Barbie in short

Barbie im gemusterten MinikleidDa die erste Runde verschenkt ist, geht es weiter… ich habe jetzt alle Schnitte aus dem Burdaheft ausprobiert, die elastischen/Jersey Stoff verlangen. Daher werde ich diesen Schnitt für all weiterhin noch anfallenden Jerseys nehmen, denn das ist der einfachste. Der aber noch kompliziert genug ist, denn Burda sieht da natürlich Abnäher und so was vor… die obere Kante ist eigentlich zu weit, daher habe ich einen Faden eingezogen. Weil ich immer noch vergessen habe, Hutgummi nachzukaufen.

Since the first batch has been gifted I’ll have to continue. Meanwhile I’ve used all the patterns from the burda Barbie issue that call for knits. So whatever knit will be worked into a Barbie dress in the future, it will be this pattern. That’s the easiest one. And that is complicated enough, having darts. The neckline is too wide, so I pulled it together with a thicker thread hold double. Still having forgotten to buy a new elastic thread.

Tiny but up to date: October 2017

Da ich im nach wie vor wenig Zeit habe (und außerdem die letzten zwei Monate mehr oder weniger aus dem Koffer gelebt habe…) ist der Überblick diesmal extrem übersichtlich.

Since I am still short of time (and used my suitcase so often that it started feeling like a kind of a permanent body attachment) the overview is extremely small.

Stricksocken in grünStrickprojekt sind mein inzwischen sechstes Paar Obdachlosensocken. Eigentlich sollte es langweilig glatt rechts werden, aber auf der Ferse wurde es dann doch ein Streifen Perlmuster. Garn ist Regia “Natural look” aus einem Tausch. Auf dem Bild sah es naturweiß aus, als es ankam, war es grün. Nicht meine Farbe, also werden es Spendensocken.

My knitting project are my sixth pair of socks for the homeless. I intended plain vanilla stockinette, but then on the heel I made a strip of seed stitch. Yarn is “Natural look” by Regia from a swap. It had looked like a natural off white on the pic but when it arrived it was green. Not my color, so it will become socks for charity.

zugeschnittenes Kleid für BarbieNähtechnisch schon wieder oder immer noch im Miniaturformat… Ein schlichtes Kleid für Barbie, diesmal aus den Seitenteilen des Rocks den ich im August gezeigt hatte. Immerhin zugeschnitten.

Sewingwise I am still or again doing small… a simple barbie dress, this time the fabric is from the side panels of the skirt I had shown in August. At least cutting is done.

Und auf dem Nachttisch liegt zur Zeit kein Nähbuch, ich bin tatsächlich mal mit allen Anschaffungen durch. Stattdessen leichte Lektüre. Glaube ich zumindest, denn ich bin ungefähr bei Seite 23. Und es ist sicher sechs Wochen her, daß ich das letzte Mal drin gelesen habe. Irgendwie werde ich mit Zeitschriften überschwemmt, so daß die Bücher nur wenig Chance haben.

The book from my night stand. Probably not interesting to anyone, because I do not think there are translations. But I have no unread craft books at the moment. Which does not help me reading other books faster. Because here I am about page 23 and the last time I picked it up was probably six weeks ago. I somehow get swamped with magazines that books don’t get much of a chance these days.

Purple and silver…

langes Kleid für Barbiepuppe in lila und silber… so diesmal für die Barbie. Die vordere Naht war im Schnitt nicht vorgesehen, aber sonst hätte der Stoffrest nicht gereicht.

… for the Barbie doll this time. The front seam was not in the pattern, but I did not have enough fabric to cut it without.

Der Schnitt ist wieder aus dem alten Burda Sonderheft, allerdings hatte ich für die Ärmel oben keinen Hutgummi mehr und habe einfach einen stabilen Faden (Alterfil S35) eingezogen. Da die Puppe sich ja nicht bewegt, reicht das. Den Ärmel habe ich danach von Hand eingesetzt, denn es gibt keine Seitennaht, man mußte ihn rund einsetzen. Und das war mir mit der Maschine (falls es überhaupt gehen sollte) mit dem Chiffon doch zu frickelig. Statt erst zu heften, habe ich gleich von Hand genäht.

The pattern is again from the old Burda special issue. The top of the sleeves is supposed to be gathered with an elastic thread, but I did not have any left, so I just used strong thread (Alterfil S35) which is fine. A doll does not really move. There is no side seam on the top, so I’ve sewn in the sleeves by hand. I did not even attempt to do it with the machine. Using the chiffon for the sleeves hand basting would have been a must (and not sure if it was possible then), so making a few hand stitches was the better and faster solution. IMHO.

Die erste Ladung wird übrigens diesen Monat ausgeliefert, meine Nichte hat ihre erste Barbie bekommen, zu ihrem Geburtstag wird die dann ordentlich eingekleidet.

The first batch will be delivered this month. My niece got her first Barbie, so she’ll get the first amount of a wardrobe for her birthday.

Fresh from the needles August 2017

Und schon wieder habe ich kein Nähprojekt, denn ich habe in den letzten zwei Monaten offensichtlich zwei Nähprojekte fertig genäht. Das letzte allerdings unter Druck, da war eine Feier…

And again I have no unfinished sewing project, because evidently in the last two months I finished two sewing projects. The last one under a certain pressure, there was a birthday…

weißer rock mit goldenen Blumen, Bild FischerDeswegen gibt es ausnahmsweise mal ein Bild von einem fertigen Projekt. Den Stoff mit den Goldblüten hatte ich von Malhia Kent mitgenommen. Ja, im Juli erst. 😮 Da er nicht breit genug war, habe ich an der Seite Einsätze aus einem Feinstrick gemacht. So habe ich einen schicken Rock für die letzte und die nächsten Familienfeiern und bequem ist er auch. Mit Gummizug.

So this time a pic of a finished project. The fabric with the golden flowers I picked from the sales at Malhia Kent. Yes, that was July this year. 😮 Since it was not large enough I made insents from a knit fabric. Now I have a chique skirt for the last and the next family events. Which is comfortable, no zip, just elastic at the waist.

SockenBei den Socken bin ich auch ein Paar weiter. Wieder für die Weihnachtsaktion für Obdachlose in Köln. Eine langweilige Standardsocke in selbstmusterndem Garn. Crelando “Anika” von Lidl.

Socks are on my needles an I have started the next pair. Again for the Christmas party for the homeless in Cologne. Boring standard sock in selfstripeing yarn, Crelando “Anika”, purchased at Lidl.

Stricktuch in blauMein Lacetuch aus dem Jakob Schaf wurde kurz nach dem Urlaub fertig, im Urlaub habe ich aber schon das spannende Lacetuch In the Pink angefangen. Man strickt Mittelteil und Seitenteile getrennt, dann erst wird zusammengefügt. Man sieht, so weit bin ich schon gekommen, daß es ein Teil ist.

My lace shawl from Jacob sheep was not finished before my holiday and meanwhile it is. While being on holiday I start the thrilling to knit In the Pink lace shawl. You knit middle part and two sides separately and then connect the pieces and go on. You see that I already connected the pieces.

Das Garn ist ein Farbverlaufsgarn, “Lace 4fädig” von 100 Farbenspiele. Für gefachtes Garn funktioniert das trotz lustiger Dinge wie links verschränkt zusammenstricken ganz gut.

The yarn changes the color from light blue to dark blue and is “Lace 4fädig” by 100 Farbespiele. It’s a yarn without twist, so it was not easy to knit stuff like “ptogtbl”, but all in all it works fine.

Bezug für Fahrradsattel gehäkeltDann habe ich gerade heute noch ein schnelles (hoffentlich) Projekt begonnen. Mein Fahrradsattel aus Leder färbt nämlich leider ab, daher häkle ich jetzt einen Bezug.

And then I started a new project today. Hopefully a quick one. My leather bike saddle leaves stains on the clothes, so I am making a cover in crochet.

Die Anleitung dafür habe ich im “1 Knäuel häkeln” Buch gefunden und als Baumwollgarn ein Knäuel “Cotton Club” von Cascade Yarns in einem zarten Grün. Das passt von der Garnstärke her gut. Allerdings kann es sein, daß ich am Ende alles wieder aufribbeln muß. Die Anleitung verbraucht doppelt so viel Garn, allerdings werden da noch viele, viele Fransen eingeknüpft, was ich ja nicht vor habe. Also mal sehen…

The instructions are from the book “1 Knäuel häkeln” and I used “Cotton Club” by Cascade Yarns in a light green. It has the right weight. But it might happen that I have to frog everything. The instructions call for about twice as much yarn than I have. But the instructions also make a zillion of fringes, what I do not plan to do. So we’ll see…

Piggy in Pink

genähtes Schweinchen in pink

Dieses Schweinchen hatte ich jetzt ewig in der Phototasche, auf den wirklich tollen Moment wartend. Der aber nicht kam, also einfach eine dokumentarischer Aufnahme. Die Reste meiner beiden letzten Shirts wurden zu einem Schweinchen nach einer Anleitung von Aranzi Aronzo. Für die Klauen durfte ein Rest Fleece herhalten, für die Augen Knöpfe und die Nasenlöcher wurden Pailletten. Was halt so da war. Laut Anleitung hätte es traurig gucken sollen, aber meines wollte lieber fröhlich sein.

This little piggy I had been dragging around for quite some time in my camera bag, waiting for the real cool moment. Which did not come, so I finally decided to snap some pictures now. The remnants from my last two tops became this piggy (with a top also), using instructions from the book by Aranzi Aronzo. For theclaws I used some fleece and for the noose sequins. Stuff that was at hand. The instructions were for a sad looking piggy, but mine wanted to smile.

Zugeschnitten hatte ich es übrigens hier im April schon mal gezeigt.

Those who remember… I had been showing it in a pinned state  here in april.

Fresh from the needles June 2017 (A Short Story.)

Auch wenn ich nicht dazu gekommen bin, Photos zu zeigen (oder auch nur welche zu machen), in den letzten zwei Monaten sind einige Projekte fertig geworden. So gibt es im Moment nur wenige laufende Projekte.

I didn’t have to the time to show pictures (or even taking some), but in the last months I could finish several projects. So I have only few running projects at the moment.

FlickwäscheWas das Nähen betrifft, ist große Langeweile angesagt… der Schlafanzug will geflickt werden. (Das ist dann aber auch das letzte Teil des Stapels.)

Sewingwise great boredom. A pyjama needs some meding. (But that is the last piece for now.)

braune SockeDie Obdachlosensocken vom April sind fertig, danach habe ich ein paar niedliche Socken für mich gestrickt. Jetzt sind wieder Herrensocken für unsere Socken für Obdachlose Aktion in Arbeit. Hier habe ich ein braunes Farberlaufsgarn “Aktiv” von Super Garne in Arbeit.

The socks for homeless from April have been finfished and I made a pair of cute summer socks for myself. Now the next pair of men’s socks for our socks for the homeless campaign are on my needles. I am using a variegated sock yarn called “Aktiv” by Super Garne in brown.

grauer Lace SchalMein Lace Schal hat auch gute Fortschritte gemacht. Ich bin mit dem langen Mittelteil fertig und habe mit dem “Endteil” angefangen. Ich will versuchen, vor dem Urlaub damit fertig zu werden, damit ich dann ein neues Projekt mitnehmen kann. Mal sehen, ob das klappt…

Nice progress also with my lace shawl. I finished the long and boring middle part and started the “finishing” stretch. I’ll try to finish it before my holiday, so I can take a fresh project then. Let’s see if that works…

zwei BücherWas auch nicht wirklich vorwärts geht ist meine Nachtlektüre… Zeitschriften ja, bei Büchern reicht die Zeit nur selten. Was schade ist.  Vielleicht finde ich da im Urlaub auch etwas Zeit.

Not much progress readingwise… journals yes, but time for books is quite rare. Which is quite a pity. Maybe here also I’ll have more time in my holidays.

Peplum and Roses

Barbie im Hosenanzug in pinlDas rosa Shirt hatte einen Rest und so darf sich Barbie natürlich auch über einen Rest freuen. Der Anzug ist in dem Burda Heft ein silberner Disco Anzug.

Seitenansicht von Burda im pinkfartbenen HosenanzugThere was a remnant from the pink top, so there was something for Barbie also. The costume was a silver disco outfit in the Burda magazine.

Bei mir ist es jetzt pink, weil der Merinojersey eben pink war. Als Gürtel habe ich ein Stück breites Webband von Kafka genommen. Mit einem Rosenmuster.

Mine is very pink, because that is what the merino knit was. For the belt I used a pice of wide ribbon with roses from Kafka ribbons.

Nach Disko sieht es ja jetzt nicht mehr aus, wonach es aussieht weiß ich nicht genau… aber in Barbie Mode ist ja alles erlaubt. 😉

It doesn’t look like disco dancing that way. Though I am not sure what it looks like… but fashion for Barbie can just be any style. 😉

A “Frankentop”

Top in pink

Endlich habe ich auch mein Oberteil aus dem pinkfarbenen Merinojersey fertig. Geplant war dafür ja der Daytona Hoodie von Hot Patterns. Aber abgesehen davon, daß der Schnitt nicht sonderlich gut passte war er zum Rock auch zu lang. Und gekürzt machte die Känguruhtasche keinen Sinn. Also legte ich das Projekt erst mal auf Eis (war eh genug anderes im Leben zu tun), bis mir klar wurde, daß mir vor allem die Kapuze gefiel. Und dann noch die Raffungen an der Seite von Burda 6785.

Hoodie in pinkFinally I finished my top from the dark pink merino jersey knit. Originally I had planned to use the Daytona Hoodie by Hot Patterns. But for once the pattern did not fit really well, the top was too long to look good with a skirt. And shortening it would have made the pockete useless. So I waited for a while until I understood that what I wanted was the hood. Plus the side shirrings of Burda 6785.

Also schnappte ich mir meinen Standart T-Shirt Schnitt, verlängerte die Seite gemäß dem Burda Top und flanschte die Kapuze von Hot Patterns Schnitt an,

So I took my standard T-Shirt pattern, lengthened the sides according to the Burda pattrn and added the neckline and the hoodie of the Hot Patterns pattern.

Das Ergebnis ist leider nicht so ganz wie geplant… Der Merinojersey hat einfach gar keinen Stand und auch kein Elasthan. Außerdem ist er sehr weich. Ich bin mir nicht ganz sicher, ob er durch das Gewicht des Gummis in den Seiten runtergezogen wird (andererseits sind die Seitennähte durchaus gerafft) oder ob es am völlig fehlenden Stand liegt. Jedenfalls ergeben sich weder vorne noch hinten irgendwelche Raffungen…

The result is not really as intended… the soft merino knit is just… soft. And contains not elasthane. I am not sure if the problem is the weigth of the elastic that was used for shirring (on the other hand… there is visible shirring at the side seams) or the extreme soft drape of the fabric. But there is no shirring visible at front or back. 

GesamtoutfitDas Outfit im Ganzen sieht mit den vorlugenden Shirt gar nicht so schlecht aus… aber ich muß mal sehen, ob ich noch versuche, was zu verändern. Tragen tut sich der Stoff sehr bequem. Und ich mag die Verarbeitung. Ich habe Kappnähte von Hand genäht, so brauchte ich keine elastischen Stiche, sondern konnte das einfach über die Fadenspannung nähen. Bei der Kapuze habe ich über die Saumzugabe eine Spitze genäht und diese dann auch von Hand gesäumt. Und sonst alle Nahtzugaben unter Belegen versteckt. So sieht es von beiden Seiten schön aus.

The whole outfit doesn’t look that bad with the top peeking under the jacket. But it was not as intended. Not sure if I will try to change something… The fabric is wearing great. And I like the way I made the sems: doing the flat felling by hand. So no special stitches were needed, the tension of the thread controlled in hand sewing is enough. For the hem of the hood I hid the cut edge under  a lace ribbon. Otherwise I hid all allowances under the facing. So it looks really nice from both sides.

(Die Photos habe ich gemacht, bevor ich auf die h&h ging. Nach dem Motto: “Wenn ich schon aufgebrezelt bin…” Die Schuhe sind aber nur fürs Foto, die habe ich vor der Messe auch gegen flache ausgetauscht. So weit gehen meine masochistischen Neigungen dann doch nicht… 😛 )

(I took the pic before heading for the h&h trade fair. Like “once I am already dressed up…” thought the shoes were only for the pics. I am not such a masochist to go with heels on a trade fair… 😛 )

Fresh from the needles April 2017

Zugeschnittenes SchweinchenNein, das ist keine Vodoo Puppe, sondern Stoffreste meines Shirts, dessen Fortschritt ich im Februar gezeigt hatte. (Das Shirt ist fertig und seit wenigen Tagen auch photographiert. Kommt also auch noch.) Da der Stoff so schön pink ist, habe ich mir aus dem Aranzi Aronzo Buch die Anleitung für ein Schweinchen rausgesucht.

No, this is not a Vodoo doll, these are remnants from the shirt I’ve shown here as WIP in February. (Meanwhile it’s finished and even photographed since Saturday, so I will show that also in not too long.) Since the fabric is very… pink I picked from my book by Aranzi Aronzo the pattern for a piggy.

SockenSockentechnisch bin ich schon zwei Paar Socken weiter. (Ja, der Flaschenhals ist im Moment das Photographieren.) Ich arbeite schon für unsere diesjährige Weihnachtsaktion für Obdachlose und wie man sieht, gibt es wieder Socken. Das ist mein zweites Paar dafür, am Schaft der zweiten Socke angekommen. Wie man unschwer erkennt, sind es Restesocken.

Sockwise taking the pictures is the bottleneck, because those are already the second pair since February. They are already for the christmas party for the homeless charity this year. I started the leg part of the second sock. As you can easily see it’s socks from the remnants.

MohairpulliMein Strickoberteil ist ein ganze Stück weiter gekommen. Es hat einen Saum und hat zwei Teilärmel. Zuerst habe ich auf der einen Seite bis zur letzten roten Reihe gestrickt. Dann die andere Seite, damit ich nicht zu viel auftrennen muß, falls das rote Garn doch nicht reicht. Dann die andere Seite bis vor die erste braune Reihe. Jetzt habe ich den Rest vom roten Garn gewogen und denke, daß es reichen sollte. Also kann ich jetzt doch den ersten Ärmel fertig stricken und muß kein zusätzliches braunes Knäuel anfangen. Kompliziert, oder?

My knitted top did advance a lot. It has a hem and has two partial sleeves. I did the first sleeve until the last red row. Then I started the other side, so I will not have to back knit too many rows if the red yarn was not enough. Then I knitted the other side up to just before the first brown row. Now I’ve weight the rest of the red yarn and think it should be enought. So next will be to finish the first sleeve and I will not have to start an extra skein of yarn. Kind of complicated, not?

Lace TuchDas Lacetuch ist im vierten Rapport des Mittelteils und ich habe das dritten Knäuel Garn angefangen. Sieht allmählich nach Tuch aus…

My lace shawl is somewhere in the forth main repeat and I’ve started the third skein of my yarn. Starts looking like a shawl…

Zum Abschluss noch ein kleiner Blick auf die aktuelle Lektüre. Beides nicht sehr fortgeschritten. Ein französischer Roman, der fürchte ich kein gutes Ende nehmen wird. Und ein Häkelbuch, das schon ewig drauf wartet, für einen Rezension dran zu kommen. Der Anfang gefällt mir schon mal, es werden nämlich Teshäklerinnen erwähnt. Das gibt doch schon mal zur Hoffnung Anlass, daß man auch mit den Anleitungen was anfangen kann. 🙂

And to finish a short look on my books from the night stand. Both more or less just started. I have a French novel which I think will not have a kind of happy ending. And a book about crochet which has been waiting for quite some time to be reviewed. I like the beginning already, because it mentions test crocheters. That gives me hope for good instructions. 🙂

Exceptionally…

… langweilig, aber doppelt nützlich war das kleine Nähprojekt, das ich vor einigen Tagen nicht nur angefangen, sondern auch vollendet habe.

WaschlappenLangweiliger als Waschlappen geht es nicht. Aber mir wurde kürzlich bewusst, daß ein nennenswerter Teil meiner Waschlappen immer noch die sind, die meine Mutter mir beim Auszug vor knapp 30 Jahren mitgegeben sind. Und das waren damals schon nicht mehr die Besten. Inzwischen mehrfach gestopft und vom Frottee ist auch nicht mehr viel übrig. (Die, die ich vor etwa 20 Jahren nach einem Umzug für 0,99 DM (ja…) mal vom Grabbeltisch gezogen habe sind nicht deutlich besser.) Und wenn dann so ein Waschlappen beim Auswringen reißt… dann ist es echt Zeit für was Neues.

There is hardly anything more boring than sewing washcloth. But I recently realized that I am still using quite a few of the washcloths my mother gave to me when I left home 30 years ago. Which were not the newest and best at that time. Meanwhile they are darned and some of them more than once and the terry cloth has mostly lost the terry. (Those I’ve purchased for 0,99 DM (yes…) about 20 years ago after a move are not in a much better state.) And when you wring such a washcloth and it tears… it is really time for something new.

Gute Waschlappen kosten aber durchaus auch heute Geld und mir fiel ein, daß ich auch noch einen Rest Frottee in der Restekiste hatte. Der ist dick und nimmt viel Platz weg. Ein paar Meter Schrägband hatte ich auch noch… Mit groß abmessen oder stecken oder heften habe ich mich nicht aufgehalten. Ich habe den Stoff in Streifen geschnitten (eine Waschlappenlänge breit), eine lange Seite zwischen das Schrägband gelegt und frei Schnauze angenäht. Dann noch 75cm Schrägband aufeinandergenäht für die Aufhänger. Die Streifen dann in doppelter Waschlappenbreite durchgeschnitten, zusammengeklappt und mit Zickzackstich zusammengenäht. Dabei den Aufhänger zwischenfassen. Ich habe nicht auf die Uhr geguckt, aber das waren sicher keine zwei Stunden. Jetzt habe ich zehn neue Waschlappen. Für die nächsten 20 Jahre oder so. 😉

But good quality washcloth have their price and I remembered that I still had a piece of terry cloth in my remnant bin. Which is thick and takes up quite some space. And there were some meters of bias band also… I did not do a lot of measuring or pinning or basting. Just went away. I’ve cut the fabric in strips the width of a washcloth length. Sewed the bias to one of the long sides. Another 75cm I’ve sewn together to make the loops for hanging. Then I cut the stripes the double width of a washcloth, folded them over and sewed them togehter with a large zigzag stich. Catching the loops in the seam. I did not look on the watch, but I think it was less than 2 hours. Now I have ten new washcloths. For the next 20 years or so… 😉
