Giftboxes
Ich hatte dieses Jahr ja keine Zeit, irgendwelche Verpackungen zu nähen, aber stattdessen habe ich mich mal im Papier falten versucht.
I didn’t have any time to sew gift bags, but I tried a bit of paper folding.
Die Anleitung für diese hübsche Box fand ich in diesem Video. Zwar habe ich all diese schicken Faltwerkzeuge nicht, aber mit Nähzeug geht es genauso… Ich habe mein festes Papier auf die Schneidmatte gelegt, mit dem großen Patchworklineal ausgemessen und die Falzlinien mit einer Zopfnadel markiert. Statt eines Falzbeins habe ich dann meinen Clover „Hera Marker“ benutzt. Geklebt habe ich mit Streifen von meiner doppelseitigen Klebefolie. Gekauft habe ich nur eine kleine Stanze in Sternform. (Für 1,99 bei Hema in Paris… gibt es die in Deutschland auch?) Und festes Papier brauchte ich, da hatte ich nicht mehr genug.
I got the instructions for that nice box from this video. I don’t work with paper normally, so I do not have all those cool folding tools, but my sewing tolls did that as well. I placed the paper on my cutting mat, measured with my big patchwork ruler and used a small cable knitting needle to mark the fold lines. To create sharp folds I used my „Hera Marker“ by Clover. To tape it together I used small strips from the double sided film I have. I only needed to buy a punching tool. Since it was Christmas I choose a star shaped punch. (Only 1,99 EUR at Hema in Paris… do they exist in Germany also?) And I needed some strong paper, I hadn’t enough left.
(Und so schön bedrucktes Papier hatte ich auch nicht… das mußte ich auch kaufen.)

Natürlich gab es die Boxen nicht leer, sondern ich habe selbergemachten Fudge reingefüllt. Ich habe ja jetzt ein Zuckerthermometer, das muß genutzt werden. 🙂 (Die erste Variante war ein wenig zu süß, aber die anderen drei waren lecker, Geschmacksrichtung Karibik, Weihnachten und Canada. 😉 )
Of course the boxes were not gifted empty. I filled them with my home made fudge. I have a sugar thermometer now, that wants to be used. 🙂 (The first attempt was a bit over sweet, but the other three turned out just right and delicious. I made the tastes Caribic, Christmas and Canada. 😉 )
Danach kann man die Lasche einfach einschlagen und die bunte Hülle überstreifen.

Einige davon haben übrigens sogar den Postversand überstanden. Da habe ich noch einen Streifen Pergamentpapier über den Fudge gelegt und eine Schicht Noppenfolie rumgewickelt. (Und dann, je nach dem, als Beilage in ein Päckchen oder in einen Polsterumschlag.)
Some of them even survived shipping by post nicely. For that I added a strip of greaseproof paper over the fudges and then wrapped a bit of bubble foil around. (And then some went into bigger boxes with other things, others went into a padded envelope.)
Normalerweise bin ich mit Papier ja nicht so geschickt, aber die Boxen waren wirklich einfach zu falten und machen was her.
Normally I am not very good with paper, but those boxes were easy to make. And they look really great.
Xmas knitting….
… zum ersten und zum letzten.

Da mich ja seit Mitte November diese fiese Erkältung im Griff hatte, gab es dieses Jahr tatsächlich nur ein einziges selbergestricktes Weihnachtsgeschenk. Und das auch nur, weil ich sie im Oktober schon gestrickt hatte und vor Weihnachten dann nur noch Fäden vernähen mußte. Genäht habe ich gar nichts, auch keine Geschenksäckchen.
Since I was fighting this persistent cold since mid November I made only one Christmas gift myself this year. And that’s this knitted hat. And that did happen only because I had knitted the hat already in October so there were only the thread ends to weave in December. No sewing at all, not even gift bags.
Das Muster habe ich von den Biohazard Socks übernommen, die mein Bruder 2013 zu Weihnachten bekommen hatte. Leider bekam ich das Neon-Garn nicht mehr, also wurde es „normales“ Orange. Die Wolle ist „Sockenwolle 6fach“ von Woll Butt, das war das leuchtendste was ich gefunden habe. Für die Mütze habe ich vier Rapporte des Musters verwendet. (Und es steht wieder auf dem Kopf, ich merk mir das doch nie…)
The pattern I picked from Biohazard Socks, which had been the Christmas present of 2013. I couldn’t get the neon yarn, so I took the brightest „normal“ orange I could find. This was „Sockenwolle 6fach“ by Woll Butt. I used four repeats of the pattern. (And it’s again upside down… I’ll never learn it…)
Mein Bruder trägt sie, hätte es aber gerne in leuchtendem Neon gehabt… 😉
My brother wears that hat, but had preferred to have it in bright neon orange… 😉

Paris Christmas lights
Statt zu nähen oder meine fertigen Sachen endlich mal zu photographieren bin ich mal wieder ständig unterwegs… diesmal in Paris, wo ich vor Weihnachten schon lange nicht mehr war. Daher gibt es jetzt mal wieder ein paar mehr oder weniger kitschige Bilder mit vielen Lichtlein.
Instead of sewing or finally taking pictures of my finished items I am traveling… for example to Paris. It’s a long time since I’ve been there at the pre-Christmas time. So here are some kitschy pics with many lights…

Christmassocks 2014
Da Weihnachten vorbei ist, kann ich endlich auch meine traditionellen „Bruder-Geschenk-Socken zeigen. Diesmal das Modell Riff Socks aus der knitty.
Christmas is over, so I can finally show my traditonal „brother-gift-socks“. This time it’s Riff Socks from knitty.
Letztlich habe ich von der Anleitung aber nur das Muster der gekreuzten Streifen genommen und auf meine „normale“ Sockenanleitung angewandt. Als Größen gab es S, M, L und XL, aber keinerlei „Übersetzung“ welcher Schuhgröße das denn entsprechen könnte. Also habe ich meine normale Maschenzahlen verwendet, meine übliche Toe Up Socke mit Ferse mit verkürzten Reihen gemacht und de Zwickel weggelassen.
Finally I used only the crossing stripes pattern from the original pattern and used it with my „normal“ sock construction. The pattern came in sizes like S, M. L and XL, but no indications what (German) shoe size that might correspond to. So I used my normal number of stitches, made my usual toe up short row heel sock and ignored the gusset.
Letztlich habe ich sogar nur eines der Zählmuster verwendet und mir den Rest selber zusammengereimt. Ich glaube, die Kreuzung oben am Schaft habe ich auch anders gemacht als vorgesehen, ich wollte das „drüber-drunter“ abwechseln, im Muster ist das wohl anders vorgesehen. Und da ich keinen Grund sah, verschränkte Maschen bei der Linkskreuzung zu stricken, aber nicht bei der Rechtskreuzung… habe ich das auch weggelassen.
In the end I used only one of the charts and worked the rest according to my stitch count. Also I changed the „crossing“ of the „bands“ on the leg part. I wanted to preserve the „over-under-over-under“ rhythm, I think the pattern does not do this. And then I saw no reason to ktbl for the left twist while not doing so for the right twist… so I did not do that also.
Mit ein bißchen Rechnen habe ich aber trotz der anderen Fersenkonstruktion die Rhomben hinten auch gut hinbekommen.
I managed to do the calculation right, so even using a different heel construction I made the pattern fit on the heel, also.
Als Garn habe ich diesmal „Belday Strumpfgarn 4fach“ verwendet. Verstrickt hat es sich gut, mal sehen, wie haltbar es ist.
The yarn is „Strumpfgarn 4fach“ bei „Belday“ . Knits nicely, we’ll see how long it will last.
Wenn man das Muster komplett bis zum Schaft hochziehen will, bekommt man sehr, sehr lange Socken. Also länger, als ich sie normalerweise mache. Am Ende bleiben auch nur 4g Garn übrig, das war eine kleine Zitterpartie……
If you want the pattern to finish nicely on the leg you get a verry, very, long sock. At least much longer than what I am making normally. So I had only 4g of yarn left in the end, which caused my quite some trembling fingers towards the end, because I saw myself frogging down both socks to the heel….
Needleglow
Das war bei mir in den letzten Tagen angesagt: Ganz viele Geschenksäckchen und -verpackungen nähen. (Eines landete auf der Post, bevor ich ein Bild machen konnte…)
That’s what I was doing over the last days: Sewing a lot of giftbags and -packages. (One went to the mail before I had the chance to take a pic…)
Diesmal habe ich vor allem grauen Wollstoff (Typ Anzugstoff) mit dem Weihnachtsstoff kombiniert. Wieder ein paar Reste „vernichtet“.
This time it was mostly grey woolen suiting I’ve combined with typical christmas prints. Again some remnants gone….
Hektisch wurde es dann aber am Wochenende. Sehr kurzfristig kam die Planänderung, daß vier Geschenke nicht am 26. übergeben werden können, sondern am 22. zur Post müssen. Da glühte die Nadel dann mit dem Bügeleisen um die Wette…
Really hectic it was when I got the message (at very short notice) that four gifts did not have to be ready the 26th to be given directly, but had to go to the mail already the 22nd Then the needles and the iron were glowing alike…
I failed…
… ist der Versuch mich, die Handwärmer, Tageslicht und einen Photographen zusammen zu bringen. Zumindest bevor dieses Geschenk ab zur Post mußte. Daher ein „Handselfie“ vom Modell „Fetching„.

Meine Mutter kam nämlich auch relativ kurz vor dem Fest mit dem Spontanwunsch nach fingerlosen Handschuhen… Bei dem bereits erwähnten Schnellbesuch in der Casa Lana fand ich dann „Garzatto Fleece“ von Lana Grossa (Alpaka mit Poly), was ich mit 3,5er Nadeln sehr dicht zu den Handstulpen verstrickt habe. Das Zopfmuster kommt aus Alpaka nicht so gut raus, aber sie sind schön weich und ganz leicht. Und „Fetching“ hatte ich schon zwei Mal gestrickt, da wußte ich, daß es schnell geht…
My mother also came up with the spontaneous wish for fingerless mits relatively short time before Christmas. So in the already mentionned short visit to Casa Lana I also picked „Garzatto Fleece“ by Lana Grossa (alpaca – poly -blend) which I’ve knitted with 3.5mm needles to very dense mitts. The cables do not show well in Alpaca, but they are very soft. But I have already done Fetching twice, so I knew it would be a fast knit…
A granted wish will bear new ones…
Letztes Jahr hatte ich zu Weihnachten ja diese Handwärmer verschenkt. Und was kommt? Genau, für den Hals sollte es doch bitte auch noch was Warmes geben. Ende November geäußert wird das doch sicher noch was, ne?
One of my last years gifts were those handwarmers. And next? Yes, something warming for the neck would be nice. And if I am told that end of november I will be able to do it for christmas, right?
Zum Glück hatte ich gerade wirklich nichts dringendes auf der Nadel. Und nachdem mir klar wurde, daß ich ja nicht mit „Kureyon Sock“ stricken muß, sondern was dickeres nehmen kann, dachte ich, es wäre einen Versuch wert. (Nachdem ich den Wunsch eh schon kategorisch für 2013 abgelehnt hatte.)
Okay, there was nothing urgent on my needles. And when I realized, that I needen’t take „Kureyon Sock“ but could choose a thicker yarn I decided to give it a try. (After I had categorically rejected that wish for 2013.)
Also zwischen Sitzung und Weihnachtsfeier in die Casa Lana gesprintet (nicht mein Lieblingsladen, ist aber vom Büro aus ein Katzensprung), aus dem Noro „Kureyon“ Regal zwei scheinbar unterschiedliche, sich aber ergänzende Knäuel rausgefischt und ab.
So between office and office Christmas party I jumped into Casa Lana (which is not my favorite yarn store, but has the charme to be very close to the office), picked two balls of the Noro „Kureyon“ rack which seemed to be different, but working with each other and on I went.
Die beiden Garnknäuele entpuppten sich dann als die gleiche Farbe, auch recht. Stricken war einfach: Mit 4mm Rundnadel 130m anschlagen, 8 Runden abwechselnd eine Runde rechts, eine Runde links mit dem ersten Knäuel stricken, ab dann glatt rechts, abwechselnd zwei Runden mit dem einen Knäueln, zwei Runden mit dem anderen, bis Knäuel 1 aufgebraucht ist (bzw für keine zwei Runden mehr reicht), anschließend noch mal 8 Runden rechts und links im Wechsel mit Knäuel 2, abketten, fertig. Angefangen Donnerstag, fertig gestrickt am Sonntag (da war ein verhocktes Wochenende dabei) und bis zum nächsten Donnerstag war es dann vernäht und einmal im Handwaschgang der Maschine gewaschen. Die Kureyon wird dann doch deutlich fluffiger und weicher. Eine echte Weihnachtsüberraschung in nur einer Woche!
Both skeins claimed to be the same color (well.. Noro, you know…). Knitting was very easy: With 4mm circs casting on 130 stitches, 8 rounds garter stitch with skein 1, then in stockinette 2 rounds with skein 2 and 2 rounds with skein 1,… until skein 1 is used up (or has not enough left to finish 2 rounds, 8 rounds in garter stitch with skein 2, bind off, finish. Casted on on a Thursday, finished knitting on Sunday (there was a weekend of sitting and talking between) and until next Thursday the ends were woven in and th cowl had been washed in the hand wash programm of the washing machine. (Kureyon gets way fluffier when washed.) So a real Christmas surprise in one week!
Sewn from the outside…
Dieses Jahr hatte ich mal wieder Zeit, die Geschenke auch nähtechnisch zu verpacken. Was ja gleichzeitig noch einige Stoffreste verbraucht. Und eigentlich wollte ich das zeigen, bevor ich anfange, den Inhalt der Päckchen vorzuführen…
This year I had enough time to make sewn gift wrappers. Which also uses up some fabric remnants. And the idea was, to show that before I start showing what was inside…
Wie man sieht, war ich zum einen etwas Patchwork-inspiriert, zum anderen war ich faul. Ich habe mir die erste halbwegs passende Kombination aus Stoffrest und Weihnachtsstoff gegriffen und habe die erst mal „aufgebraucht“. Also bis nicht mehr genug von der Kombi für die nächste Verpackung da war.
As you can see I was for once quite patchwork inspired. And secondly I was lazy. I picked the first more or less fitting combination of a christmas print and a fabric remnant and worked on that until it was kind of used up. (Means what was left was not enough for the next needed gift bag size.)
Die ersten beiden Bilder zeigen also drei eher kleinere Verpackungen, die großen Säcke für einen großen und einen nicht so großen Jungen zeigt das letzte Bild.
The first pictures show smaller bags. The last one shows the big bags for one big and one not so big boy.
Für den kleinen Jungen gibt es einen Kuschelsack, nur aus Fleece.
For the little boy there is the cozy bag made of fleece.
Das hat den Vorteil, daß so einiges an Volumen aus meiner Restekiste rausgekommen ist…
This has the advantage, that my remnants box got rid of quite some volume…
Und was in den Säcken noch so drin war (die Socken habt ihr ja schon gesehen) zeige ich demnächst, zumindest was das selber gemachte betrifft.
