65 HäkelhexagonsAuch von meinen Häkelgrannies gibt es mal wieder ein Update.

Time for an Update from my granny hexagons.

Ich habe ja ständig an anderen Sachen gearbeitet und die Häkelei beiseite gelegt, aber inzwischen habe ich 65 Hexagons. Wenn ich in dem Tempo weiter arbeite, habe ich im Februar 2015 genug Hexagons, um die Decke daraus zu machen.

Since I was either travelling or had other, more urgent projects there was not much time left for this crochet project. But I managed to get 65 hexagons done. If I go on at that speed it will be February 2015 until I’ll have enough to make the plaid.

StolaKann sich noch jemand an meine letzte blaue Stola erinnern? Ja, auch die ist aus Silk Mohair von Artyarns und das Garn ist aus der Maschenkunst, aber es ist ein anderes hellblau… 😀

Does anyone remember this blue shawl? Yes, this is also Silk Mohair from Artyarns and was puchased at the Maschenkunst. But it is a different shade of light blue… 😀

Angefangen habe ich damit Juni 2011. Also vor fast einem Jahr. Gestrickt habe ich dann bis November, aber erst im April wurde es gespannt. Was ziemlich schwierig war, denn das Teil ist länger als 2m. Damit länger als mein Bett. Und sogar länger als das Bettlaken, das ich als Unterlage zum Spannen verwende. Ich konnte also die Ecken nicht so stark ausspannen, wie es schön gewesen wäre. (Wie spannt ihr eigentlich Tücher, die länger als 2,20m sind?)

I’d started knitting June 2011, so nearly one year ago. It took my until November to finish knitting but then I had to wait until April to block it. Which was not easy, because it is longer than 2m and so longer than my bed where I normally block on. It is even longer then the bed sheet I normally put under the blocking item. So I could not block the edges as strong as I’d liked to do. (How do you block shawls that are longer than 2.20m?)

Lace DetailDanach war dann das Wetter naß und doof, so daß ich kein Photo machen konnte. Doch als ich kürzlich in Aachen beim Werksverkauf von Lindt war, fiel mein Blick auf dieses goldene Pferd, dem die Stola doch auch prima steht. Und ich durfte in der Ecke auch photographieren. 🙂

After that the weather was wet and stupid, so I could not take a pic. But when I recently was at the Lindt Outlet in Aachen I saw this golden horse which fits the shawl fell. And I got the permission to take a picture at that corner. 🙂

Das Muster ist jedenfalls “Stripes and Torchon Lace” aus Victorian Lace today und gefällt mir als fertige Stola gut.

Heavy shawl

Nach all den ätherische leichten Lace Stolen gab es zur Abwechslung mal was dickes, festes. Das Modell Pop block aus der winter bis 2011 knitty hatte es mir angetan. Gesehen habt ihr es ja schon auf einigen “Maschenkunst unterwegs” Bildern, aber jetzt sind nicht nur alle Fäden vernäht, sondern es war auch mal genug Sonne, um schnell ein Bild machen zu können.

Pop blockAfter all those light and airy lace stoles I made this more substantial wrap. I had liked Pop block from the winter bis 2011 knitty immediately so I had to knit it. You’ve already seen it on the “Maschenkunst unterwegs” pictures but now it is finished, all thread ends woven and I managed to get a ray of sun to take pictures.

Leider hatte ich in der Maschenkunst kein merhfarbiges Garn gefunden, das so dick war wie in der Anleitung angegeben und das mir gefiel, also habe ich mir drei Zauberbälle Stärke 6 von Schoppe Wolle geholt (Farbe Charisma) und mit 3,5er Nadeln gearbeitet. Dadurch mußte ich auch deutlich mehr Maschen (nämlich 100) anschlagen und auch etliche Reihen mehr stricken. Was nicht schwierig war, aber sehr, sehr langweilig….

I didn’t find a yarn in the right weight I did like at Maschenkunst, so I settled myself with 3 skeins of Schoppel Wolle “Zauberball Stärke 6” in the absolutely adorable color “Charisma”. I had to use 3.5mm needles and therefor needed more stitches (100) and a lot more rows. Which was not difficult to do, but very, very boring….

Aber das Ergebnis entschädigt absolut. Die Stola gefällt mir nicht nur gut, sie hält auch warm, sowohl auf dem Sofa als auch über dem Mantel. Als Schal direkt auf der Haut würde ich das Garn nicht empfehlen, dafür ist es doch ein bißchen arg kratzig.

But the result is worth it! I like the drape and the color of the wrap and it keeps me worm, either on the sofa or over a coat outside. Though I wouldn’t like it as a scarf directly against my skin, it’s a bit to itchy for that.

Grannies, erster Monat

Grannies, first month

Auf besonderen Wunsch einer einzelnen Dame gibt es heute schon ein erstes Fortschrittsbild meines Monumentalwerkes “Häkeldecke”.

Ich arbeite immer zehn Hexagons vom gleichen Muster in der gleichen Farbfolge. Die Größe gleich zu halten ist echt eine Herausvorderung, weil ich mit der kleineren Häkelnadel außerden viel fester häkeln muß. Eines habe ich auch versiebt, aber gut… ich hoffe, ich finde da rein.

I’m working ten hexagons of each motif in each color pattern. Keeping them mostly the same size isn’t easy. It is not enough to take a smaller hook, I also have to crochet tighter. So the first of that pattern is much to big… well, I hope I’ll get used to it.

Zwei “Päckchen” sind fertig, im ganzen sind es 28 Hexagons im ersten Monat. Die Fäden vernähe ich jeweils gleich (teilweise kann man sie auch gleich mit festhäkeln, aber wegen der vielen Lücken im Muster geht das nicht überall), gebügelt wird am Schluß. Trotzdem habe ich mal ein paar nebeneinander ausgelegt um ein Gefühl dafür zu bekommen, wie viele ich brauchen werde. Ganz grob über den Daumen schätze ich 350 bis 400, was hochgerechnet eineinhalb bis zwei Jahre dauern wird. Vermutlich eher zwei Jahre bis… denn am Anfang ist man ja immer motivierter, dann sind es zu viele Knäuel um es auf längere Reisen mitzunehmen und da steht dieses Jahr schon mindestens einmal “Weitfortien” an… wird also Pausen geben.

I’ve finished two batches (à 10 hexagons) and I have a total of 28 hexagons. I am weaving the ends of each piece as soon as it is finished, but steaming will be at the end. And I did lay out some testwise to guess the number I’ll need. So my guesstimation is 350 – 400 hexagons and counting from this months progress the time it’ll need might be 18 – 24 month. More 2 years plus… I’m always more motivated in the beginning and then I know I will travel some time this year to “Farawayia” and this is not a good holiday project, it needs to many different skeins. So there will be some month(s) with very slow or no progress.

Will da wirklich jemand ein monatliches Update sehen? Oder doch lieber nur jährlich? Ich will ja niemanden zu sehr langweilen…

Is there really anyone who wants monthly updates on this project? Or better once a year? I don’t want to bore you too much…

Mono Grannies

Der eine oder andere mag sich schon gewundert haben, was die ganze Häkelei so soll. Der Grund ist einfach: Ich finde diese Häkeldecken im Patchwork Stil (neudeutsch “Granny Square” genannt) sehr schön. Kann mir aber so was buntes nicht in meinem Wohnzimmer vorstellen, denn das ist schon chaotisch genug. Aber… wo steht geschrieben, das so ein Ding bunt sein muß? Richtig, nirgendwo!

Some might have been a bit surprised that I was crocheting quite a bit. The reason is simple: I like Granny Square Plaids, but I can’t imagine to put something that colorful in my living room. Which is chaotic enough, even without a big thing with random colors. But… there is no law that they have to be multicolor, right?

Mono GranniesAlso habe ich schon vor geraumer Zeit angefangen, Wolle in creme und beige Tönen zu kaufen. Dazu habe ich gezielt bei Sonderangeboten nach Garnen Ausschau gehalten, die für Nadelstärke 3,5 – 4 ausgelegt waren und bin mit ein wenig Geduld in der Maschenkunst fündig geworden.

I’ve started to by wool on cream and beige quite some time ago. I picked them on sale and choose yarns that were specified for 3.5mm – 4.0mm needles/hooks. A bit of patience and I got them all in very good quality at Maschenkunst.

Die weiße katia “linen” ganz links hatte ich noch als recht großer Rest (gut 3,5 Knäuel), die war damals von WollArt. Dann habe ich “Morena” von Schachenmayr nomotta, 20 Knäuel in einem sehr hellen Ton, 6 Knäuel von ggh “Boulino”, 10 Knäuel von einem dunkleren Ton der “Morena” und 9 Knäuel ggh “Samoa”. Ich habe keine Ahnung, ob das Garn reicht und behalten mir auch vor, noch einen oder zwei Töne dazuzukaufen, aber die Riesentüte Garn geht mir im Schrank allmählich arg im Weg um und außerdem WILL ich endlich anfangen!

On the left is some “linen” by katia, here I had more than 3 skeins left over from another project (that is the only one that was purchased at WollArt). Next is “Morena” by Schachenmayr nomotta, I have 20 skeins in a very clear cream shade. Then 6 skeins “Boulino” by ggh, 10 skeins of a darker and variegated shade “Morena” and 9 skeins “Samoa”, also by ggh. I have not the slightest idea if that is enough yarn, and if something crosses my way I might buy one or two shades more, but the big bag with that yarn was getting in my way to often and also I finally WANT to start!

Die Motive habe ich mir aus dem Buch “Beyond the Square” zusammengesucht, die Probeläppchen habt ihr ja schon gesehen. Was mir gleich sehr gut gefiel war Motiv 30, das wollte ich unbedingt. Damit war klar, daß ich als Form keine Quadrate sondern Hexagons nehme und auch, daß das zweite Motiv (ich wollte wenigstens zwei verschiedene Motive) die gleiche Größen haben müßte. Besonders der zweite Punkt war nicht ganz einfach. Letztlich habe ich Motiv 54 genommen, allerdings nur die ersten vier Runden. Danach mit festen Maschen abschließen. Und außerdem arbeite ich Motiv 30 mit einer 4mm Nadel und Motiv 54 mit einer 3,5mm Häkelnadel. Damit klappt es.

I picked the motifs from the book “Beyond the Square”. You did see the testing motifs in the blog already. The one I liked instantly was motif 30, I absolutely wanted to use it. So it was decided it would be hexagons, not squares and also which size the second motif was supposed to have. (I wanted at least tow different pattern.) Especially the thing with the size was not so easy. In the end I choose motif 54, but only round 1-4 of the pattern. The finishing with sc. Also I am working motif 30 with a hook in size G and motif 54 with a smaller one in size E. So I get them both the right size.

Wie viele Patches ich im ganzen brauche vermag ich nicht abzuschätzen. (Oder will es nicht wissen, weil die Anzahl zu frustrierend wäre…) Ich nadel halt jetzt mal los und in einigen Jahren ist dann hoffentlich eine Decke fertig…

I cannot even guess how many hexagons I will need (or maybe I do not want to calculate, the number might be too frustrating..). I am starting now, crocheting on and on and in some years from here I hope to end with a plaid…

Fetching

Vor grauer Vorzeit, als der weltweite Stricktag noch ein Stricktag und nicht eine unverbindliche Strickwoche war, da gab es in der Maschenkunst für jeden angemeldeten Stricker ein Knäuelchen Wolle. Und so lag seit 2008 ein Knäuel “Scotch Tweed” von katia auf meinem Schreibtisch und wartete auf das passende Muster. Problem war die extrem kurze Lauflänge, die eigentlich für nichts richtig reichte, nicht mal für eine Mütze. (Und als ich mal so weit war, daß ich mir dachte, eine Mütze wäre nett, da gab es das Garn schon nicht mehr.)

Long, long ago, when WWKIP Day was still a WWKIP day and not a week, I was at Maschenkunst and all who registered before got a nice skein of wool as a gift. So since 2008 a Skein of “Scotch Tweed” by katia was sitting on my desk, waiting to be knit. The problem was that it is relatively heavy, so 50g don’t go very far. And it wasn’t enough for anything, not even a had. (And when I had decided I liked a hat the yarn wasn’t available any longer.

Handschuh FetchingBis Isabelle in ihrem Blog Fetching aus der Knitty erwähnte. Und ich in dem Überraschungspaket von WEBS ein lila Knäuel Noro “Retro” fand. Das sollte reichen.

Until Isabelle mentioned Fetching from knitty in her blog. And I remembered a skein Noro “Retro” in lilac from my WEBS grab bag, that looked makeable.

Mit Nadel 3,75 los gelegt, dann nachdem ich fast mit einer Stulpe fertig war, habe ich den Rest des Knäuels gewogen und mir überlegt, daß es doch netter aussähe, wenn ich unten und oben einen schmaleren Streifen lila hätte, statt nur oben einen breiten.

Also alles aufgezogen und noch mal. Ich war trotzdem nach sieben Tagen fertig, inklusive der Zeit, wo sie rum lagen und auf das Vernähen der Fäden warteten. 😉

I started with needles 3.75 mm and nearly finished one wristwarmer. Then I checked how much of the skein was left and decided then, that a small border in Noro at the beginning and the end would be nicer than just one larger block at the top.

So I frogged everything and started again. Even though they were finished after seven days, including the time they were laying around, waiting for the yarn ends to be woven in. 😉

Wristwarmer FetchingUnd weil das ganze so schnell ging und so viel Spaß gemacht hat, habe ich mir noch ein Knäuel “Super Aussi” Merino Wolle von Queensland Collection (auch aus der WEBS Grab bag) geschnappt und noch welche gestrickt.

Die sind superweich und kuschelig, so weich hat sich das Garn auf dem Knäuel gar nicht angefühlt… schöne Überraschung! (Auch für die neue Besitzerin… 🙂 )

And since it was so much fun and went so quickly I made another pair from one skein “Super Aussi” by Queensland Collection. Another yarn from the grab bag from WEBS.

These merino warmers are so supersoft and cuddly, softer than the yarn did feel on the skein… beautiful surprise! (Also for the new owner… 🙂 )

Dark Glam

Ich hatte mal wieder fast ein ganzen Knäuel Wolle von Tortora übrig und Lust auf noch eine graue Mütze. Es schwebte mir was leichtes vor, lässig und eher slouchy, mehr für die Übergangszeit als für den Winter. Und nachdem ich das angefangene Knäuel, das natürlich nicht mehr genug für eine Mütze war, einige Wochen auf dem Schreibtisch ständig vor meiner Nase hatte machte es “Pling”.

Again I had a nearly whole skein yarn left over (from Tortora) and I felt like yet another grey hat. I wanted something airy, slouchy, nor really for winter but for cool autumn and spring days. The “I am not enough for another hat” skein sat on my desk for some weeks and while I was staring at it nearly every day the inspiration hit me.

Slouch/ Mütze Dark GlamIch hatte doch noch einen Rest Lace Garn, auch Alpaka, in der gleichen Farbe! Und damit das grau nicht zu langweilig wird… da war doch noch der M30 Zierfaden von Alterfil in silber… steht nirgendwo, daß man mit Nähgarnen nicht auch stricken darf, oder? 🙂 (Die anderen beiden Garne, “Alpaca Andes” von katia und “Alpaca 1” von Isager gibt es bei der Maschenkunst. Daß die Farben so exakt passen ist natürlich Glück.)

Didn’t I have another left over in grey alpaca from a lace project? And since grey alone might be a little dull I dug into my sewing threads and came up with some metallic silver M30 Zierfaden by Alterfil. There is no law against knitting with sewing thread, isn’t it? (The other yarns, “Alpaca Andes” by katia and “Alpaca 1” by Isager can be purchased at Maschenkunst. That the colors match perfectly was a nice coincidence.

Slouch/ Mütze Dark GlamDann noch ein paar Abende mit einem Nadelspiel in 5,5 gearbeitet und fertig war die Mütze. Dichte und transparente Streifen wechseln sich ab, genau wie ich es wollte.

(Für Mützen sollte ich mir allerdings endlich mal ein Spiel mit langen Nadeln in der Stärke besorgen. Auf den kurzen war es doch etwas lästig…)

Add some evenings with a set of 5.5mm dpns and the hat was finished. Alternating dense and transparent stripes, exactely how I wanted it.

(Next time I’m knitting a hat with this needle size I should not forget to buy long dpns. Knitting the thick yarn on the short needles was not so nice.)

Maschenkunst unterwegs

Da Daniela es wieder geschafft hat, ihre Seite auf den aktuellen Stand zu bringen, schiebe ich wieder was nach. 😉

Diesmal war meine Socke (aus Socks’ Wool Lucca von Schewe von Karstadt und AlterfilS150) in Belgien unterwegs, in der Provinz Liège.

(Und die Maschenkunst in Form der Postkarte. 🙂 )

Since Daniela finally managed to update her site I can add more… 😉

This time my sock (made of Socks’ Wool Lucca by Schewe, purchased at Karstadt and AlterfilS150) did travel to the province of Liège in Belgium.

(And Maschenkunst was allowed to share the event as a postcard. 🙂 )

Meisenalarm in der Maschenkunst!

“Bird”alarm at Maschenkunst! (Sorry, that translates badly…)

Regelmäßige Leser(innen) des Maschenkunst Blogs wissen es ja schon, ein Schwarm Wollmeisen ist eingeflogen und steht seit Dienstag zum Verkauf.

Wollmeise in der Maschenkunst100kg hat Daniela bekommen und das Bild zeigt, was heute am späten Nachmittag davon noch da war.

It might be necessary to explain something… “Meise” is a kind of a bird. “Wolle” is similar to English, means wool or yarn. And “Wollmeise” is a combination of both words and the brand of an indie wool dyer whose yarn is hard to get. She updates her shop only from time to time and it seems people are using an alarm clock not to miss it and trying to catch at least something.

And 100kg of this fabulous yarn have arrived at Maschenkunst in Cologne and are on sale since Tuesday. What you see on the picture is what was left today in the afternoon. four boxes reduced to less than half.

Daß ich mir einen Wecker stelle um bei einem Shopupdate vielleicht was zu ergattern kommt nun nicht in die Tüte. Ich habe ein Leben außerhalb des Internets und es gibt extrem viele schöne Garne.Und um sie auf gut Glück und ohne Farben und Qualität zu kennen zu kaufen sind sie mir dann zu teuer.

Aber wenn sie vor Ort sind und befummelt werden können… sieht das doch anders aus.

I am definitely not someone who sets the alarm clock, clicking wildly through the shop trying to catch at least something, no matter what. I have a life outside the web and there are more beautiful yarns in the world than I will ever have the chance to knit with. Also to buy without knowing the colors and without touching and feeling the quality they are to expensive for my taste.

But if I have a chance to see and touch them things are different.

Wollmeise GarnDass ich bei meinem Einkauf tatsächlich mäßig war verrät mir Isas Kommentar “für dich reicht eine kleine Tüte”. 🙂

Gelandet sind 300g Lace Garn “Stella Polaris” in semi solid. Für In the Pink von IzziKnits suche ich nämlich schon länger nach einem Garn das weder zu bunt, noch ganz einfarbig ist. Ich hoffe die Stärke passt. (Vom Lace Garn waren als ich ging noch vier oder fünf da.)

Größer war die Auswahl bei der Twin und der Merino Superwash, wobei die meisten Farben die mich interessiert hätten nur in Twin da waren, ich aber die etwas längere Lauflänge von der reinen Merino bevorzugt hätte. Nicht schlimm, einfach weniger gekauft. 🙂

Evidently I was a moderate shopper because Isa handed me the yarn with the words “a small bag will do for you”.

I picked a 300g skein of lace yarn in “Stella Polaris” color in semi solid. I am eying the patter In the Pink by IzziKnits for some time already, but couldn’t find a yarn that was neither to agitated nor completely plain solid. I hope the yarn will fit the pattern in the end. (When I left there were only four or five lace yarns left.)

For the fingering yarns, the “Twin” sock yarn and the merino superwash the choice was still bigger. A pitty that the colours I prefered were only there in “Twin” when I would have prefered them in Merino. Mostly for the reason that the 100% Merino has a little more length per skein, what I prefer. But that wasn’t to bad, so moderate shopping was easier.

Links ist ein Multicolor “verhext und verratzt”, lila mit grau, was sicher was tragbares für mich wird. Wer mich kennt, den wird das quietschrüne “Wasabi” in der Mitte irritieren. Ja, ich kann mir nicht vorstellen, das je zu tragen. Aber die Farbe sprach derart stark zu mir, was ja eher selten vorkommt, daß sie mit mußte. Ähnliches gilt für die “Flaschenpost” rechts, auch das ist zu grün für mich. Da habe ich aber schon eine konkrete Geschenkverwendung im Auge. Mal sehen, ob ich mich bis Weihnachten noch umentscheide.

Those who know me an my habits are surely irritated by the very green “Wasabi” in the middle. Right, I can’t image wearing something that color ever. But the color was talking to me that strongly I had to take it. And that only happens rarely with me. Similar “Flaschenpost” on the right. Too green for me. But for that I have in mind to make a gift from it for a specific person. Let’s see how often I am going to change my mind until Christmas.

Maschenkunst unterwegsJa, so eine Socke kommt rum. Auch auf der RER durfte sie fahren und kam damit bis Chaville. Und das Maschenkunst Logo hält sie hier gut fest.
