Barbie in rotem Kleid
Gilt natürlich auch wieder für die Barbiepuppe. 🙂 Ein Rest des Sofas ergab auch ein Puppenkleid. Wieder aus dem alten Burdaheft, allerdings habe ich die Tüllschärpe weggelassen (kein passender Tüll vorhanden) und keine Strasssteine aufgeklebt (der Stoff war ja schon gemustert). Wirkt eigentlich edler als die Vorlage…

For the Barbie doll again. 🙂 Another remnant of my sofa cover makes a doll dress. Again from the same old Burda magazine. Though I did not make the tulle sash/bow (no matching tulle in stash) and did not glue rhinestones an (my fabric already had a pattern). Looks even more elegant than the model in the magazine…

BarbiekleidNatürlich gibt es nach Rosa auch noch ein Kleid in Pink. Auch wieder aus dem alten Burda Sonderheft. Da mein Stoff ja sehr stark ausfranst habe ich das Oberteil mit Futterstoff gedoppelt und an der vorderen Kante damit verstürzt. Damit es nicht aufklafft habe ich einen Haken und eine Öse als eigentlichen Verschluss eingenäht und dann ganz vorne noch einen Druckknopf aufgesetzt.

Of course Barbie also needs a dress in shocking pink. Again from that old Burda special edition from the 1990s. My fabric frays a lot, so I faced the front part of the bodice with a lining fabric and doubled the whole top with it. To keep it closed I used a hook and eye as the closure and a sew on snap  directly on the edge to keep it down there.

Barbiekleid im Entstehen
Beim Nähen hat sich in den letzten zwei Monaten tatsächlich nichts Großes getan. Kleinzeug jede Menge und irgendwann schaffe ich es auch mal, die Bilder davon zu machen und einzustellen… dann noch sehr viel (langweilige) Stopfwäsche…. so daß ich im Moment fast genau da bin, wo ich vor zwei Monaten auch war: Ein Barbiekleid. Aber nicht das gleiche und das hier ist auch fast fertig, dem fehlen vor allem die Knöpfe hinten.

As far is sewing is concerned indeed nothing big has happened within the last two months. I made several small items which I am sure I will manage to photograph and show here one day… a huge pile of repair work… but to sum it up I am nearly at the same point as two months ago: A dress for a Barbie doll. Not the same and this time it is nearly finished. Only the sew on snaps are missing.

gestrickter Schal mit SpitzenmusterMein Lace-Schal macht auch Fortschritte. Wie man sieht habe ich neue Roccailles bekommen und bin jetzt beim zweiten Teil kurz bevor der regelmäßige Rapport beginnt.

Now there is progress on my lace shawl. As you can see I got more beads and the second part is now just a few rows short before the main part with the regular repeats starts.

helle Socken mit ZopfmusterSocken bin ich um ein Paar weiter. Das Muster ist fast das gleiche wie bei den letzten Zopfsocken (mit kleinen Verbesserungen… einen Vorteil muß man ja davon haben, daß beim ersten Mal das Garn nicht gereicht hat), nur diesmal mit einem deutlich längeren Schaft. Trotz des Zopfmusters reicht diesmal die Wolle auch wie gewohnt. Wer auch immer sich das ausgedacht hatte… die Opal Sockenwolle die ich beim ersten Versuch verwendet hatte lief ganz sicher nicht 420m auf 100g… (Oder es waren keine 100g…)

I moved to the next pair of socks. The pattern is nearly the same as for the last ones (with minor modifications… at least one advantage from having to do it a second time because the yarn did not run long enough on my first version) and with a longer leg part. Even though I do the same cables the yarn is largely enough, as I  am used to. Who ever wrote it down… the Opal sock wool I had used for the last version did never ever run 420m on 100g… (Or it were not 100g….)

HäkeltopflappenDas Baumwollgarn will ich jetzt auch weiter aufbrauchen, also gab es seither noch etliche Topflappen. Wenn die Zählung stimmt müßte das jetzt Nummer sieben sein. Der ist fast fertig. Und ja, ich habe jetzt eigentlich genug Topflappen. Aber es ist noch Garn übrig, also gibt es mindestens noch einen.

I want to use the cotton yarn I had purchased to make pot holders. So there were several crocheted potholders over the last two months. If my counting is correct that should be number seven. Which is nearly finished. And yes, I have enough pot holders now. But there is still yarn, so after that there will be at least one more.

zwei BücherAnd die Lektüre vom Nachttisch habe ich auch gedacht. Den Roman habe ich mir im Winter gekauft, weil ich irgendwann letztes Jahr die Autorin im “Chez Gladines” getroffen habe und nach dem Gespräch neugierig auf das Buch war (das zu dem Zeitpunkt noch nicht erschienen war). Und jetzt kam ich endlich dazu, es zu lesen. (Wobei inzwischen auch die deutsche Übersetzung erschienen ist…) Der Roman bewegt sich zwischen Liebesgeschichte und Erlebnissen im späten Kommunismus in Bulgarien. Was zugegebenermaßen ein Thema ist, über das ich praktisch gar nichts weiß. Es liest sich so weit unterhaltsam, kann sich aber irgendwie nicht in letzter Konsequenz entscheiden, ob es die Liebesgeschichte oder die politische Geschichte in den Fokus rücken will. Das Sachbuch geht wieder ums Nähen und lag der Threads Archiv DVD kostenlos bei. Es richtet sich an Anfänger und hat einerseits einen lockeren Ton, ist aber andererseits sehr systematisch und gründlich (bis hin zur Einrichtung eines Nähplatzes) wie ich es noch selten gesehen habe. Sehr Empfehlenswert, wenn man gut genug Englisch kann.

Not to forget the books from my night stand. The French novel I purchased because I met the author last year at “Chez Gladines” in Paris and while chatting she mentioned the book (which was not printed yet) and made me curious enough to buy it when It finally came out. Then it took me a while to find the time to read it. (Meanwhile the German translation was available also.) It’s part love story and partly tells a bit about politics at the area of the late communism in Bulgaria (which is something I hardly know anything about). It ready nicely but it seems as if the author could finally not decide if she wanted the focus on the private love story or the political story. My non-fiction book is from Threads and I got it for free with my Threads archive DVD. It’s written for beginners who want to sew and is written in a not complicated language but the same time very structured. Seldom seen handled that topic so well. So highly recommended for anyone who wants to start sewing.

Pink, what else?

Barbie in rosaEndlich habe ich mal ein Outfit für Barbie hinbekommen, das auch die richtige Farbe hat… denn was außer rosa könnte Barbie denn tragen? (Und dank der Töchter meiner Freundin ist es auch eine echte Barbie, die ist tatsächlich etwas breiter als das China-Imitat, so daß die Kleidung besser passt.)

Finally I managed to create an outfit for the Barbie doll that has “barbie-color”… pink. What else should Barbie wear? (And thanks to the daughters of my friend I now have an orignal Barbie who indeed is a little less thin than my China fake doll. So the clothes fit better.)

Barbie in rosa, SeitenansichtDer Stoff ist der Unterlegstoff von meiner Biker-Style Jacke, ein einfacher Baumwollstoff. Damit er nicht ganz so langweilig ist, habe ich den Überwurf an der Schulter und die Armstulpen mit einem Farbeverlaufsstickgarn von Maison Sajou bestickt.

The fabric is a very simple, plain cotton I used as an underlining for my biker-style vest. To give it a little more interest I made an embroidery with a variegated yarn by Maison Sajou on the “sleeves” and the shoulder piece.

Die Anleitung stammt aus dem alten Barbie Sonderheft aus den 1990er Jahren, wobei das Kleid als “one shoulder dress” im Moment modisch sogar wieder ganz oben ist. Damit der Faltenwurf so dramatisch fällt, kam da noch ein Draht rein.

The pattern is again from the old Burda special issue “Barbie” from the 1990s. Though as a one shoulder dress the outfit is very fashionable right now. To keep the shoulder piece up, there is some wire added.

Barbie Kleid als Bausatz
Nähtechnisch habe ich die Jacke endlich fertig (Photo kommt irgendwann noch) und gebe mich dem Kleinkramnähen hin. Also wenig spannend, ein zugeschnittenes Barbiekleid.

Sewingwise I finally finished my jacket (pics still to come) so I am doing some smaller projects now. So there is a cut dress for a Barbie doll, not very thrilling.

PerlenMein Lace-Schal ist gut vorangekommen. Die erste Hälfte ist fertig, die zweite habe ich angefangen… und wurde von einem Mangel an Rocailles ausgebremst. Seit Februar war ich nicht mehr in Paris, hoffe aber, daß ich bei meinem nächsten Besuch mehr Glück habe.

Nice progress for my Lace Shawl. First half finished, second one started… and now out of seed beads. Haven’t been to Paris since February. I hope to be more lucky in the shop on my next trip.

SockenMit den Socken ging es überraschend gut vorwärts, obwohl die auf meiner Prioritätenliste sehr weit unten stehen. Der Schaft ist deswegen so kurz, weil aus unerfindlichen Gründen das Garn nicht weiter reichte…

Socks made more progress than expected, since they are really on the bottom of my priority list. The leg part is shorter than I had wanted it to be, because the yarn won’t last for more…

TopflappenDa mein Lace-Projekt zwangsweise auf Eis liegt, mache ich mich dran, mein Baumwollgar aufzuarbeiten und häkle Topflappen. Das ist schon Nummer vier, der gerade in Arbeit ist…

Since I can’t continue my lace shawl I started to work on the cotton yarn. Aim is to use all I’ve purchased last year for potholders. That is number four I am working on right now.

BücherUnd weil ich diesen Monat gerade wieder dran denke: Die Lektüre vom Nachttisch. Normalerweise habe ich ja ein Sachbuch und einmal Belletristik. Diesmal ist das nicht so klar. Das alte Photobuch (mal wieder technische Grundlagen auffrischen, die in den alten Büchern noch erklärt werden, weil die Kameras noch nicht alles automatisch machten) ist stellenweise im Erzählton geschrieben. Und Swetlana Alexeijewitsch schreibt keine Fiktion, auch wenn sie den Nobelpreis für Literatur bekommen hat. Dennoch ein sehr spannendes Buch.

And since I remembered when taking the pics this month: The books from my night table. Normally I have one non fiction and one fiction. But this time it is not so clear which is which… the old book about photography (refreshing some very basic knowledge which is explained in the old books, because the cameras did not do everything by themselves) is partially written in a tone like fiction would be. And Swetlana Alexeijewitsch does not write fiction, even though she got the Nobel Price for literature. But an extremely interesting book.

Ankleidepuppe im blauen Ensemble

Natürlich gab es aus den Resten des Rockes auch noch was für die Ankleidepuppe. Aus dem Rockstoff eine Blousonjacke, aus der Seide von den Versäuberungsstreifen wurde der Ballonrock und dessen Futter ist aus dem Futterstoff. Da das gelbe Stickgarn noch griffbereit lag, habe ich noch ein paar Zierstiche an Jacke und Rock dazugefügt.

The leftovers from the skirt also made a doll outfit. The skirt fabric became a blouson, the silk from the bias binding a skirt and the lining… lining again. Since the yellow embroidery thread was still at hand I added some stitches to jacket and skirt.

Die Anleitung ist wieder aus dem alten Burda Barbieheft und auch hier zeigt sich die Tendenz, daß zumindest die Jacke an den Schultern recht groß ist, (Wobei der Blouson im Heft am Ende auch mit einem Gürtel gerafft wird…) An der Taille hingegen ist die Jacke eher eng. Künftig etwas weniger Nahtzugabe anschneiden oder in eine “echte” Barbie investieren um zu sehen, ob es an der Billigpuppe liegt? (Es gibt ja eine für knapp 7 EUR, die aber wiederum wohl nur im Versand mit entsprechender Versandgebühr. Was dann nur für die Anprobe auch wieder etwas viel ist.)

The pattern is again from my old Burda Barbie issue and again the finised item is a little large on the shoulders. (Okay, the jacket on the original photo is also held together with a belt.) On the other hand at the waist it fits more snug. Shall I try to cut smaller seam allowances or will I have to invest in an original Barbie doll to see if the problem is the cheap fake doll? (There seems to be a “real” one for a little less than 7 EUR, but it also looks as if this one was sold exclusively by the internet, so there would be shipping costs. So all in all it would be a bit exagerated just for trying on.)

First doll stuff 2015

Barbiekleid Den Applikationsfuß von Weihnachten habe ich dann im Januar auch gleich ausprobiert. Man kann damit nämlich auch ganz toll dickes Strickgarn (von dem Strickkleid) aufnähen. (Wobei ich bei dem Chiffonumhang die Schnitteile auf Soluvlies gezeichnet habe, dann den Chiffon drauf gesteckt, das ganze in einen Stickrahmen gespannt und dann in einem Zug die Form nachgenäht und das Strickgarn aufgenäht. Danach ausschneiden und dasSoluvlies auwaschen. Schwierig ist dabei besonders, daß man mehrfach umspannen muß, ohne die Nadel aus dem Stoff zu nehmen…)

The Appliquee Foot I got for Christmas was used in January right away. Because it is a very good tool to sew thick knitting yarn (from the knitted dress) onto fabric. (So make the chiffon overlay I drew the pattern pieces on Soluvlies, pinned the chiffon over it, hooped it all and then sewed the yarn on the chiffon in the shape of the pattern pieces. Cutting was afterwards and then washing out the soluvlies, of course. Most complicated step is that you have to rehoop severals times without cuttng threads or pulling the needle out…)

Was mir an dem Kleid auch wieder auffällt ist, daß es mehr oder weniger stark von der Schulter der Puppe rutscht. (Dank sehr engen Jerseyärmeln “klemmt” es dann für eine Puppe genug.) Entweder sind die Puppenschultern seit Drucklegung meines Schnittheftes in den 1990ern schmaler geworden oder meine lumpige China-Imitatpuppe hat schmalere Schultern als das Original. Oder ich nähe nicht genau genug… Das werde ich mal im Auge behalten.

What I seen on this dress again is, that it drops more or less from the shoulders of the doll. (Thanks to very tight jersey knit sleeves it keeps up enough vor a doll.) Either the shoulders of the dolls got narrower since my patterns were made (They come from a mag that was sold in the 1990s) or my super cheap China fake doll has narrower shoulders than the original Barbie. Or my sewing is not precise enough for such small items… I’ll keep an eye on that.

Auch ganz schön aufwändig…

Quite some work again….

Barbie Kleid Auch dieses Kleid für Barbie nach dem Burda-Schnitt war wieder ganz schön aufwändig. Und Abnäher nähen im Kleinformat ist auch nicht einfach. Den Charme entfaltet es beinahe am Besten von hinten.

This dress for Barbie after the Burda pattern was quite some work again. And sewing mini darts isn’t that easy either. I think it looks nearly best from the rear view. 

Der Stoff ist der weiße Seidencrêpe von dem Unterkleid, als Borte hätte man eigentlich goldenes Paillettenband nehmen, aber da ich noch eine farblich passende Borte von Kafka bei der Hand hatte, wurde es ein ganz anderer Look. Statt Klettband (ich hatte kein weißes da und steif ist es überdies) habe ich drei kleine Druckknöpfe von Koh-i-Noor aufgenäht.

barbie1405 Fabric is the white silk crêpe from my silk slip. Instead of using golden braid as the instructions tell I took a woven band from Kafka. So the look is quite different. For the closure I did not use velcro (I didn’t have white one also it is quite stiff) I’ve sewn tiny snaps from Koh-i-Noor.

Was die Anleitung betrifft muß ich hier feststellen, daß sie einen an den kritischen Stellen etwas alleine läßt. Der Übergang von Borte zur Rückendrapierung ist unklar und besonders, wie und wo man die Borte vorne annähen soll. Denn das Band ist gerade und legt sich nicht gerade gut um Kurven.

Regarding the instructions I have to say that they leave out the really complicated things. Especially how the back draping and the trim will come together and where exactely the trim is supposed to be sewn. Because it is a woven trim and will not go around the curves well.

Miniature Evening Dress

Seit Urzeiten besitze ich ein Burda-Sonderheft “Barbie”. (Müßte so aus den 1990ern sein.) Nur immer wenn Freunde Mädchen im passenden Alter hatten, kam ich nie dazu, was draus zu nähen. Daher bin ich diesmal schlauer. Meine kleine Nichte ist dieses Jahr erst geboren, aber wenn ich ab jetzt immer mal ein Modell nähe, dann habe ich hoffentlich genug fertig, wenn sie alt genug dafür ist…

Since olden times I own a Burda Secial issue “Barbie”. (Should be from the 1990s.) Only I nver used it, because when friends had girls at the appropriate age I did not have the time to sew something for them. So this time I am smarter. My niece was born this year and when I am starting now, sewing a dress now and then, I should have something to give, when she is old enough.

Ankleidepuppe im Cocktail-KleidHier also das erste Modell (Modell 23 im Heft) aus brauner Baumwolle mit pinkfarbenem Stickgarn und pinkfarbenen Roccailles. Zu dem Minikleid gibt es noch Armstulpen.

So here is the first model from my collection (it’s no. 23 in the mag) made of brown cotton with pink embroiudery yarn and pink beads. The minidress comes with extra sleeves.

Das Nähen von diesen Kleinteilen war etwas ungewohnt, aber es ging. Und ich habe mal wieder festgestellt, daß der Aufwand für ein Teil weniger mit der Endgröße, sondern mit der Anzahl der Teile zu tun hat. Was hier beträchtlich ist, denn Rock und Ärmel haben je drei Schichten Rüschen. Als Verschluss gibt es drei 5mm Druckknöpfe von Koh-i-noor. die sind nämlich noch mal kleiner als die 6mm von Prym, was hier ein echter Vorteil ist.

Sewing those tiny parts was a bit unfamiliar for me, but it was okay. And I’ve learned again that the amount of time a dress takes is not so much related with the size of the finished dress, but with the number of parts. Since the  ruched sleeves and the skirt have three layers each, that were quite a lot. For the closure I used my tiny 5mm Koh-i-noor snaps. They are smaller than the 6mm by Prym which on that scale does make a difference.

Die Puppe ist übrigens keine echte Barbie, das ist das billigste was der Markt her gibt… “Bella” von Tedi für 3 EUR. Zum Photographieren taugt sie, einem Kind würde ich sie eher nicht geben. Außerdem passen die Plastikteile so schlecht aneinander, daß an der Schulter ein etwa 3mm breiter Spalt offen steht. Aber wie gesagt… als Photomodell muß sie es tun.

The doll is far from beeing a real Barbie, that is the cheapest substitue I could finde… “Bella” from Tedi for 3 EUR. Okay for taking pictures, but I would not give it to a child, I guess. And the plastic parts fit so badly, that she has a 3mm wide opening at one of the shoulders. But, well… for taking picures she’ll have to do.

Fresh from the needles: Oktober 2014

Was ich euch diesen Monat erspare ist der Blick auf den Sweat Rock und die BH Bügel, da hat sich nämlich nichts getan.

What I will save you this months are the pics of the sweat skirt and the bra wires, there nothing happened.

SpitzeAuch meine Bluse hängt noch genauso auf der Puppe wie vor dem Urlaub. Allerdings habe ich die abgenähten Ecken in der Spitze aufgetrennt und gebügelt. Dafür, daß meine Mutter diese Spitze vor wenigstens 20 Jahren (oder noch länger) mit Simplicol gefärbt und meine Oma sie auf die Kissen genäht hat, hat sich das doch alles gut gehalten?

My wrap blouse hasn’t changed either. But I’ve unpicked the stitches that formed the edge in the lace and ironed everything. My mother had dyed that lace at least 20 years ago and my grandmother had sewn it then on cusions. And for that it really looks good, doesn’t it?

Abendkleid für BarbieNähtechnisch arbeite ich gerade wieder an einem Abendkleid. Allerdigns in einem anderen Maßstab… 😉 Ich bin wieder Tante geworden und nachdem ich es in den letzten gut 20 Jahren, seit ich das Schnittheft besitze genau einmal geschafft habe, ein kleines Mädchen mit einem Barbiekleid zu beschenken… fange ich einfach jetzt gleich an. Und bis die Kleine im Barbiealter ist, kann ich dann vielleicht eine kleine Garderobe verschenken. (Da ich selber aber keine Puppe mehr habe, kann ich die Sachen im Moment nur liegend präsentieren.)

Sewingwise I am working on an evening dress. Though at a very different scale… 😉 I have a brand new niece now and I am owning a mag with Barbie sewing patterns for more than 20 years. And so far I managed to sew exactly one outfit before the girl it was supposed to be for outgrew the Barbie time I’ll start now right away. If I am doing one now and then I hope to have a few ready to give once she’s grown into Barbie-age. (I don’t have a doll myself any longer, so I can show it only laying on a piece of paper.)

Lace SchalVor meinem Urlaub hatte ich dann noch eine Lace Stola angefangen. Das Garn ist das handgesponnene von Angelika, die Anleitung ist “Stola Madli”von Nancy Bush, die ich aus der einzigen (deutschen) Ausgabe von “The Knitter” die ich besitze habe. (Wenn ich noch Platz hätte, würde ich das wahrscheinlich öfter kaufen.) Hier habe ich inzwischen beide Spitzenenden und etwas mehr als fünf Rapporte des Mittelteils. Das Muster ist von estnischer Spitze inspiriert und ganz anders als die Muster aus Victorian Lace Today, die ich in letzter Zeit viel gestrickt habe.

Right before going on vaccation I had started a new lace shawl. The yarn is this hand spun by  Angelika, the pattern is “Madli” by Nancy Bush. Which I have in the only (German) issue of “The Knitter” I own. (If I had any room left I’d buy that more often.) I’ve done both endings and a bit more than 5 repeats of the main body. The pattern is Estonian Lace and quite different from the New Victorian Lace pattern I’ve been knitting a lot over the recent years.

HäkelhexagonsOffiziell beendet habe ich meine Häkel-Hexagons. Das sind jetzt 428, das wird reichen. Ich habe sie auch schon mal grob in hell, dunkel und mittel aufgeteilt. Jetzt muß ich mir dann mal ernsthaft Gedanken machen, wie ich sie zusammensetzen werde… Völlig zufällig oder doch mit System?

Officially finished are my crochted Granny hexagons. I have 428 now and that will be enough. I’ve already separted them in “light”, “dark” and “middle”. Now I have to take a decision how I will assemble them… Randomly or with a kind of a pattern?
