One ball of yarn less

Zum Nähen bin ich noch nicht fit genug, aber ich kann wieder was zeigen, was schon länger fertig ist: Irgendwann ließ ich mich von einem Supersonderangebot verleiten, ein Restknäuel “Mega Stoppino” von Lana Grossa zu kaufen. Ich mochte die Farben und dachte, das könnte eine nette Mütze geben.

I am not fit enough to sew, but I can show you something I’ve made some time ago: Some day there was a super sale and I purchased one skein of “Mega Stoppino” by Lana Grossa. I liked the colors and thought one ball should make a hat.

Nur als ich auf die Suche nach Anleitungen ging fand ich nur welche, die wenigstens 95m oder besser 100m Garn verlangten. Mein Knäuel hatte aber nur gut 88m. 🙁

MützeBis ich bei Ravelry dann endlich auf den “Slip on Down Hat” von Anne Campbell stieß. Der hat ein geniales und materialsparendes Muster und kommt so mit 70m oder weniger aus. (Hier kann man die Anleitung herunterladen.)

Until I finally found the “Slip on Down Hat” by Anne Campbell via ravelry. The pattern is genius and a real material saver so you can do it with 70m oder less. (You can downlaod her pattern here.)

Jetzt habe ich eine schöne warme Mütze. Nur habe ich in den letzten Jahren ein paar andere Mützen gestrickt und eigentlich… brauche ich nicht noch eine. Meinem Mann würde sie zwar auch passen (Das Muster ist noch dazu wundervoll elastisch!) aber seltsamerweise will er sie nicht. Unerklärlich, oder? 😉

Now I have a nice and warm hat. Only I’ve made some other hats over the last years and finally… I don’t need another one. It would fit DH (the pattern is also so stretchy that it really fits any size!) but for some strange reason he doesn’t want it. Unbelievable, isn’t it? 😉

Golden Scrap Flowers

Auch von meinem Citron Tuch waren ja neun Meter Garn übrig geblieben. Ich wollte ja mal was anderes draus machen, aber die Anzahl der Anleitungen, die mit so wenig Garn auskommen halten sich wirklich schwer in Grenzen.

There were 9m yarn left from my Citron shawl. I was searching ravelry like crazy, but the number of patterns you can do with that bit of yarn is really few.

HäkelblütenAlso bin ich wieder bei der bewährten Scrap Flower Daisy von Kristin Mullen gelandet.

So I ended up again with Scrap Flower Daisy by Kristin Mullen.

Da mein Garn (Lana Grossa Babykid) ja keine fröhliche Blütenfarbe hat, habe ich ein wenig Gold mitlaufen lassen. Bei den zwei oberen Blüten war es M30 von Alterfil, bei der unteren der feine Stickfaden, auch von Alterfil. Weil das Ergebnis dann immer noch nicht sehr nach Blümchen aussah, habe ich noch mit verschiedenen Perlen gearbeitet. Jetzt geht’s, für eine Resteverwertung.

My yarn (Lana Grossa “Babykid”) did not have a typical color for flowers, so I decided to add some gold. The two upper bloom have added M30 by Alterfil, the lower one a fine embroidery thread also by Alterfil. Since I still was not happy with the result I added some beads. Now it’s okay, considering that it was made to use up my scraps.

Fuzzy Lemon

Schuld ist Angelika, die bereits letztes Jahr im Mai Bilder von einem Citron-Tuch in ihrem Blog zeigte. Das Muster fand ich extrem witzig und als ich dann selber mal wieder was “hirnloses” zum Stricken brauchte war es endlich so weit.

It’s the fault of Angelika who showed last year pics of Citron shawl in her blog. I’ve found the pattern cute and when the moment came where I needed some “brainless” knitting it became this.

CitronDa ich nicht extra Wolle kaufen wollte schnappte ich mir 2 Knäuel “Babykid” von Lana Grossa die ich mal im Schlussverkauf in der Casa Lana in Köln erworben hatte, in der irrigen Ansicht, es sei geeignet, um damit ein bißchen Lace stricken zu üben. (Ja, so lange habe ich das schon…) Nadelstärke 4 passte bei mir.

I didn’t want to buy yarn, but I had two skeins of “Babykid” by Lana Grossa which I had purchased on sale at Casa Lana in Cologne, believing it was good to test lace knitting. (Yes, it’s that long ago.) Needles 4mm were right.

Nun ja, für Lace ist das Garn nicht geeigent, dafür ist es zu dick und verfusselt auch zu stark mit sich selber, aber eine nettes Tuch gibt es. Die Rüsche mußte ich deutlich kürzen, für mehr als 5 Reihen hat es nicht gereicht. (Und da es über 500 Maschen sind, hatte ich keine Lust, das zurückzustricken und habe dann gegen Ende ständig gemessen, wie viel Garn ich pro Reihe brauche. Etwa 11 m für eine Reihe braucht die Rüsche, 9m sind jetzt übrig. Gut gerechnet. *uff* 🙂 )

Well, the yarn is not good for lace, it’s to thick and it clings to much to itself, but good for a nice shawl. I had to shorten the ruching part, there wasn’t more yarn than for 5 rows. (I did not feel like frogging the more than 500 stitches the last rows had, so I measured regularily how much yarn each row takes. On row takes 11m and I have 9m yarn left. Good guess. *ouff* 🙂 )

Das Tuch ist der perfekte “Nebenbeistrick”, denn bei glatt rechts gibt es nichts zu denken. Und man braucht auch viel Unterhaltung dazu, denn es ist so langweilig, wie es aussieht. Und die Reihen werden gegen Ende schon arg lang… *gähn*

This is a perfect “sideknit” because there is nothing to think and do besides stockinette. And you do need a lot of “entertainment” while knitting because it is as boring as it looks. The rows are getting looong in the end… *yawn*

Aber jetzt ist er fertig und nett. Ich weiß nur nicht recht, was ich damit machen soll. Um den Hals kann man ihn nicht legen und um sich einzuwickeln, ist er zu klein. Er gibt ein niedliches Minicape um die Schultern, wenn man ihn vorne mit einer Brosche schließt. Aber wozu trage ich so was? Naja, kommt Zeit, kommt Kleid (oder so). Oder er landet mal im Tausch. 🙂

But now it’s finished and it’s cute. Only I don’t know really what to make with it. It’s to short to wear it as a scarf and it’s to small to wrap yourself in. It makes a really cute capulet for the shoulders and closed with a brooch. But when and with what would I wear that? Well, comes time, comes dress (maybe). Or it’ll and up in a swap. 🙂

Karamell (Slipper socks)

Füßlinge mit LochmusterUnd noch mal Füßlinge, diesmal in einer luftigen Version mit kleinen Löchern, aber auch ganz einfach zu stricken.

More slipper socks/ liners. This time with cute and airy eylets, but also very easy to knit.

Als Garn waren diesmal etwa 35g “Meilenweit Cotton 50 Uni” von Lana Grossa am Start, die ich im Frühjahr bei Wolle Rödel in Bayreuth gefunden hatte.

Der Farbton kommt auf den Bildern nicht gut rüber, aber er hat den Namen inspiriert.

FüßlingeYarn is this time from Lana Grossa, “Meilenweit Cotton 50 Solid” and I had found it as a 50g skein at Wolle Rödel in Bayreuth.

The pics don’t do the color justice, but it’s the color of the yarn that inspired the name of the pattern.

Wer sie nachstricken mag findet hier findet hier die Anleitung für “Karamell”. Ich hoffe, es sind nicht zu viele Fehler drin…

… von der Challenge entfernt bin ich im Moment.

Socke mit Zopfmuster Durch die viele Rumfahrerei und dem Warten auf Züge stricke ich gerade wieder viel. Socken, denn die sind klein und handlich, passen in jede Tasche und wenn man mal weiß, wie es geht, braucht man auch keine Anleitung mehr.

Das bunte Garn, “Meilenweit Cotton Fun” von Lana Grossa fand ich vor einigen Monaten superbillig im Schlußverkauf. Und da ich von dieser Marke noch keine Socken gestrickt hatte, fand ich das zum Testen gerade richtig.

I’m miles away from the Challenge… instead of sewing I’m knitting a lot.

With all those trains I was using the last weeks, knitting is at least something usefull to do. The sewing machine is to heavy… and I wouldn’t get electricty in the train… So I’, knitting socks.

Socks are great projects for travel, because they are small, fit any bag and once you got the hang you don’t need any instruction sheet. And you can stop knitting any moment, to get off the train or on the next.

Some month ago I found “Meilenweit Cotton Fun” on sale and picked four balls. I’ve never tried this sockyarn before, so having it cheap for the test is nice…

My socks I like for the yummy colours! All sweets… chocolat-brown and pink and orange like sugery 100% artificial flavoured sweets I loved as child (and my mother never allowed me to have…) just für the colour.

A little less happy I was while knitting… I tend to be a loose knitter and the yarn then is very slippery. I hardly could knit it on metal needles and had to buy me wooden ones… (I don’t regret that…) That worked quite well, except that even using size 2 (metric) needles I couldn’t produce the same gauge as the producer proposed. And they proposed using needles 2,5 – 3. And I couldn’t get finer needles. At least in metal they exist, if only the shops had them… So the socks are knit more loosely than I had preferred.

Männersocke Meine Socken auf dem oberen Bild liebe ich für die leckeren Farben. Schokoladen-braun mit pink und orange, das mich an zuckersüße, 100% künstlich armonatisierte Süßigkeiten meiner Kindheit erinnern. Die mir meine Mutter natürlich nie erlaubt hat… 😮

Beim Stricken hingegen liebe ich das Garn etwas weniger. Ich stricke eher locker und das Garn ist sehr glatt. Auf Metallnadeln war es kaum möglich, ohne ständig Nadeln zu verlieren, also mußte ich mir leider Bambusnadeln kaufen. So ein Pech aber auch…. *g* Damit ging es ganz gut. Allerdings bekam ich die angegebene Maschenprobe nicht einmal mit 2er Nadeln hin. Und die Banderole empfiehlt 2,5 – 3. Dünnere Nadeln hatte ich nicht gefunden, es gibt sie, zumindest in Metall, nur leider führt sie mal wieder keiner… Also sind die Socken letztlich etwas lockerer gestrickt, als ich das gerne hätte.

Eine weitere Lehre: jedes Muster ist an dieses Garn verschwendet. Meine Socken haben Zöpfe, die meines Mannes links eine kleine Perlmusterraute. Nichts zu sehen? Ja, genau… das ist das Problem. Und nur glatt rechts ist mir ja immer ein kleines bißchen langweilig.

Das Garn mustert komplett wild, was einem schon mal die Mühe erspart, auch nur zu versuchen, zwei identische Socken hinzubekommen. Ist eh egal…

Also so ganz hat mich das Garn nicht überzeugt… Vielleicht versuche ich es mit dünneren Nadeln noch mal (Frau mhs hat mir aus der Erbmasse ihrer Mutter ein Spiel in Stärke 1,75 geborgt), aber vermutlich nicht in der gemusterten Garnvariante.

Ich habe ja auch noch… für meine Socken habe ich etwa 60g gebraucht, für die meines Mannes ungefähr 80g. Und irgendwas werde ich mit den Resten ja machen müssen…

Another lesson learned: Any pattern is wasted on this yarn. Can you guess from the pictures, what I did? Well… mine were done with a lot of cabeling, my husbands have a small seed-stitch (I think it’s called thus) motiv. Well… lost. Only just knitting without any pattern is boring…

The yarn doesn’t create any recognizable design, so I didn’t even try to match the socks… One wouldn’t see the difference.

To resume: I’m not completely convinced to use that yarn again. Maybe I’ll try again with finer needles (Frau mhs lend me some 1,75 from her mother), but not in the variegated yarn.

I will have to, there’s some yarn left. My socks took only about 60g, my husbands about 80g. So I’ll have to use up the leftovers…

UPDATE: Ich habe meine Socken inzwischen nicht nur getragen, sondern auch gewaschen. Die Farbe ist dabei merklich verblaßt. 🙁 Das finde ich dann doch etwas enttäuschend.

UPDATE: Meanwhile I’ve washed my socks. The colours faded visibly. 🙁 So I’m no longer “not completely convinced”, but decieved from this yarn.
