, that the fabric and the batting could move a lot against each other.

Jetzt ist das Sofa rot. 🙂 Diesmal inklusive der Seitenteile.

Ich habe noch eine zweite Verbesserung eingeführt: Es gibt einen festen Gummi, der den Bezug der Länge nach an der Unterseite spannt und zwei Gummis jeweils in Höhe der “Knickstellen” die das gleiche quer tun. Bisher hält das gut und ich muß den Bezug nicht immer wieder zurecht ziehen.

I added a second improvement: I attached firm elastic on the underside. One string goes lenghtwise and two strings go widthwise under the “folds” of the sofa. So the cover stays firm on the sofa and I do not have to rearrange it every day.

Dressing the wine

Die Parade der Kleinigkeiten geht weiter… Eine Flasche Wein (oder in diesem Fall ein Crème de Pêche de vigne) ist ja immer ein schönes Geschenk, aber irgendwie muß man sie auch noch einpacken.

The gallery of the small finished items continues… A bottle of wine (or in this case a Crème de Pêche de vigne) is always a nice gift, but it needs a kind of wrapping.
Tasche für Flasche
Also durften mal wieder ein paar Stoffreste ran. Die Herstellung war einfach, ich habe die Flasche ausgemessen und ein Stoffquadrat zugeschnitten, das etwas größer war als der Flaschendurchmesser. Das habe ich mit Decovil (zugeschnitten ohne Nahtzugabe) bebügelt und den Futterstoff draufgelegt. (Vor allem deswegen, weil der äußere Stoff nicht fest genug war.) Die Seitenteile habe ich dann einige Zentimeter länger gemacht, als die Flasche hoch ist und so breit wie meine “Grundplatte”. (Auch gedoppelt mit dem festeren Futterstoff.) Oben kleine Ausschnitte als Henkel und dann alles von rechts mit silbernem Stickgarn im Satinstich zusammengenäht. Am Ende noch die restlichen Nahtzugaben abschneiden. Und schon konnte die Flasche nicht nur gut getragen, sondern auch schmuck überreicht werden. Ohne Plastiktüte. 🙂

So I needed some fabric scraps. Making the bag was easy. I measured the diameter of the bottle and cut a fabric square a little bigger. Then I ironed Decovil on it (cut without the seam allowances) and added a layer of lining fabric. (Mostly because the outer fabric is very soft and not stabile enough.) The sides are some centimeters longer that the height of the bottle and the same width as the bottom. (I also added a second layer of the firmer lining fabric.) On top I cut openings to create handles and then I seamed it with silver embroidery thread in satin stitch from the right side. In the end I cut of the remaining fabric from the seam allowances. And I could not only carry the bottle in style but also give it away. No platic bag needed. 🙂

Christmascookies??? … Now???

Kekse in HerzformDas war zumindest die Reaktion meiner besseren Hälfte auf die letzte Backaktion. Aber natürlich sind es keine Weihnachtskekse, weil es ist ja nicht Weihnachten. Jetzt ist es Teegebäck. 😀 Und bei meiner Massenproduktion vor Weihnachten habe ich für so aufwendige Aktionen ja keine Zeit. 😛

That’s at least what DH said, when he saw my latest baking results. But of course they are not Christmas cookies, because it’s not Christmas. Now they are just cookies. 😀 And with the amount of cookies I am making before Christmas I do not have the time for cookies that require so many steps. 😛

400 Hexagons…

400 Hexagons…
Häkeldecke… etwa 6 Kilometer Garn und etwa drei Jahre und neun Monate Häkeln hat es gedauert. Aber jetzt ist meine Häkeldecke fertig und ich liebe sie. Ein einmaliges Stück und es war die Mühe wert.

… about 6 kilometers of yarn and about three years and nine months of crocheting was what it took to create this blanket. But it’s finished now and I love it. Really a unique piece and worth doing it.

Zur Zusammenfassung: es waren zwei verschiedene Häkelmotive (Nummer 30 und Nummer 54) aus dem Buch Beyond the Square von Edie Eckman und die verwendeten Garne waren “Boulino”, “Mystik” und “Samoa” von GGH, “Linen” von Katia, “Basics Capello” von Lana Grossa, “Morena” (in zwei Farben) von Schachenmayr nomotta,”Melange” von Zarina sowie “Bea” von Zettl. 400 Hexagons ergeben eine Decke von etwa 150cm x 200cm und fürs Zusammenhäkeln habe ich ziemlich genau vier Knäuel gebraucht.

To sum it up: I were two different crochet motifs (30 and 54) from the book Beyond the Square by Edie Eckman. The yarns I used were Boulino”, “Mystik” and “Samoa” by GGH, “Linen” by Katia, “Basics Capello” by Lana Grossa, “Morena” (in two colors) by Schachenmayr nomotta,”Melange” by Zarina and “Bea” by Zettl. 400 Hexagons make a blanket in the size 150cm x 200cm. Crocheting all the hexagons together took four skeins of yarn.

Die Garne sind nicht ganz gleich dick und die beiden Motive haben nicht die gleiche Maschenzahl, aber durch die Verwendung unterschiedlich starker Häkelnadeln und durch etwas Recken und Bügeln vor dem Zusammenhäkeln gleicht sich das am Ende aus, die Decke liegt flach. 🙂

The yarns do not all have the same weight and the motifs I choose do not have the same number of stitches. But by using crochet hooks of different sizes and then stretching and pressing the patches before attaching them it all evened out in the end. The blanket lays flat. 🙂

übrige Häkelteile Jetzt sind noch 80 Hexagons und etwa 600g verschiedener Garne übrig. Mal sehen, ob ich das irgendwie los werde…. Denn nein, ich mag keine gehäktelten Sofakissen…

Now I have about 80 hexagons and nearly 600g of different yarns left. Let’s see how I can get rid of those… Because no, I do not want grannie cushions.
