Fresh from the needles April 2017

Zugeschnittenes SchweinchenNein, das ist keine Vodoo Puppe, sondern Stoffreste meines Shirts, dessen Fortschritt ich im Februar gezeigt hatte. (Das Shirt ist fertig und seit wenigen Tagen auch photographiert. Kommt also auch noch.) Da der Stoff so schön pink ist, habe ich mir aus dem Aranzi Aronzo Buch die Anleitung für ein Schweinchen rausgesucht.

No, this is not a Vodoo doll, these are remnants from the shirt I’ve shown here as WIP in February. (Meanwhile it’s finished and even photographed since Saturday, so I will show that also in not too long.) Since the fabric is very… pink I picked from my book by Aranzi Aronzo the pattern for a piggy.

SockenSockentechnisch bin ich schon zwei Paar Socken weiter. (Ja, der Flaschenhals ist im Moment das Photographieren.) Ich arbeite schon für unsere diesjährige Weihnachtsaktion für Obdachlose und wie man sieht, gibt es wieder Socken. Das ist mein zweites Paar dafür, am Schaft der zweiten Socke angekommen. Wie man unschwer erkennt, sind es Restesocken.

Sockwise taking the pictures is the bottleneck, because those are already the second pair since February. They are already for the christmas party for the homeless charity this year. I started the leg part of the second sock. As you can easily see it’s socks from the remnants.

MohairpulliMein Strickoberteil ist ein ganze Stück weiter gekommen. Es hat einen Saum und hat zwei Teilärmel. Zuerst habe ich auf der einen Seite bis zur letzten roten Reihe gestrickt. Dann die andere Seite, damit ich nicht zu viel auftrennen muß, falls das rote Garn doch nicht reicht. Dann die andere Seite bis vor die erste braune Reihe. Jetzt habe ich den Rest vom roten Garn gewogen und denke, daß es reichen sollte. Also kann ich jetzt doch den ersten Ärmel fertig stricken und muß kein zusätzliches braunes Knäuel anfangen. Kompliziert, oder?

My knitted top did advance a lot. It has a hem and has two partial sleeves. I did the first sleeve until the last red row. Then I started the other side, so I will not have to back knit too many rows if the red yarn was not enough. Then I knitted the other side up to just before the first brown row. Now I’ve weight the rest of the red yarn and think it should be enought. So next will be to finish the first sleeve and I will not have to start an extra skein of yarn. Kind of complicated, not?

Lace TuchDas Lacetuch ist im vierten Rapport des Mittelteils und ich habe das dritten Knäuel Garn angefangen. Sieht allmählich nach Tuch aus…

My lace shawl is somewhere in the forth main repeat and I’ve started the third skein of my yarn. Starts looking like a shawl…

Zum Abschluss noch ein kleiner Blick auf die aktuelle Lektüre. Beides nicht sehr fortgeschritten. Ein französischer Roman, der fürchte ich kein gutes Ende nehmen wird. Und ein Häkelbuch, das schon ewig drauf wartet, für einen Rezension dran zu kommen. Der Anfang gefällt mir schon mal, es werden nämlich Teshäklerinnen erwähnt. Das gibt doch schon mal zur Hoffnung Anlass, daß man auch mit den Anleitungen was anfangen kann. 🙂

And to finish a short look on my books from the night stand. Both more or less just started. I have a French novel which I think will not have a kind of happy ending. And a book about crochet which has been waiting for quite some time to be reviewed. I like the beginning already, because it mentions test crocheters. That gives me hope for good instructions. 🙂

Striped sneaker socks

Sneaker Socken aus BaumwollgarnWunschgemäß gibt es für meinen Bruder diesmal Sneaker Socken zum Geburtstag. Nachdem er Weihnachten meinte, Wintersocken hätte er jetzt eigentlich genug, weil er auch die Baumwollsocken mit Schaft nur im Winter trägt…

Since my Brother told me on Christmas that he is well equipped now with winter socks, since he is also wearing the cotton socks only in winter, because in summer the leg part feels to warm for him.,, he’s getting sneaker socks for his birthday.

Das Garn ist von Lana Grossa “Meilenweit Solo Cotone Stretch” und hat zur Baumwolle noch einen Polyesteranteil. Im Gegensatz zu einem “Stretch” Garn, das ich früher mal verwendet habe fühlt sich das beim Stricken aber zum Glück nicht dehnbar an. Mit dem anderen war ich nämlich nicht gut klar gekommen. Bei den Ringeln habe ich mir nur ungefähr Mühe gegeben, den Farbverlauf zu treffen und das hat erstaunlich gut funktioniert.

The yarn is “Meilenweit Solo Cotone Stretch” by Lana Grossa. It’s cotton and polyester but luckily it is not stretchy while knitting. (I’ve once had a “stretch” yarn that was really kind of elastic and had trouble knitting with it.) I’ve only taken a bit of care to match the stripes of both socks but they turned out pretty well for that.

Die Socke ist meine “Standardsocke”, nur ohne Bein. Wobei ich oberhalb der Ferse mit verkürzten Reihen noch einen kleinen Keil gestrickt habe, damit sie nicht so leicht in den Schuh reinrutschen. Mal sehen, wie im Herbst der “Tragebericht” ausfällt. 🙂

The pattern is my standard sock pattern, just without the leg part. I added a bit of height with short rows over the heel only, so they should not slip into the shoe so easily. We’ll see what my brother will tell me about how they have been wearing once summer is over. 🙂

Shirt als "Bausatz" in pinkEndlich gibt  es mal wieder ein richtiges Nähprojekt. Ein Shirt soll es werden, ich habe letztlich vom Daytona Weekender von Hot Patterns die Kapuze übernommen und von Burda 6785 die Seitennaht mit der Raffung. Das ganze habe ich an meinen Standardshirtschnitt “angebaut” und hoffe, daß die Gesamtwirkung so wird, wie ich das gerne hätte. Wie üblich alles etwas aufwändiger, als geplant, denn ich mache überall Kappnähte, die aber (nach der ersten Naht) von Hand. Das Material ist Wolljersey, in dem Handstiche so gut wie unsichtbar sind und man kann von Hand die Fadenspannung so regulieren, daß die Naht elastisch genug bleibt. Ohne am Ende eine Zickzacknaht auf der rechte Stoffseite zu haben.

Finally a real sewingproject again. It’s supposed to become a top. In the end I decided to use the Hood from the Daytona Weekender by Hot patterns and the shape of the side seams from Burda 6785 with the shirred effect. The details were added to my old standard shirt pattern. I hope it will turn out as expected. As usual it will be more work than originally planned. I make flat felled seams and I am doing the felling part with hand stitches. The fabric is a woolen jersey so it is easy to make mostly invisible stitches and I can create the right tension on the thread easily so it will remain elastic enough without having ugly zigzag stitches on the right side of the fabric.

geringelte Sneaker SockenDa mein Bruder bald Geburtstag hat sind auch wieder Socken auf der Nadel. Für den Sommer hat er sich Sneaker Socken gewünscht (hätte er mir ja auch eher sagen können…), da habe ich natürlich nichts dagegen, weil sie deutlich schneller gehen. Material ist “Meilenweit Solo Cottone Stretch” von Lana Grossa. Was sich überraschenderweise gut verstrickt. Ich hatte mal ein anderes Garn mit Elasthan, mit dem ich gar nicht klar kam. Hier ist der Gehalt aber so gering, daß das Garn selber nicht beim Stricken dehnt. Ob es die Haltbarkeit der Socken am Fuß erhöht wird man sehen. Ich habe da noch ein Knäuel von, das sollte ich dann für mich ausprobieren.

My brother’s birthday is approaching, so I have the next socks on my needles. He finally told me he is only wearing sneaker socks in summer (could have told be before…), so that’s what he will be getting this year. Nice for me because without a leg part they are done much faster. The yarn is “Meilenweit Solo Cottone Stretch” by Lana Grossa. It knits better than expected. Some time ago I had knitted with another yarn with Elasthane/Spandex content and had big problems to create an even tension. Here the content of Elasthane is very low, so the yarn does not stretch while being knitted. If it is enough to make the socks stay put on the feet we will see. I have another skein of that which I will be trying for myself.

Tuch TrillianDas Tuch “Trillian” ist fast fertig. Gebraucht habe ich 140g von “Jawoll Magic” von Lang Yarns. Das ist etwas weniger als die Anleitung angibt, mir ist das Tuch aber groß genug. Hier müssen noch die Fäden vernäht werden und dann noch gedämpft oder so. Und dann mal sehen, was draus wird. Ich habe ja schon so viele Tücher.

“Trillian” is nearly finished. It used 140g of “Jawoll Magic” by Lang Yarns. That is a little less than the pattern calls for but I think the shawl is big enough. I still have to weave in the ends and do a little steam blocking or something like that. And then let’s see what I will do with it. I already have so many shawls.

rote StricktunikaEin bisschen weiter gewachsen ist auch meine Stricktunika. Kurz nach dem letzten Beitrag habe ich das sechste Knäuel vom roten Garn doch noch gefunden, habe bis zum Beginn von braun wieder rückgestrickt (trennen ging bei dem Garn nicht, aber Masche für Masche zurückstricken war möglich) und noch ein Knäuel rot gestrickt. Jetzt ist aber braun unwiderruflich mit eingearbeitet. Ein Stück länger soll es schon noch werden.

Some growth of my knitted tunic. Shortly after my last overview I’ve found the sixth skein of red yarn so I backstiched to where I had started the brown yarn (the yarn is fuzzy, ripping was not possible, but taking out stitch by stich was doable) and added a whole skein of red. Now brown has definitely started. I want more length.

BücherEine ganze Menge Projekte also, die im Moment hier so in Arbeit sind. Das Buch von A.S.Byatt habe ich dank eines wirklich häßlich verregneten Wochenendes in Paris fertig gelesen, stattdessen ein kleines Intermezzo mit Donna Leon. Das Buch über die Handschuhe ist nicht immer noch Abendlektüre, sondern schon wieder. Bei den Handarbeitsbüchern lese ich ja nicht immer so systematisch, sondern mal hier ein bißchen, mal da ein bißchen…

So there are a lot of projects going on at the moment. Readingwise I managed to finish the A.S.Byatt thanks to a really ugly and rainy weekend in Paris. Now a bit of Donna Leon which will probably not last that long. The book about gloves is not still on my nightstand but again. I do not read the craft and fashion books so systematically, more like some pages here, some pages there…

Ready for Summer!
Socken
Meine nächsten Sommersocken wären nämlich fertig. Naja, Sommer kommt hoffentlich nächstes Jahr wieder… (Wie aufmerksame Leser bemerkten… ist ja schon 2017, also dieses Jahr. 😉 )

I have finished my next summer socks. Well… let’s guess summer will be back next year… (As attentive readers did mention… it is already 2017, so this year. 😉 )
Socken
Diesmal völlig langweilig geradeaus, weil sie eigentlich noch immer Sommer fertig werden sollten. Das Garn ist wieder TOM Cotton von Bärengarne Strumpfgarn. Völlig unspektakulär wandern sie jetzt in die Sockenschublade und warten auf den nächsten Sommer.

This time completely boring plain vanilla because I didn’t have a good idea and because I had planned to use them in the summer of 2016. Yarn is again TOM Cotton by Bärengarne Strumpfgarn. Completely unspectacular they will to to the sock drawer now, waiting for next summer.

Christmas socks with deer

Socken mit NorwegermusterDieses Jahr konnte ich die Weihnachtssocken für meinen Bruder dann auch mal an den richtigen Füßen photographieren. Deswegen passen sie auch.

This year I could photograph my brother’s Christmas socks on the “right” feet, so they have the right size.

Das Garn ist von Lidl, bei Ravelry als “Anika” von Crelando gelistet. Eigentlich hatte ich die Packung ja gekauft, weil ich mal für mich rote Socken wollte… tja, war wohl nichts, zu dem Muster musste es dann einfach rot sein.

The yarn is “Anika” by Crelando. I had purchased that package because I wanted red socks for myself… well, not this time. But for this pattern it had to be red.

Strickmuster kopulierende HirscheDas Muster ist Fornicating Deer Chart von Anne Rutten, mit ein paar freien Improvisationen drüber und drunter. Der Rest zwischen den Viechern ist, damit die Spannfäden nicht so lange werden. (Und das Muster ist eine Nahaufnahme wert, oder? 😉 )

The pattern is Fornicating Deer Chart by Anne Rutten, with some simple improvisations above and below. The rest between the animals are stitches to prevent too long pieces of yarn hanging at the back side. (And the pattern is worth a close up, isn’t it? 😉 )

Mein Bruder hat jedenfalls beschlossen, die Socken mit hochgekrempelter Hose zu tragen.

My brother decided that those socks need the jeans turned up at the bottom.

Fresh from the needles December 2016

Ein spannendes Nähprojekt gibt es inzwischen nicht zu vermelden. Zum einen bin ich mit der Advents- und Weihnachtsvorbereitung gut beschäftigt, zum anderen kann ich seit etwa vier Wochen nicht mehr gut an meine Nähmaschine, weil die Pakete von der Mützen für Obdachlose Aktion davor stehen. Am Wochenende werde ich die mal in einen Koffer umschichten und am Montag werden sie an das Diakonische Werk in Köln übergeben.

There is no interesting sewing project right now. Once I am quite well occupied with Christmas preparation, but also I can hardly reach my sewing machine since about four weeks ago, because there are the parcels from the Knitting hats for the homeless campaign stored in front of it. This weekend I will stuff them into a big suitcase so I can bring them to the Diakonisches Werk in Cologne who will distribute them.
Stopfwäsche
Was ich allerdings getan habe, so lange die Maschine noch zugänglich war: Meine Stopfwäsche abarbeiten. So ist aus dem anfänglichen Gebirge dieser doch recht handhabbare Haufen geworden.

What I did as long as I could reach my machine was working on the clothes for repair. It had started as a mountain and I am down to a relatively small heap by now.
Socken
Aktuell habe ich die Weihnachtssocken für meinen Bruder fast fertig. Das Motiv ist aus dem Fornication Deer Chart von Anne Rutten übernommen, die Wolle ist Crelando “Anika”, vulgo Lidl Wolle.

Stricktuch Trillian
Nachdem die Socken nur noch zu vernähen sind (und das besser auf der Couch passiert als in der Bahn) habe ich mir das Trillian Tuch erneut vorgenommen, so daß hier das erste Knäuel fast verstrickt ist. Ich muß dann man mit meinem Hitchhiker vergleichen, ob mir die Größe reicht, oder ich das zweite noch anfange. (Das ist definitv ein Nachteil der Anleitungen von Martina Behm: Dadurch, daß die immer für Wollmeise ausgelegt sind, wo die Knäuel mit 150g kommen, passt es bei allen anderen Garnen dann schlechter.)

The socks need mostly the ends woven in which is better done at home than on a train, so I got the Trillian scarf out of hibernation. I’ve nearly finished the first skein, I think I will compare the size with my hitchhiker and then decide, if I start the second one or not. (The biggest disadvantage of the patterns by Martina Behm. She is writing it all for “Wollmeise”, who comes in 150g skeins. So it does not match all other “standard sized” yarns.)
Striktunika
Bis auf den Hüftknochen reicht mir inwzischen meine Stricktunika. Ich komme zwar nur selten zum Stricken, aber sie wächst schnell. Nur kann ich im Moment das sechste Knäuel rot nicht finden, also werde ich etwas zeitiger als mir lieb ist auf braun umstellen. 🙁 Von den Proportionen her hätte ich gerne mehr rot gehabt. Naja… Außerdem werde ich die Zunahmen jetzt etwas forcieren, damit ich zum Saum hin noch etwas Weite gewinne.

What grew nicely is my knitted tunic. It has reached my high hip. I do not have time to knit on it very often, but it grows well. Only problem right now is, that I can’t find the 6th red ball… so I will have to switch to brown sooner then I wanted to. The proportion would have been nicer with more red. Well… And I will have to make fewer rows between the rows where stitches get added, I wanted to have a bit more width at the bottom.
Lace Schal
Ein etwas ungewöhnliches Garn habe ich für mein nächstes Lace Projekt gewählt. Es ist relativ fein ausgesppnnenes Jakobschaf, was von natur aus diese “bunte” Färbung mitbringt. Es ist aber viel rauher als Lace Garne normalerweise. Ich bin schon gespannt, wie am Ende die Textur wird. Die Anleitung kommt aus Victorian Lace Today und es ist der “Knitted Veil in Pyrenees Wool”.

Maybe a bit unusual is the yarn I’ve chosen for my next lace project. It’s a relatively fine spun Jacob sheep, which brings this multitude of natural hues. It is much rougher than lace yarns normally are so I am really curious to see what the texture will be in the end. The pattern is from Victorian Lace Today and it’s the “Knitted Veil in Pyrenees Wool”.
Bücher
Zum Abschluss noch ein Blick auf die Nachttischlektüre. “The Children’s Book” wird mich wohl noch eine Weile begleiten, denn es ist so ergiebig, ich es erhofft hatte. Nur mein Zeitbudget gibt das gerade nicht her. Und dann blättere ich momentan gerade gerne in einer Geschichte zum Thema Handschuhe. Auch sehr spannend.

The last view goes to the books on my night stand. “The Children’s Book” will accompany me for a while because it has as much content as I had hoped for. Just my spare time does not have the same content. And then I am browsing from time to time the sides of a history of Gloves. Very interesting also.

Lace-Stripe-Socks
gestreifte Socken mit Lochmuster
Auch das hier sind wieder Socken, die vor allem auf Reisen gestrickt wurden. Bei dem gestreiften Garn hat man nicht viele Mustermöglichkeiten und ich wollte auch etwas, was ich ohne Anleitung arbeiten kann. Also habe ich immer bei pink ein Lochmuster gearbeitet. Außerdem gab es Lochmuster für das Bündchen. das sich dadurch hübsch schräg stellt.
gestreifte Socken
Again socks that were mostly knit while traveling. Since the yarn makes already stripes there are not so many possibilities for a pattern. And I wanted something I could do, without constantly checking the instructions. So I made an extremely simple lacy part any time the dark pink appeared. Also I added some lace to the coff which makes a nice slanted effect.

Das Garn habe ihn ohne Banderole bei einem Tausch bekommen, daher kann ich nur sagen, daß es ein Sockengarn mit Baumwolle ist…

The yarn is from a swap and I got it without any information, except that it is a sock yarn with cotton…

Allmählich hat sich das gewohnte Projektchaos wieder breit gemacht…

Hoodie nach Hot Patterns
Genäht wird gerade ein Hoodie nach einem Schnitt von Hot Patterns. Mein erster dieser Firma, daher wird der Schnitt erst mal mit einem weniger spannenden Stoff getestet, bevor es an den Wolljersey geht. Der Schnitt hat mich bislang nur mittelmäßig begeistert, denn es sind so viele Größen auf dem Schnittbogen, daß die Linien (alle in Schwarz) oft zu einer dicken werden und man dann nur noch raten kann, was wohl die Schnittlinie sein könnte. Und die Nähanleitung führt aus meiner Sicht auch nicht zum schönsten Ergebnis. Da werde ich einiges ändern müssen. Dafür sitzen die Schultern aber bislang da, wo sie hingehören. Das ist bei mir ja nicht immer der Fall.

I am back to sewing big things, this time a hoodie after a pattern from Hot Patterns. It’s the first time I am using a pattern of that company so before I will cut my woolen knit fabric I am trying it in a less important fabric. The pattern did not excite me too much. There are a lot of sizes on the paper and often all those (black) lines converge into a very thick black line and you can only guess where the right size might be. Also the instructions do not give the best way to sew it IMHO. So for the second one I will have to make some changes. On the other hand the shoulders fall where they should and that is not often the case for me.
Socken
Socken habe ich noch mal Garn mit Baumwolle (TOM Cotton Strumpfgarn von Bärengarne) auf die Nadeln genommen, ganz ohne Muster geht es relativ schnell, die zweite Socke ist kurz vor der Ferse.

For socks I choose another time a sock yarn with cotton (TOM Cotton Strumpfgarn by Bärengarne) and I am knitting it plain vanilla, so it’s a relatively fast knit. The second sock is not far from starting the heel.
Tuch Trillian
Für ein Seminar brauchte ich dann noch mal ganz langweiliges Stricken, daher habe ich auch noch mal ein Tuch angefangen, diesmal “Trillian” nach Martina Behm aus Jawoll Magic von Lang Yarns. Keine Ahnung, ob ich das behalte. Das Garn war da, die Farben sind gar nicht so meins.

Then for a seminar where I was supposed to listen I needed a completely brainless knitting. So I started a simple triangular scarf, it’s “Trillian” by Martina Behm. The yarn is “Jawoll Magic” by Lang Yarns. Not sure if I will keep the scarf in the end, I needed something to knit, the yarn was there… but I am not sure if I can make any use of those colorways.
Stricktunika Raglan von oben
Und es gibt endlich mal wieder ein größeres Strickprojekt. Das soll so eine Art Tunika werden, mein erster Raglan von oben. Das Garn ist hier “Diva” von Le Mohair des Fermes de France. Das Ergänzungsgarn (wegen der Menge) hatte ich ja erst im Januar gekauft und habe die Tunika auch dieses Jahr schon angeschlagen. Für meine Verhältnisse ist das ganz gut.

I also started another bigger knitting project. It’s my first raglan from the top and it is supposed to become a kind of a flared tunic. The yarn is “Diva” by Le Mohair des Fermes de France. I only bought one color in January this year (which I needed because what I already had was not enough) and have started knitting it this year. Quite good for me.
Bücher
Zum Abschluss noch der Blick auf die aktuelle Lektüre. Mit dem englischen Nähbuch bin ich immer noch nicht durch, das besteht doch aus viel Text und wenigen Bildern, dafür bin ich romantechnisch ein paar Werke weiter, hier bei einem sehr angenehmen Lesevergnügen mit vielen lebendigen Szenebeschreibungen.

And not to miss the look on my reading right now. I am still not finished with the Victorian Dressmaking Techniques. There are a lot of words and a lot of information densely packed. While on the novel side I have moved on by a few books, here a real reading pleasure with many lively described scenes.

Cables in cream

Socken mit Zopfmuster

Nachdem das tweedigen Garn meine Musteridee so böse ausgebremst hat, habe ich das Muster noch mal aus einer normalen Sockenwolle gestrickt. Natürlich mit kleinen Modifikationen… das Muster entwickelt sich betont V-förmig und oberhalb der Ferse gibt es auch schon ein bißchen Muster bis zum Bündchen.

Socken mit ZopfmusterSince the nice tweedy yarn did prevent me from finishing the pattern as intended I gave it another go with an ordinary sock wool. With some modifications, of course… The patern develops from a v-shape and I made a bit of purling on the back of the leg above the heel.

Das Garn ist diesmal “sock’s wool ‘uni'” von Schewe und ich brauchte auch meine üblichen 65g.

Socke
Auf dem Tauschweg hatte ich ein älteres Knäuel Opal Wolle bekommen. Den tweedigen Charakter fand ich toll und so fing ich mit diesen Zopfsocken an. Ich merkte schnell, daß mein Gestrick dichter wurde als sonst. Was bei Socken ja kein Nachteil ist. Allerdings hatte ich auch den Eindruck, daß das Garn arg schnell schrumpft… und habe es nach der Ferse mal auf die Waage gelegt. Und dann einen sehr kurzen Schaft gestrickt. Was bei so schön dicken Socken an sich schade ist. Aber 420m, wie auf der Banderole angegeben läuft die ganz sicher nicht. (Normalerweise bekomme ich mit ca 65 g meine normale Schaftlänge. Hier habe ich 99g verbraucht und habe nur einen Stummelschaft….)

A while ago I got in a swap a nice skein of Opal sock wool. I liked the quite “tweedy” character of the yarn and started socks with cables. I instantly recognized that my knitting was more dense than normally. Which is not a bad thing in socks. But then I got the impression that the yarn is knitting up extremely fast and put it on the balance after the first heel. And then made a very short leg and cuff. What is kind of a pity in such a warm sock wool. The yarn stated it would run 420m for the skein. For sure not… (Normally I need about 65g of sock yarn for my “normal” size and leg lenght. Here I used 99g and still got only something that is only a bit longer than a sneaker sock….)
