SandalensockenNachdem ich schon zwei paar „Fußschoner“ aus dem Knäuel herausgestrickt hatte war immer noch was übrig. Also habe ich für meine „Ärgersandelen“ noch geschwind zwei „Sandalensocken“ genadelt.

After two pairs of „footlings“ from that ball of yarn there was still some yarn left. So I made a quick pair of sandal liners.

Die Anleitung? Ganz einfach: 52 Maschen auf dem Nadelspiel anschlagen, zur Runde schließen und 33 Runden im Rippenmuster (2 rechts, 2 links) stricken. Nadelstärke war bei mir 2 mm, wer weniger locker strickt nimmt eher 2,5 mm. Locker abketten. Das dürfte für die meisten Frauenfüße passen.

Fußschoner am ArmInstructions? Easy: Cast-On 52 on dpns, close to round, knit 33 rounds in 2-2 ribbing. Bind of loosely. I took needlesize 2mm, whoknitsless loosely takes 2,5mm. Should fit most womens feet.

Und wenn im Herbst keine Sandalen mehr angesagt sind…. dann taugen sie auch als Pulswärmer. 😉

And when the season for sandals is over… no problem thy make wristlets in autumn and winter. 😉

Sneaker Sock

Ja, ich weiß, das wird allmählich ein Strick-Blog…

Yes, I know, that seems to become a knitting blog…

Nach diesen Füßlingen war natürlich noch jeden Menge Garn übrig, also dachte ich mir, für Sneaker Socken sollte es reichen. Sicherheitshalber mit Lochmuster auf dem Fuß. Nicht nur, weil es luftiger ist für den Sommer, auch weil es Garn spart…

Sneaker SockeAfter I made these liners I had a lot of yarn left. So I thought a pair of ultra short sneaker socks should be makable. with a net-pattern, to make them more breezy but also because that saves yarn.

Operation gelungen, Socke paßt.

Ein bißchen Garn ist noch da. Ob das noch für Sandalensocken reicht…?

Mission accomplished, socks fit.

Pattern mystery

Ich gestehe ja, mit selbstmusternder Sockenwolle habe ich es nicht so. Streifen, gut, das funktioniert. Aber diese anderen Jacquard-artigen Muster… funktionieren eh nur, wenn man genau die richtige Maschenzahl pro Runde braucht. (Was nie eine ist, mit der ich was anfangen kann) und natürlich bitte auch keinen Zwickel stricken, das ändert die Maschenzahl, ganz schlecht.

SockensohlenI admit self patterning sock wool is not my favorite. Stripes work all right, but those intarsia like effects… they only work with the right number of stitches per round (Which never is one that fits me) and don’t knit a gusset, that would change the stitch count. Bad, very bad…

Die linke Sockensohle zeigt also das von mir gewohnte Muster: Keines. Oben im Bild die Spitze und die Ferse lassen erahnen, daß es bei anderer Maschenzahl tatsächlich ein Muster geben könnte.

Left in the picture the first sock. This sole show the pattern I get usually: no pattern. The toe on top and the heel on the bottom of the pic where the number of stitches is different give a hint that under the right conditions a pattern could appear.

Überraschend dann aber die rechte Socke. Gleiche Maschenzahl, gleiche Nadelstärke, die Socken sind auch gleich weit…aber an einigen der Streifen zeigt sich eine Art Muster. Aber nicht an allen.

Das erkläre mir mal einer…

But the real surprise is the right sock. Same number of stitches, same needle size, same width of the sock… but some of the stripes show a kind of pattern. But not all.

Now explain that…

Die Spannung hat ein Ende

It’s blocked!

DakshinaChitra Shrug… der Shrug ist gespannt.

Druck ist doch was praktisches… nächste Woche will ich das Teil mitnehmen. Beim Spannen habe ich dann noch gesehen, daß ich da noch unvernähte bzw. unabgeschnittene Fäden habe. Aber das läßt sich ja noch korrigieren.

Jetzt brauche ich nur noch kleine Plastikdruckknöpfe (ich frage mich schon seit vielen Jahre, wozu man die wohl brauchen könnte…), denn ich will es sowohl als Stola als auch als Ärmelschal tragen können. Mal sehen, ob das so funktioniert, wie ich mir das vorstellen.

Being under pressure isn’t bad for me. I need it in about one week so it got blocked. While doing so I discovered some uncut thread, but that can be corrected.

Next thing is buying tiny plastic snaps (and I’ve wondered for years what they might be good for) because I will be able to use it as shawl and as shrug. We’ll see whether that works out as expected.

(Ganz hinten sieht man übrigens schon die Maschenprobe für die nächste Stola gespannt…)

More summer socks

SockeEin weiteres Paar Schuhe, das Probleme bereitet. Hier ist es die Ferse, die innen schön fest und stabil gearbeitet ist. Leider auch mit einer reibenden Kante.

Another pair of shoes that give me trouble. The heel has a kind of stiffening inside which gives stability. But also an edge that scratches the foot.

Und die Socken die man dafür kaufen kann sind extra flach an der Ferse, damit man sie nicht sieht. Was schön ist nur nicht nützlich, denn so gibt es trotzdem Blasen.

Of course there are liners you can purchase, but they are very low at the heel, so they remain invisible. Looking nice, but not useful, because the blister will happen above the liner.

Also suchte ich mir ein Sockengarn mit Baumwolle (was gar nicht so einfach ist) und noch dazu in einer Farbstellung, die wenigstens ungefähr zum Schuh paßt (noch schwieriger), denn die Ferse wird sichtbar bleiben. Aber das Experiment ist gelungen, ich brauchte auch nur drei Socken zu stricken, um ein passendes Paar zu bekommen. 😉 Das Muster das die Wolle macht begeistert mich nicht wirklich, aber man sieht ja nicht viel davon…

So I searched cotton sock yarn (not so easy) and then in a color that at least approximately fits the color of the shoes (even more difficult), because the heel remains visible. But the experiment went fine and I only had to knit three socks to make a fitting pair. 😉 I son’t like the pattern the yarn creates to much, but there is not much visible…

Breezy sandal liners

Nachdem sich meine Füßlinge im Praxistest bewährt haben, brauche ich noch mehr davon und nachdem es dann wirklich heiß war, versuchte ich mich an einer luftigeren Variante.

Wer noch 15g Garn für einen Versuch übrig hat, kann hier die Anleitung finden.

My sandal liners were useful so I need more of that kind. Since it was really hot then I tried a more breezy version.

If you have 15g of yarn left, you can try yourself.

Ich hänge wieder an der Nadel!

Back to the neeldes!

ShrugDonnerstag kam ich endlich wieder in die Maschenkunst um meine Nadel auszutauschen. Dummerweise waren die langen Spitzen in der passenden Stärke gerade aus. 🙁

Thursday I found the time to go to my LYS to exchange the tip. Only the right size wasn’t available. 🙁

Aber Daniela hat mir eine andere reklamierte Spitze gegeben, denn ich will ja weiterstricken. Die hat auch einen kleinen Grat, aber besser als meine Nadel. Außerdem ist im Moment fast alles besser als nicht weiterstricken…

Wie man sieht ist der Schal nämlich schon sehr weit fortgeschritten und ich will ihn für diesen Sommer. (So ich ihn nicht schon wieder verpaßt habe…)

But then Daniela got out another tip in the right size that she had exchanged from someone else. This one is not completely smooth either, but I want to knit on and its even better than my old one.

As the pic shows is the shawl already quite well in progress and I want it for this summer. (If I haven’t already missed it…)

Stopped by the circumstances

Meine Testerei hat ja schon zu einem fleißigen Stricken an einem Ärmelschal geführt, die ich gerne diesen Spätsommer noch tragen würde.

My swatching did already lead to a good part of a shrug, because I*d like to wear it at least at the end oft this summer.

Nur habe ich bei dem dünnen Garn gemerkt, daß meine KnitPro Spitzen in Stärke 3mm einen Spalt zwischen Metall und Holz hatten, wo das Garn festklemmte. Also war ich Freitag bei meinem freundlichen Wolladen und bekam die Spitze auch umgetauscht. Nur wußte ich die Stärke nicht mehr genau, also hat Daniela mit dem KnitPro Maß nachgemessen und festgestellt, es muß wohl 3,25 sein und hat sie so ausgetauscht.

Zuhause habe ich nachgeguckt und auf der Packung stand 3mm. Hm. Und beim Stricken fühlte es sich auch irgendwie… falsch an. Also habe ich mal das „echte Werkzeug“ geholt, die Schieblehre.

But knitting with that fine yarn I found out that my KnitPro tips have a gap between wood and metal that catches the yarn. So on friday I went to my friendly LYS where Daniela was very willing to change the tips. Since I wasn’t sure what size the tips were. So she measured with the KnitPro gauge and decided it was 3,25mm and gave me a 3,25mm tip as replacement.

At home I checked the empty package which said 3mm. Hm. And knitting with it felt somehow…. wrong. So I got out the „real tool“, a Vernier caliper.

Und siehe da, die alte Nadel ist auch 3mm und die ausgetauschte 3,25mm. Das Maß von KnitPro ist wohl nicht ganz exakt. Jetzt kann ich nicht weiterstricken, bis ich wieder zum Laden komme. *grr*

(Zum Trost habe ich Socken angeschlagen…)

Result: the old one is indeed 3mm, the new one 3,25mm. The KnitPro gauge is a tiny bit off. So I can’t knit on until I’ll make it to the shop someday next week. *grr*
