Fresh look on needles: August 2014

WickelbluseAuch diesen Monat ungelöst: Das Paßformproblem der Wickelbluse. Allerdings habe ich jetzt einen Lösungsansatz…. ich habe nämlich eine blau gefärbte Baumwollspitze gefunden, die farblich genau passt. Ich werde die Spitze einfach in die Seitennähte einsetzen. Dann wird die Bluse etwas weiter und das sollte den Zug vorne weg nehmen…

Still unsolved: The blouse still does not keep closed. But I have a new idea for a solution… I found a piece of lace, dyed in a matching blue, in my stash. I think I will open the side seams and insert the lace. So the top becomes a bit wider and should pull less at the front. 

BH BügelAuch mein BH ist noch nicht fertig. Die Bügelspitzen haben jetzt aber die ersten zwei Schichten Lack…

My bra isn’t finished either. But the cut wires have the first two layers of varnish…

RockWie zu erwarten hat sich auch an meinem Sweat-Rock nicht viel getan. Es gibt eine rückwärtige Mittelnaht und viele Knitter, weil er jetzt zwei Monate gefaltet in der Schublade lag.

As expected no real progress on my skirt. The back middle seam is closed also and it has a lot of creases from laying folded in a drawer for two months.

SeidenkleidDafür hat sich der Haufen Folienschnitteile nicht nur in ein Testkleid verwandelt, sondern das endgültige Kleid ist auch fertig. Es fehlt nur noch der Saum. (Was allerdings auch nötig ist, denn ich habe auch nur noch einen Nähtag….) Die Versäuberung mit Schrägband mache ich mit der Maschine, der Rest ist Handarbeit. Das heißt, notfalls kann ich es auch noch vor Ort machen, kurz vor der Feier…

But all those pattern pieces on plastic sheet did not only turn into a test dress but the „real“ dress is nearly finished also. Only the hem is missing. (Which is very necessary, because I have only one sewing day left….) The binding for the hem allowance I will sew with the machine, but the rest will be hand stitches. Means in the worst case I can do it last minute before the party…

MützeAuch die Mütze sieht unverändert aus. Das täuscht allerdings. Nachdem ich auf der Ravelry Seite zur Anleitung doch eine Angabe zur Maschenprobe gefunden habe, habe ich die Mütze aufgetrennt und größer neu gestrickt. Und dann noch mal komplett geribbelt und mit zwei Maschen weniger ein drittes Mal gestrickt, weil das Garn nicht reichte…

The hat also looks unchanged. But that is wrong. Since I finally found informations about the gauge on the raverly page of the patter I frogged everything and started again bigger. Then I frogged it for a second time and restarted with 2 stitches less, because the yarn was not enough….

SockenGanz neu sind die Socken. Die sind nicht für mich und sollen eine speziell feste Sohle haben, weil sie eher so zum Lümmeln auf dem Sofa sein sollen.

Just started are those new socks. They are not for me and are supposed to have an extra stable sole, because they will not be worn in shoes, but on the sofa.

gehäkelte HexagonsGroßen Fortschritt bei meinen Hexagons, ich habe nämlich 405, also bin ich fertig. Da ich mich aber noch nicht entscheiden kann, wie ich es zusammenhäkle, werde ich noch ein paar mehr häkeln, um meine Farbauswahl zu vergrößern.

Big progress with my hexagons, I have 405 now, so I am oficially finished. But since I can’t decide how to crochet it together I will continue a bit to create a bigger choice of color combinations.

Inzwischen sind es ganz schön viele Projekte… ich hoffe, bis November oder so habe ich das mal wieder etwas reduziert…

That are a bit more projects than I normally like… I hope to reduce the number by November or so….

Es ist wieder Marmeladenzeit!

ErdbeermarmeladeIt’s confiture-time again!

Dieses Jahr hatte es ja mitten in der Erdbeerzeit ein Unwetter gegeben, so daß die Erdbeern am nächsten Wochenende auf dem Markt alle etwas angedätscht, aber dafür auch enorm billig waren. Da konnte ich nicht widerstehen und es gab Erdbeermarmelade.

This year there was some heavy rain at high strawberry season. So the next Saturday strawberrys were supercheap at the market, but only good for making preserves. So I couldn’t resist and made strawberry confiture.

Und als mein Mann dann einige Wochen später Himbeermarmelade kochen wollte, mußte ich endlich die Deckelchen sticken, damit wir sie nicht verwechseln… Gestickt wie immer, frei geführt im Stickrahmen. Die Form ist diesmal anders, nämlich tatsächlich rund geschnitten. Ich habe nämlich gerade von Clover den „5 in 1 sliding gauge“ zum Testen und damit geht das Kreise malen so schnell, daß der Aufwand noch drin ist. Und es sieht ja so viel netter aus…

Than DH announced he would be making rasperry confiture some weeks later. So now I had to hurry up to make the doilies for the jars, before we mix everything. They are free embroidery like always, but this year they are circles, not rectangles. I have the „5 in 1 sliding gauge“ by Clover to test it and drawing a circle on fabric goes so quickly with that item that it was worth the tiny extra amount of time. And looks so much nicer….

Rosie Rabbit

StofftierAuch einige Reste von meinem Kleid habe ich für einen kleines Kaninchen aus dem Aranzi Aronzo Buch genutzt. Da der Rosenstoff sehr dünn ist, habe ich ihn doppellagig mit meinem Unterlegstoff verarbeitet.

A part of the remnants of my dress were made into a little rabbit after my Aranzi Aronzo book. Since the rose fabric is really very thin and see through I underlined it with the same fabric as the dress.

Für Augen, Mund und Ohren habe ich Fleece verwendet und alles vor dem Zusammennähen aufgenäht. So geht es deutlich schneller als von Hand. Der großgemusterte Stoff gibt Rosie noch mehr Individualität. Finde ich.

I used fleece fabric for eyes, mouth and ears and I’ve sewn it on by machine before assembling the pieces. That is way faster than hand sewing. The fabric with the big print gives Rosie even more personality. I think.

My first „Macarons“

MacaronNun ist es passiert, auch ich konnte den kleinen französischen Spezialitäten nicht widerstehen und mußte es selber probieren…

Now It happened… I could not resist those tiny French specialities any longer. And had to try making some.

Da ich mir nicht sicher war, ob das so glückt, habe ich erst mal nicht groß Zutaten gekauft, sondern genommen, was da war. Rote Farbe und als Füllung eine Schokoladenganache.

Since I wasn’t sure if I could do it I did not buy ingredients or stuff but used what I had. So there was red dye and I made a choicolate ganache, which was very easy.

Man sieht… gar nicht so schlecht fürs erste Mal. 🙂 Als Opfer ist nur ein altes Sieb zu beklagen, da es schon rostig war, tat ihm das durchsieben der Mandeln wohl nicht so gut. Da brauche ich wohl ein neues. Und mehr Farben und Zutaten, das nächste Mal versuche ich es dann mit den ausgefallenen Rezepten aus meinem Rezeptbuch…

You see… not bad for the first time. 🙂 Only one victim, an old and already a bit rusty strainer… sieving the almonds through it was not so good for it. I’ll need a new one. And more dyes and ingredients. The next time I’ll try one of the more fancy combinations of my recipe bool…

(Pre)Summer Project Overview: June 2014

Wickelbluse Gewisse Bilder werden wohl allmählich Tradition. Die Wickelbluse hängt unverändert da, wo sie nicht stört und ich habe auch nicht wunderbarerweise 10 kg abgenommen. Da jetzt aber erst mal Sommer und ein Projekt mit „Ablaufdatum“ angesagt ist, wird sich da vor September oder Oktober sicher nichts dran ändern.

Some pictures become a tradition. The wrap blouse is unchanged at the place where it doesn’t disturb anyone and I have not lost miraculously 10kg,. But now it’s summer and I have a project that has a dead line, so nothing will change here until September or October.

BH Ähnliches gilt für den BH. Hier sind die Bügel inzwischen gekürzt, aber noch nicht rund geschliffen und erst recht nicht versiegelt. Das könnte ich aber mal zwischendrin angehen.

Similar for the bra. There is some micro-progress: the wires have been cut, but they need „roundening“ and a sealing. But I might go on with that before autumn.

Rock zugeschnittenVon meinem Frühlingsprojekt gibt es immerhin Anfänge eines Rockes. Schnitt gebastelt, Abnäher genäht, Reißverschluss eingesetzt und die Belege der Schlitzkante angenäht. Doch auch das ruht vermutlich bis Herbst.

My springproject has a started skirt. I altered the pattern to match the style, darts closed, zipper sewn and facings of the front opening added. But that will probably stay as it is until autumn.

Schnitt auf Folie Mein zeitkritisches Projekt ist noch wenige spetakulär, aber wichtige Schritte getan: Den Schnitt (Vogue 8846) auf Folie kopiert und meine üblichen Änderungen vorgenommen. Als nächstes werde ich aus den „Basisteilen“ ein Probekleid nähen, das dann ein normales Sommerkleid werden soll. Ich habe schon ein paar Stoffe dafür aus meiner Kiste gekramt und muß mich nun festlegen, welcher es werden soll.

My „deadline“ project isn’t spectacular yet, but important steps are done: I copied the pattern (Vogue 8846) on plastic sheet and made my usual alterations. Now I’ll sew a test dress (using only the „basic“ pattern pieces) which I hope to become a normal summer dress. I picked some cotton fabrics from my stash and will have to decide, which one I’m going to take.

MützeStricktechnisch liegt natürlich auch einiges herum. Ein Button Up Hat der seit einigen Wochen fertig gestrickt ist, dem aber die namensgebenden Knöpfe noch fehlen.

Of course there is also some knitting going on. Here a Button Up Hat which I’ve finished knitting some weeks ago, only missing the buttons. 

SockeUnd natürlich nicht ganz überraschend auch Socken. Die dann meine „rosa Socken“ Phase hoffentlich beenden. Weil dann das Garn weitgehend aufgebraucht sein wird. (Das ist die erste Socke und das Muster ist so geplant, daß das Garn hoffentlich auch zwei Socken ergibt.)

Probably no surprise there are also some socks on my needles. I hope they will end my „pale pink socks“ period. Because the yarn will be mostly finished then. (That’s the first sock and the pattern is planned in a way it will hopefully make two socks.)

HäkelgranniesUnd zum Abschluss noch ein Blick auf meine Hexagons, die auf 373 angewachsen sind.

And I am finishing with a view on my Granny Hexagons which are 373 meanwhile.

Neben dem Stricken, was ja vor allem nebenbei läuft wird also in nächster Zeit vor allem das Vogue Kleid im Vordergrund stehen.

Besides knitting, which is always a kind of crafty „side dish“ for me the Vogue dress will be the most important one for the next two months.

Grey Friends

Graue FreundeIch gab mich mal wieder dem nutzlosen Nähen hin… aus Stoffresten entstanden nach meinem Buch von Aranzi Aronzo diese beiden niedlichen Gesellen.

A bit of refreshingly useless sewing. Using some scraps from my last projects and patterns from my book by Aranzi Aronzo those cute guys were born.

Die Stoffe stammen von meinen letzten Projekten. Die graue Cargohose, die dazu gehörige Jacke und die Wickelbluse, für die ich aber noch keine Schnittkritik geschrieben habe, weil ich noch mit einer Verschlusslösung kämpfe, die sie tragbar machen würde. Die Haare sind Reste von den blauen Handstulpen, leider ist das Garn auch damit nicht aufgebraucht.

graue Freunde im GrasThe fabrics you have mostly already seen, there are the grey cargo-style pants, the jacket and then the wrap top. I haven’t postet the wrap top yet, because I am still fighting to find a closure solution that would make it wearable. The blue hair is leftover yarn from the blue hand warmers. It is still not used up…

Von der Anleitung bin ich mal wieder abgewichen, denn ich habe die Gesichter zuerst mit der Maschine genäht und danach die Figuren zusammengenäht. Die Augen und der Mund sind als „reverse Appliqué“ ausgeführt (gibt es da einen deutschen Begriff?), die schwarzen Pupillen aus Fleece dann aufgenäht. Und nachdem ich mir die Halsausschnitte der Kittel angeguckt hatte, habe ich diese zuerst angezogen und die Figuren danach erst gestopft.

I changed the instructions in so far that I made the faces first with the machine. Eyes and mouth are made in reverse apppliqué technique, the black pupils are sewn on top. And after I had evaluated the neckline of the tunics I decided to dress the dolls first and stuff them afterwards.

Sehen die für euch eigentlich wie Mädchen oder wie Jungen aus? Oder einer so, einer so?

Spring Overview April 2014

Wickelbluse Der neue Überblick fängt mit einem alten Photo an. An der Wickelbluse und deren Problematik hat sich nämlich noch nichts getan. Bzw. nichts, was zu einem Ergebnis geführt hätte. Aber ich arbeite noch dran und habe nicht vollends aufgegeben.

The new overview starts with an old photo. The wrap top and the problem are still where they were two months ago. There is something I am working on, but that takes time. But I have not given up completely.

BH

Damit sich die fast fertige Bluse nicht so alleine fühlt, gibt es einen fast fertigen BH (Élan 511) dazu. Hier sind noch die Bügel zu kürzen, die Enden zu versiegeln (wofür ich immer noch keine dauerhaft wirksame Methode gefunden habe…) und dann das Bügelband zu verschließen.

My nearly finished top needn’t feel lonely, I added a nearly finished bra (Élan 511). The wires need shortening and then I have to seal the ends (where I still haven’t found a really satisfying technique for) and close the wire tunnel.

clutchthreads1401Das nächste Projekt ist auch schon in den Startlöchern: Eine (bzw. mehrere) Clutch nach der Anleitung aus der Threads vom November 2013. Nach der kleinen und wenig bemaßten Schemazeichnung die Schnitteile herstellen war nicht so ganz einfach… Inch-Maße lassen da viel Spielraum.

The next project is already waiting: One (or several) clutch after the instructions from Threads from November 2013. Making the pattern with those tiny schematics which give only few clear measurements was not easy. Having everything in inch does not help precision…

mutu1311Auch fast fertig ist mein Strickkleid. Hier muß noch eine Spitze am Saum gegen genäht werden. Ich hoffe, dann rollt er sich nicht mehr. Grau war das beste, was ich bekommen konnte, da ich sie gerne elastisch wollte. Damit ich es tragen kann, wird es noch ein Unterkleid brauchen (die Armausschnitte gehen arg tief), aber das hat dann ein paar Monate Zeit… bis nächsten Winter.

My knitted dress is also nearly finished. I have to sew on the lace to the left side of the hem. Grey was the best I could get and I hope It won’t roll after that. To wear the dress I will need a kind of a slip (the armholes are veeery low) but that is not urgent. I hope I will not need it before next winter or at least autumn.

sock1409Fast fertig sind die nächsten Socken. Eine weitere (noch wildere) Variation auf das Stitch Surfer Muster. Keine Ahnung, warum rosa, aber mir war gerade danach….

Nearly finished the next socks, Another (even wilder) variation of the Stitch Surfer pattern. No idea why I choose this color, but I kind of felt like it…

mogr1404Den aktuellen Hexagonstand will ich euch natürlich auch nicht vorenthalten… hier bin ich inzwischen bei 345, das Ende ist schon fast zu sehen. Vermutlich noch dieses Jahr. Zumindest was die Hxxagons betrifft, sie alle zu einer Decke zusammenzufügen ist dann noch mal eine andere Geschichte…

Of course you will not miss the update on my hexagon project… I’ve crocheted 345 so far. I can nearly see the end. Probably this year. At least for the hexagons, making them into a plaid will be another story.

buch1401Ergänzend diesen Monat noch einen Blick auf die aktuelle Bettlektüre. Das gelbe Buch muß ich bis Ende des Monats mehr oder weniger auswendig können (was weniger dramatisch ist, als es klingt, weil ich nur die Unterschiede zur vorherigen Auflage neu „lernen“ muß, das ist nicht so viel) und zu dem anderen kann ich noch nichts sagen. Das liegt da seit zwei Tagen, aber reingelesen habe ich noch nicht.

Additionally a look on my bedside lecture. The yellow book I have more or less to know by heart until end of the month (what is less dramatic than it looks, because I only have to „learn“ what is different from the last edition and that is not that much) and for the other one I can’t say anything yet. It sits on the table for two days, but I haven’t read a word of it.

 

Grannie-Update 2013

Das Jahresupdate meines aktuellen Grannie-Stands will ich euch aber auch nicht vorenthalten. Ich habe alle wieder ausgepackt und festgestellt, daß es inzwischen 301 sind! Dreiviertel der Häkelarbeit ist also erledigt.

Of course there is the 2013 update of my grannie crochet project. I unpacked all I have for the photo and it’S 301 now! So I have 3/4 of the intended number.

(Mindestens. Denn ich habe jetzt über die Kleinanzeigen auf Hobbyschneiderin24 noch zwei Sorten Garn gekauft. Und ich denke, wenn ich dann so weit aufgebraucht habe, daß wieder nur noch drei Farben übrig sind, dann höre ich auf und so groß wie sie wird, wird sie dann halt. Ansonsten…. wenn ich im aktuellen Tempo weiterhäkle wäre ich April 2015 fertig.)

(At least 3/4. Because I just purchased some more yarn via the market of hobbyschneiderin24. And I think when all that is used up down to only 3 remaining colors I will stop crocheting and the blanket will be the size for which I have enough hexagons then. Should I do all 400 the prognostics say I would be finished april 2015.)

Und die Himbeermarmelade gleich noch hinterher…

And the raspberry confiture also…

Und nur wenige Tage später, habe ich es dann auch geschafft, die Himbeermarmelade zu versorgen. (Tja, mehr war dieses Jahr nicht…)

And only a few days later I managed to finish the raspberry confiture also. (Well, that was all we had this year…)

Die Stickerei kann man auf dem Stoff nicht wirklich gut lesen, aber es geht ja hauptsächlich darum, die verschiedenen Sorten und Jahrgänge im Lager im Keller auf einen Blick gut unterscheiden zu können. Und dazu ist der Stoff gut.

The embroidery isn’t really well visible on the fabric, but the main purpose is that you can see at a glance which kind of confiture and from which year it is when it is stored in the cellar. And that the fabric will do.

Ich hätte ja lieber was mit rot genommen (blau nahm ich bislang eher für die Brombeermarmelade), aber offensichtlich habe ich in den letzten Jahren nur noch blau genäht, deswegen gibt es keine roten Rest.

I would have preferred to take something red (because usually I took blue for the blackberry confiture), but seems I did only sew blue in the last years, so there are no red remnants left.

(Ja, ich weiß, ein völlig unweihnachtliches Thema… aber bis zu nächsten Sommer wollte ich es dann auch nicht liegen lassen.)

(Yes, I know, the topic is not at all Christmay, New Year or even winter related… but I didn’t want to keep it back until next summer.)

Peach Confiture in Winter?

Nein, natürlich koche ich nicht im Winter Pfirsichmarmelade. Die Pfirsiche hatten wir aus dem Sommerurlaub mitgebracht (eine ganze Steige aus Südfrankreich) und ich hatte sie auch damals brav verarbeitet.

No, of course I did not make peach confiture in winter. When returning from our summer holiday we had brought a batch of peaches from southern France and I made the confiture right away then.

Nur hatte ich dann tatsächlich keine Gelegenheit, die „Kappen“ zu nähen bzw. zu sticken. Zuerst waren die Stoffreste nicht zugänglich und danach waren ständig dringendere Projekte.

But then I never made it to sew/embroider the jar covers. First I couldn’t access my remnants and after that there were always more urgent project to do.

Aber jetzt ist das endlich erledigt und ich kann das gleiche für die Himbeermarlemade machen…

But now it is finally done and I can do the same for the raspberry confiture…
