Sommerlicher Nadelblick: Juni 2018

Fresh from the needles June 2018

Still not too much time for sewing, but underwear are quick projects, so I am about to sew my second bra from the pale pink fabric. Since at the moment the weather is longer hot than for three days in a row (followed by something like two weeks or a year of cold weather…) it became quite evident that the number of bras in lighter hues (that are not about to fall apart) is quite limited at the moment. So I will use the fabric to make some more as long as I have enough material. Since I did cut a part of the lace wrongly for the cami I don’t have much lace left, so that is only enough for a small accent of lace.

My “Morning Dove Shawlette” is nearly finished but at the same time as far away from finished as any project could be. How comes? Well… the shawlette is cute, but since I took smaller needles (where the stitches looked best to me) it is not only very small… even worse it used only a bit more than half of the yarn. My intention was to make the best use possible from the lovely “Maravillosa” by Dibadu Funnies. So… I am going to frog it completely and knit something different from the yarn. (Also the border does not completely convince me… but that is probably a solvable problem.)

The mittens from April have been finished and from the remnants of the remnant (“Merino Kid” by Shibui Knits) I am knitting I am knitting very small lace gauntlets. Combining the yarn with another remnant (“Del Cerro” by Aslan Trends). The pattern is Green Gauntlets by Mags Williamson. Only much shorter, due to yarn shortage.

Also I have socks on my needles. Yet another try to make self stripeying yarn into something interesting. The pattern are the Tipsy Toe Socks by Sybil R. The yarn is “Cotton Kolibri Color” by Schachenmayr Regia. What you buy when the price is good… and for the feet all colors are bascially okay.

And that’s it. No book at the moment. I’ve profited from my last trip to Paris to finish the book from april and another one. When I came home everything was swamped by magazines I’ve subscribed to. Now I am busy reading those…

Knackig in Strick

Tight knitting

The amount of yarn a pattern calls for is somehow never right for me. So after knitting these mittens I still had a lot of yarn (“Merino Kid” by Shibui Knits) left. I don’t want to have a stash of remnants, so was searching for a pattern for the rest and ravelry showed my the Barbie dress by Linda Mary.

It’s nice that ravelry shows the weight of the yarn, but the information seems to be a bit off sometimes. What I saw on the pattern pics looked finer than my yarn, but who knows? I used very fine needles to get the gauge. That was possible, only the result was so tight it was not even possible to pull it over the body of a doll.

So frogging and starting new with 2.25mm needles… and it worked. I had to add some rows to get the right length, which is pretty normal for me. I never get the right row count for any gauge. To pimp the very simple dress a bit I’ve added a big button with golden glitter on the front.

Now I still have quite a lot of yarn left. That part of the plan did not work out…

Meine ersten Fausthandschuhe

My first mittens

Sometimes you realize that there is something very ordinary you have not done yet. In my case it were mittens. I’ve done cloves and countless types of handcuffs and other fingerless stuff… but never ordinary mittens. Since we are knitting mittens, gloves and handcuffs for the Christmas charity for the homeless this was a good moment to do so for the first time.

I had shown the beginnings of the project here, so only to wrap it up: Pattern was Bias Cable Mittens by Jennifer Reinhart which I’d found on ravelry. Yarn was “Merino Kid” by Shibui Knits. The charts were a bit confusing first, because the differed from everything I had seen before, but with a bit of frogging I succeeded at last. And one of the mittens is a bit narrower than the other. Because I only realized when knitting the second mitten, that I should have added one more stitch in the set up row. Well….

There is way more yarn left than I had expected. The mittens will now be stored in a box until Christmas. A nice pattern an not boring to knit.
