Rainbowcrocodile

RegenbogenkrokodilAuch wenn es vielleicht gerade so aussieht… ich lese nicht nur, ich werkle auch noch, zumindest ein bißchen.

IRgenwie war vor Weihnachten mehr Stricken angesagt, aber ich bin nicht dazu gekommen, alles zu zeigen.

Diese Mütze mit Krokodle war auch ein Geschenk, aber nicht für Weihnachten.

Und da ich die Anleitung selber gemacht habe, kann ich sie hier auch zu Verfügung stellen: Anleitung zur Mütze „Regebogenkrokodil“ als pdf.

It might look as if I only was reading, but I am also doing things. Only I am mostly knitting at the moment and with christmas approaching I cannot show most of the things before december, 25th.

But this beanie with crocodiles is a gift, but not for christmas, so I can show it now.

Needlestatistics 2009

Weniger als die Anzahl der „geschafften“ Sachen interessiert mich, wie häufig ich eigentlich Schnitte und Anleitungen aus welcher Quelle benutze. Deswegen stelle ich das mal für die Sachen zusammen, die ich 2009 fertig gestellt habe und im Blog vorgestellt. (Da wird vermutlich ein wenig Kleinkram fehlen, aber für eine Tendenz reicht es.) Bei veränderten Schnitten nehme ich den, der ursprünglich mal zu Grunde lag, auch wenn der nicht mehr erkennbar sein sollte.

I am less concerned about the question how may things I made, but I’m curious which patterns I am using most, so I make a little statistic about all items I finished this year and blogged about. (Some minor things will be lost that way, but that’s not so important for my purpose.) If I altered patterns to an extend where the original pattern wasn’t recognizable I will still „count“ the source of the pattern basic.

Another Christmas present

SeifensäckchenNoch ein Weihnachtsgeschenk habe ich genadelt und kann es nun zeigen.

Für die Freundin meines Bruders wollte ich noch eine Kleinigkeit machen und da kam mir 1-Knäuel Ideen zum Häkeln gerade recht. Von Bärbel ist da nämlich ein Set aus Waschhandschuh und Seifensäckchen drin.

Da ich aus Indien noch eine original Mysore Sandal Soap hatte kam mir das Seifensäckchen gerade recht.

Ich habe einen Rest Katia „Linen“ genommen und noch einen glitzernden Faden mitlaufen lassen, den ich auch noch hatte. (Das sieht man auf dem Bild leider gar nicht.) Verbrauch war etwa 23m oder 10g, gebraucht habe ich etwa 1,5 Stunden.

Da mein Garn dünner als das angegebene im Buch war habe ich statt 8 Runden 12 gehäkelt, was nicht weiter schwierig war. Nur wie bei dem Gittermuster die Runden jeweils geschlossen werden fand ich etwas mysteriös und die Anleitung nicht so ganz klar. Aber irgendwie hat es geklappt. (Weitere Details auf Ravelry.)

Jedenfalls ein schnelles Projekt für einen kleinen Rest. Und es glitzert ganz edel, nur nicht auf dem Photo.

(Daß es mich eine Häkelnadel gekostet hat hatte ich ja schon geschrieben.)

There is another gift I can show now christmas is over. I wanted to make something small for my brothers girlfriend. I remembered the book about one skein crocheting ideas and found the soap saver from Bärbel, Since I also stil had a Mysore Sandal Soap from India this was perfect.

I used a restover „Linen“ from Katia together with another very fine glittering thread I found in my stash. (Which does not show at all on the pic.) It took about 23m/10g of yarn and about 1.5 hours to make.

Since my yarn ist thinner than the suggested one I made 12 rounds instead of 8, that was not a problem. (For more details you can check on Ravelry.)

Finally a quick and small project that was easily finished in time for christmas.

Quick hat (Tychus) or christmas presents revealed part 2

Ein weiteres Geschenk kann ich jetzt endlich zeigen. Ich hatte ja die Socken für meine Bruder schon fertig gehäkelt, da war ich mal wieder Zuhause und er hielt mir seine mottenangenagte Mütze unter die Nase. Das kann eine gute Schwester natürlich nicht zulassen, daß der „Kleine“ im Winter am Kopf friert.

Another gift I can show now Christmas is over. After I had finished the crocheted socks for my brother I was home for a weekend and there my brother showed mit his motheaten hat. A good sister can not let her brother be cold at his head in the winter.

Also habe ich das Internet nach einer passenden Anleitung für dicke Wolle durchsucht, denn das mußte dann doch etwas schneller gehen. Bei Knitty wurde ich wie schon öfter fündig, Tychus hatte mir schon immer gefallen, weil mit unheimlich einfachen Mitteln ein richtiger Hingucker erzielt wird. Außerdem ist die Mütze so dehnbar, daß sie fast auf jeden Kopf passt und den Rand kann man mehr oder weniger hochkrempeln, wie man es eben mag.

So I searched the internet for a pattern that could be done quickly with bulky wool. Again Knitty provided me what I wanted, I had always liked Tychus because the pattern is super easy to do but creates a great effect. Also the hat stretches a lot and will fit any head. And you can roll up the brim as much as you want.

Mütze TychusEtwas verwirrend ist die Materialangabe, ich habe letztlich aber dickeres Garn gekauft und mit den geforderten 5,5er Nadeln gestrickt, auch wenn die Garnbanderole 6-7 empfiehlt. Gedifra „Extra Soft Merino Grande“ in grau und Schachenmayr nomotta „Joana“ in blau habe ich in der Maschenkunst gefunden. Gestrickt hat es ich schnell und quasi idiotensicher in zwei Abenden auf dem Sofa. Nur der Verbrauch ist etwas blöd, genau ein Knäuel grau und ein Knäuel und ungefähr drei Meter in blau… Was mache ich jetzt mit ungefähr 57m in einem dicken blauen Garn?

What was not too clear in the instructions is which yarn to choose. In the end I took a bulky one that stated to use needles 6mm-7mm and used 5.5mm needles as the pattern wants. Gedifra „Extra Soft Merino Grande“ in grey and Schachenmayr nomotta „Joana“ in blue I picked at Maschenkunst. The hat did knit up very quickly in two evenings in front of the TV, not chance to make any mistake, it’s super easy. Only the amount of yarn used is not perfekt. I needed one ball of the grey one (one meter left) and one ball plus about three meters of the blue one… So anly ideas what to do with about 57m of bulky blue yarn?

(Socks on hooks or Christmas present revealed)

Da die Weihnachtsgeschenke jetzt alle geöffnet sind, kann ich auch das eine oder andere selbstgemachte nachtragen. Auf Ravelry ist dies hier schon länger zu finden, denn da hat mein Bruder keinen Account, aber im Blog weiß man ja nie…

Meinen jüngsten Bruder hatte ich ja vor zwei Jahren mit den galaktischen Weihnachtssocken beglückt, nur haben die nicht sehr lange gehalten. Da er meiner Aufforderung, sie mir zum Stopfen zu übergeben, bislang nicht nachgekommen war, hat er wohl kein weiteres Paar, also mußte ich Abhilfe schaffen.

Häkelsocke für BruderDa Häkelsocken etwas fester und dicker sind als Stricksocken, habe ich es diesmal mit der Technik versucht. Und diesmal nicht mit vernünftigem Regia Garn, das andere Modell war Trekking von Zitron und da ist ein Paar von meinem Mann ebenfalls ganz schnell durchgewesen. Das nie wieder. Danke.

Die Anleitung ist wieder die rungehäkelte Basissocke nach dem Buch Gehäkelte Trend-Socken von Bärbel Born, als Garn habe ich 60g Regia Color aus Restbeständen verbraucht und damit das „Bunt“ etwas gemäßigt wird wird noch 40g Regia Natural Look in einem warmen Grauton dazugenommen. (Letzteres kam aus der Maschenkunst in Köln.) Gebraucht habe ich so nebenherhäkelnd zwei Wochen, geht also recht zügig.

(Und eine kleine Änderung beim Beginn der Ferse habe ich gemacht, damit die „Naht“ die man durch das Ringelmuster ja immer sieht, jeweils zum Knöchel hin getragen werden kann.)

Since everyone should have opened his or her christmas gift by now I can put up the things I’ve made since october. The facts about this socks are already on ravelry so here the short version: Two years ago my brother got those galaktischen Weihnachtssocken for Christmas. Only they wore through very quickly. He never gave them to me for repair so I assumed that he needed another pair to wear first.

Since I wanted more stability I opted for crocheted socks instead of knitted one this time. And I used Regia yarn, the other ones were Trekking from Zitron which I will never use again. (One pair of my husbands socks made of that yarn were also „walked through“ in no time. Never again, thank you.)

Inzwischen habe ich auch Rückmeldung über die Paßform, zwei Reihen kürzer im Mittelteil meinte er und dafür die Spitze weniger spitz. Sollte ich ihm noch mal welche häkeln, werde ich mehr Maschen anschlagen, die Socken sind wirklich relativ spitz vorne, das ist mir an meinen auch aufgefallen. Was besser paßt hängt vermutlich von der Fußform ab.

Meanwhile I got feedback about the fit. Two rows shorter would be better and the toes are to pointy. Should I crochet another pari for my brother they’ll be shorter and I’ll start with more stitches. For me also they were quite pointy at the toes. Probably it depends on the shape of the feet what fits better.

Growing Shetland-Shawl

Wenn es mit dem Nähen bei mir derzeit schon kaum voran geht… immerhin stricke ich.

StolaAt least I am knitting (not much sewing progress on the other side.)

Meine vielen Maschenproben haben inzwischen auch zu einer Stola geführt. Nach meiner Berechnung brauche ich 63 Rapporte statt der 48 in der Anleitung angegebenen (irgendwie sind meine Maschen kürzer, als „normal“) und davon habe ich etwas über die Hälfte. Und gerade das zweite Knäuel angefangen.

Das sollte also hinkommen, denn ich habe etwa 10g für die Maschenproben gebraucht und am Ende kommt auch noch ein Rand dran.

All my swatching is making it into a shawl. I calculated that I will need 63 repeats of the pattern instead of 48 (my stitches are evidently „shorter“ that they „normally“ should) and I have a bit more than half of that. Since I just started the second skein this should be allright.

The swatches took me about 10g of yarn and after the shetland pattern there will be a border to knit. (If you want more detailed weekly updates you can follow my progress on Ravelry.)

… hatte ich optimistisch vor dem 3. Advent in der Maschenkunst gewünscht, denn ich war mir sicher, für dieses Jahr habe ich genug unfertige Projekte.

„Merry Christmas“ I said when I left Maschenkunst two days before the third advent. Because I was absolutely sure I had enough running project for the rest of this year.

Habe ich auch, aber ich mußte noch schnell ein Geschenk machen (aus Altbeständen) und das hatte Folgen…

So far this is true, but I wanted to make a gift (from stash) and that had unexpected results…

Verbogene HäkelnadelNein, die Nadel habe ich nicht verbogen, das war die Notlösung.

Mein Holzhäkelnadel, nur wenige Wochen alt, hat eine Kettmaschen nicht überlebt. Dabei häkle ich nicht sehr fest, nur das Leinengarn ist wohl doch recht fest und die Häkelei etwas fitzelig am Anfang.

Jetzt hoffe ich mal, daß ich sie auch ohne Kassenzettel umtauschen kann, den habe ich nicht mehr.

No, I did not bend the hook, this was the solution, not the problem.

But my Knit Pro crochet hook (wood) which I purchased only in september or october broke. I’m more a loose crocheter but the linen yarn and chainstitch do not seem to like each other.

Now I hope that I’ll get the hook replace without my cash ticket, I hadn’t kept that, I hadn’t expected the hook to brake.

Nur solle das Geschenk fertig werden, also ging ich in meinen Beständen wühlen, aber das einzige was ich in 3,5 noch fand war dieses verbogene Exemplar meiner verstorbenen Schwiegermutter.

Einkaufsliste: Holznadel umtauschen, Metallnadel in 3,5 kaufen. Und die Holznadel nur noch für Wolle verwenden…

But I absolutely wanted to finish the gift so I searched what I had but the only 3.5mm crochet hook I have is this completely bent specimen from my late MIL.

Shoppinglist: Exchange wooden hook, buy a 3.5mm metall hook and use the wooden hook only for woolen yarn..

Socks with hooks

Nachdem Bärbel mir ja schon die ganze Zeit was vorgehäkelt hat mußte ich es einfach mal probieren… Nur um zu sehen, ob es geht…

gehäkelte SockenSocken häkeln. Und tatsächlich, es funktioniert und man kann sie sogar anziehen.

Since Bärbel did it all the time I finally couldn’t resist and had to try it myself. Just to find out whether it works.

Crocheted sock. And indeed, it works and I can even wear them.

Natürlich habe ich mir auch Bärbels Buch Gehäkelte Trend-Socken vorgenommen. Nicht nur verschiedene Sockenmodelle sind drin, sondern auch schlichte Grundanleitungen. Ich habe die Grundanleitung für die „rundgehäkelte Socke“ genommen.

Of course I used Bärbels Book Gehäkelte Trend-Socken. there are not only different fancy socks but also basic instructions you can use in any size. I used the instructions for „rundgehäkelte Socke“. (Bärbel has it on ravelry as „Basic Socks“.)

Und habe einfach der Anleitung gemäß gearbeitet. Hinten im Buch ist nämlich eine Lasche mit übersichtlichen Maschen- und Zentimeterangaben für verschiedene Größen. (Und ein aufgedrucktes Zentimetermaß ist ebenfalls nützlich, so mußte ich mein Bandmaß nicht auspacken.)

I had never crocheted socks before so I just made my way through the instructions. That worked well, there were only two things that irritated me a bit on my way. One was forming the heel, I had the knitted heel in mind so I ignored the instructions about distributing the added stitches. That looks a bit funny now, but when I’m wearing it it works well anyhow.

Die Anleitung funktionierte sehr gut, ich konnte mich einfach „entlanghäkeln“. Irritiert war ich nur zwei Mal, einmal bei der Ferse, so ich die Zunahmen erst mal ungeschickt verteilt habe. Ich hatte die Strickferse im Kopf und verstand daher nicht, warum ich die Zunahmen verteilen soll. Und habe es daher auch nicht wirklich gemacht. Naja, man häkelt erst mal einen relativ flachen Teller, also muß man die Zunahmen verteilen. Tut man es nicht, sieht die Socke zwar etwas seltsam aus, beim Tragen ist es dann aber egal.

Der zweite Punkt war der Übergang zum Schaft, da heißt es nämlich, man soll die Abnahme wie bei der Nahtsocke machen. Dann mußte ich mir das erst mal durchlesen (hatte ich nicht vor gehabt) und es brauchte etwas Vorstellungsvermügen, wie das bei der Rundsocke geht. Aber ich habe es rausgefunden. 🙂

The second point were the decreases at the shaft. Here the instructions tell you to check at the sewn sock pattern. So I had to read that and figure out, because the other pattern is not in the round, so I needed some imagination. But I managed. 🙂

Die Socken sind elastischer als ich erwartet hatte und tragen sich gut. Etwas rauher finde ich, als gestrickte. Und jetzt sind sie in der Wäsche…

(Ach ja, Wolle ist Regia Arctic Colour aus der Maschenkunst.)

Result: The socks are more elastic than I had expected and they wear well. A bit rougher than knitted one I’d say. And now they are in the laundry…
