handgestrickte Stulpen in CamelMein Ziel, endlich mal die Einzelknäuel zu reduzieren (oder überhaupt meine Wolle…) bleibt gnadenlos bestehen. (Eigentlich wollte ich mal nicht mehr als 100 verschiedene aktive Garne gleichzeitig in meinem Ravelry-Stash haben. Da bin ich weit drüber, auch wenn vieles davon Reste sind… das ist zu viel.)

Da ich die Garne nach Alter (zuerst die, die schon länger in meinem Vorrat sind) abarbeite, war bei sommerlichen Temperaturen ein extrem molliges Garn “Miski” von Mirasol Yarn dran. 100 Prozent Lama, nur gut 60 Meter Lauflänge.

Bei Ravelry fand ich dafür Easy Fingerless Mitts von Roxanne Richardson. Einfach ein Rechteck, das zusammen genäht wird, die Öffnung für den Daumen bleibt offen. Da ich keine Maschenprobe machen wollte, war mein erster Beginn viel zu groß. Nach dem was ich hatte, habe ich es umgerechnet… hätten dann doch ein paar Maschen mehr sein können. Für mich passt es, ich weiß nur noch nicht, ob ich sie behalte.

Sie sind superweich und superwarm… aber ich habe schon so viele.

Und blöderweise gab es wieder einen relativ großen Rest. Das war ja nicht so der Plan gewesen…

Handstulpen AnnabellaIch hatte mir ja vor gefühlten hundert Jahren (mein gut gepflegter Stash sagt, es war Sommer 2011, was ja fast das Gleiche ist…) beim amerikanischen Versender Webs eine “Grab Bag” mit Einzelknäueln bestellt, um einfach mal verschiedene Garne auszuprobieren, die in Europa nicht so einfach oder gar nicht erhältlich sind. So ein paar kleine Projekte aus einzelnene Knäueln, kann man ja immer mal zwischenschieben, hatte ich mir gedacht.

It feel like 100 years (my ravelry stash says it was summer 2011 which is nearly the same…) that I’d ordered a grab bag at Webs. I’d thought it a nice idea to try yarns that are not available here with small one skein projects.Which should easily be doable just in between.

Na gut, mehr als sechs Jahre später sind noch etliche davon da und ich habe tatsächlich mal wieder ein kleines Projekt eingeschoben. Das Garn heißt “Del Cerro” von Aslan Trends (natürlich gibt es das auch schon nicht mehr…) und ist ein reines Merinogarn, mit einem rustikalen Griff, weil es doch noch eine gewisse Menge Lanolin zu enthalten scheint. Dabei aber ganz weich.

All right, it’s six years later and I still have quite a lot of those skeins, but I have been able to create a small project with one of the yarns. It’s called “Del Cerro” (discontinued, of course…) by Aslan Trends. It’s a merino yarn with an interesting and rustique touch, because it seems there is still quite a bit of lanolin left in the yarn. But also very soft.

Die Anleitung habe ich mal wieder auf Ravelry gefunden, diesmal die Armstulpe Annabella von Anna Aponte. Ich mußte nur deutlich kürzen, weil ich viel weniger Garn hatte. Wobei ein Rapport mehr wäre wohl doch noch drin gewesen, aber ich mochte dann nicht mehr trennen. Das Muster finde ich perfekt für den rustikalen Griff des Garns, die Struktur kommt auch sehr gut zur Geltung. Ich weiß nur noch nicht genau, was ich damit mache. Die Handwärmer gefallen mir unglaublich gut, aber ich habe schon so viele… sogar welche in Naturweiß. Die ich auch mag…

The pattern I piqued on ravelry, it’s Annabella by Anna Aponte. I had to make it much shorter, because I had not so much yarn. Though one pattern repeat would have been possible, I guess, but I did not want to frog. The pattern is perfect with the natural hand of the yarn and the structure turns out perfect. I just do not know what to do with those mitts. I love them a lot, on the other hand I already have more of those than I can use… even in that kind of off white. And I like the other ones, too…

Breezy typing

Nachdem ich es ja im Winter angenehm fand, mit kleinen Handwärmern zu tippen, diese mir aber im Frühjahr schnell zu warm wurden, wollte ich noch eine etwas luftigere Variante. Als ich dann ohnehin das Strickspiel von Neko zum Testen hatte, war das eine gute Gelegenheit.

Since I had found it nice to use minigloves in winter for typing at the computer but also found the ones I had to warm in spring I wanted some more breezy ones. Then I got the special knitting needley by Neko for a test and found that a good project.

Es wurden dann die Pulsvarmere med Tommelhull von Marianne Dahle Petersen. Der Haken an der Anleitung ist, daß sie auf norwegisch ist, was ich nun gar nicht spreche. Aber Dank gewisser begrifflicher Ähnlichkeiten mit anderen bekannten Sprachen und einem schönen Bild bei der Anleitung gelang es mir, das Wichtigste zu entziffern. Nur daß man sie eigentlich flach hätte stricken sollen und nicht in Runden, das ist mir erst aufgefallen, als ich fast fertig war. Geht in der Runde auch gut, nur hätte ich die zwei Randmaschen weglassen können.

Finally I decided on Pulsvarmere med Tommelhull by Marianne Dahle Petersen. The problem is… the pattern is norvegian only. A language I do not speak the leat bit. But thanks to certain similarities of knitting vocabulary with languages I do understand and the picture I was able to figure it out. Mostly. They are not supposed to be knitted in the round but flat and then seamed. That I only figures out at the end. No problem to knit in rounds but I could have left out the border stitches.

Als Garn habe ich einen Rest Sockenwolle (Crelando “Anika”) in blau verwendet. Zuerst ein wenig kratzig, nach dem Waschen aber nicht mehr. Gestrickt waren sie schnell, nur dann hingen sie bis zum Photo Monate auf der “Spannstation”.

I used Crelando yarn “Anika”, a remnant in blue. Felt a bit scratchy at the inside of my wrists first, but after soaking they were fine. They were knitted fast, but then they’ve spent months on the “blocking station” until I was able to take a picture.

Im Moment ist mir ja zu heiß dafür, aber es kommen sicher wieder kältere Tage. Und vielleicht stricke ich mir noch welche aus einem Rest Alpaka Lace Garn…

At the moment it is too hot even for these, but I am sure there will come colder days. And maybe I’ll make a second pair from Alpaca Lace yarn….

Jetzt spinnt sie total!

Stulpen spannenDabei stricke ich ganz sicher keine Spitzenhüllen für Plastikflaschen, ich trockne nur meine neuen Pulswärmer. (Wie die Daumenöffnung dem aufmerksamen Beobachter verrät. 😉 )

But of course I am not knitting lace cosies for plastic water bottles. I am just drying my new mitts. (As the attentive observer can guess from the thumb holes. 😉 )

Button and Mitt

Ich liebe ja inzwischen Handstulpen: Man kann ganz toll Einzelknäuel und Reste aufstricken und ich trage sie gerne am Computer, weil ich da chronisch kalte Finger habe. Mein Lieblingsmodell vom Winter wird aber inzwischen etwas zu warm, also habe ich mich nach einer etwas leichteren Variante umgesehen.

I love fingerless mitts a lot: They are great for using lonesome skeins of yarn or bigger remnants and I like to wear them when typing on the computer because I tend to get cold fingers. My favorite typings mitts from last winter are getting a bit too warm though, so time for something a little less heavy.

Stulpen, Bild Nina W. Pfeiffer Diesmal wurden es die Button Flap Fingerless Mitts von Missy Angus, die ich bei Ravelry gefunden habe. Als Garn habe ich ein Knäuel “Torino” von Tahki Yarns verwendet, das aus meiner Bestellung von Webs vor etlichen Jahren stammt. Die Knöpfe sind Keramikknöpfe von Jim Knopf, die schon seit einigen Jahren in meiner Knopfdose wohnen.

I chosse the Button Flap Fingerless Mitts by Missy Angus which I found via ravelry. Yarn is a skein “Torino” by Tahki Yarns from my Web’s order years ago. Buttons are ceramic buttons from Jim Knopf which I had in my stash for some time.

Die Anleitung ist klar und die Stulpen sind einfach und schnell gestrickt. Ich mußte allerdings nach der Daumenöffnung noch mal auftrennen, um die Anzahl der Runden bis zum Daumenloch um eine zu verringern. Auch das Fingerbündchen habe ich um eine Runde gekürzt. Mein Garn war etwas knapp und ich wollte unbedingt die Riegel auch stricken können, weil die m.E. den Witz am Design ausmachen.

Handstupe, Bild Nina W. Pfeiffer Instructions were clear so it was an easy and fast knit. I had to rib down to beyond the thumb hole though and reduce the number of rounds to the tumb hole by one and then also making the finger cuff one round shorter. I was a bit short of yarn, but wanted absolutely to do the flaps, because they are what makes the pattern interesting IMHO.

Ich habe dann die Gelegenheit genutzt, mal neue Techniken zum Anschlagen (Alternierend aufgestrickter Kordelanschlag) und Abketten (Jenys überraschend dehnbare Abkettmethode) auszuprobieren. Um die Knöpfe aufzunähen habe ich einen Strang des Strickgarns mit farblich passenden AlterfilS 120 kombiniert, damit die Keramikknöpfe auch sicher halten.

Since it was all so easy I tried new techniques to cast on (Alternating Cable Cast On) and bind off (Jeny’s Surprisingly Stretchy Bind Off). To sew the buttons I split the yarn and combined one strand of it with a thread of AlterfilS 120 in the same color. Ceramic buttons are relatively heavy and always have a bit rough holes, so some stabile poly thread is great to make lasting buttons.

Das Ergebnis gefällt mir super gut, das Einzige was ich bei der Anleitung noch gerne gehabt hätte wäre eine genauere Angabe, wo denn der Riegel aufgenäht werden soll. Ich bin nicht so gut darin, daß vom Photo abzuleiten… Aber wie man sieht, habe ich das dann auch hinbekommen. Und das Garn ist auch superweich und trägt sich genauso wunderbar, wie es sich stricken ließ.

I absolutely love the result. The only detail where I had whished more precice in instructions was about where exaclty to place the flaps. Figuring out that from a picture is not exeactely what I am good at…. But as you can see I’ve managed. And the yarn is soft and wears as lovely as it was to knit.

Very fast fingerless mitts

Zumindest theoretisch, wenn man statt Maschenprobe erst mal eine Stulpe mit doch etwas zu kleinen Nadeln strickt, dann dauert es etwas länger.

At least theoretically. If you skip the gauge and knit one mitt with to small needles instead then it takes a bit longer.

HandstulpenIch hatte ein Knäuel “Joana” von Schachenmayr nomotto. Von dem hatte ich so ein- oder zwei Meter gebraucht, um einen Mütze fertig zu stricken. Also suchte ich was für das dicke Garn mit der eher kurzen Lauflänge.

I had one skein of “Joana” by Schachenmayer nomotta left. I had needed a bit more than one meter to finish a hat and was left with one not even full skein of a thick yarn with not to much meterage.

Und da fand ich bei ravelry dieses Modell: Bofur’s fingerless Gloves von Anya Lowery. Was mich fasziniert ist, daß dies wirklich die einfachste Konstruktion eines Handwärmers ist: Perlmuster, ein Schlitz für den Daumen… und es funktioniert! Die grobe Optik gefällt mir sehr gut. Dadurch daß die Finger und der Daumen weitgehend frei sind, kann man auch gut arbeiten. Die sollten eigentlich auch gut sein, um im Winter am Computer zu tippen. Dabei bekomme ich nämlich auch gerne kalte Finger. Ich gehe allerdings davon aus, daß ich das diesen Winter nicht mehr testen werde…

And then I found the Bofur’s fingerless Gloves pattern by Anya Lowery on ravelry. I am very fascinated by the extreme basic construction principle: Seed stitch, an opening for the thumb…. done. I like also the look a lot. Fingers and thumb are mostly free, so great to do some work. And they should be useful to type on the computer on cold winter days. I tend to get cold hands from this. But I do not think I will have to test it this winter...

Einziges Problem: Es ist immer noch Garn übrig… das war nicht so geplant.

Only problem: There is still some yarn left… that was not the plan.

Mitts for an Organist

Orgelhandschuh“Das wäre zum Orgelspielen aber praktisch” sagte ein Freund spontan, als er mich hieran nadeln sah. Er mußte mir aber zustimmen, daß die doch ein wenig mädchenhaft sind. 😉

“That would be useful for playing the organ” a friend of mine said spontaneously when he saw me knitting those. But he agreed that they were a little too girly for him. 😉

(Für Nicht-Kirchgänger: die meisten Kirchen sind alt und nicht gut geheizt. Oder gar nicht, wie in diesem Fall.)

(For those who do not know: European Churches are often old and not well heated. Or not at all. As is the case for my friend.)

Aber das klang nach einem “Auftrag”, der mir Spaß machen würde, also ließ ich mir die Wunschmaße geben und strickte los. Wunschgemäß natürlich in einem frischen männertauglichen grau, sehr weiche Sockenwolle von Lana Grossa, Meilenweit 50 Seta/Cashemere.

But that sounded like an “order” that would be fun so I asked for the measurements he wanted and started knitting. The color he wanted was a fresh grey, of course. A very soft sock woll, Meilenweit 50 Seta/Cashmere by Lana Grossa.

Wenn ich schon keine Farbe nehmen durfte, habe ich mich an der Struktur ausgetobt: die Rippen des Armteils sind locker gezopft, auf dem Handrücken geht es dann mit sehr dichten Zöpfen weiter. Der Daumenzwickel ist extra mit etwas Mehrweite für die Bewegungsfreiheit gestrickt und die Zöpfe laufen dezent über den Daumen weiter.

Since I wasn’t “allowed” colors I played with texture: The ribs on the arm have loose cabels which get dense in the back of the hand. The thumb gusset is a little loose to make sure there is enough room for movements. And decent cables run up the thump.

Die Stulpen sind schön lang, um die Finger in den Spielpausen warm zu halten. Und wenn es ans Spielen geht, dann kann man das Bündchen vorne etwas zurückfalten.

The mitts are nicely long to keep the fingers warm while waiting. And to start playing one can fold it back a bit.

Mir hat das Stricken jedenfalls Spaß gemacht und mein Freund ist glücklich über seine Orgelhandschuhe. 🙂

I had a lot of fun knitting it and my friend is very happy about his organists mitts. 🙂

I failed…

… ist der Versuch mich, die Handwärmer, Tageslicht und einen Photographen zusammen zu bringen. Zumindest bevor dieses Geschenk ab zur Post mußte. Daher ein “Handselfie” vom Modell “Fetching“.

… in my attempt to get mits, me, daylight and photographer togethere before this gift had to be shipped. So you can only have a “handselfie” of “Fetching“. 

Meine Mutter kam nämlich auch relativ kurz vor dem Fest mit dem Spontanwunsch nach fingerlosen Handschuhen… Bei dem bereits erwähnten Schnellbesuch in der Casa Lana fand ich dann “Garzatto Fleece” von Lana Grossa (Alpaka mit Poly), was ich mit 3,5er Nadeln sehr dicht zu den Handstulpen verstrickt habe. Das Zopfmuster kommt aus Alpaka nicht so gut raus, aber sie sind schön weich und ganz leicht. Und “Fetching” hatte ich schon zwei Mal gestrickt, da wußte ich, daß es schnell geht…

My mother also came up with the spontaneous wish for fingerless mits relatively short time before Christmas. So in the already mentionned short visit to Casa Lana I also picked “Garzatto Fleece” by Lana Grossa (alpaca – poly -blend) which I’ve knitted with 3.5mm needles to very dense mitts. The cables do not show well in Alpaca, but they are very soft. But I have already done Fetching twice, so I knew it would be a fast knit…
