Socks for the homeless 2017/II

Ringelsocken aus WollrestenAuch das zweite Paar Socken für die Spendenaktion ist fertig. Wild geringelt mit einer Tendenz ins beige-braune.

The second pair of socks for your charitiy is finished. Wild stripes with a certain tendency for beige and brown.

Sieben verschiedene Reste habe ich untergebracht, sechs davon sind aufgebraucht. Da ich noch so viele Sockengarne mit Baumwollanteil hatte, habe ich die mit verstrickt. Und versucht, sie mehr in den Schaft zu verlegen, damit der Fußteil wärmer bleibt.

I used seven different remnants and six of them are now used up. Since I had a lot of sock yarn with cotton I used that, too. And tried to use that more for the leg part, so the foot par of the sock will keep warmer.

Jetzt kommt erst mal wieder ein Paar Socken für mich…

Next one will be a pair of socks for me…

Socks for Homeless VI

geringelte RestesockeUnd das ist das letzte Paar von meinen Socken für die Weihnachtsaktion der Kölner Diakonie. Ich habe die gleiche Ringeltechnik verwendet wie bei Paar Nummer 5, habe aber diesmal viele kleine Reste verwendet und dadurch auch gut aufgebraucht. Allerdings habe ich zum Abwiegen der halben Knäuel diesmal die Küchenwaage statt der Briefwaage benutzt und die deutlichen Abweichungen bei den Streifen zeigen, daß die zwar grammgenau anzeigt, aber offensichtlich deutlich weniger genau wiegt. (Was mich allerdings nicht völlig überrascht…)

This is the last pair of socks I made for the Christmas Campaign of the Diakonie Cologne. I’ve used the same technique for fine stripes as in pair number 5, but this time I’ve used quite a lot of smaller amounts. (And could use up most of them.) But for distributing the yarn in equal amounts I’ve not used the letter scale, but the kitchen scale. And the visible differences tell me, that the kitchen scale may appear to be precise down to one gram but evidently isn’t. (Though I was not completely surprised…)

Autumn Monster

HäkelmonsterMeine Resteverwertung geht weiter und diesmal gab es ein süßes Monsterchen.

My “remnants busting” goes on and this time the result is a cute little monster.

Die Garnreste waren Noro Kureyon sock, zwei verschiedene Farbstellungen, aber das ist da ja ziemlich egal. Die Anleitung habe ich mal wieder auf Ravelry gefunden,es ist das Valentine Monster von Emma Varnam. Die Klebeaugen hatte ich noch und auch den Herzknopf.

The yarn was Noro Kureyon sock, two different colors, but that doesn’t matter. Pattern is from Ravelry, Valentine Monster by Emma Varnam. The sticky eyes I already had, same for the heart button.

Das Häkeln war ziemlich mühsam und pannenbehaftet. Zum einen ist das häkeln mit dem 2,5mm Häckchen relativ mühsam, zum anderen funktionierte erst mal gar nichts. Die Arme waren eigentlich zu locker, um sie vernünftig stopfen zu können, der Boden wollte nicht flach werden und überhaupt bekam ich eine lange und dünnen Röhre und das sah so gar nicht wie auf dem Bild aus… Bis mir allmählich dämmerte, daß es im Englischen ja unterschiedliche Terminologie beim Häkeln gibt. Je nach Land bedeutet “double crochet” entweder Stäbchen (so waren meine Anleitungen bisher) oder… feste Masche. Und das war es diesmal. Und dann funktioniert es auch. 🙂

Crocheting was a bit tricky. For once because crocheting the yarn with the small 2.5mm hook was a bit… small. And then nothing worked out. The material was not dense enough to be stuffed well, the bottom of the monster was not willing to lay flat at all, I was producing a very long and thin tube and nothing did look like the pictures… well… then I remembered that BE and AE do not have the same crocheting terminology…. “Double crochet” here means that what I know as “single crochet”. And then it did work out. 🙂

Flowers again

HäkelblümchenUnd auch für diese Wollreste hat sich die Scrap Flower Daisy von Kristine Mullen bewährt. 🙂 (Falls ihr allmählich keine Wolle mehr sehen könnt… Sorry, da kommt noch das eine oder andere, aber ich bemühe mich auch um neue Nähbeiträge…)

The last yards of this yarn also were transformed into Scrap Flower Daisy, a really useful pattern by Kristine Mullen. 🙂 (If you can’t see yarn any longer… I am sorry, there is some more to come. But I’ll try to write about sewing related topics again…)

Cute, but to small

MützeNach meiner Mütze war immer noch Garn übrig und dann fand ich auf Ravelry dieses schöne Muster, den Feather and Fan Hat von Betty Balcomb auf ravelry. Leider für dickeres Garn…

After my beanie there was still a lot of yarn left and when browsing ravelry I found that cute pattern:Feather and Fan Hat by Betty Balcomb But for much thicker yarn than mine…

Ich habe zwar versucht, das anzupassen und da die Mütze sehr dehnbar ist würde sie in der Weite sogar passen, aber in der Höhe gar nicht.

Tja… braucht jemand eine Kindermütze? 😉

I tried to adapt the pattern to my yarn and since the pattern has a lot of give it would my head circumference, but it is not long enough, sitting only on the top of my head.

Well… anyone who needs a child hat? 😉

(Nearly) to the last meter

Zurück zu meinen Wollresten. Nach dem Granny Motiv war immer noch etwas Garn da. Zuviel zum Wegwerfen.

Back to my wool scraps. After crocheting the granny motif there was still yarn left. Too much to throw away.

Auch dafür hat Ravelry die Antwort: Die Scrap Flower Daisy von Kristine Mullen. Eine tolle Anleitung für letzte Reste.

Blüten in BlauIch habe zwar keine Ahnung, was man mit so Häkelblüten macht, aber das Garn war danach weg. Zumindest so weit, daß ich den Rest dann endlich guten Gewissens wegwerfen konnte. 🙂

I do not really know what to do with the crocheted flowers, but the yarn is used up. At least to an extend that I could manage to throw away the rest. 🙂

Ribs-or-not socks

Auf den ersten Blick geringelt.

Auf den zweiten… haben sie irgendwie eine Längsstruktur. Rippen? Aber wie… ohne linke Maschen?

Striped again.

On the second look… they have a kind of lengthwise structure, don’t they? Are there ribs? Without purling?

Einige der rechten Maschen sind verschränkt gestrickt, auch das gibt feine Längsstreifen.

Das war es mit den Socken… in nächster Zeit stehen dann Lace-Schals auf dem Programm, aber das war ja schon zu sehen.

Some stitches wer knitted through the backloop, the result are very finde longtitudinal stripes.

Now that is all about socks for the next years I guess. Next will be Lace-shawls, but that you could already see.

Weiter geht es mit den Restesocken…

Rippen ermöglichen ja, daß die Socke sich dem Fuß gut anpasst. Dafür ist es flach bequemer.

Also fangen die Rippen hier erst irgendwo auf dem Fuß an und werden immer mehr, bis die Socke rundherum gerippt ist.

(Ganz einfach und es verhindert zu viel Langeweile beim Stricken…)

More socks…

The nice thing about ribbing on socks is, that the sock can adapt better to the shape of the foot. On the other hand plain is mor comfortable to the skin.

So here the ribs start somewhere on the middle of the foot and become more until they run all around.

(Easy, but prevents too much boredom while knitting… )

Cross the stripe-Socken

RestesockenUnd noch ein Sockenpaar aus der Resteverwertung. Diesmal waren es zwei größere Reste, einmal von den Space Invader Socken, die mein jüngster Bruder letztes Jahr zu Weihnachten bekommen hat und einmal die Regia Stretch von diesem luftigen Modell.

Und da mir nur Ringel natürlich zu langweilig waren, mußte auch noch etwas Struktur durch gekreuzte Maschen rein. Für Socken ist das Muster so nicht ganz optimal, wel es recht stabil und weniger dehnbar ist, aber für andere Zwecke werde ich es mir merken. Nämlich wenn ich mal wieder was suche, was formstabil bleiben soll…

(und jetzt zurück an die Lace-Borte. SissiL, vielen Dank für den Tip mit  den verkürzten Reihen. Ich habe zwar noch keine Vorstellung wie das mit dem Muster des Randes hinkommt, aber wenn ich mal etwas mehr Erfahrung mit Lace habe, dann wird das sicher auch noch werden. Ich merke es mir auf alle Fälle!)

Again “use up your sock yarn” socks from the last weeks. I only needed two different yarns because what I had left was quite a lot. The cream yarn is from the Space Invader Socks my youngest brother got for Christmas last year, the blue is Regia Stretch from that airy pair.

And as plain stripes were to boring for me I added a bit of structure with crossed stitches. I have to admit that the pattern is not the best you can use for socks, because it takes out a lot of the stretch, but I will keep it in mind for other purposes. When I will be looking for something that keeps its form well.
