Diesmal war mein Schal aus dem Wollmeise- Sonderposten aus der Maschenkunst an einem Ort den vermutlich kaum einer kennt. Speichersdorf heißt er und liegt an der Porzellanstraße.
Und hat einen Fabrikverkauf, wie man im Hintergrund sieht…
This time my scarf that is still being knitted from the Wollmeise yarn I got at Maschenkunst was at a place probably no one knows. It’s called Speichersdorf and is part of the porcelain road.
And there is a factory outlet as you can guess from the background….
Der Wollmeise Schal (aus dem Wollmeise Sonderposten in der Maschenkunst ist schon ein ganzes Stück gewachsen. (Die Lace Stola ist inzwischen fertig und wartet auf eine freie Matratze zum Spannen, das wird noch dauern.) Deswegen durfte er mit nach Aachen in den Handarbeitstreff (eine ganz nette private Initiative). Auf dem Tischtuch hat er sich natürlich besonders wohl gefühlt. 😉
The Wollmeise scarf grew quite a bit meanwhile. (The lace shawl is finally finished and is waiting for blocking which requires a free space and will take a while.) So it was allowed to come to Aachen to the Handarbeitstreff (“craft meeting point”), a privat initiative of very sweet people. And of course the scarf felt very at home on that dish cloth. 😉
Na, erinnert sich noch jemand an den Lace Schal aus “Victorian Lace Today”, den ich seit geraumer Zeit aus dem Silk Mohair von Artyarns aus der Maschenkunst stricke? 😉
Ja, ich bin noch dabei und die Stola war mit in Paris. Hier aber im Thalys (Zug) schon wieder kurz vor der Rückfahrt. Und die Stola ist das helle Zipfelchen ganz vorne im Bild…
Anybody remembers the lace shawl after the pattern from “Victorian Lace Today” I’ve been knitting for quite a while? You haven’t forgotten the material is Silk Mohair by Artyarns, purchased at Maschenkunst? 😉
Yes, I’m still knitting and it has been to Paris with me. But here we are in the Thalys train again, some time before heading back to Germany. And the shawl is the wee bit of stitches on the bottom of the pic…
Ich hatte mal wieder fast ein ganzen Knäuel Wolle von Tortora übrig und Lust auf noch eine graue Mütze. Es schwebte mir was leichtes vor, lässig und eher slouchy, mehr für die Übergangszeit als für den Winter. Und nachdem ich das angefangene Knäuel, das natürlich nicht mehr genug für eine Mütze war, einige Wochen auf dem Schreibtisch ständig vor meiner Nase hatte machte es “Pling”.
Again I had a nearly whole skein yarn left over (from Tortora) and I felt like yet another grey hat. I wanted something airy, slouchy, nor really for winter but for cool autumn and spring days. The “I am not enough for another hat” skein sat on my desk for some weeks and while I was staring at it nearly every day the inspiration hit me.
Ich hatte doch noch einen Rest Lace Garn, auch Alpaka, in der gleichen Farbe! Und damit das grau nicht zu langweilig wird… da war doch noch der M30 Zierfaden von Alterfil in silber… steht nirgendwo, daß man mit Nähgarnen nicht auch stricken darf, oder? 🙂 (Die anderen beiden Garne, “Alpaca Andes” von katia und “Alpaca 1” von Isager gibt es bei der Maschenkunst. Daß die Farben so exakt passen ist natürlich Glück.)
Didn’t I have another left over in grey alpaca from a lace project? And since grey alone might be a little dull I dug into my sewing threads and came up with some metallic silver M30 Zierfaden by Alterfil. There is no law against knitting with sewing thread, isn’t it? (The other yarns, “Alpaca Andes” by katia and “Alpaca 1” by Isager can be purchased at Maschenkunst. That the colors match perfectly was a nice coincidence.
Dann noch ein paar Abende mit einem Nadelspiel in 5,5 gearbeitet und fertig war die Mütze. Dichte und transparente Streifen wechseln sich ab, genau wie ich es wollte.
(Für Mützen sollte ich mir allerdings endlich mal ein Spiel mit langen Nadeln in der Stärke besorgen. Auf den kurzen war es doch etwas lästig…)
Add some evenings with a set of 5.5mm dpns and the hat was finished. Alternating dense and transparent stripes, exactely how I wanted it.
(Next time I’m knitting a hat with this needle size I should not forget to buy long dpns. Knitting the thick yarn on the short needles was not so nice.)

Diesmal war ich in Speyer und hatte kurz vorher aus dem Wollmeise Sockenwolle 80/20 Twin in der Farbe “Flaschenpost”, das ich in der Maschenkunst erobert hatte eine Schal angeschlagen.
Die Anleitung stammt tatsächlich ganz altmodisch aus einem Buch, 101 Designer One-Skein Wonders und heißt “Marialis End-to-End Scarf”.
I’ve travelled to Speyer and had started a new project just the day before. Yarn is “Sockenwolle 80/20 Twin” from Wollmeise which I managed to buy at Maschenkunst only some weeks ago. The color is called “Flaschenpost”.
The pattern comes, very old fashioned, from a book. 101 Designer One-Skein Wonders is the title and the pattern is called “Marialis End-to-End Scarf”.
Fixing crocheted socks
2009 bekam mein jüngster Bruder diese Häkelsocken in der Hoffnung, sie würden sich stabiler erweisen als die gestrickten. Nun, dem war nicht so, schon seit Frühjahr 2010 lagen auch diese in meiner Stopfkiste. Kürzlich habe ich sie mir endlich vorgenommen.
2009 my youngest brother got those crocheted socks for Christmas and I was hoping they would last longer than the knitted ones. Well, the weren’t and until spring 2010 those sat in my collection of things that need fixing. Now finally I managed to work on them.
Nun war mein Bruder der Ansicht, kaputt seien sie, weil er den Schaft aufgerissen hatte. Das war auch der Fall, aber ein Blick auf die Sohlen sagte mir, daß nur den Schaft zu reparieren nicht viel Sinn machen würde.
Aber wie repariert man eine Häkelsocke?
My brother thought the damage was the leg part he had torn. That was true but one glimpse of the soles told me that repairing the leg only wouldn’t make any sense at all.
But how to darn a crocheted sock?
Kurzum… genauso wie eine gestrickte, mit Maschenstich.
Ich hatte noch von der grauen Wolle und habe dann von Innen eine Schicht Maschenstiche über die gehäkelten Maschen gelegt. Dabei habe ich versucht, auch mit jedem Stich ein paar Fasern der Ursprungssocke mit zu erwischen, damit das Ganze stabil bleibt, auch wenn die äußere Schicht demnächst die ersten Löcher bekommt. (Und da hängt einiges nur noch an ein paar Fasern.
Im Bild sieht man links die Innenseite mit den Maschenstichen und rechts die Socke von außen. Die Reparatur ist nicht unsichtbar, aber der Häkelcharakter bleibt erhalten.
Well, I did the same as for knitted socks, kitchener stitch.
I still had a good deal of the gray yarn left and I worked kitchener stitches from the left side, woven into each other but also catching a loop or some fibers from the original sock with each stitch. I hope that will stabilize the sock when the original stitches will finally break. (Which is not far ahead.)
The picture show a repaired sock from the inside on the left and from the outside on the right. It is not an invisible repair, but it keeps the look of a crocheted sock.
Allerdings war es ziemlich zeitaufwendig und hat eine Menge Material gekostet, so daß ich durchaus überlegt habe, einfach neue zu stricken oder zu häkeln. Aber die wären dann wieder an der gleichen Stelle durchgelaufen und würden auch mehr Zeit und Material kosten. Deswegen bekamen diese dann erst mal eine Sohlenverstärkung.
It took quite some time and also yarn to repair the socks, so I had considered to make new ones instead. But those would be walked through at the same spot soon and in the end they would require more time and yarn. So I decided to strengthen the sole at least once.

(Ich habe ja oft das Gefühl, ich bekomme deswegen zuhause nicht so viel geschafft, wie ich möchte, weil ich ständig unterwegs bin. Wenn ich mir das so ansehe… ich bin ständig unterwegs.)

“Bird”alarm at Maschenkunst! (Sorry, that translates badly…)
Regelmäßige Leser(innen) des Maschenkunst Blogs wissen es ja schon, ein Schwarm Wollmeisen ist eingeflogen und steht seit Dienstag zum Verkauf.
100kg hat Daniela bekommen und das Bild zeigt, was heute am späten Nachmittag davon noch da war.
It might be necessary to explain something… “Meise” is a kind of a bird. “Wolle” is similar to English, means wool or yarn. And “Wollmeise” is a combination of both words and the brand of an indie wool dyer whose yarn is hard to get. She updates her shop only from time to time and it seems people are using an alarm clock not to miss it and trying to catch at least something.
And 100kg of this fabulous yarn have arrived at Maschenkunst in Cologne and are on sale since Tuesday. What you see on the picture is what was left today in the afternoon. four boxes reduced to less than half.
Daß ich mir einen Wecker stelle um bei einem Shopupdate vielleicht was zu ergattern kommt nun nicht in die Tüte. Ich habe ein Leben außerhalb des Internets und es gibt extrem viele schöne Garne.Und um sie auf gut Glück und ohne Farben und Qualität zu kennen zu kaufen sind sie mir dann zu teuer.
Aber wenn sie vor Ort sind und befummelt werden können… sieht das doch anders aus.
I am definitely not someone who sets the alarm clock, clicking wildly through the shop trying to catch at least something, no matter what. I have a life outside the web and there are more beautiful yarns in the world than I will ever have the chance to knit with. Also to buy without knowing the colors and without touching and feeling the quality they are to expensive for my taste.
But if I have a chance to see and touch them things are different.
Dass ich bei meinem Einkauf tatsächlich mäßig war verrät mir Isas Kommentar “für dich reicht eine kleine Tüte”. 🙂
Gelandet sind 300g Lace Garn “Stella Polaris” in semi solid. Für In the Pink von IzziKnits suche ich nämlich schon länger nach einem Garn das weder zu bunt, noch ganz einfarbig ist. Ich hoffe die Stärke passt. (Vom Lace Garn waren als ich ging noch vier oder fünf da.)
Größer war die Auswahl bei der Twin und der Merino Superwash, wobei die meisten Farben die mich interessiert hätten nur in Twin da waren, ich aber die etwas längere Lauflänge von der reinen Merino bevorzugt hätte. Nicht schlimm, einfach weniger gekauft. 🙂
Evidently I was a moderate shopper because Isa handed me the yarn with the words “a small bag will do for you”.
I picked a 300g skein of lace yarn in “Stella Polaris” color in semi solid. I am eying the patter In the Pink by IzziKnits for some time already, but couldn’t find a yarn that was neither to agitated nor completely plain solid. I hope the yarn will fit the pattern in the end. (When I left there were only four or five lace yarns left.)
For the fingering yarns, the “Twin” sock yarn and the merino superwash the choice was still bigger. A pitty that the colours I prefered were only there in “Twin” when I would have prefered them in Merino. Mostly for the reason that the 100% Merino has a little more length per skein, what I prefer. But that wasn’t to bad, so moderate shopping was easier.
Links ist ein Multicolor “verhext und verratzt”, lila mit grau, was sicher was tragbares für mich wird. Wer mich kennt, den wird das quietschrüne “Wasabi” in der Mitte irritieren. Ja, ich kann mir nicht vorstellen, das je zu tragen. Aber die Farbe sprach derart stark zu mir, was ja eher selten vorkommt, daß sie mit mußte. Ähnliches gilt für die “Flaschenpost” rechts, auch das ist zu grün für mich. Da habe ich aber schon eine konkrete Geschenkverwendung im Auge. Mal sehen, ob ich mich bis Weihnachten noch umentscheide.
On the left a multicolor yarn called “verhext und verratzt” in colors that will become something wearable for me one day. Those who know me an my habits are surely irritated by the very green “Wasabi” in the middle. Right, I can’t image wearing something that color ever. But the color was talking to me that strongly I had to take it. And that only happens rarely with me. Similar “Flaschenpost” on the right. Too green for me. But for that I have in mind to make a gift from it for a specific person. Let’s see how often I am going to change my mind until Christmas.
