Fluffy and soft

Im Entstehen habt ihr diese Tunika ja schon oft gesehen, aber jetzt gibt es endlich auch fertige Tragebilder. Wobei gestrickt war sie für meine Verhältnisse ja fast schnell (also deutlich kürzer als ein Jahr…), das Photo machen hat dann aber noch mal so lange gedauert.

You’ve already seen this tunic in statu nascendi, but now finally pictures of the finished garment. Knitting was relatively fast (means it took me less than a year….), taking the picture took even longer.

Das Garn ist ein Mohair-Seide Gemisch von Les Fermes Mohair de France. Das ist eine Kooperation von Haltern von Mohairziegen in Frankreich, die ihre Wolle zusammengenommen zum Spinnen und Färben geben und dann eine entsprechende Menge Garn zurück bekommen. So kann mit Maschinen gearbeitet werden und “normales” Garn zu einem angemessenen Preis verkauft werden. Vermarktet wird das Garn nur von den jeweiligen Produzenten der Wolle, entweder im Hofverkauf oder auch auf Märkten und Messen. Ich hatte mir da vor über zehn Jahren im Urlaub sechs Knäuel gekauft. Mehr ging nicht, da sie nur Bargeld nahmen und ich nicht mehr dabei hatte. Außerdem wollte ich ein Tuch stricken, dafür hätte es gereicht.

The yarn is a mohair Silk blend by Les Fermes Mohair de France. This is a cooperation of farms who have mohair goats. They collect the fiber from all farms and give it to companies to process it (spinning and dyeing). Then each farm gets a certain amount of yarn back, depending on the amount of fiber they had added. So the processing can be done in an industrial way and allows a “normal” yarn for a still affordable price. You can only buy it from the producing farms, either directly on the farm or sometimes on markets or fairs. I got myself six skeins while on holiday more than ten years ago. I could not buy more, because they only took cash and that was all I had. Besides I planned to make a shawl and it would have been enough for that.

Je länger das Garn aber bei mir lag, desto klarer wurde mir, daß das Garn ein Oberteil werden will. Ein eher weites. Und dafür waren sechs Knäuel zu 25g dann etwas wenig. Zumal in meiner Größe.

The longer the yarn stayed with me the clearer it became that it wanted to become a top. With a flared hem. And for that six skeins, 25g each were not enough. Especially not in my size.

Über die Jahre legte ich das Garn immer mal von links nach rechts, überlegte, ob ich durch die Verwendung von Lochmuster es ausreichend “strecken” könnte… und strickte andere Projekte. Bis ich das erste Mal bei Aiguille en Fête in  Paris war und mich vorher durch das Ausstellerverzeichnis gearbeitet hatte. Da gab es nämlich einen Anbieter für das Garn und ich fand ein farblich dazu passendes. (Die gleiche Farbe wollte ich gar nicht versuchen, denn nach zehn Jahren ist die Färbung sicher nicht identisch.) Außerdem hat das Garn inzwischen Namen, diese Mischung in der Stärke heißt “Diva”.

Over the year the yarn was put from side to side, I wondered if I could “stretch” it enough using lace pattern… and knitted other projects. Until I went for the first time to Aiguille an Fête a few years ago. I had checked the exihibitors list before and so I had seen that someone was offering that “brand”. So I choose a complementary color. (I had not even tried the same color, it would never have been identical after all those years.) I also found out the yarn has now a name, “Diva”.

Gestrickt habe ich dann nach der “Raglan von oben” Technik aus dem alten Buch von Barbara Walker. Man fängt oben an und strickt dann in Runden. Der V-Ausschnitt hat vorne ein Lace-Muster und zum Saum und den Ärmelsäumen gibt es dann auch einen Farbübergang zu dem brauen Garn. Außerdem gibt es noch einige Lochmusterreihen und Einsätze längs, die aber nicht so viel Garn gespart haben, wie ich gedacht hatte. Im Ganzen brauchte ich dann etwa 7,75 Knäuel, die Tunika wiegt also weniger als 200g.

I did not use a real pattern, I used Barbara Walker’s instructions for a raglan sweater, starting from the neck band and knitting downwards in the round. The V-neckline has a lace pattern and I also made lace insets lenghtwise to safe yarn. In the end I think these did not really safe yarn. After the brown neckband the sweater is red, with gradually mixing it brown and ending with brown hem and sleeve hems. All in all I needed less than 8 skeins, so the whole tunic weights less than 200g!

Ich mag das Ergebnis sehr, nur habe ich dummerweise zwischen dem Beginn des Strickens und der Fertigstellung ungeplant 10 kg abgenommen, so daß der V-Ausschnitt dann extrem tief war. Ich habe erst mal ein paar Zentimeter zusammen genäht, wenn ich mir die Bilder aber so ansehe, habe ich immer noch die Tendenz, das Teil nach hinten zu ziehen. Da werde ich also vorne noch mal sechs Zentimeter schließen…

I like the result a lot. Just… while knitting it I lost (not planned) 10 kg, so the deep V-neck became a too deep V-neck. So I’ve sewn it closed over several rows. While watching the pictures I have to admit that I still have a tendency to pull the top to the back to control the neckline. So I guess I should add a few more stitches to the front neckline…

Sonst trägt sie sich aber prima, wie ich seit kurzem weiß. Denn… ich mußte mir erst mal eine braune Hose nähen… Braun ist eine Farbe, die ich nicht immer im Schrank habe. Ab Herbst werde ich Oberteil und Hose aber hoffentlich oft tragen. 🙂

Otherwise it wears great. I only found out recently, because before I could wear it I had to sew a pair of brown pants. Brown is a color I do not always have included in my wardrobe. But in autumn I will wear both pieces a lot. 🙂

(Und ja, es WAR windig, als ich die Bilder gemacht habe. Und meine Haare hatten gerade einen Tag mit viel Eigenleben…)
