Der eine oder andere mag sich schon gewundert haben, was die ganze Häkelei so soll. Der Grund ist einfach: Ich finde diese Häkeldecken im Patchwork Stil (neudeutsch „Granny Square“ genannt) sehr schön. Kann mir aber so was buntes nicht in meinem Wohnzimmer vorstellen, denn das ist schon chaotisch genug. Aber… wo steht geschrieben, das so ein Ding bunt sein muß? Richtig, nirgendwo!

Some might have been a bit surprised that I was crocheting quite a bit. The reason is simple: I like Granny Square Plaids, but I can’t imagine to put something that colorful in my living room. Which is chaotic enough, even without a big thing with random colors. But… there is no law that they have to be multicolor, right?

Also habe ich schon vor geraumer Zeit angefangen, Wolle in creme und beige Tönen zu kaufen. Dazu habe ich gezielt bei Sonderangeboten nach Garnen Ausschau gehalten, die für Nadelstärke 3,5 – 4 ausgelegt waren und bin mit ein wenig Geduld in der Maschenkunst fündig geworden.

I’ve started to by wool on cream and beige quite some time ago. I picked them on sale and choose yarns that were specified for 3.5mm – 4.0mm needles/hooks. A bit of patience and I got them all in very good quality at Maschenkunst.

Die weiße katia „linen“ ganz links hatte ich noch als recht großer Rest (gut 3,5 Knäuel), die war damals von WollArt. Dann habe ich „Morena“ von Schachenmayr nomotta, 20 Knäuel in einem sehr hellen Ton, 6 Knäuel von ggh „Boulino“, 10 Knäuel von einem dunkleren Ton der „Morena“ und 9 Knäuel ggh „Samoa“. Ich habe keine Ahnung, ob das Garn reicht und behalten mir auch vor, noch einen oder zwei Töne dazuzukaufen, aber die Riesentüte Garn geht mir im Schrank allmählich arg im Weg um und außerdem WILL ich endlich anfangen!

Next is „Morena“ by Schachenmayr nomotta, I have 20 skeins in a very clear cream shade. Then 6 skeins „Boulino“ by ggh, 10 skeins of a darker and variegated shade „Morena“ and 9 skeins „Samoa“, also by ggh. I have not the slightest idea if that is enough yarn, and if something crosses my way I might buy one or two shades more, but the big bag with that yarn was getting in my way to often and also I finally WANT to start!

Die Motive habe ich mir aus dem Buch „Beyond the Square“ zusammengesucht, die Probeläppchen habt ihr ja schon gesehen. Was mir gleich sehr gut gefiel war Motiv 30, das wollte ich unbedingt. Damit war klar, daß ich als Form keine Quadrate sondern Hexagons nehme und auch, daß das zweite Motiv (ich wollte wenigstens zwei verschiedene Motive) die gleiche Größen haben müßte. Besonders der zweite Punkt war nicht ganz einfach. Letztlich habe ich Motiv 54 genommen, allerdings nur die ersten vier Runden. Danach mit festen Maschen abschließen. Und außerdem arbeite ich Motiv 30 mit einer 4mm Nadel und Motiv 54 mit einer 3,5mm Häkelnadel. Damit klappt es.

I picked the motifs from the book „Beyond the Square“. You did see the testing motifs in the blog already. The one I liked instantly was motif 30, I absolutely wanted to use it. So it was decided it would be hexagons, not squares and also which size the second motif was supposed to have. (I wanted at least tow different pattern.) Especially the thing with the size was not so easy. In the end I choose motif 54, but only round 1-4 of the pattern. The finishing with sc. Also I am working motif 30 with a hook in size G and motif 54 with a smaller one in size E. So I get them both the right size.

Wie viele Patches ich im ganzen brauche vermag ich nicht abzuschätzen. (Oder will es nicht wissen, weil die Anzahl zu frustrierend wäre…) Ich nadel halt jetzt mal los und in einigen Jahren ist dann hoffentlich eine Decke fertig…

I cannot even guess how many hexagons I will need (or maybe I do not want to calculate, the number might be too frustrating..). I am starting now, crocheting on and on and in some years from here I hope to end with a plaid…
