MützeVintage Buttons

Diese Mütze bringt schöne Knöpfe gut zur Geltung.

This hat is great to showcase beautiful buttons.

Die Knöpfe sind alte Couture-Knöpfe, die ich mal in Paris gefunden habe. Die Anleitung ist der Button Up Hat von Nessy, den ich bei Raverly gefunden habe. Im Endeffekt habe ich die Mütze drei Mal gestrickt, denn bei der Anleitung war keine Maschenprobe (die stand nur auf der Ravelry Seite, was aber nichts hilft, wenn man beim Stricken offline ist) und die erste Version war viel zu klein. Bei der zweiten hat dann das Garn nicht gereicht, aber die dritte war es dann. Wobei ich die Knopflöcher weggelassen habe und einfach beide Lagen mitden Knöpfen zusammen genäht habe.

The buttons are vintage couture buttons from Paris. The pattern is Button Up Hat by Nessy which I’ve found via ravelry. In the end I’ve knitted the hat three times, because there was no gauge on the pattern (only on the ravelry pattern page, what does not help if you are not online the moment you are knitting) and the first version was way to small. When doing the second my yarn was not enough, but then the third one was fine. I did not make the Button holes, but used the buttions to stitch the layers of the hat together.

Das Garn ist 50% Wolle, 50% Merino und nennt sich “Creative Focus Superwash” von Nashua Handknits. Stammt auch aus der Bestellung von WEBS in den USA damals. Strickt sich nett, ein griffiges Garn, aber auch nichts, wofür ich extra in den USA bestellen würde.

The yarn is 50% wool, 50% merino and is called “Creative Focus Superwash” by Nashua Handnkits. One of the skeines from my order at WEBS in the US some years ago. It knits nicely, but it is nothing that would be worth a complicated order from abroad.

Mal sehen, was aus der Mütze wird… ich brauche nämlich eigentlich nicht noch eine und die Farbe steht mit auch nicht besonders…

I don’t know yet what will become of that hat.. I do not really need anouther one and the color is not really the best for me…

 

Clog-Socke, die Anleitung

Clog Socke Die Füßlinge für Clogs habe ich ja schon hier gezeigt.

Und jetzt ist auch die Anleitung dazu fertig, ganz einfach, für einen Rest Lace Garn. Etwa 5g/50m habe ich gebraucht.

Fresh from the needles: Oktober 2014

Was ich euch diesen Monat erspare ist der Blick auf den Sweat Rock und die BH Bügel, da hat sich nämlich nichts getan.

What I will save you this months are the pics of the sweat skirt and the bra wires, there nothing happened.

SpitzeAuch meine Bluse hängt noch genauso auf der Puppe wie vor dem Urlaub. Allerdings habe ich die abgenähten Ecken in der Spitze aufgetrennt und gebügelt. Dafür, daß meine Mutter diese Spitze vor wenigstens 20 Jahren (oder noch länger) mit Simplicol gefärbt und meine Oma sie auf die Kissen genäht hat, hat sich das doch alles gut gehalten?

My wrap blouse hasn’t changed either. But I’ve unpicked the stitches that formed the edge in the lace and ironed everything. My mother had dyed that lace at least 20 years ago and my grandmother had sewn it then on cusions. And for that it really looks good, doesn’t it?

Abendkleid für BarbieNähtechnisch arbeite ich gerade wieder an einem Abendkleid. Allerdigns in einem anderen Maßstab… 😉 Ich bin wieder Tante geworden und nachdem ich es in den letzten gut 20 Jahren, seit ich das Schnittheft besitze genau einmal geschafft habe, ein kleines Mädchen mit einem Barbiekleid zu beschenken… fange ich einfach jetzt gleich an. Und bis die Kleine im Barbiealter ist, kann ich dann vielleicht eine kleine Garderobe verschenken. (Da ich selber aber keine Puppe mehr habe, kann ich die Sachen im Moment nur liegend präsentieren.)

Sewingwise I am working on an evening dress. Though at a very different scale… 😉 I have a brand new niece now and I am owning a mag with Barbie sewing patterns for more than 20 years. And so far I managed to sew exactly one outfit before the girl it was supposed to be for outgrew the Barbie time I’ll start now right away. If I am doing one now and then I hope to have a few ready to give once she’s grown into Barbie-age. (I don’t have a doll myself any longer, so I can show it only laying on a piece of paper.)

Lace SchalVor meinem Urlaub hatte ich dann noch eine Lace Stola angefangen. Das Garn ist das handgesponnene von Angelika, die Anleitung ist “Stola Madli”von Nancy Bush, die ich aus der einzigen (deutschen) Ausgabe von “The Knitter” die ich besitze habe. (Wenn ich noch Platz hätte, würde ich das wahrscheinlich öfter kaufen.) Hier habe ich inzwischen beide Spitzenenden und etwas mehr als fünf Rapporte des Mittelteils. Das Muster ist von estnischer Spitze inspiriert und ganz anders als die Muster aus Victorian Lace Today, die ich in letzter Zeit viel gestrickt habe.

Right before going on vaccation I had started a new lace shawl. The yarn is this hand spun by  Angelika, the pattern is “Madli” by Nancy Bush. Which I have in the only (German) issue of “The Knitter” I own. (If I had any room left I’d buy that more often.) I’ve done both endings and a bit more than 5 repeats of the main body. The pattern is Estonian Lace and quite different from the New Victorian Lace pattern I’ve been knitting a lot over the recent years.

HäkelhexagonsOffiziell beendet habe ich meine Häkel-Hexagons. Das sind jetzt 428, das wird reichen. Ich habe sie auch schon mal grob in hell, dunkel und mittel aufgeteilt. Jetzt muß ich mir dann mal ernsthaft Gedanken machen, wie ich sie zusammensetzen werde… Völlig zufällig oder doch mit System?

Officially finished are my crochted Granny hexagons. I have 428 now and that will be enough. I’ve already separted them in “light”, “dark” and “middle”. Now I have to take a decision how I will assemble them… Randomly or with a kind of a pattern?

Manche Maschenproben können sich wirklich endlos ziehen….

Sometimes swatches can become endless…

MaschenprobeMein schönes handgesponnenes Garn soll nicht so lange ruhen, also habe ich mir eine Lace-Anleitung ausgeguckt. Nun braucht eine Stola nicht unbedingt eine Maschenprobe, aber zum einen hilft es, den Materialverbrauch einzuschätzen, zum anderen sollte man handgesponnenes Garn auf alle Fälle mal anstricken um zu sehen, wie das Maschenbild aussieht.

My beautiful handspun is supposed to be used soon, so I choose a lace shawl pattern. now a shawl does not absolutely need a swatch, but on the other hand it helps a lot to check if the amount of yarn is right and also a handspun yarn does not come with instructions, so you need a swatch to see how you like the stitch formation.

Die Anleitung gibt eine Maschenprobe für 5x5cm in glatt rechts vor und das ergibt 15 Maschen und 21 Reihen. Ich habe die Anleitung aus einem Heft. Auf der Ravelry-Seite werden 16 Maschen und 28 Reihen für 4 inches angegeben. Das sehe ich allerdings erst jetzt… 15 Maschen auf 5cm bei Nadelstärke 3,5 sind eher ambitioniert, oder?

The instructions give a 5cmx5cm gauge with 15 stitches and 21 rows in stockinette. (I have it from a magazine. the ravelry page for the same pattern gives you 16 stitches and 28 rows for a 4 inch swatch. But that I am seeing only right now.) 15 stitches on 5cm wiht 3.5mm needles… that is kind of… interesting.

Trotzdem habe ich mal brav mit 3,5er Nadeln angefangen. Das ergibt bei mir 10Mx17R. Dann bin ich in Viertelmillimeterschritten runtergegangen… Nadel 3,25 ergibt 11Mx17R, Nadel 3 ergibt 11,5Mx17R (hä? immer noch die gleiche Reihenzahl??), Nadel 2,75 kommt auf 13Mx18R, Nadel 2,5 ergibt 14Mx18,5R. (Ab hier ist das Maschenbild dicht.) Dann mußte ich auf Metallnadeln umstellen und komme bei Nadel 2,25 auf 14Mx21R. Ich glaube, besser wird es nicht mehr… jetzt habe ich auch Rundstricknadeln aus Holz in 2,25, Mal sehen, wie sich das bewährt…. Das Maschenbild sieht bei meinem Garn jedenfalls gut aus und die Löcher sollten gut zur Geltung kommen…

Still I started swatching obediently with 3.5mm needles. Makes for me 10 stitches and 17 rows. Then I went doen in 0.25mm increments. Needle 3.25mm results in 11 stitches and 17 rows, needle 3mm makes 11,5 stitches and 17 rows (what? no change in the row count??), needle  2.75 mm results in 13 stitches and 18 rows, needle 2.5mm makes 14 stitches and 18,5 rows. Then I was running out of wooden needles and hat to switch to metall dpns. (But the stitches form nicely and give a dense pattern.) And finally with needles 2.25mm I result in a gauge of 14 stitches and 21 rows. I think that is as close as I can get… the knitted fabric looks nicely dense at that gauge, so the holes should look very nice against the background of the fabric…

Und den “Probeschal” trenne ich wieder auf, denn das Garn werde ich wohl vollständig brauchen… 44cm brauchte ich für eine Entscheidung….

And now I’m going to rip my “gauge-scarf” because I’ll need all my yarn, I guess…. it took me 44cm to decide…

Clog-Socke

Clog Sock

Socken für ClogsEs gibt ja keine Schuhe, die nicht einen Ort finden, wo sie meine Füße blutig reiben können. Bei den schwedischen Holzclogs (die sonst recht bequem sind) ist es auf dem Fußrücken. Vermutlich läuft sich das mal noch weicher. Wenn ich sie denn tragen könnte…

There is probably no shoe on this world which does not find a spot on my feet where it can scratch the skin off. With this sweedish clogs it’s on the back of my feet. (Otherwise they are quite comfy.) I guess the leather will get softer with wearing, if I could wear them…

Also habe ich einen Rest Wetterhoff Silvia genommen und habe ein luftiges Fußschonerchen improvisiert. Das Lacegarn aus Seide und Wolle zieht sich nicht sehr zusammen, daher sitzen sie etwas locker, aber im Schuh klemmen sie dann gut. (Langer Tragetest steht noch aus…)

So I took some remnant of Wetterhoff Silvia and improvised those airy little footlings. The silk-wool blend lace yarn does not pull together well, so they are a bit loose. But inside the clog they are kept on. (The long wearing test hasn’t been done yet…)

Blocking around

Fußschoner spannenLochmuster oder neudeutsch Lace sehen ja gespannt einfach schöner aus. Nur wie macht man das, bei rund gestrickten Sachen? – Genau, zwei alte Saftgläser müssen herhalten. (Zum Glück habe ich ein buntes Sammelsurium in unterschiedlichen Größen, so daß die passende dabei war….)

Lace looks better blocked, but how do you do this if your item has been knitted in the round? – Right, some old glasses will do. (Luckily I have a quite mixed assortiment in different sizes so one did fit…)

Fresh look on needles: August 2014

WickelbluseAuch diesen Monat ungelöst: Das Paßformproblem der Wickelbluse. Allerdings habe ich jetzt einen Lösungsansatz…. ich habe nämlich eine blau gefärbte Baumwollspitze gefunden, die farblich genau passt. Ich werde die Spitze einfach in die Seitennähte einsetzen. Dann wird die Bluse etwas weiter und das sollte den Zug vorne weg nehmen…

Still unsolved: The blouse still does not keep closed. But I have a new idea for a solution… I found a piece of lace, dyed in a matching blue, in my stash. I think I will open the side seams and insert the lace. So the top becomes a bit wider and should pull less at the front. 

BH BügelAuch mein BH ist noch nicht fertig. Die Bügelspitzen haben jetzt aber die ersten zwei Schichten Lack…

My bra isn’t finished either. But the cut wires have the first two layers of varnish…

RockWie zu erwarten hat sich auch an meinem Sweat-Rock nicht viel getan. Es gibt eine rückwärtige Mittelnaht und viele Knitter, weil er jetzt zwei Monate gefaltet in der Schublade lag.

As expected no real progress on my skirt. The back middle seam is closed also and it has a lot of creases from laying folded in a drawer for two months.

SeidenkleidDafür hat sich der Haufen Folienschnitteile nicht nur in ein Testkleid verwandelt, sondern das endgültige Kleid ist auch fertig. Es fehlt nur noch der Saum. (Was allerdings auch nötig ist, denn ich habe auch nur noch einen Nähtag….) Die Versäuberung mit Schrägband mache ich mit der Maschine, der Rest ist Handarbeit. Das heißt, notfalls kann ich es auch noch vor Ort machen, kurz vor der Feier…

But all those pattern pieces on plastic sheet did not only turn into a test dress but the “real” dress is nearly finished also. Only the hem is missing. (Which is very necessary, because I have only one sewing day left….) The binding for the hem allowance I will sew with the machine, but the rest will be hand stitches. Means in the worst case I can do it last minute before the party…

MützeAuch die Mütze sieht unverändert aus. Das täuscht allerdings. Nachdem ich auf der Ravelry Seite zur Anleitung doch eine Angabe zur Maschenprobe gefunden habe, habe ich die Mütze aufgetrennt und größer neu gestrickt. Und dann noch mal komplett geribbelt und mit zwei Maschen weniger ein drittes Mal gestrickt, weil das Garn nicht reichte…

The hat also looks unchanged. But that is wrong. Since I finally found informations about the gauge on the raverly page of the patter I frogged everything and started again bigger. Then I frogged it for a second time and restarted with 2 stitches less, because the yarn was not enough….

SockenGanz neu sind die Socken. Die sind nicht für mich und sollen eine speziell feste Sohle haben, weil sie eher so zum Lümmeln auf dem Sofa sein sollen.

Just started are those new socks. They are not for me and are supposed to have an extra stable sole, because they will not be worn in shoes, but on the sofa.

gehäkelte HexagonsGroßen Fortschritt bei meinen Hexagons, ich habe nämlich 405, also bin ich fertig. Da ich mich aber noch nicht entscheiden kann, wie ich es zusammenhäkle, werde ich noch ein paar mehr häkeln, um meine Farbauswahl zu vergrößern.

Big progress with my hexagons, I have 405 now, so I am oficially finished. But since I can’t decide how to crochet it together I will continue a bit to create a bigger choice of color combinations.

Inzwischen sind es ganz schön viele Projekte… ich hoffe, bis November oder so habe ich das mal wieder etwas reduziert…

That are a bit more projects than I normally like… I hope to reduce the number by November or so….

Ewiger Schnee…

Eternal Snow…

Mütze… ist auch in braun hübsch. (Das ist eines meiner kleinen Projekte, die in den letzten Wochen fertig wurden, die ich aber noch nicht genzeigt habe…)

… can be pretty in brown also. (One of my small projects I had finished over the last weeks but not managed to show…)

Neige Eternelle hat Laurene Bassart diese Mütze getauft. Und ich fand die Anleitung perfekt, um den großen Rest der “Garzato Fleece” von Lana Grossa abzuarbeiten.

Laurene Bassart called this pattern Neige Eternelle. And I thought it was perfect to use up the quite large “remnant” of my “Garzato Fleece” by Lana Grossa.

Die Mütze wird mit verkürzten Reihen quer gestrickt und mit einer Naht geschlossen. Ein etwas ungewöhnliches Konzept, man bekommt so aber sehr einfach eine effektvolle Kopfbedeckung und der Zopf einmal rund um den Kopf gefällt mir wirklich gut.

The hat is knit with short rows and then closed with a seam. A bit unusual, but a very easy way for a very cute hat. And I like the braid running around the hat.

Da die Mütze verschenkt wird (der nächste Winter kommt bestimmt…) habe ich sie größer gestrickt als vorgesehen, sie ist aber elastische genug, um auch mir nicht über die Augen zu rutschen. Ich glaube… ich sollte mir selber auch eine stricken.

This hat will be a gift (there will be a next winter, I am pretty sure…) so I made it larger than the instructions said. But it has enough elasticity to keep on myl (smaller) head also. I think… I should one make for myself also…

 

Frühlingsüberblick April 2014

Spring Overview April 2014

Wickelbluse Der neue Überblick fängt mit einem alten Photo an. An der Wickelbluse und deren Problematik hat sich nämlich noch nichts getan. Bzw. nichts, was zu einem Ergebnis geführt hätte. Aber ich arbeite noch dran und habe nicht vollends aufgegeben.

The new overview starts with an old photo. The wrap top and the problem are still where they were two months ago. There is something I am working on, but that takes time. But I have not given up completely.

BH

Damit sich die fast fertige Bluse nicht so alleine fühlt, gibt es einen fast fertigen BH (Élan 511) dazu. Hier sind noch die Bügel zu kürzen, die Enden zu versiegeln (wofür ich immer noch keine dauerhaft wirksame Methode gefunden habe…) und dann das Bügelband zu verschließen.

My nearly finished top needn’t feel lonely, I added a nearly finished bra (Élan 511). The wires need shortening and then I have to seal the ends (where I still haven’t found a really satisfying technique for) and close the wire tunnel.

clutchthreads1401Das nächste Projekt ist auch schon in den Startlöchern: Eine (bzw. mehrere) Clutch nach der Anleitung aus der Threads vom November 2013. Nach der kleinen und wenig bemaßten Schemazeichnung die Schnitteile herstellen war nicht so ganz einfach… Inch-Maße lassen da viel Spielraum.

The next project is already waiting: One (or several) clutch after the instructions from Threads from November 2013. Making the pattern with those tiny schematics which give only few clear measurements was not easy. Having everything in inch does not help precision…

mutu1311Auch fast fertig ist mein Strickkleid. Hier muß noch eine Spitze am Saum gegen genäht werden. Ich hoffe, dann rollt er sich nicht mehr. Grau war das beste, was ich bekommen konnte, da ich sie gerne elastisch wollte. Damit ich es tragen kann, wird es noch ein Unterkleid brauchen (die Armausschnitte gehen arg tief), aber das hat dann ein paar Monate Zeit… bis nächsten Winter.

My knitted dress is also nearly finished. I have to sew on the lace to the left side of the hem. Grey was the best I could get and I hope It won’t roll after that. To wear the dress I will need a kind of a slip (the armholes are veeery low) but that is not urgent. I hope I will not need it before next winter or at least autumn.

sock1409Fast fertig sind die nächsten Socken. Eine weitere (noch wildere) Variation auf das Stitch Surfer Muster. Keine Ahnung, warum rosa, aber mir war gerade danach….

Nearly finished the next socks, Another (even wilder) variation of the Stitch Surfer pattern. No idea why I choose this color, but I kind of felt like it…

mogr1404Den aktuellen Hexagonstand will ich euch natürlich auch nicht vorenthalten… hier bin ich inzwischen bei 345, das Ende ist schon fast zu sehen. Vermutlich noch dieses Jahr. Zumindest was die Hxxagons betrifft, sie alle zu einer Decke zusammenzufügen ist dann noch mal eine andere Geschichte…

Of course you will not miss the update on my hexagon project… I’ve crocheted 345 so far. I can nearly see the end. Probably this year. At least for the hexagons, making them into a plaid will be another story.

buch1401Ergänzend diesen Monat noch einen Blick auf die aktuelle Bettlektüre. Das gelbe Buch muß ich bis Ende des Monats mehr oder weniger auswendig können (was weniger dramatisch ist, als es klingt, weil ich nur die Unterschiede zur vorherigen Auflage neu “lernen” muß, das ist nicht so viel) und zu dem anderen kann ich noch nichts sagen. Das liegt da seit zwei Tagen, aber reingelesen habe ich noch nicht.

Additionally a look on my bedside lecture. The yellow book I have more or less to know by heart until end of the month (what is less dramatic than it looks, because I only have to “learn” what is different from the last edition and that is not that much) and for the other one I can’t say anything yet. It sits on the table for two days, but I haven’t read a word of it.

Very fast fingerless mitts

Zumindest theoretisch, wenn man statt Maschenprobe erst mal eine Stulpe mit doch etwas zu kleinen Nadeln strickt, dann dauert es etwas länger.

At least theoretically. If you skip the gauge and knit one mitt with to small needles instead then it takes a bit longer.

HandstulpenIch hatte ein Knäuel “Joana” von Schachenmayr nomotto. Von dem hatte ich so ein- oder zwei Meter gebraucht, um einen Mütze fertig zu stricken. Also suchte ich was für das dicke Garn mit der eher kurzen Lauflänge.

I had one skein of “Joana” by Schachenmayer nomotta left. I had needed a bit more than one meter to finish a hat and was left with one not even full skein of a thick yarn with not to much meterage.

Und da fand ich bei ravelry dieses Modell: Bofur’s fingerless Gloves von Anya Lowery. Was mich fasziniert ist, daß dies wirklich die einfachste Konstruktion eines Handwärmers ist: Perlmuster, ein Schlitz für den Daumen… und es funktioniert! Die grobe Optik gefällt mir sehr gut. Dadurch daß die Finger und der Daumen weitgehend frei sind, kann man auch gut arbeiten. Die sollten eigentlich auch gut sein, um im Winter am Computer zu tippen. Dabei bekomme ich nämlich auch gerne kalte Finger. Ich gehe allerdings davon aus, daß ich das diesen Winter nicht mehr testen werde…

And then I found the Bofur’s fingerless Gloves pattern by Anya Lowery on ravelry. I am very fascinated by the extreme basic construction principle: Seed stitch, an opening for the thumb…. done. I like also the look a lot. Fingers and thumb are mostly free, so great to do some work. And they should be useful to type on the computer on cold winter days. I tend to get cold hands from this. But I do not think I will have to test it this winter...

Einziges Problem: Es ist immer noch Garn übrig… das war nicht so geplant.

Only problem: There is still some yarn left… that was not the plan.
