After summer is before summer

geringelte Sneaker SockenFertig sind diese Restesocken schon seit September, aber da dann ja kein Sommer mehr war, habe ich das Photographieren immer rausgeschoben. Aber jetzt wollte ich die Socken endlich mal in die Schublade räumen…

Those leftover socks I’ve finished already in September, but since summer was over then I always postponed the taking-a-picture part. But now I was fed up with having them laying around and wanted to put them finally into the drawer….

Das Garn ist zwei Mal “Meilenweit Solo Cotone Stretch” von Lana Grossa. Ich stellte fest, daß die Reste von den Socken für meinen Bruder farblich gut zu den Resten von meinen Spitzensöckchen passten. Und schon hatte ich auch noch ein paar Sneaker Socken. Für den nächsten Sommer…

The yarn are leftovers from “Meilenweit Solo Cotone Stretch” by Lana Grossa. I realized, that the remnants of my brothers socks did match the remnants of my lacy summer socks. And soonI had a pair of sneaker socks for myself. For next summer…

Summer in Turquoise

Türkise SockenFür mich selber gibt es auch wieder Socken. Diesmal war mir nach verspielt, daher ein Lochmuster und ein bißchen Picot am Rand.

Socks for myself. This time I felt kind of girly so I used a lace pattern and a picot bind off as a border.

Fußspitze mit SockeAls Garn habe ich “Solo Cotone Stretch” von Lana Grossa genommen und muß sagen, ich bin begeistert. Es strickt und trägt sich wie reine Baumwolle, der Elasthananteile verhindert aber, daß die Socken beim Tragen ausleiern.

The yarn is “Solo Cotone Stretch” by Lana Grossa and I must say I am very happy with it. It knits and feels like a pure cotton yarn, but the elasthane gives a nice elasticity when wearing. No falling off of the socks.

Das Lochmuster ist aus dem Vogue Stitchionary. Irgendwas mit Schneeflockenmuster oder so… Passt aber auch sehr gut in den Sommer. 🙂

The lace pattern is from a Vogue Stitchionary. Something with snowflake pattern or such… Fits well in summer also. 🙂

Striped sneaker socks

Sneaker Socken aus BaumwollgarnWunschgemäß gibt es für meinen Bruder diesmal Sneaker Socken zum Geburtstag. Nachdem er Weihnachten meinte, Wintersocken hätte er jetzt eigentlich genug, weil er auch die Baumwollsocken mit Schaft nur im Winter trägt…

Since my Brother told me on Christmas that he is well equipped now with winter socks, since he is also wearing the cotton socks only in winter, because in summer the leg part feels to warm for him.,, he’s getting sneaker socks for his birthday.

Das Garn ist von Lana Grossa “Meilenweit Solo Cotone Stretch” und hat zur Baumwolle noch einen Polyesteranteil. Im Gegensatz zu einem “Stretch” Garn, das ich früher mal verwendet habe fühlt sich das beim Stricken aber zum Glück nicht dehnbar an. Mit dem anderen war ich nämlich nicht gut klar gekommen. Bei den Ringeln habe ich mir nur ungefähr Mühe gegeben, den Farbverlauf zu treffen und das hat erstaunlich gut funktioniert.

The yarn is “Meilenweit Solo Cotone Stretch” by Lana Grossa. It’s cotton and polyester but luckily it is not stretchy while knitting. (I’ve once had a “stretch” yarn that was really kind of elastic and had trouble knitting with it.) I’ve only taken a bit of care to match the stripes of both socks but they turned out pretty well for that.

Die Socke ist meine “Standardsocke”, nur ohne Bein. Wobei ich oberhalb der Ferse mit verkürzten Reihen noch einen kleinen Keil gestrickt habe, damit sie nicht so leicht in den Schuh reinrutschen. Mal sehen, wie im Herbst der “Tragebericht” ausfällt. 🙂

The pattern is my standard sock pattern, just without the leg part. I added a bit of height with short rows over the heel only, so they should not slip into the shoe so easily. We’ll see what my brother will tell me about how they have been wearing once summer is over. 🙂

Fresh from the needles February 2017

Shirt als "Bausatz" in pinkEndlich gibt  es mal wieder ein richtiges Nähprojekt. Ein Shirt soll es werden, ich habe letztlich vom Daytona Weekender von Hot Patterns die Kapuze übernommen und von Burda 6785 die Seitennaht mit der Raffung. Das ganze habe ich an meinen Standardshirtschnitt “angebaut” und hoffe, daß die Gesamtwirkung so wird, wie ich das gerne hätte. Wie üblich alles etwas aufwändiger, als geplant, denn ich mache überall Kappnähte, die aber (nach der ersten Naht) von Hand. Das Material ist Wolljersey, in dem Handstiche so gut wie unsichtbar sind und man kann von Hand die Fadenspannung so regulieren, daß die Naht elastisch genug bleibt. Ohne am Ende eine Zickzacknaht auf der rechte Stoffseite zu haben.

Finally a real sewingproject again. It’s supposed to become a top. In the end I decided to use the Hood from the Daytona Weekender by Hot patterns and the shape of the side seams from Burda 6785 with the shirred effect. The details were added to my old standard shirt pattern. I hope it will turn out as expected. As usual it will be more work than originally planned. I make flat felled seams and I am doing the felling part with hand stitches. The fabric is a woolen jersey so it is easy to make mostly invisible stitches and I can create the right tension on the thread easily so it will remain elastic enough without having ugly zigzag stitches on the right side of the fabric.

geringelte Sneaker SockenDa mein Bruder bald Geburtstag hat sind auch wieder Socken auf der Nadel. Für den Sommer hat er sich Sneaker Socken gewünscht (hätte er mir ja auch eher sagen können…), da habe ich natürlich nichts dagegen, weil sie deutlich schneller gehen. Material ist “Meilenweit Solo Cottone Stretch” von Lana Grossa. Was sich überraschenderweise gut verstrickt. Ich hatte mal ein anderes Garn mit Elasthan, mit dem ich gar nicht klar kam. Hier ist der Gehalt aber so gering, daß das Garn selber nicht beim Stricken dehnt. Ob es die Haltbarkeit der Socken am Fuß erhöht wird man sehen. Ich habe da noch ein Knäuel von, das sollte ich dann für mich ausprobieren.

My brother’s birthday is approaching, so I have the next socks on my needles. He finally told me he is only wearing sneaker socks in summer (could have told be before…), so that’s what he will be getting this year. Nice for me because without a leg part they are done much faster. The yarn is “Meilenweit Solo Cottone Stretch” by Lana Grossa. It knits better than expected. Some time ago I had knitted with another yarn with Elasthane/Spandex content and had big problems to create an even tension. Here the content of Elasthane is very low, so the yarn does not stretch while being knitted. If it is enough to make the socks stay put on the feet we will see. I have another skein of that which I will be trying for myself.

Tuch TrillianDas Tuch “Trillian” ist fast fertig. Gebraucht habe ich 140g von “Jawoll Magic” von Lang Yarns. Das ist etwas weniger als die Anleitung angibt, mir ist das Tuch aber groß genug. Hier müssen noch die Fäden vernäht werden und dann noch gedämpft oder so. Und dann mal sehen, was draus wird. Ich habe ja schon so viele Tücher.

“Trillian” is nearly finished. It used 140g of “Jawoll Magic” by Lang Yarns. That is a little less than the pattern calls for but I think the shawl is big enough. I still have to weave in the ends and do a little steam blocking or something like that. And then let’s see what I will do with it. I already have so many shawls.

rote StricktunikaEin bisschen weiter gewachsen ist auch meine Stricktunika. Kurz nach dem letzten Beitrag habe ich das sechste Knäuel vom roten Garn doch noch gefunden, habe bis zum Beginn von braun wieder rückgestrickt (trennen ging bei dem Garn nicht, aber Masche für Masche zurückstricken war möglich) und noch ein Knäuel rot gestrickt. Jetzt ist aber braun unwiderruflich mit eingearbeitet. Ein Stück länger soll es schon noch werden.

Some growth of my knitted tunic. Shortly after my last overview I’ve found the sixth skein of red yarn so I backstiched to where I had started the brown yarn (the yarn is fuzzy, ripping was not possible, but taking out stitch by stich was doable) and added a whole skein of red. Now brown has definitely started. I want more length.

Begonnenes Lace TuchMein “Knitted Veil in Pyrenees Wool” aus dem Jakobschaf ist auch von der Randbordüre ins Hauptmuster hineingewachsen.

BücherEine ganze Menge Projekte also, die im Moment hier so in Arbeit sind. Das Buch von A.S.Byatt habe ich dank eines wirklich häßlich verregneten Wochenendes in Paris fertig gelesen, stattdessen ein kleines Intermezzo mit Donna Leon. Das Buch über die Handschuhe ist nicht immer noch Abendlektüre, sondern schon wieder. Bei den Handarbeitsbüchern lese ich ja nicht immer so systematisch, sondern mal hier ein bißchen, mal da ein bißchen…

So there are a lot of projects going on at the moment. Readingwise I managed to finish the A.S.Byatt thanks to a really ugly and rainy weekend in Paris. Now a bit of Donna Leon which will probably not last that long. The book about gloves is not still on my nightstand but again. I do not read the craft and fashion books so systematically, more like some pages here, some pages there…

 

400 Hexagons…

400 Hexagons…
Häkeldecke… etwa 6 Kilometer Garn und etwa drei Jahre und neun Monate Häkeln hat es gedauert. Aber jetzt ist meine Häkeldecke fertig und ich liebe sie. Ein einmaliges Stück und es war die Mühe wert.

… about 6 kilometers of yarn and about three years and nine months of crocheting was what it took to create this blanket. But it’s finished now and I love it. Really a unique piece and worth doing it.

Zur Zusammenfassung: es waren zwei verschiedene Häkelmotive (Nummer 30 und Nummer 54) aus dem Buch Beyond the Square von Edie Eckman und die verwendeten Garne waren “Boulino”, “Mystik” und “Samoa” von GGH, “Linen” von Katia, “Basics Capello” von Lana Grossa, “Morena” (in zwei Farben) von Schachenmayr nomotta,”Melange” von Zarina sowie “Bea” von Zettl. 400 Hexagons ergeben eine Decke von etwa 150cm x 200cm und fürs Zusammenhäkeln habe ich ziemlich genau vier Knäuel gebraucht.

To sum it up: I were two different crochet motifs (30 and 54) from the book Beyond the Square by Edie Eckman. The yarns I used were Boulino”, “Mystik” and “Samoa” by GGH, “Linen” by Katia, “Basics Capello” by Lana Grossa, “Morena” (in two colors) by Schachenmayr nomotta,”Melange” by Zarina and “Bea” by Zettl. 400 Hexagons make a blanket in the size 150cm x 200cm. Crocheting all the hexagons together took four skeins of yarn.

Die Garne sind nicht ganz gleich dick und die beiden Motive haben nicht die gleiche Maschenzahl, aber durch die Verwendung unterschiedlich starker Häkelnadeln und durch etwas Recken und Bügeln vor dem Zusammenhäkeln gleicht sich das am Ende aus, die Decke liegt flach. 🙂

The yarns do not all have the same weight and the motifs I choose do not have the same number of stitches. But by using crochet hooks of different sizes and then stretching and pressing the patches before attaching them it all evened out in the end. The blanket lays flat. 🙂

übrige Häkelteile Jetzt sind noch 80 Hexagons und etwa 600g verschiedener Garne übrig. Mal sehen, ob ich das irgendwie los werde…. Denn nein, ich mag keine gehäktelten Sofakissen…

Now I have about 80 hexagons and nearly 600g of different yarns left. Let’s see how I can get rid of those… Because no, I do not want grannie cushions.

Socks for Homeless V

RingelsockenMein fünftes Paar für unsere Obdachlosenaktion. Ich hätte ehrlich gesagt nicht damit gerechnet, daß ich mehr als zwei oder drei Paare schaffen würde.

That is my fifth pair for our Socks for Homeless campaign. I am quite surprised, because I had never thought I could do more than three pairs.

Diesmal habe ich Reste bunt gemixt, angeregt durch dieses Video. Durch diese Technik werden die Ringel spiralig gestrickt und man hat nur an Anfang und am Ende einen Ansatz und man kann eigentlich alle Garne so mixen.

This time I mixed my remnants wild. I’ve found this video that shows how to make fine stripes without a visibla change between the rows. They go spiral like and you can basically mix all colors that way.

Bei mir waren es Reste von Crelando “Anika” (in zwei Farben), Lana Grossa “Meilenweit 50 Cotton Uni”, ONline “Supersocke 100”, Wollmeise “80/20” und Regia “4fädig Tweed”. Da die Regia nicht so durchlauffest ist habe ich die nur im Schaft eingesetzt. Spitze, Ferse und das Bünchen habe ich einfarbig gestrickt. Und zwei der Reste sind jetzt aufgebraucht.

So I used leftovers from Crelando “Anika” (in two colors), Lana Grossa “Meilenweit 50 Cotton Solid”, ONline “Supersocke 100”, Wollmeise “80/20” and Regia “4fädig Tweed”. Since I know that this Regia is not so stabile when used on the sole I only used it on the leg. I used only one yarn for toe, heel and cuff. Two of the leftovers are used up now.

Eternal Snow…

Mütze… ist auch in braun hübsch. (Das ist eines meiner kleinen Projekte, die in den letzten Wochen fertig wurden, die ich aber noch nicht genzeigt habe…)

… can be pretty in brown also. (One of my small projects I had finished over the last weeks but not managed to show…)

Neige Eternelle hat Laurene Bassart diese Mütze getauft. Und ich fand die Anleitung perfekt, um den großen Rest der “Garzato Fleece” von Lana Grossa abzuarbeiten.

Laurene Bassart called this pattern Neige Eternelle. And I thought it was perfect to use up the quite large “remnant” of my “Garzato Fleece” by Lana Grossa.

Die Mütze wird mit verkürzten Reihen quer gestrickt und mit einer Naht geschlossen. Ein etwas ungewöhnliches Konzept, man bekommt so aber sehr einfach eine effektvolle Kopfbedeckung und der Zopf einmal rund um den Kopf gefällt mir wirklich gut.

The hat is knit with short rows and then closed with a seam. A bit unusual, but a very easy way for a very cute hat. And I like the braid running around the hat.

Da die Mütze verschenkt wird (der nächste Winter kommt bestimmt…) habe ich sie größer gestrickt als vorgesehen, sie ist aber elastische genug, um auch mir nicht über die Augen zu rutschen. Ich glaube… ich sollte mir selber auch eine stricken.

This hat will be a gift (there will be a next winter, I am pretty sure…) so I made it larger than the instructions said. But it has enough elasticity to keep on myl (smaller) head also. I think… I should one make for myself also…

 

Sehr asymmetrische Socken

Very asymmetrical socks

Asymmetrisch bzw. gespiegelt sind die Socken Wendel (gefunden auf ravelry) ja ohnehin gedacht, aber diese sind noch etwas asymmetrischer als geplant. Die Anleitung hatte mich etwas verwirrt, so daß ich den ersten Schaft in die falsche Richtung “gedreht” habe.

The socks Wendel (found on ravelry) are supposed to be mirrored, but mine got even more asymmetrical. I got a bit confused by the instructions and finally “turned” the first leg in the wrong direction.

Da die Socken aber zum Geburtstag meines Bruders fertig sein mußten und ich es erst merkte, als ich mit der zweiten Socke anfing… war auftrennen keine Option.

Since the socks had to be finished for my brothers birthday and I only found out the mistake after having started the second one… ripping everything was not an option.

Aber das Muster finde ich schön, für “männliche” Sommersocken. Das Garn war Lana Grossa “Meilenweit Soja”. Ich bleibe dabei, daß Lana Grossa nicht mein Lieblingsgarn ist, es drillt immer ein wenig und die vielen verschränkten Maschen abzustricken, ohne daß es sich aufspleißt war auch nicht immer einfach, aber es ging. Glücklicherweise habe ich den Schaft um einen Rapport gekürzt und auch die Spitze etwas kürzer gemacht, denn wie Viscose-Garne meistens, läuft auch dieses kürzer als “normales” Sockengarn. (Wobei es wieder spannend ist, daß bei dem einen 50g Knäuel nur etwas mehr als ein Meter übrig war, beim anderen deutlich mehr…)

But anyhow, I like the pattern for “male” summer socks, airy, but not girly-lacey. The yarn was “Meilenweit Soja” by Lana Grossa. Still not myfavorite brand, the yarn tends to twist a bit around itself and with all those twisted stitches it tends to split. Luckily I made the leg part shorter by one repeat and also made the toe a bit shorter. Otherwise the yarn would not have been enough. Like all viscose yarns it runs shorter than “normal” sock yarns. (Interestingly from one skein a little more than one meter was left, from the other one quite some more…)

Nun ja, entweder mein Bruder merkt es nicht oder er muß damit leben. 😮

Well, either my brother wont see it or he will have to live with it. 😮

Mitts for an Organist

Orgelhandschuh“Das wäre zum Orgelspielen aber praktisch” sagte ein Freund spontan, als er mich hieran nadeln sah. Er mußte mir aber zustimmen, daß die doch ein wenig mädchenhaft sind. 😉

“That would be useful for playing the organ” a friend of mine said spontaneously when he saw me knitting those. But he agreed that they were a little too girly for him. 😉

(Für Nicht-Kirchgänger: die meisten Kirchen sind alt und nicht gut geheizt. Oder gar nicht, wie in diesem Fall.)

(For those who do not know: European Churches are often old and not well heated. Or not at all. As is the case for my friend.)

Aber das klang nach einem “Auftrag”, der mir Spaß machen würde, also ließ ich mir die Wunschmaße geben und strickte los. Wunschgemäß natürlich in einem frischen männertauglichen grau, sehr weiche Sockenwolle von Lana Grossa, Meilenweit 50 Seta/Cashemere.

But that sounded like an “order” that would be fun so I asked for the measurements he wanted and started knitting. The color he wanted was a fresh grey, of course. A very soft sock woll, Meilenweit 50 Seta/Cashmere by Lana Grossa.

Wenn ich schon keine Farbe nehmen durfte, habe ich mich an der Struktur ausgetobt: die Rippen des Armteils sind locker gezopft, auf dem Handrücken geht es dann mit sehr dichten Zöpfen weiter. Der Daumenzwickel ist extra mit etwas Mehrweite für die Bewegungsfreiheit gestrickt und die Zöpfe laufen dezent über den Daumen weiter.

Since I wasn’t “allowed” colors I played with texture: The ribs on the arm have loose cabels which get dense in the back of the hand. The thumb gusset is a little loose to make sure there is enough room for movements. And decent cables run up the thump.

Die Stulpen sind schön lang, um die Finger in den Spielpausen warm zu halten. Und wenn es ans Spielen geht, dann kann man das Bündchen vorne etwas zurückfalten.

The mitts are nicely long to keep the fingers warm while waiting. And to start playing one can fold it back a bit.

Mir hat das Stricken jedenfalls Spaß gemacht und mein Freund ist glücklich über seine Orgelhandschuhe. 🙂

I had a lot of fun knitting it and my friend is very happy about his organists mitts. 🙂

Flash Overview December 2013

Wie versprochen mal wieder einen tagesfrischen Blick in mein Gewerkel… Ich fange mit dem Nähen an:

As promised a up-to-date view from my running projects… I’ll start with sewing:

Ja, nichts, nothing, nada, rien. Es gibt keine angefangenen Nähprojekte. Nach meiner Jacke habe ich noch Kleinzeug und “dringendes” gemacht. Letzte Woche wurden meine “Verschenksäckchen” fertig, danach habe ich mich an die Weihnachtskarten gemacht (die auch fertig sind, zumindest so weit wie die Klebefolie reichte… *grmpf*)… und das war’s. Der zweite Grund dürfte sein, daß ich noch mit mir hadere, ob ich jetzt diszipliniert eine Bluse zur grauen Hose für das Frühjahr nähen soll, oder noch versuchen, “mal eben schnell” für Weihnachten ein Kleid zu nähen. (Das vermutlich nicht fertig wird und dann wieder ewig als Ufo herumliegt.)

Yes, nothing, nicht, nada, rien. There is no sewing project that is right now under my needle. After finishing the grey jacket (yes, that is a while ago) I only made tiny stuff and “urgencies”. I finished my cookies treat bags last week, made the christmas cards afterwards (which are kind of finished now, because I ran out of double sided adhesive film)… and that’s it. The other reason is probably that I can’t decide if I better continue with the long planned top for the grey pants for spring or if I try to make a dress for Christmas. (Which very likely will not be finished in time and then be another eternal ufo.)

OrgelhandschuheDafür gibt es einige Strickprojekte zu sehen. Das hier sollen Orgelhandschuhe werden, nach Maß aber ohne Anprobe und nach eigenem Entwurf. Das Garn ist “Meilenweit 50 Seta/Cashmere” von Lana Grossa. Fühlt sich weich an, erinnert mich aber mit jeder Masche daran, daß Lana Grossa nicht so mein Lieblingsgarn ist. Zumindest nicht die Sockenwolle.

But I have some knitting projects on the kneedles. First are mitts for playing the organ. (Churches in winter tend to be cold.) They are “made to measure but without a possibility to try them on beforehand” and after my own design. Yarn is “Meilenweit 50 Seta/Cashmere” by Lana Grossa. Feels nicely soft, but reminds me with each stitch, that Lana Grossa is not my favorite brands, at least for sock yarns.

Handstulpen FetchingZum Ausgleich für die großen Stulpen aus dünnem Garn stricke ich aber auch noch kleine fingerlose Handschuhe aus dickem Garn. Ich meine… wer seine Weihnachtswünsche so kurzfristig äußert, muß nehmen, was noch drin ist. Das Modell ist “Fetching” aus knitty, eine bewährte Anleitung.  Garn ist “Garzato Fleece” auch wieder von Lana Grossa. Ja, der Laden hat den Vorzug, daß er vom Büro aus mit etwas Glück tatsächlich mal so zwischendrin erreichbar ist. Und das ist jetzt eilig.

Not only big mitts on small needles, no I am also making small mitts with big needles. Christmas wishes at shirt notice means you have to take what you get. Pattern is “Fetching” from knitty, a TNT pattern. Yarn is “Garzatto Fleece”, again Lana Grossa. Well, I was in a hurry and that shop has the advantage to be pretty close to the office.

Und natürlich gibt es auch einen aktuellen Blick auf die ewige Hexagondecke. 289 ist hier der aktuellen Stand.

And of course a status update from my “eternal hexagons” project. I have 289 hexagons right now.
