Fresh look on needles: August 2014

WickelbluseAuch diesen Monat ungelöst: Das Paßformproblem der Wickelbluse. Allerdings habe ich jetzt einen Lösungsansatz…. ich habe nämlich eine blau gefärbte Baumwollspitze gefunden, die farblich genau passt. Ich werde die Spitze einfach in die Seitennähte einsetzen. Dann wird die Bluse etwas weiter und das sollte den Zug vorne weg nehmen…

Still unsolved: The blouse still does not keep closed. But I have a new idea for a solution… I found a piece of lace, dyed in a matching blue, in my stash. I think I will open the side seams and insert the lace. So the top becomes a bit wider and should pull less at the front. 

BH BügelAuch mein BH ist noch nicht fertig. Die Bügelspitzen haben jetzt aber die ersten zwei Schichten Lack…

My bra isn’t finished either. But the cut wires have the first two layers of varnish…

RockWie zu erwarten hat sich auch an meinem Sweat-Rock nicht viel getan. Es gibt eine rückwärtige Mittelnaht und viele Knitter, weil er jetzt zwei Monate gefaltet in der Schublade lag.

As expected no real progress on my skirt. The back middle seam is closed also and it has a lot of creases from laying folded in a drawer for two months.

SeidenkleidDafür hat sich der Haufen Folienschnitteile nicht nur in ein Testkleid verwandelt, sondern das endgültige Kleid ist auch fertig. Es fehlt nur noch der Saum. (Was allerdings auch nötig ist, denn ich habe auch nur noch einen Nähtag….) Die Versäuberung mit Schrägband mache ich mit der Maschine, der Rest ist Handarbeit. Das heißt, notfalls kann ich es auch noch vor Ort machen, kurz vor der Feier…

But all those pattern pieces on plastic sheet did not only turn into a test dress but the “real” dress is nearly finished also. Only the hem is missing. (Which is very necessary, because I have only one sewing day left….) The binding for the hem allowance I will sew with the machine, but the rest will be hand stitches. Means in the worst case I can do it last minute before the party…

MützeAuch die Mütze sieht unverändert aus. Das täuscht allerdings. Nachdem ich auf der Ravelry Seite zur Anleitung doch eine Angabe zur Maschenprobe gefunden habe, habe ich die Mütze aufgetrennt und größer neu gestrickt. Und dann noch mal komplett geribbelt und mit zwei Maschen weniger ein drittes Mal gestrickt, weil das Garn nicht reichte…

The hat also looks unchanged. But that is wrong. Since I finally found informations about the gauge on the raverly page of the patter I frogged everything and started again bigger. Then I frogged it for a second time and restarted with 2 stitches less, because the yarn was not enough….

SockenGanz neu sind die Socken. Die sind nicht für mich und sollen eine speziell feste Sohle haben, weil sie eher so zum Lümmeln auf dem Sofa sein sollen.

Just started are those new socks. They are not for me and are supposed to have an extra stable sole, because they will not be worn in shoes, but on the sofa.

gehäkelte HexagonsGroßen Fortschritt bei meinen Hexagons, ich habe nämlich 405, also bin ich fertig. Da ich mich aber noch nicht entscheiden kann, wie ich es zusammenhäkle, werde ich noch ein paar mehr häkeln, um meine Farbauswahl zu vergrößern.

Big progress with my hexagons, I have 405 now, so I am oficially finished. But since I can’t decide how to crochet it together I will continue a bit to create a bigger choice of color combinations.

Inzwischen sind es ganz schön viele Projekte… ich hoffe, bis November oder so habe ich das mal wieder etwas reduziert…

That are a bit more projects than I normally like… I hope to reduce the number by November or so….

Last Pink Socks

SockenMein rosa und rosa gestreiftes Garn von Lidl (Crelando Anika) reichte noch für ein drittes Paar Socken.

My pink and pink selfstripeying yarn (Crelando Anika) was enough for a third pair of socks.

Diesmal sind die Spitze, die Ferse und das Bündchen geringelt, der Rest (weitgehend) längs gestreift. Die Verteilung ergab sich daraus, daß ich deutlich weniger rosa als gestreiftes Garn hatte. Außerdem habe ich den Beinteil noch kürzer gemacht.

This time toe, heel and cuff are striped, the rest is (mostly) split half. The distribution is due to the amount of yarn that was left. Much more stripeying than pink.I also made the leg part a bit shorter than usual.

Aus 200g Garn bekomme ich also locker drei Paar Söckchen für mich und es sind noch 15g rosa und 39g Streifengarn übrig. Das reicht dann bis auf weiteres erst mal mit rosa…

So 200g of yarn makes easily three pair of short socks for me and there is still 15g pink and 39g stripeying yarn left. I think that is enough pink for some time…

Stitch Meditation…

… klingt besser als Stopfen.

… sounds better than darning.

StopfsticheMein Bruder hat mal wieder Socken mit Löchern abgeliefert. Und da es deutlich einfacher ist, die “fast Löcher” zu verstärken als richtige Löcher zu stopfen habe ich auch alle dünnen Stellen verstärkt.

My brother gave me some socks for darning. And since it is much easier to strengthen “nearly holes” than darning real holes, I took my chance to strengthen all thin patches.

Die Socken im Bild hat er schon 2007 bekommen. Allerdings stopfe ich die auch schon zum zweiten mal, das erste Mal kam schnell, aber die damals verstärkten Stellen halten noch. Die Edelweiß-Socken haben hingegen gut zwei Jahre gehalten. Nicht gerade die tollste Haltberkeit für Sockengarn. Aber ich habe jetzt eine gute Vorstellung davon, wo mein Bruder Socken typischerweise durch läuft und werde mal sehen, ob mir da für die Zukunft eine sinnvolle Verstärkung einfällt.

The socks in the pic were from 2007. But those I had already repeared shortly afterwards giving them to him. Though the patches I had strengthened then last well. The Edelweiss socks kept a bit more than two years. Not to great performance for sock yarn. But with all that long time repairwork I got a good idea where my brother stresses his socks most. My next challenge will be to find a good way to make exactely those parts stronger while knitting.

Failed Socks

SockenAlso es sind Socken und man kann sie anziehen, aber geplant waren sie anders…

Okay, they are socks and will keep my feet warm, but they were planned differently…

Die Anleitung von Ramona Schellenberger nennt sich Ein kleiner Trick und soll eine optische Täuschung erzeugen. Was sie erkennbar nicht tut. Die Anleitung ist ein wenig verwirrend, weil die Schemazeichnung nicht von rechts nach links geschrieben ist (also in Strickrichtung und wie alle anderen Schemazeichnungen, die mir in mehr als 30 Strickjahren unter gekommen waren) sondern von links nach rechts. Das habe ich auch gesehen, und bei der ersten Socke ging alles glatt. Im Grunde genommen muß man nur in Reihe 1 und in Reihe 4 aufpassen, danach ergibt sich der Rest von selber.

The pattern Ein kleiner Trick  by Ramona Schellenberger is supposed to create an optical illusion. If you don’t see any.. that is correct. The pattern is a bit confusing. All chart I’ve had in more than 30 years of knitting were written from right to left, in the direction of knitting. This one not, it is drawn from left to right. I did well see it and for the first sock everything went fine. It is not to complicated, you actually have to look only in row 1 and row 4, the rest comes automatically. 

Dummerweise saß ich beim Übergang zu Reihe 4 der zweiten Socke in der Straßenbahn, warf daher nur einen ganz kurzen Blick auf das Schema… und strickte dann logischerweise in die falsche Richtung. Aber gut, es sind Socken, sie halten die Füße warum und ich werde mir mit einem anderen Garn irgenwann das Muster noch mal vor nehmen.

Only when I was doing the transition from row 3 to 4 I was sitting in some public transport, so I just glanced for a moment on the chart… and went to the wrong direction of course. But okay, they are socks and will do their job of keeping my feet warm. But I think I will give the pattern another try one day with another yarn.

Das Garn nennt sich “Hot Socks Nil” von Gründl, war nicht sehr teuer und wie zu erwarten sieht man das. Die langen Farbverläufe mag ich, aber nicht, daß das Garn mittendrin (kurz vor der Spitze der zweiten Socke) geknotet war und da dann ganz offensichtlich eine Farbe auch weitgehend fehlte…. Schade um den Farbverlauf.

The yarn is called “Hot Socks Nil” by Gründl, was not very expensive and that does show. (Not a real surprise…) I like the long color runs, but that there was a fat knot short before the toe of the second sock and then one color was missing nearly completely… I was not to thrilled about that. A pity for the nice color run.

(Pre)Summer Project Overview: June 2014

Wickelbluse Gewisse Bilder werden wohl allmählich Tradition. Die Wickelbluse hängt unverändert da, wo sie nicht stört und ich habe auch nicht wunderbarerweise 10 kg abgenommen. Da jetzt aber erst mal Sommer und ein Projekt mit “Ablaufdatum” angesagt ist, wird sich da vor September oder Oktober sicher nichts dran ändern.

Some pictures become a tradition. The wrap blouse is unchanged at the place where it doesn’t disturb anyone and I have not lost miraculously 10kg,. But now it’s summer and I have a project that has a dead line, so nothing will change here until September or October.

BH Ähnliches gilt für den BH. Hier sind die Bügel inzwischen gekürzt, aber noch nicht rund geschliffen und erst recht nicht versiegelt. Das könnte ich aber mal zwischendrin angehen.

Similar for the bra. There is some micro-progress: the wires have been cut, but they need “roundening” and a sealing. But I might go on with that before autumn.

Rock zugeschnittenVon meinem Frühlingsprojekt gibt es immerhin Anfänge eines Rockes. Schnitt gebastelt, Abnäher genäht, Reißverschluss eingesetzt und die Belege der Schlitzkante angenäht. Doch auch das ruht vermutlich bis Herbst.

My springproject has a started skirt. I altered the pattern to match the style, darts closed, zipper sewn and facings of the front opening added. But that will probably stay as it is until autumn.

Schnitt auf Folie Mein zeitkritisches Projekt ist noch wenige spetakulär, aber wichtige Schritte getan: Den Schnitt (Vogue 8846) auf Folie kopiert und meine üblichen Änderungen vorgenommen. Als nächstes werde ich aus den “Basisteilen” ein Probekleid nähen, das dann ein normales Sommerkleid werden soll. Ich habe schon ein paar Stoffe dafür aus meiner Kiste gekramt und muß mich nun festlegen, welcher es werden soll.

My “deadline” project isn’t spectacular yet, but important steps are done: I copied the pattern (Vogue 8846) on plastic sheet and made my usual alterations. Now I’ll sew a test dress (using only the “basic” pattern pieces) which I hope to become a normal summer dress. I picked some cotton fabrics from my stash and will have to decide, which one I’m going to take.

MützeStricktechnisch liegt natürlich auch einiges herum. Ein Button Up Hat der seit einigen Wochen fertig gestrickt ist, dem aber die namensgebenden Knöpfe noch fehlen.

Of course there is also some knitting going on. Here a Button Up Hat which I’ve finished knitting some weeks ago, only missing the buttons. 

SockeUnd natürlich nicht ganz überraschend auch Socken. Die dann meine “rosa Socken” Phase hoffentlich beenden. Weil dann das Garn weitgehend aufgebraucht sein wird. (Das ist die erste Socke und das Muster ist so geplant, daß das Garn hoffentlich auch zwei Socken ergibt.)

Probably no surprise there are also some socks on my needles. I hope they will end my “pale pink socks” period. Because the yarn will be mostly finished then. (That’s the first sock and the pattern is planned in a way it will hopefully make two socks.)

HäkelgranniesUnd zum Abschluss noch ein Blick auf meine Hexagons, die auf 373 angewachsen sind.

And I am finishing with a view on my Granny Hexagons which are 373 meanwhile.

Neben dem Stricken, was ja vor allem nebenbei läuft wird also in nächster Zeit vor allem das Vogue Kleid im Vordergrund stehen.

Besides knitting, which is always a kind of crafty “side dish” for me the Vogue dress will be the most important one for the next two months.

 

Amphorensocke

Amphora Sock

SockeHier habe ich noch mal mit dem Stitch Surfer Prinzip gespielt. Die Idee war die Form einer alten Amphore, die sich bauchig nach außen wölbt und wieder tailliert. Natürlich nach einem Zufallsprinzip.

I’ve played again with the stitch surfer principle. The idea was an antique amphora that curves out and in. For me at random, of course.

Also habe ich nach dem Anschlag angefangen nach außen zu gehen für zwei Farbrapporte lang und dann wieder nach innen, auch für zwei Farbrapporte. Und so weiter. (Garn war wieder das Sockengarn “Anika” von Crelando/ Lidl).

So I started with curving out for two color repeats on the yarn, then going in, again for two color repeats. (Yarn was again the sock yarn “Anika” by Crelando/ Lidl).

SockenFaszinierenderweise hat sich das auf den beiden Socken völlig unterschiedlich entwickelt… Bei der einen Socke spielen sich die Kurven am Rand und fast auf der Sohle ab, bei der anderen verengt es sich mehrfach auf einen schmalen Steg. Die ersten beiden Farbrapporte scheinen die Richtung dauerhaft vorzugeben. (Was nicht ganz überraschend ist, aber das es so extrem sein würde, darauf war ich nicht ganz gefasst. Aber ich mag es ja asymmetrisch.)

It is fascinating that the waving develops so differently on the two socks… One sock has the curves mostly on the sides of the foot or even on the back, the other one converges to the minimum twice. So the first two color repeats seem to be important for the development of the rest of the sock. (That is not completly surprising, but I had not thought it would be that extreme. But I like it asymetrical.)

Jetzt sind noch gut 50g von dem gestreiften und ca 20g von dem rosa Garn übrig. Das sollte noch ein drittes paar Socken geben…

Now remain a bit more than 50g of the stripeing yarn and about 20g of the pink. That should make a third pair of socks…

Stitch Surfer III

SockenVon dem Stitch Surfer kann ich ja die Nadeln immer noch nicht lassen.

I can’t let my needles off the Stitch Surfer pattern.

Diesmal habe ich noch unregelmäßigere Socken produziert.

This time my socks were even more irregular.

Ich habe hier die “Surfrichtung” nicht parallel gewechselt, sondern versetzt. Sozusagen jeden Tag eine Richtung gewechselt. Dadurch ist auch die Verteilung von rosa und geringelt nicht gleichmäßig.

SockenThis time I changed the direction of “surfing” not parallel, but one side at a time. Basically I changed direction for one of the “sides” on one day and for the other side on the other day. So even the distribution of pink and self-stripeing is not regular.

Warum ich rosa genommen habe kann ich nicht sagen. Aber das Garn war da und mir war gerade ausgeprägt nach babyrosa. Ist das der Frühling?

I can’t say why I choose this color. Except it was there and I did feel like this. Is that because it was spring?

Socken Das Garn ist ein ganz billiges von Lidl, Ravelry kennt es als “Crelando Anika”. Normale Sockenqualität, fühlt sich aber schon beim Anfassen etwas rauh an (Socken und Handschuhe okay, Tuch oder Schal würde ich  nicht haben wollen) und nach dem ersten Tragen in Schuhen sind die Socken auch schon erkennbar “gestresst”. Also nicht gefilzt oder pillig, aber die Oberfläche erkennbar rauher als bei vielen teureren Garnen. Aber bei den Preis ist das nicht völlig überraschend und warm sind sie.

The yarn is a very cheap one from the Discounter Lidl. Ravelry lists it as “Crelando Anika”. It is the normal sock wool blend, but felt a bit rough from the beginning. (IMHO fine for socks or also mitts, but I would not like to have a scarf or shawl from it.) Also after having worn the socks within shoes for some hours I have to state, that the surface looks “stressed”. Not really felted or pilling, but you can see there are more stray fibers than I know that from more expensive brands. But for that price that does not come as a real surprise and the socks are warm.

Spring Overview April 2014

Wickelbluse Der neue Überblick fängt mit einem alten Photo an. An der Wickelbluse und deren Problematik hat sich nämlich noch nichts getan. Bzw. nichts, was zu einem Ergebnis geführt hätte. Aber ich arbeite noch dran und habe nicht vollends aufgegeben.

The new overview starts with an old photo. The wrap top and the problem are still where they were two months ago. There is something I am working on, but that takes time. But I have not given up completely.

BH

Damit sich die fast fertige Bluse nicht so alleine fühlt, gibt es einen fast fertigen BH (Élan 511) dazu. Hier sind noch die Bügel zu kürzen, die Enden zu versiegeln (wofür ich immer noch keine dauerhaft wirksame Methode gefunden habe…) und dann das Bügelband zu verschließen.

My nearly finished top needn’t feel lonely, I added a nearly finished bra (Élan 511). The wires need shortening and then I have to seal the ends (where I still haven’t found a really satisfying technique for) and close the wire tunnel.

clutchthreads1401Das nächste Projekt ist auch schon in den Startlöchern: Eine (bzw. mehrere) Clutch nach der Anleitung aus der Threads vom November 2013. Nach der kleinen und wenig bemaßten Schemazeichnung die Schnitteile herstellen war nicht so ganz einfach… Inch-Maße lassen da viel Spielraum.

The next project is already waiting: One (or several) clutch after the instructions from Threads from November 2013. Making the pattern with those tiny schematics which give only few clear measurements was not easy. Having everything in inch does not help precision…

mutu1311Auch fast fertig ist mein Strickkleid. Hier muß noch eine Spitze am Saum gegen genäht werden. Ich hoffe, dann rollt er sich nicht mehr. Grau war das beste, was ich bekommen konnte, da ich sie gerne elastisch wollte. Damit ich es tragen kann, wird es noch ein Unterkleid brauchen (die Armausschnitte gehen arg tief), aber das hat dann ein paar Monate Zeit… bis nächsten Winter.

My knitted dress is also nearly finished. I have to sew on the lace to the left side of the hem. Grey was the best I could get and I hope It won’t roll after that. To wear the dress I will need a kind of a slip (the armholes are veeery low) but that is not urgent. I hope I will not need it before next winter or at least autumn.

sock1409Fast fertig sind die nächsten Socken. Eine weitere (noch wildere) Variation auf das Stitch Surfer Muster. Keine Ahnung, warum rosa, aber mir war gerade danach….

Nearly finished the next socks, Another (even wilder) variation of the Stitch Surfer pattern. No idea why I choose this color, but I kind of felt like it…

mogr1404Den aktuellen Hexagonstand will ich euch natürlich auch nicht vorenthalten… hier bin ich inzwischen bei 345, das Ende ist schon fast zu sehen. Vermutlich noch dieses Jahr. Zumindest was die Hxxagons betrifft, sie alle zu einer Decke zusammenzufügen ist dann noch mal eine andere Geschichte…

Of course you will not miss the update on my hexagon project… I’ve crocheted 345 so far. I can nearly see the end. Probably this year. At least for the hexagons, making them into a plaid will be another story.

buch1401Ergänzend diesen Monat noch einen Blick auf die aktuelle Bettlektüre. Das gelbe Buch muß ich bis Ende des Monats mehr oder weniger auswendig können (was weniger dramatisch ist, als es klingt, weil ich nur die Unterschiede zur vorherigen Auflage neu “lernen” muß, das ist nicht so viel) und zu dem anderen kann ich noch nichts sagen. Das liegt da seit zwei Tagen, aber reingelesen habe ich noch nicht.

Additionally a look on my bedside lecture. The yellow book I have more or less to know by heart until end of the month (what is less dramatic than it looks, because I only have to “learn” what is different from the last edition and that is not that much) and for the other one I can’t say anything yet. It sits on the table for two days, but I haven’t read a word of it.

 

Sehr asymmetrische Socken

Very asymmetrical socks

Asymmetrisch bzw. gespiegelt sind die Socken Wendel (gefunden auf ravelry) ja ohnehin gedacht, aber diese sind noch etwas asymmetrischer als geplant. Die Anleitung hatte mich etwas verwirrt, so daß ich den ersten Schaft in die falsche Richtung “gedreht” habe.

The socks Wendel (found on ravelry) are supposed to be mirrored, but mine got even more asymmetrical. I got a bit confused by the instructions and finally “turned” the first leg in the wrong direction.

Da die Socken aber zum Geburtstag meines Bruders fertig sein mußten und ich es erst merkte, als ich mit der zweiten Socke anfing… war auftrennen keine Option.

Since the socks had to be finished for my brothers birthday and I only found out the mistake after having started the second one… ripping everything was not an option.

Aber das Muster finde ich schön, für “männliche” Sommersocken. Das Garn war Lana Grossa “Meilenweit Soja”. Ich bleibe dabei, daß Lana Grossa nicht mein Lieblingsgarn ist, es drillt immer ein wenig und die vielen verschränkten Maschen abzustricken, ohne daß es sich aufspleißt war auch nicht immer einfach, aber es ging. Glücklicherweise habe ich den Schaft um einen Rapport gekürzt und auch die Spitze etwas kürzer gemacht, denn wie Viscose-Garne meistens, läuft auch dieses kürzer als “normales” Sockengarn. (Wobei es wieder spannend ist, daß bei dem einen 50g Knäuel nur etwas mehr als ein Meter übrig war, beim anderen deutlich mehr…)

But anyhow, I like the pattern for “male” summer socks, airy, but not girly-lacey. The yarn was “Meilenweit Soja” by Lana Grossa. Still not myfavorite brand, the yarn tends to twist a bit around itself and with all those twisted stitches it tends to split. Luckily I made the leg part shorter by one repeat and also made the toe a bit shorter. Otherwise the yarn would not have been enough. Like all viscose yarns it runs shorter than “normal” sock yarns. (Interestingly from one skein a little more than one meter was left, from the other one quite some more…)

Nun ja, entweder mein Bruder merkt es nicht oder er muß damit leben. 😮

Well, either my brother wont see it or he will have to live with it. 😮

Socken mit “Wumm”

Socks that rock

Jetzt kann ich auch allmählich mal die Weihnachtsgeschenke zeigen… die traditionellen Socken für meinen Bruder kommen mit “Wumm”, nämlich aus dem herrlichen Neongarn (orange) von Schachenmayr. Regia Trend Point nennt es sich und hat die übliche Sockenqualität. Dazu noch “Feria Ariane”, wohl ein Aldi Garn, was ich mal in einem Tausch bekommen habe.

It’s time to show the Christmas presents I made… the traditional socks for my brother come with power. Schachenmayr has a lovely neon (orange in my case) sock yarn, called Regia Trend point. The black is “Feria Ariane” from a swap, I think it comes from Aldi.

Die Anleitung ist von Karin Aida und nennt sich Biohazard Socks. Das Muster ist eigentlich für Damensocken gedacht, daher bin ich eine viertel Nummer mit den Nadeln hochgegangen (gegenüber meiner üblichen Nadelgröße) und habe vorne noch einige Reihen eingefügt. Es könnte sein, daß sie jetzt etwas zu lang sind… naja, kann man notfalls auch wieder raustrennen. Erst mal sehen, was die Rückmeldung dazu ergibt. Außerdem habe ich Toe Up gestrickt, da das Muster als Strickschrift daher kommt, war das nicht so schwierig.

The pattern is Biohazard Socks by Karin Aida. Normally the size is for women’s socks, so I used 0.25 mm more in needle size than I would normally have and I added some rows after the toe. (Mine are knitted toe up, which is easy to adapt, the pattern is charted.) It might be they are a bit too long now, but worst case I can remove some rounds. So let’s see…)

Angezogene Photos gibt es diesmal nicht, der “Eigentümer” bekam sie per Post und mein “Nofallmodell” war diesmal vor Weihnachten zu gestresst.

There are no “socks worn” pics this time. The “owner” got them shipped and my “emergency model” was too stressed before Christmas this year.
