SockenVon dem Stitch Surfer kann ich ja die Nadeln immer noch nicht lassen.

I can’t let my needles off the Stitch Surfer pattern.

Diesmal habe ich noch unregelmäßigere Socken produziert.

This time my socks were even more irregular.

Ich habe hier die “Surfrichtung” nicht parallel gewechselt, sondern versetzt. Sozusagen jeden Tag eine Richtung gewechselt. Dadurch ist auch die Verteilung von rosa und geringelt nicht gleichmäßig.

SockenThis time I changed the direction of “surfing” not parallel, but one side at a time. Basically I changed direction for one of the “sides” on one day and for the other side on the other day. So even the distribution of pink and self-stripeing is not regular.

Warum ich rosa genommen habe kann ich nicht sagen. Aber das Garn war da und mir war gerade ausgeprägt nach babyrosa. Ist das der Frühling?

I can’t say why I choose this color. Except it was there and I did feel like this. Is that because it was spring?

Socken Das Garn ist ein ganz billiges von Lidl, Ravelry kennt es als “Crelando Anika”. Normale Sockenqualität, fühlt sich aber schon beim Anfassen etwas rauh an (Socken und Handschuhe okay, Tuch oder Schal würde ich  nicht haben wollen) und nach dem ersten Tragen in Schuhen sind die Socken auch schon erkennbar “gestresst”. Also nicht gefilzt oder pillig, aber die Oberfläche erkennbar rauher als bei vielen teureren Garnen. Aber bei den Preis ist das nicht völlig überraschend und warm sind sie.

The yarn is a very cheap one from the Discounter Lidl. Ravelry lists it as “Crelando Anika”. It is the normal sock wool blend, but felt a bit rough from the beginning. (IMHO fine for socks or also mitts, but I would not like to have a scarf or shawl from it.) Also after having worn the socks within shoes for some hours I have to state, that the surface looks “stressed”. Not really felted or pilling, but you can see there are more stray fibers than I know that from more expensive brands. But for that price that does not come as a real surprise and the socks are warm.

Eternal Snow…

Mütze… ist auch in braun hübsch. (Das ist eines meiner kleinen Projekte, die in den letzten Wochen fertig wurden, die ich aber noch nicht genzeigt habe…)

… can be pretty in brown also. (One of my small projects I had finished over the last weeks but not managed to show…)

Neige Eternelle hat Laurene Bassart diese Mütze getauft. Und ich fand die Anleitung perfekt, um den großen Rest der “Garzato Fleece” von Lana Grossa abzuarbeiten.

Laurene Bassart called this pattern Neige Eternelle. And I thought it was perfect to use up the quite large “remnant” of my “Garzato Fleece” by Lana Grossa.

Die Mütze wird mit verkürzten Reihen quer gestrickt und mit einer Naht geschlossen. Ein etwas ungewöhnliches Konzept, man bekommt so aber sehr einfach eine effektvolle Kopfbedeckung und der Zopf einmal rund um den Kopf gefällt mir wirklich gut.

The hat is knit with short rows and then closed with a seam. A bit unusual, but a very easy way for a very cute hat. And I like the braid running around the hat.

Da die Mütze verschenkt wird (der nächste Winter kommt bestimmt…) habe ich sie größer gestrickt als vorgesehen, sie ist aber elastische genug, um auch mir nicht über die Augen zu rutschen. Ich glaube… ich sollte mir selber auch eine stricken.

This hat will be a gift (there will be a next winter, I am pretty sure…) so I made it larger than the instructions said. But it has enough elasticity to keep on myl (smaller) head also. I think… I should one make for myself also…

Spring Overview April 2014

Wickelbluse Der neue Überblick fängt mit einem alten Photo an. An der Wickelbluse und deren Problematik hat sich nämlich noch nichts getan. Bzw. nichts, was zu einem Ergebnis geführt hätte. Aber ich arbeite noch dran und habe nicht vollends aufgegeben.

The new overview starts with an old photo. The wrap top and the problem are still where they were two months ago. There is something I am working on, but that takes time. But I have not given up completely.

Damit sich die fast fertige Bluse nicht so alleine fühlt, gibt es einen fast fertigen BH (Élan 511) dazu. Hier sind noch die Bügel zu kürzen, die Enden zu versiegeln (wofür ich immer noch keine dauerhaft wirksame Methode gefunden habe…) und dann das Bügelband zu verschließen.

My nearly finished top needn’t feel lonely, I added a nearly finished bra (Élan 511). The wires need shortening and then I have to seal the ends (where I still haven’t found a really satisfying technique for) and close the wire tunnel.

clutchthreads1401Das nächste Projekt ist auch schon in den Startlöchern: Eine (bzw. mehrere) Clutch nach der Anleitung aus der Threads vom November 2013. Nach der kleinen und wenig bemaßten Schemazeichnung die Schnitteile herstellen war nicht so ganz einfach… Inch-Maße lassen da viel Spielraum.

The next project is already waiting: One (or several) clutch after the instructions from Threads from November 2013. Making the pattern with those tiny schematics which give only few clear measurements was not easy. Having everything in inch does not help precision…

mutu1311Auch fast fertig ist mein Strickkleid. Hier muß noch eine Spitze am Saum gegen genäht werden. Ich hoffe, dann rollt er sich nicht mehr. Grau war das beste, was ich bekommen konnte, da ich sie gerne elastisch wollte. Damit ich es tragen kann, wird es noch ein Unterkleid brauchen (die Armausschnitte gehen arg tief), aber das hat dann ein paar Monate Zeit… bis nächsten Winter.

My knitted dress is also nearly finished. I have to sew on the lace to the left side of the hem. Grey was the best I could get and I hope It won’t roll after that. To wear the dress I will need a kind of a slip (the armholes are veeery low) but that is not urgent. I hope I will not need it before next winter or at least autumn.

sock1409Fast fertig sind die nächsten Socken. Eine weitere (noch wildere) Variation auf das Stitch Surfer Muster. Keine Ahnung, warum rosa, aber mir war gerade danach….

mogr1404Den aktuellen Hexagonstand will ich euch natürlich auch nicht vorenthalten… hier bin ich inzwischen bei 345, das Ende ist schon fast zu sehen. Vermutlich noch dieses Jahr. Zumindest was die Hxxagons betrifft, sie alle zu einer Decke zusammenzufügen ist dann noch mal eine andere Geschichte…

Of course you will not miss the update on my hexagon project… I’ve crocheted 345 so far. I can nearly see the end. Probably this year. At least for the hexagons, making them into a plaid will be another story.

buch1401Ergänzend diesen Monat noch einen Blick auf die aktuelle Bettlektüre. Das gelbe Buch muß ich bis Ende des Monats mehr oder weniger auswendig können (was weniger dramatisch ist, als es klingt, weil ich nur die Unterschiede zur vorherigen Auflage neu “lernen” muß, das ist nicht so viel) und zu dem anderen kann ich noch nichts sagen. Das liegt da seit zwei Tagen, aber reingelesen habe ich noch nicht.

Additionally a look on my bedside lecture. The yellow book I have more or less to know by heart until end of the month (what is less dramatic than it looks, because I only have to “learn” what is different from the last edition and that is not that much) and for the other one I can’t say anything yet. It sits on the table for two days, but I haven’t read a word of it.

Very fast fingerless mitts

Zumindest theoretisch, wenn man statt Maschenprobe erst mal eine Stulpe mit doch etwas zu kleinen Nadeln strickt, dann dauert es etwas länger.

At least theoretically. If you skip the gauge and knit one mitt with to small needles instead then it takes a bit longer.

HandstulpenIch hatte ein Knäuel “Joana” von Schachenmayr nomotto. Von dem hatte ich so ein- oder zwei Meter gebraucht, um einen Mütze fertig zu stricken. Also suchte ich was für das dicke Garn mit der eher kurzen Lauflänge.

I had one skein of “Joana” by Schachenmayer nomotta left. I had needed a bit more than one meter to finish a hat and was left with one not even full skein of a thick yarn with not to much meterage.

Und da fand ich bei ravelry dieses Modell: Bofur’s fingerless Gloves von Anya Lowery. Was mich fasziniert ist, daß dies wirklich die einfachste Konstruktion eines Handwärmers ist: Perlmuster, ein Schlitz für den Daumen… und es funktioniert! Die grobe Optik gefällt mir sehr gut. Dadurch daß die Finger und der Daumen weitgehend frei sind, kann man auch gut arbeiten. Die sollten eigentlich auch gut sein, um im Winter am Computer zu tippen. Dabei bekomme ich nämlich auch gerne kalte Finger. Ich gehe allerdings davon aus, daß ich das diesen Winter nicht mehr testen werde…

And then I found the Bofur’s fingerless Gloves pattern by Anya Lowery on ravelry. I am very fascinated by the extreme basic construction principle: Seed stitch, an opening for the thumb…. done. I like also the look a lot. Fingers and thumb are mostly free, so great to do some work. And they should be useful to type on the computer on cold winter days. I tend to get cold hands from this. But I do not think I will have to test it this winter...

Einziges Problem: Es ist immer noch Garn übrig… das war nicht so geplant.

Frogged one thousand times…

… und tausend mal neu gestrickt.

… and knitted again one thousand times.

Na gut, so schlimm war es nicht, aber für so ein kleines Teil, habe ich wirklich viel Zeit damit verbracht.

Okay, It was not that bad, but for a tiny item I’ve really spent a lot of time.

Es fing damit an, daß ich von diesem Loop noch etwas Garn (Noro Kureyon) übrig hatte. Und irgendwie dachte, von Farbe und Textur wäre es perfekt, für einen weiteren Pint Sized Tree von Julie Tarsha. Nur dafür reichte das Garn dann doch nicht.

It started with this cowl which left me with a bit of yarn (Noror Kureyon). And somehow I thought color and texture would be absolutely perfect to make another Pint Sized Tree by Julie Tarsha. Only it was not enough yarn.

Dann überlegte ich, daß man mit kleineren Nadeln ja weniger Garn verbraucht und strickte noch mal los. Und zog es wieder auf. Nahm kleiner Nadeln, strickte noch mal los… und zog es wieder auf. Bis ich bei 2mm Nadeln angekommen war. Dann fehlten nur einige Maschen.

The I figured out that you need less yarn, if you take smaller needles. And knitted again. And frogged again. Took smaller needle, knitted again…. frogged again. Until I arrived at 2mm/ #0 needles. Then I was only short by some stitches.

Also zog ich noch mal auf, aber nicht bis ganz zum Anfang sondern nur bis eine Reihe unter der ersten Verzopfung. Und… ja! Diesmal reichte es. Garn weg. Baum da. Alles gut. Aber gedauert hat der ganze Prozess von kurz nach Weihnachten bis Ende Februar.

So I frogged again. But not completely down to the beginning, but to one row before the first cabeling. And.. yes! this time the yarn was enough. All yarn used up. Tree finished. Everything is all right. But the whole process took from a few days after chrstimas until end of February.

Key Fish

Es kommt ja selten vor, aber gelegentlich wird meine Resteverwertung auch direkt weiterverarbeitet und verschenkt.

It is rare, but sometimes my using up remnants get there final destination right away.

Gestrickte MinifischeIch hatte sowohl von “Joey’s Baby Silk” von Queensland Collection ein paar Meter übrig, also auch von “Dream” von Tahki Yarns. Zusammengenommen reichte das noch für zwei winzige Fische nach der Anleitung Baby Fish von Ellen Diamond.

I had some few meters left from Joey’s Baby Silk” by Queensland Collection and “Dream” by Tahki Yarns. Taking that together it was just enough for two tiny Baby Fish after the pattern by Ellen Diamond.

Und da eine Freundin mit Vorliebe fürs Maritime Geburtstag hatte, wurde mit etwas Makramee, einigen Perlen und AlterfilS35 in blau ein Schlüsselanhänger draus. (Das Alterfil sieht man zwar kaum, es hat aber im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes die tragende Rolle. Als “Kern” der Makrameeknoten trägt es die Perlen und sorgt dafür, daß der Anhänger nicht gleich reißt, wenn man ihn das erste Mal aus der Hosentasche zieht. 😉 ) Und verschenkt ist er auch schon…

Also the birthday of a friend of mine was approaching, a friend who likes maritime motives and fish. So I added some Makramee and beads and AlterfilS35 in blue and voilà… we have a key ring. (The AlterfilS is hardly visible, but it is actually the most important part. It is the base of the makramee, carries beads and fish and gives the stability needed. So not everything will tear apart the first time you pull the key ring from your jeans pockets. 😉 ) And the gift was recieved with pleasure…

Circle Mitts are Fun!

Die rundgestrickten Stulpen machen wirklich viel Spaß, daher habe ich gleich das nächste Paar gestrickt.

The circle mitts are a lot of fun knitting, so I made the next pair.

Das praktische an der Anleitung ist, daß man ungefähr so viel Garn braucht, wie bei einem Paar Socken für mich übrig bleiben.

The other great thing is, that they need about the amount of yarn that is normally left after knitting a pair of socks for me.

Allerdings hatte ich aus dem “Regia Artic Color” Socken gehäkelt, das hatte mehr Garn verbraucht. Also habe ich noch etwas von dem grauen “Socks’ Wool Lucca” dazu genommen, Das bringt die Kreise besonders gut zur Geltung. 🙂

Only in this case I had crocheted socks from the other part of  “Regia Arctic Color”. And crocheted socks need more yarn. So I added some “Socks’ Wool Lucca” in grey which brings out the circle construction even better. 🙂

(Von dem bunten Garn sind gut acht Meter übrig, das graue Garn war also wirklich nötig.)

(And there are only a little more than 8 meters left of the selfstripeing yarn, so the grey one was really necessary.)

Mitts for an Organist

Orgelhandschuh“Das wäre zum Orgelspielen aber praktisch” sagte ein Freund spontan, als er mich hieran nadeln sah. Er mußte mir aber zustimmen, daß die doch ein wenig mädchenhaft sind. 😉

“That would be useful for playing the organ” a friend of mine said spontaneously when he saw me knitting those. But he agreed that they were a little too girly for him. 😉

(Für Nicht-Kirchgänger: die meisten Kirchen sind alt und nicht gut geheizt. Oder gar nicht, wie in diesem Fall.)

(For those who do not know: European Churches are often old and not well heated. Or not at all. As is the case for my friend.)

Aber das klang nach einem “Auftrag”, der mir Spaß machen würde, also ließ ich mir die Wunschmaße geben und strickte los. Wunschgemäß natürlich in einem frischen männertauglichen grau, sehr weiche Sockenwolle von Lana Grossa, Meilenweit 50 Seta/Cashemere.

But that sounded like an “order” that would be fun so I asked for the measurements he wanted and started knitting. The color he wanted was a fresh grey, of course. A very soft sock woll, Meilenweit 50 Seta/Cashmere by Lana Grossa.

Wenn ich schon keine Farbe nehmen durfte, habe ich mich an der Struktur ausgetobt: die Rippen des Armteils sind locker gezopft, auf dem Handrücken geht es dann mit sehr dichten Zöpfen weiter. Der Daumenzwickel ist extra mit etwas Mehrweite für die Bewegungsfreiheit gestrickt und die Zöpfe laufen dezent über den Daumen weiter.

Since I wasn’t “allowed” colors I played with texture: The ribs on the arm have loose cabels which get dense in the back of the hand. The thumb gusset is a little loose to make sure there is enough room for movements. And decent cables run up the thump.

Die Stulpen sind schön lang, um die Finger in den Spielpausen warm zu halten. Und wenn es ans Spielen geht, dann kann man das Bündchen vorne etwas zurückfalten.

The mitts are nicely long to keep the fingers warm while waiting. And to start playing one can fold it back a bit.

Mir hat das Stricken jedenfalls Spaß gemacht und mein Freund ist glücklich über seine Orgelhandschuhe. 🙂

I had a lot of fun knitting it and my friend is very happy about his organists mitts. 🙂

Ich fand das Konzept der Circle mitts von Sibyl R. auf Ravelry sehr interessant. Man fängt am Daumen an und strickt sich erst mal einen Kreis, der am Ende zusammengestrickt und mit Bündchen versehen wird.

I quite liked the concept of Circle mitts by Sibyl R. which I found on Ravelry. You start with the thumb and then you are knitting a circle which you close in the end before you add the cuffs.

Zum Glück habe ich auch noch selbstmusternde Sockenwolle (Regia Havanna Color von Schachenmayr nomotta) gefunden, um das auszuprobieren. Das Stricken macht viel Spaß, allerdings funktioniert das Konzept nicht so gut, wenn man die Handstulpen etwas länger haben will oder/und wenn man eher lange Hände hat. Dann sind sie nämlich zu weit, wenn sie hoch genug sind. (Das Problem war mit ein bißchen Auftrennen lösbar, wie man sieht.) Und genauere Vorschläge, wie man die Zunahmen im Kreis verteilen soll (nicht nur “nicht regelmäßig”) wären hilfreich gewesen, aber auch hier wurde es beim zweiten Handschuh dann besser.

Luckily I’ve found some remnant of self stripeying sock wool (Regia Havanna Color by Schachenmayr nomotta) in my stash. Knitting was huge fun, though the concept does not work completely if you want your mitts a big longer and/or have more longish hands. In that case they will be too wide when they have the right height. (It involved a bit of frogging, but I could solve the problem, as you can see.) Also it would have beennice to have more precise instruction where to add stitches for the circle (more exact than “not regular”), but the second one got better than the first.

Als Resultat gefällt es mir aber gut, Zumal die verbrauchte Menge ungefähr das ist, was nach einem Paar Socken für mich typischerweise übrig ist. Das werde ich sicher noch mal probieren.

But I like the mitts. Another plus is, that the amount of yarn used is about that what is typically left after a pair of socks for me. So I guess I will make another version…

I failed…

… ist der Versuch mich, die Handwärmer, Tageslicht und einen Photographen zusammen zu bringen. Zumindest bevor dieses Geschenk ab zur Post mußte. Daher ein “Handselfie” vom Modell “Fetching“.

… in my attempt to get mits, me, daylight and photographer togethere before this gift had to be shipped. So you can only have a “handselfie” of “Fetching“. 

Meine Mutter kam nämlich auch relativ kurz vor dem Fest mit dem Spontanwunsch nach fingerlosen Handschuhen… Bei dem bereits erwähnten Schnellbesuch in der Casa Lana fand ich dann “Garzatto Fleece” von Lana Grossa (Alpaka mit Poly), was ich mit 3,5er Nadeln sehr dicht zu den Handstulpen verstrickt habe. Das Zopfmuster kommt aus Alpaka nicht so gut raus, aber sie sind schön weich und ganz leicht. Und “Fetching” hatte ich schon zwei Mal gestrickt, da wußte ich, daß es schnell geht…

My mother also came up with the spontaneous wish for fingerless mits relatively short time before Christmas. So in the already mentionned short visit to Casa Lana I also picked “Garzatto Fleece” by Lana Grossa (alpaca – poly -blend) which I’ve knitted with 3.5mm needles to very dense mitts. The cables do not show well in Alpaca, but they are very soft. But I have already done Fetching twice, so I knew it would be a fast knit…
