Maschenkunst unterwegsAuch von unterwegs aus muß man mal schnell ins Netz, zum Beispiel vom Café in Paris aus, am Boulevard Sebastpol. Und natürlich ist das eine Gelegenheit, mal schnell auf der Maschenkunst Seite nachzugucken, was Daniela gerade neues macht.

Even when I travel I have to check what is going on in the internet, good possibility to profit from the WiFi connection in this Café at Boulevard Sebastopol in Paris. And of course I had to check on the Maschenkunst site what Daniela is doing.

Das Strickprojekt hat gewechselt, ich habe die gut tragbaren Edelweiss-Socken nach einer Anleitung von Barbara Gasteiger auf ravelry angeschlagen. (Und umgerechnet, denn die Socken sind in der Anleitung normal von oben gestrickt, ich bevorzuge aber Toe Up. Außerdem werden sie ein Geschenk für meinen Bruder und ich kann die Größe nicht vorher testen. Also versuche ich mich, die Anleitung an meine üblichen Maschenzahlen anzupassen.) Die Wolle ist diesmal von Wolle Rödel in Bayreuth und es ist “Strumpfgarn TOM Cotton” von Bärengarne. Ich habe das noch nie verstrickt, aber es fühlt sich viel weicher an, als die Baumwollsockengarne die ich bisher von Lana Grossa hatte.

As you can see I changed my project to portable socks. I started the Edelweiss socks by Barbara Gasteiger on ravelry. (I have to change the pattern, because the pattern knits top down and I prefer Toe Up. Also the socks are a gift for my brother and I can’t try them on, so I am trying to keep close to my usual stitch and row count.) The yarn is “Strumpfgarn TOM Cotton” by Bärengarne which I’ve purchased nearly one year ago at Wolle Rödel in Bayreuth. It knits up very soft, feels much softer than the cotton sock yarns from Lana Grossa that I have used so far.

Motiv 48Nachdem ich mit den Weihnachtssachen durch bin, kann ich auch noch ein paar andere Miniprojekte zeigen. Diesmal Motiv 48 aus dem Beyond the Square Buch, wieder mit Nadelstärke 4 und mit zwei Farbtönen “Morena” von Schachenmayr und einmal “Linen” von katia.

Wie man helle, kleine Sachen bei Kunstlicht vernünftig photographiert habe ich leider noch nicht raus. 🙁

Now I through with the Christmas stuff so I can show other tiny projects. Motif 48, again from Beyond the Square, again hook 4mm and using two colors of “Morena” by Schachenmayr and one “Linen” by katia.

How to take recognizable pics of small things in light colors by artificial light is something I definitely haven’t learned yet. 🙁

Motiv 48, Version 2Das Ergebnis hat mich nicht überzeugt, es war mir alles ein wenig zu locker und luftig. Außerdem zu groß.

Also noch mal das Gleiche, nur mit einer 3,5er Häkelnadel. Und auch wenn man nicht viel erkennt reicht es doch um zu sehen, daß das Motiv ein wenig dichter geworden ist. Aber nicht dicht genug…

I was not happy with my first result, it was to airy, to many holes  and not enough “substance”.

So I did it again using a 3.5mm hook. The pic is terrible but I think it shows the over all impression, the motif gained a bit densitiy. But it is not dense enough yet…

RER B on the Île de France gives you a quite bumpy ride, so this really primitive piece of knitting ie perfect.

(Natürlich immer noch das Zauberball Stärke 6 von Schoppel aus der Maschenkunst mit der Anleitung “Pop Block” aus knitty.)

Small Christmasy Things

MaschenmarkiererUnd her noch die letzten weihnachtlichen Kleigkeiten aus meiner Produktion: Die aktuelle “Mode” der Maschenmarkierer hat den Vorteil, daß man immer nette Kleinigkeiten für Mitstrickerinnen basteln kann.

Now the last small Christmas gifts from my production: Since stitchmarkers are coming into fashion more and more you can always make nice little gifts for fellow knitters.

Die beiden linken haben als Basis eine Schellackperle aus Indien, dazu Pailetten und Rocailles, die beiden rechten sind glaube ich ebenfalls aus Indien, sind aber normale Glasperlen in Fischform und wieder Rocailles dazu. (Ein Klick aufs Bild fördert eine größere Version zu Tage, auf der man mehr erkennt.)

The left ones feature a shellac bead from India together with seed beads and sequins, the right ones are fish shaped glass beads (maybe also from India) and again some seed beads. (If you click on the pic you’ll get a bigger version that shows more.)

Maschenkunst unterwegsDer Schal Pop Block ist ein gutes Stück gewachsen, auch wenn das Stricken länger dauert, als mir so lieb ist. Weil recht langweilig.

My Pop Block wrap/shawl grew quite a bite even though knitting takes longer than I like because it is very boring.

Allmählich ist er auch der Transportgröße entwachsen, aber nach Paris durfte er doch und er posiert vor dem “Chez Gladines” auf der Butte aux Cailles

I had started the second ball of “Zauberball Stärke 6” by Schoppel that I had purchased at Maschenkunst in December. So… last year.The project starts to outgrow the “easy transport” stage but it fits well the street in front of “Chez Gladines” on the Butte aux Cailles in Paris.

Die Wolle ist immer noch “Zauberball Stärke 6″ von Schoppe, inzwischen beim zweiten Ball angekommen. Gekauft, falls es jemand vergessen hat, im Dezember in der Maschenkunst. Also sozusagen im letzten Jahr.

Brothersocks

Mein Bruder latscht seine Socken ja schneller durch als ich sie stricken kann, also bekam er Weihnachten nicht nur zwei geflickte Paare zurück, sondern auch ein Paar neue gestrickt.

Socke in DoseMy brother walks through his socks quicker than I can knit them. So he got two pairs darned for Christmas and one pair new.

(I managed to pack all three pairs in the can that I had decorated with Christmas fabric.)

Ich habe es sogar geschafft, alle drei Paar in diese Dose zu stopfen, die ich mit Weihnachtsstoff bezogen habe.

Als Material habe ich diesmal Socks’ Wool “Lucca” von Schewe genommen und weil mein Bruder außerdem Löcher am Schaft des letzten Paares gemeldet hatte, habe ich einen Faden Alterfil AS120 mitlaufen lassen. Denn ich dachte, er hätte beim Anziehen den Schaft zerrissen. Inzwischen habe ich die Socke gesehen und bin schlaufer, die Löcher kommen ziemlich sicher von Motten. (Wenn jemand ein Mittel weiß, mit dem ich die Socken Mottensicher impregnieren könnte? Denn der Austausch von Mottenpapier im Schrank bei meinem Bruder scheint nicht so regelmäßig zu funktionieren.)

I used a yarn called Socks’ Wool “Lucca” by Schewe this time. And since my brother had reported holes in the leg/cuff region of the latest socks I tried to strengthen these by knitting a sewing thread Alterfil AS120 together with my sock wool. Because I had assumed, the holes came from pulling to strong while putting the socks on. Well, I’ve seen the damaged sock now and it looks very much like moths… (So if anyone knows something I could put on the socks to protect them let me know! My brother knows what moth repellent for the wardrobe is, but he does not seem to exchange it often enough.)

BrudersockenThe pattern is a very easy one, just knit and purl and I made it myself, like most of my sock patterns. (I guess I will make it a pattern once I have the time. It will be very beginner friendly and for all who want to try a pattern on a sock for the first time.) Though I think having it mirrored is a nice effect.

Das Muster ist ein sehr einfaches, nur rechte und linke Maschen und wie meistens bei meinen Socken. (Und ich denke, ich werde es aufschreiben und zum Download hinterlegen, wenn ich die Zeit dafür habe. Es wäre jedenfalls sehr anfängerfreundlich oder auch für alle, die statt Stinos mal was anderes versuchen wollen, aber immer Angst davor haben.) Und obwohl es ganz einfach ist, sieht es doch recht interessant aus, durch den gespiegelten Effekt.

My first Wollmeise

Auf meinen “Maschenkunst unterwegs” Bildern war der Schal ja schon immer mal zu sehen, jetzt an Weihnachten wurde er als Geschenk überreicht. Ich bin zum Glück nicht die einzige, die auf viele, viele Schals steht und meine Schwägerin strickt nicht selber. 🙂

The scarf was already visible on a few of my “Maschenkunst unterwegs” pictures, now on Christmas it was given to its new owner. Luckily my SIL loves scarfes, but doesn’t knit herself. 🙂

One hank “Sockenwolle 80/20 Twin” by “Wollmeise” in color “Flaschenpost” made one scarf.

SchalAus einem Knäuel “Sockenwolle 80/20 Twin” von Wollmeise in der Farbe “Flaschenpost” wurde also ein Schal.

Die Anleitung ist aus dem Buch 101 Designer One-Skein Wonders und nennt sich “Marialis End to End scarf”. Um zwei “schöne” enden zu bekommen wird auf der Anschlagseite mit einem vorläufigen Anschlag gearbeitet, der dann abgekettet wird. Wobei sich die eine Seite durch das Muster nett wellt, die andere nicht, von daher sind dann doch nicht beide Seiten gleich.

Ich habe in der Breite einen Musterrapport mehr genommen und da ich zum Glück mehr Garn hatte als die Anleitung vorsah reichte es trotzdem zu einem ausreichend langen Schal. Das Muster sieht sehr nett aus, ist aber einfach zu stricken. Übrig geblieben sind mir 5g Garn, das paßte also ganz gut.

The pattern used is “Marialis End to End Scarf” from 101 Designer One-Skein Wonders. The idea is to start with a provisional cast on to make two equally “nice” scarf ends, because both are casted off the same way. This only works out halfway, because due to the pattern one side is nicely curved, the other not.

I added one repeat widthwise to make the scarf wide enough and since I had more yarn than the pattern calls for it was enough to make a sufficiently long scarf. The pattern looks very nice, but is easy to knit and memorize. The restover are 5g of yarn, so that worked out well.

Lästig war nur der Geruch des Garnes. Vermutlich wird die Wolle nach dem Färben mit einem Haushaltswollwaschmittel (Perwoll oder so?) gewaschen und das ist parfümiert. Und darauf bin ich allergisch. Einen Schal zu stricken war grenzwertig, aber möglich (mit Pausen), Vergnüngen war es keines. Und ich habe noch drei Stränge, einer davon Lace Garn. Da werde ich wohl versuchen müssen, sie VOR dem Stricken zu waschen und zwar in der Maschine. Denn von ein bißchen Handwäsche geht der Waschmittelgeruch nicht raus. Das ist dann wohl der Preis für “handgefärbt”: unprofessionelles Waschmittel. 😮 (Industriegarne riechen nämlich nicht.)

What I was not happy about was the smell of the yarn. It probably is washed after dyeing with a household wool detergent (Perwoll or something?) and those are perfumed. And I am allergic against that. So knitting one scarf while taking enough brakes was doable, but not a pleasure. And I have three more hands, one of them is lace yarn. So I’ll have to prewash those BEFORE knitting and this will have to happen in the washing machine, because just soaking will not get the smell out. So that seems to be the price for “handdyed”: use of non professional detergents. :o) (Yarns dyed by industry do not have any smell.)

Needle statistics 2011

Auch dieses Jahr wieder ein Rückblick darauf, woher die Anleitungen so kommen, die ich genutzt habe. Wobei ich nur die Sachen “werte”, die ich auch 2011 im Blog vorgestellt habe, deswegen stimmt es nie ganz, aber da ich das in den anderen Jahren auch so gemacht habe, gleicht sich das dann wieder aus.

Again I take a short look back to check where the patterns came from I had been using the last year. Though it is not 100 percent accurate, because I am checking all projects I did show in the blog in 2011. Some things are finished but haven’t been shown yet. But that’s the way I am doing it every year, so it evens out in the end.

Auch 2011 haben meine Weihnachtssäckcken die Nähproduktivität nach vorne gebracht, viel mehr genähte Teile als gestrickte und gehäkelte.

Again in 2011 all my sewn little bags for Christmas created more sewn items than knitted or crocheted ones.

Fazit: Ich hatte subjektiv das Gefühl, ich hätte dieses Jahr fast nichts gemacht, aber so wenig war es gar nicht. Wobei sowohl bei den genähten als auch bei den gestrickten/gehäkelten Sachen sehr viel Kleinkram dabei war, der den Zähler natürlich gewaltig hochtreibt.

If you’d asked me before I would have said that I didn’t get anything done, but evidently this was not the case. Though there were a lot of small items, so the number sounds more impressive than it actually is.

Veröffentlicht habe ich im letzten Jahr 2 Schnitte zum Nähen und sechs Strickanleitungen, also treibt mich die Neugier, wie die denn woanders ankommen…

I published 2 sewing and 6 knitting patterns last year, so I am curious how others liked them…

Auf der Hobbyschneiderin Seite ist der Favorit der Schnitte eindeutig die Zickentasche mit 555 Downloads. (Der “Langzeitfavorit” dort ist Bär-Ta von 2010 mit 1273 downloads, aber die war mal auf der Startseite gefeatured, von daher zählt das nicht wirklich.) Bei den Strickanleitungen von 2011 liegt die Mütze Dark-Glam mit 150 Downloads vorne. (Und ist damit auch der derzeitige “Absolutfavorit” meiner Strickanleitungen.)

On the Hobbyschneiderin website is the most loved sewing pattern of 2011 Zickentasche with 555 downloads. (The all time favorite is Bär-Ta from 2010 with 1273 downloads, but that was featured on the start page for a time, so that doesn’t really count, I guess.) Most loved knitting pattern with 150 Downloads is the hat Dark-Glam and that makes it the “all time best” of my knitting patterns there also.

Anders die Interessenlage auf Ravelry, dort gefiel die Anleitung für die Gretel Füßlinge am besten und bekam 224 Herzchen. (16 Downloads auf der Hobbyschneiderin, das zeigt doch eine deutlich andere Interessenslage.) Der Langzeitfavorit dort ist dann auch die Hackensocke mit 627 Herzchen und 17 Projekten. (Auf der Hobbyschneiderin 40 Mal runtergeladen.)

Interessant, wobei das an meinen Anleitungen nichts ändern wird, denn die mache ich eh zuerst mal für mich, nicht um anderen zu gefallen. 🙂

Different picture on Ravelry. Most loved there is Gretel with 224 favorites. (16 downloads on Hobbyschneiderin for the same pattern, that shows that there are very different things interesting.) The long time favorite there is Heels for Flats which is favourited 627 times and has 17 projects. (On the Hobbyschneiderin Site it got downloaded 40 times since it got online in 2010.)

It is interesting how different the patterns are received, but it won’t change anything for my patterns. I am making those for myself, not to please others. 🙂

Maschenkunst unterwegsDie Aktion läuft zwar nicht mehr lange, aber ein bißchen bin ich doch noch unterwegs, diesmal in Bottrop.

Unschwer zu erkennen liegt ein neues Strickzeug unter dem Baum. Pop Block aus der aktuellen Knitty hat es mir angetan und das Garn ist “Zauberball Stärke 6” von Schoppel Wolle aus der Maschenkunst. Ganz frisch gekauft im Dezember.

The contest is nearly over, but I am still a bit around, so I have a picture from Bottrop.

And as you can easily see I did cast on something new, Pop Block from knitty, the yarn ist “Zauberball Stärke 6” by Schoppel Wolle, freshly purchased in December  at Maschenkunst.
