Strange socks

Herrensocken aus RegiaUnd wieder ein Paar Socken fertig.

Sie sehen ein wenig seltsam aus, wie sie so da liegen, aber das hat einen Grund. Ein Experiment, sozusagen. Jetzt werde ich das Experiment noch in zwei anderen Größen wiederholen, danach weiß ich mehr.

Another pair of socks finished. They look a bit odd, but that’s okay. There is a reason to it, it’s a kind of experiment. I will repeat that experiment in two more sizes, then I knoa whether it works.

Zu meinem eigenen Erstaunen ist es mir zum ersten Mal gelungen, in etwa gleiche Socken anzufertigen. Ein bißchen habe ich gemogelt, als ich merkte, daß ich etwa eine Reihe falsch war, habe ich eine Nadel in 2,25 in mein 2,0er Nadelspiel gemogelt. Und mit den ungleichen Nadeln gestrickt, bis die Ringel wieder stimmten.

Garn ist mal wieder Regia, “Canadian Classic” nennt sich die Farbstellung. Aha, so sieht also Kanada aus…?

My biggest surprise was, that I have managed to knit two more or less identical socks. I did cheat a bit, because when I saw that the second sock was about one row off I replaced one of my 2mm needles by a 2.25 mm needle and continued knitting with different sizes in the set until the pattern was right again.

Yarn is my trusted Regia, the colors are called “Canadian Classic”. So, that is what Canada looks like…?

Preliminary result

SockenSo, meine Fehlstart-Socken sind was das Stricken betrifft fertig.

Knittingwise the socks I’ve started to early are done. Now they will be put aside until next year. And then I’ll think about what I can do to make the pattern more visible.

Jetzt gehen sie bis nächstes Jahr erst mal in eine Kiste und dann mache ich mir Gedanken, wie ich das Muster sichtbarer bekomme.

Ich habe ja noch einige Monate Zeit, bis ich sie dann als Geburtstagsgeschenk brauche.

It will be some months until I’ll need them as birthday gift.

Warm Coquille

Tuch CoquilleJetzt ist es fertig, mein Tuch.

Now my shawl is finished. It was fun to knit, the color runs shouldn’t have been any shorter. There is a bit more green-yellow in the blue than what I normally have. But over all I like the result.

(And since I had no one to take a picture of me the old chair had to model it.)

Stricken machte sehr viel Spaß, die Farbverläufe dürften kürzer wahrlich nicht sein und es ist etwas mehr gelb-grün im Blau, als ich das sonst so habe. Aber das Ergebnis gefält mir. (Und weil ich mal wieder niemanden habe, der mich mit dem Tuch photographiert, muß der alte Stuhl als Model herhalten…)

Es ist nach dem Spannen wieder ein wenig zusammengegangen, aber da ich sehr stark gespannt habe, war das zu erwarten. Schließlich ist es  Sockenwolle, die hält einiges mehr aus, als feines Lace Garn.

Coquille Tuch

After blocking I let it relax for another day and it went back a bit. But I blocked it really hard, so this was no surprise. And after all, it’s sock wool, more stable than typical lace yarn

Und so kühl wie es allmählich ist, darf es mir jetzt auch gleich die Schultern wärmen.

And since it is quite cool already, the shawl can start warming my shoulders right now.

Hier stehe ich, und spann nicht anders…

Here I am… blocking

Tuch Coquille, gespanntDas scheint zumindest im Moment mein Motto zu sein. Damit wäre dann tatsächlich alles “weggespannt”, was noch so an Stricksachen herumlag.

That seems to be my motto of the moment. That is the last unblocked item so far. Nothing around that waits blocking.

Aus der Herbstausgabe von Knitty hatte es mir dieses Tuch angetan, ich brauchte was relativ hirnloses und ich hatte ein gewisses Bedürfnis nach Wärme, daher kam diesmal Sockenwolle zum Einsatz. Ein langer Farbverlauf sollte es sein und ich wurde wie meistens in der Maschenkunst fündig. “New Duetto” von Katja kam zum Einsatz.

The pattern is from the fall issue of knitty, I liked it instantly and when I needed some mindless knitting this was my choice. Also I felt like some more substantial than lace. So this time it’s sock yarn. I was looking for long color runs and my LYS Maschenkunst offered me “New Duetto” from Katia.

Gestrickt war es recht schnell und einfach, beim Spannen hätte ich mir jetzt etwas klarere Instruktionen gewünscht, wie das mit den vielen Godets so gemeint ist. Zumal die Anleitung als Größe nur “klein” und “groß” kennt, aber keine Maße angibt. Letzteres wäre dann doch auch hilfreich gewesen. (Natürlich habe ich die Version in groß gestrickt, muß sich ja lohnen.)

Da es jetzt ja schon recht kühl ist, habe ich jedenfalls gute Verwendung dafür.

Knitting was quick and easy, but for blocking I would have prefered some more detailled instructions, what to do with all those gussets. That the pattern gives no measurements, only size “small” and “large” was no help either. (Of course I did “large”, what else?)

It’s finished absolutely in time, since it’s getting quite cold already.

A Little Bit of Lace…

Lace Schal.. geht immer.

… is never wrong.

Sprich während der eine Schal aufs Spannen wartete, habe ich natürlich ein neues Lace Projekt angeschlagen.

So while the scarf was waiting to be blocked I had already started the next lace project.The pattern will only be visible after blocking, but I am into repeat 19 of 40, so I am nearly halfway through.

Man erkennt auf dem Bild zwar noch nichts vom Muster, aber von den 40 Rapporten habe ich schon 18 und ein bißchen.

“Myrtle Leaf Shawl with Willow Border” aus Victorian Lace Today soll es werden. Diesmal in schwarz, wie das Original. (Ja,machmal kann ich mich auch an die Anleitung halten…) Als Garn habe ich mir wieder Isager Alpaca 1 in der Maschenkunst ausgesucht, damit habe ich ja schon mal gute Erfahrungen gemacht.

Bis diese Stola fertig ist, wird es allerdings noch dauern, es sind ja noch etliche andere Projekte zu machen, gerade vor Weihnachten.

This time it’s the “Myrtle Leaf Shawl with Willow Border” from Victorian Lace Today.In black, like it’s in the book. Yes, sometimes I can follow instructions. Yarn is Isager Alpaca 1 from Maschenkunst, I’ve already used it once and had liked it.

But it will take quite awhile before this will be finished, because there are a lot of other projects waiting to be made, especially before christmas.

Fern for Christmas

Lace ScarfUm das supersofte Cashmere von Artyarns in der Maschenkunst war ich ja eine ganze Weile herumgeschlichen. Aber der Preis… für eine Stola in meiner üblichen Größe reicht auch da ein Knäuel nicht. Aber ein Schal… für eine besondere Person…

I fell in love with the super soft Artyarns Cashmere the first time I saw it at Maschenkunst. But the price was beyond the “Let’s just buy it” level. And shawls I normally knit take more than one skein. But a scarf… for a special person…

Lace Scarf

Also habe ich jetzt mein erstes Weihnachtsgeschenk fertig. 🙂

So my first Christmas gift is finished. 🙂

Ein passendes Muster habe ich via Ravelry gefunden: CashSilk Fern Scarf war das passende Muster. Sogar kostenlos und bringt das Garn gut zur Geltung.

Soo duftig leicht…

Sneaker SockenAuch diesen Socken bekamen noch einen Praxistest, bevor der Sommer endgültig vorbei war.

Und nun habe ich auch die Anleitung aufgeschrieben. Wie immer zum privaten und nicht kommerziellen Gebrauch frei.

Swimming scarf

Cashmere Schal schwimmtGut, daß ein leichter Lace-Schal erst mal auf dem Wasser schwimmt und man ihn herunterdrücken muß, damit er sich vor dem Spannen schön vollsaugt, das kenne ich ja schon.

If you put a lace scarf in water to soak it before blocking means normally, that it will not sink quickly by itself. That’s no news to me.

Aber daß er auch wieder hochkommt, nachdem ich ihn drei Mal runter gedrückt habe und sogar ein bißchen zusammengedrückt, damit mehr Lift rausgeht und Wasser rein kann… das hatte ich dann auch noch nicht gesehen.

Dieses Cashmere 1 von Artyarns ist schon ein ganz besonderes Material…

But that it comes up floating again after I pushed it three times under water, even squeezing carefully to remove air and give way for the water… that I hadn’t seen before.

False start into Christmas season

SockenDieses Jahr wollte ich zeitig mit den Vorbereitungen für Weihnachten anfangen und ich habe tatsächlich auch ein paar Socken angefangen.

This year I wanted to start early with my Christmas preparations and I already started a pair of socks.

Allerdings hat mich am Wochenende jemand dran erinnert, daß wir uns für den geplanten Empfänger ja schon was anderes überlegt hatten…

Naja, dann gibt es die Socken halt nächstes Jahr zum Geburtstag. Dafür bin ich dann wirklich früh dran. Andererseits habe ich dann noch Zeit mir zu überlegen, wie man das Muster wenigstens ein bißchen sichtbarer gestaltet…

Only this weekend I was reminded that we had already decided to give another gift to that person…

Well,… the socks will make a birthday gift then. Next year. So I am really early. On the other hand that gives me some time to figure out how to make the pattern a bit more visible….
