Breezy sandal liners
Nachdem sich meine Füßlinge im Praxistest bewährt haben, brauche ich noch mehr davon und nachdem es dann wirklich heiß war, versuchte ich mich an einer luftigeren Variante.
Wer noch 15g Garn für einen Versuch übrig hat, kann hier die Anleitung finden.
My sandal liners were useful so I need more of that kind. Since it was really hot then I tried a more breezy version.

DIY computerized sewing machine
Die Computermaschine mit den vielen Zierstichen ist unerschwinglich? Macht nix, man kann auch eine alte Zickzackmaschine umbauen. Auf Upcraft kann man sehen wie.
Computerized sewing machine with zillions of decorative stitches is to expensive. No problem, take an old zigzag machine and make one yourself. Upcraft shows how.
Back to the neeldes!
Donnerstag kam ich endlich wieder in die Maschenkunst um meine Nadel auszutauschen. Dummerweise waren die langen Spitzen in der passenden Stärke gerade aus. 🙁
Thursday I found the time to go to my LYS to exchange the tip. Only the right size wasn’t available. 🙁
Aber Daniela hat mir eine andere reklamierte Spitze gegeben, denn ich will ja weiterstricken. Die hat auch einen kleinen Grat, aber besser als meine Nadel. Außerdem ist im Moment fast alles besser als nicht weiterstricken…
Wie man sieht ist der Schal nämlich schon sehr weit fortgeschritten und ich will ihn für diesen Sommer. (So ich ihn nicht schon wieder verpaßt habe…)
But then Daniela got out another tip in the right size that she had exchanged from someone else. This one is not completely smooth either, but I want to knit on and its even better than my old one.
As the pic shows is the shawl already quite well in progress and I want it for this summer. (If I haven’t already missed it…)
If I mess it up, then I don’t stop halfway
Endlich habe ich mal wieder an der Jeans weitergearbeitet. Eine innere Beinnaht war noch zu machen, Kappnaht natürlich. Also brav erste Naht genäht, ausgebügelt, noch mal genau geguckt und dann losgeschnitten, um die untere Nahtzugabe zurückzuschneiden.
Finally I went on with my jeans. one of the inner leg seams was to sew, flat felled of course. So I sewed the first seam, pressed the seam open, checked and started cutting back the under seam allowance. (Hm, is there a word for that?)
Nachdem ich 2/3 durch war merkte ich es….. es war die obere Nahtzugabe.
MISTMISTMISTMIST! Nein, ich habe nicht genug Stoff um neu zuzuschneiden. Und ich komme auch nicht zu dem Laden in Paris um mal eben nachzukaufen.
After I had cut my way 2/3 up the leg I detected that it was the upper seam allowance I was cutting.
BUGGERBUGGERBUGGER! No, I do not have emough fabric to cut another leg. And I can not just go to the shop in Paris to buy more.
Also brute force. G785 aufgebügelt und mit einem Stopfstich drübernäht. Stoß an Stoß.
So brute force. Ironing G785 on and then sewing with a darning stitch over it.
Ob das hält wird sich zeigen.

Von außen sieht es im Moment sogar relativ unauffällig aus, denn der dunkle Nähfaden paßt gut zum Stoff. Wenn die Jeans ausbleicht wird sich das aber ändern. Aber dann ist immer noch früh genug ein dekoratives Band drauf zu nähen.
From the outside it looks relatively inconspicous, because the dark thread fits the fabric well. But when the fabric starts to bleach out that will be different. But then it is early enough to sew a ribbon over it.
Aber sicherheitshalber werde ich diese Naht bei beiden Hosenbeinen drei mal absteppen… oder vielleicht sollte ich doch besser nie wieder eine Nähmaschine anfassen und nur noch stricken… :-/
But I’ll topstitch a third row in the middle… or maybe I should never touch my sewing machine again and stay with knitting. :-/
Stopped by the circumstances
Meine Testerei hat ja schon zu einem fleißigen Stricken an einem Ärmelschal geführt, die ich gerne diesen Spätsommer noch tragen würde.
My swatching did already lead to a good part of a shrug, because I*d like to wear it at least at the end oft this summer.
Nur habe ich bei dem dünnen Garn gemerkt, daß meine KnitPro Spitzen in Stärke 3mm einen Spalt zwischen Metall und Holz hatten, wo das Garn festklemmte. Also war ich Freitag bei meinem freundlichen Wolladen und bekam die Spitze auch umgetauscht. Nur wußte ich die Stärke nicht mehr genau, also hat Daniela mit dem KnitPro Maß nachgemessen und festgestellt, es muß wohl 3,25 sein und hat sie so ausgetauscht.
Zuhause habe ich nachgeguckt und auf der Packung stand 3mm. Hm. Und beim Stricken fühlte es sich auch irgendwie… falsch an. Also habe ich mal das “echte Werkzeug” geholt, die Schieblehre.
But knitting with that fine yarn I found out that my KnitPro tips have a gap between wood and metal that catches the yarn. So on friday I went to my friendly LYS where Daniela was very willing to change the tips. Since I wasn’t sure what size the tips were. So she measured with the KnitPro gauge and decided it was 3,25mm and gave me a 3,25mm tip as replacement.
At home I checked the empty package which said 3mm. Hm. And knitting with it felt somehow…. wrong. So I got out the “real tool”, a Vernier caliper.
Und siehe da, die alte Nadel ist auch 3mm und die ausgetauschte 3,25mm. Das Maß von KnitPro ist wohl nicht ganz exakt. Jetzt kann ich nicht weiterstricken, bis ich wieder zum Laden komme. *grr*
(Zum Trost habe ich Socken angeschlagen…)
Result: the old one is indeed 3mm, the new one 3,25mm. The KnitPro gauge is a tiny bit off. So I can’t knit on until I’ll make it to the shop someday next week. *grr*

Nearly gone wrong
Ja, manchmal nähe ich auch noch…
Zum Beispiel die Jeans für dich ich vor zwei Monaten oder so den Stoff schon gekauft habe. Die Anleitung lese ich natürlich nicht, zumal sie bei echten Kappnähten ohnehin nicht funktioniert, deswegen notiere ich mir auch alles wichtige auf der Schnittkopie. Die Nahtzugabe natürlich nicht, die ist doch bei Butterick durchweg 1,5 cm. Und Standards muß man ja nicht aufschreiben.

Like the Jeans I bought the fabric about two months ago. I don’t read the instructions, I know how to construct jeans plus the original instructions don’t work for flat felled seams. So I’m writing everything important directly on my copy of the pattern. Not the seam allowance, of course, that is always 1,5cm with Butterick, so I don’t have to put it down.
Was mir aber beim Annähen des Taschenbeutels an den Eingriff komisch vor kam war, daß beide Paßmarken innerhalb der Nahtzugabe lagen. Schon irgendwie komisch…? Also gucke ich doch mal in die Anleitung, bevor ich die Nahtzugabe zurückschneide.
On the other hand… when I was sewing the pockets to the fronts I thought it odd that all those marks were inside the seam allowance. Strange…? So I checked the instructions before I cut back the seam allowance.
Und siehe da… am Tascheneingriff ist nur ein Zentimeter Nahtzugabe vorgesehen. Dann verläuft die Naht auch durch die Paßzeichen… Anleitung Lesen bringt doch was. Und jetzt trenne ich die innere Naht wieder auf…
And surprise, surprise… the pockets have only 1 cm seam allowance. The the seam goes through the marks… Reading the instructions sometimes is not completely useless. Not I’m going to rip the inner seam…
Swatching big
Nachdem ich jetzt brav alle Projekte beendet habe, ist es an der Zeit, meine nächste Lace-Stola vorzubereiten.
I was a very nice girl and finished all my knitting projects, so it’s about time to prepare the next lace shawl.
Ich hatte eine bestimmte Idee im Kopf, aber obwohl ich mehrere hundert Muster bei Ravelry durchgesehen habe, gab es nichts, was meiner Idee entsprach.
Also war mal wieder großes Testen angesagt…. Mal sehen, welche der angestrickten Muster ich für das Projekt verwenden werde…
I had a certain idea in my head ans started searching ravelry. But some hundreds of patterns later I wasn’t wiser. Nothing did match my idea.
So swatching time again…. Let’s see which of the pattern will make it into my shawl…
Nachdem die erste Version aus Noro Kureyon die Waschmaschine und den Tragetest so weit überstanden hat, habe ich das Muster dann auch mit meiner bewährten Regia Sockenwolle ausprobiert.
My first Skew from Noro Kureyon survived wearing and the washing machine, so I tried the pattern on my trusted Regia sockyarn.
Der sehr kurze Farbverlauf der “4fädig Color” (ich glaube, die gibt es so nicht mehr) kommt für meinen Geschmack sehr gut zur Geltung. Und um “Gleichheit” der Socken muß man sich auch keine Gedanken machen.
The very short color repeat from “4ply Color” (discontinued I think) works very well with the pattern. And you do not even have to think about wanting identical socks.
Diesmal habe ich die Socken etwas länger gestrickt, trotzdem sitzt die rechte Socke noch arg eng über der Ferse. Die dekorativen Zunahmen schränken die Dehnbarkeit leider noch weiter ein, als es bei der schrägen Strickart ohnehin der Fall ist. (Und mein rechter Fuß ist länger…)
This time I’ve knitted the socks a tad longer but still the right sock is very tight over the heel. The decorative increases and decreases prevent the sock from stretching even more. (Knitting “oblique” already restricts stretchieness quite a lot. And my right foot is the longer one….)
Also muß ich bei der nächsten Version noch etwas zugeben und einen Kompromiss finden, der beiden Füßen gerecht wird.
So more length for the next version and a good compromise that will fit both feet.
Ich habe nämlich auch noch eine selbstmusternde (Regia Tibet Color) Wolle, die richtige Ringel gibt, da könnte ich doch mal wieder versuchen, zwei gleiche Socken zu produzieren. Dazu müssen dann aber beiden Socken die gleiche Reihenzahl habe. Probetragen muß allerdings warten, wegen mir gerne auch einige Monaten…
I still have some selfstriping yarns (Regia Tibet Color) andso I could try to make twins instead of some distant cousins. But then I need the same rowcount for both socks… First time wear will have to wait. As far as I am concerned I can wait some more months…

Vor langer Zeit in diesem Winter wurde eine Schlechtwetterfront namens Daisy angekündigt. Ich versorgte mich mit genug Material um das Wochenende, an dem niemand das Haus verlassen sollte gut zu überstehen. Nun ja, der Sturm fiel im Rheinland weitgehend aus, aber mein Projekt bekam den Namen “Daisy Frost” und ist, pünktlich zum Sommer, auch endlich fertig.
Long ago this winter a storm called “Daisy” was announced. So I made sure to have enough material for the weekend since we were advised not to leave the hose. Well, the storm didn’t really happen here, but my project got the name “Daisy Frost” and is finally finished, right in time for summer.
Über meine Garntests hatte ich ja hier schon geschrieben. Entschieden habe ich mich dann in der Tat das ONline Garn zusammen mit dem Wetterhoff “Silvia” zu verstricken und damit “Zoom” von Lang zu ergänzen.
Ich wollte einen zwar dicken, aber dennoch schmalen Pulli, damit ich auch noch eine Jacke drüberziehen kann. Dicke weite Pullis habe ich noch reichlich, ich trage sie nur nie… Also habe ich einen bereits angepassten Shirtschnitt (also mit FBA) genommen und nach dem die Strickteile ausgerechnet.
About my swatching and the yarns I had already been posting here. My choice in the end was that the ONline yarn in combination with Wetterhoff “Silvia” would work best for my project.
I wanted a warm and thick sweater, but quite body hugging and not bulky. I have a good collection of bulky sweaters I never wear because they dont’t fit under a vest… So I took a pattern for a top I had already tested and adapted (including FBA) and made it into a knitting pattern.
Weil mir die Farben in der Kombination so gut gefielen habe ich mich für ein feines Ringelmuster (eine Reihe pro Farbe mit offenen Reihen) entschieden. Kombiniert mit asymmetrischen Längsrippen im rechts-links Muster.
I liked the combination of the colors so I made fine stripes (one row each) and combined them with a asymmetric very wide ribbing.
Obwohl ich das Shirt schon aus sehr weichem und dehnbaren Viscosejersey genäht hatte wurden Schulternähte und Kragen bei dem Strickpullo doch arg lang. Also habe ich mit einem festen Band eingehalten. (Von Hand aufgenäht.) Dadurch mußte ich den Kragen dann zwar noch mal auftrennen, aber das Ergebnis gefällt mir so gut. Daß der Kragen hinten etwas absteht ist beabsichtigt. Damit sich der Saum nicht rollt habe ich elastisches Chiffonband von Mokuba in Paris von Hand innen gegengenäht. Das war so ungefähr das teuerste an dem Pulli, glaube ich.
The top I had already sewn from very soft rayon knit, but still the knit was softer and neckline and shoulder seams did stretch a lot. I stabilised them with a ribbon I’ve handsewn to the seams and neckline. After that I had to frog the collar and redo it with fewer stitches. Now it still stands on the back but that’s intended, I like the effect. To prevent the hemline from curling I’ve sewn an elastic chiffon ribbon from Mokuba in Paris to it. That was probably the most expensive part of the sweater.
Jetzt muß ich nur noch einen Rock dazu nähen, denn zur Hose sieht es ganz bescheiden aus. (Was aber nicht überraschend ist, denn der Pulli war von vorneherein zum Rock geplant.) Die Idee habe ich schon, aber es sind ja noch drei Nähprojekte offen und außerdem brauche ich das vor dem Herbst ja eh nicht. Hoffe ich wenigstens….

Now I have to sew a skirt to go with the sweater because it looks quite … bad with pants. (No surprise, it had always been planned as a sweater to go with a skirt.) I already do have an idea what to make, but there are still three other sewing projects I’ve already started and want to finish before starting the next one. This will be for autumn anyhow. At least I hope that the summer will no longer create a need for thick sweaters…

Another obstacle to the progress of my own projects
Warum meine eigenen Projekte nicht vorwärts gehen ist gar nicht so schwer zu beantworten, da kommen immer wieder Geschenke dazwischen…
Auch wenn diese klein und süß sind, brauchen sie doch eine Menge Zeit: den Schnitt konstruieren und zeichnen, nähen, feststellen daß ich eine bunte Sammlung verschiedener Druckknöpfe habe, die zwar fast gleich aussehen, aber leider doch nicht zusammenpassen, improvisieren,…
Aber pünktlich zum Sommerbeginn wurde der Babystrampler fertig und wurde auf die Reise geschickt. (Wo er nach der Ankunft sofort in den Koffer gepackt wurde und jetzt mit Baby im Urlaub ist.)
The question why there is no progress in my own projects is not hard to answer: There are always gifts to make.
And even though those are tiny and cute they take time to make: Thinking about a design, constructing the basic pattern, drawing the pattern as used in the end, finding out, that I have a zillion of snaps that look nearly alike but come from different companies and do therefore NOT match, improvise something else…
But the summer romper was finished for the first hot days and is on it’s way to a new baby. (Where it was recieved with joy and went directly in the luggage to go to holiday with baby.)
Wenn jemand auch so einen Anzug nähen möchte, dann laßt mir doch bitte euere Email-Adresse im Kommentar. Ich habe den Schnitt mit einer Kurzanleitung in ein pdf gepackt. Ich hätte aber gerne Feedback, ob der überhaupt paßt, bevor ich ihn hochlade. Ich nähe ja immer nur als Geschenk und sehe daher das Ergebnis nicht unbedingt am Kind…. (Und bevor ich nach der gleichen Schnittbasis noch mehr Mist produziere… ) Die Größe ist für Kinder mit 3 Monaten oder 64cm
If you want to make that romper please leave your email in the comment. I scanned the pattern and made it in a pdf. (But only short sewing instructions in German, so you should know how to sew a romper.) Since I am sewing babyclothes only as gifts I hardly ever see the result on the baby. So I’d like to know if it works, before I go on using my own block and basic pattern any further…. (I do not want to produce useless things….) The size is for Babies aged 3 month or 64cm height.
Edit: Hier gibt es schon eine andere fertige Variante zu sehen.
