Paris Fashion Week

It’s Fashion Week in Paris again and that means that every serious style and fashion blogger has to write about it (at least if feels like that) and showing pictures with cool and innovative Parisian street styles. Well, I am right now in Paris and it is Fashion Week now, so that should qualify me sufficiently to write about it, right? 😉

First… in about 95 percent of the city you will not even get a hint of this event. Life goes its normal way. I only noticed because I was at the Tuileries on Sunday and they were about to install big tents. As they have huge tents on the Place de la Concorde. They could not be missed somehow.

A very accurate observer might have noticed some highly styled girls that are posing in front of neutral walls, typical Parisian doors or in a bit run down alleys and have a friend taking pictures of them. You need to feed your own fashion blog for the event, might be someone is searching exactely for you on google. Also the observer might notice a certain number of very thin girls with absurdly long legs and unproportionally long shins who are pacing quite fast on flat soles through the central arrondissements.

If you then hit the right space (maybe a street in the Marais) at the right time, then you can observe a bunch of creatively dressed people who are standing somewhere outside and have all kind of photographic devices (from smartphone to SLR, everything is possible). That are the highly unimportant people and photographers which are easily recognizable by the fact they are outside. Though fashion bloggers can at least take pictures of each others styles. And some screams of excitement are fully on order. The real photographers are those who wear simple and comfortable clothes, have a slightly bored look and are dragging plastic tool boxes on wheels behind them. And of course your recognize them by the badge they are wearing and by the fact that the black suited guys open the entrance doors for them.

Basically all those people remain in a relatively small area, mostly in some streets of the Marais and the area Grand Palais, Concorde, Tuileries and Rue St. Honoré. That is where you then see all those “creative” styles a Parisian woman would never wear or at least not in town. And not at a completely unsuitable weather. (Okay, when they planned their styles months ago they probably could not know that it would be 24°C yesterday… and if that’s the IT piece of the season then you will wear fake fur in leopard pattern. Or you have to wear it, to be part of it.)

To sum it up: circus is in town and is taking pics of itself. As long as you have that in mind you can have fun with street style pics from the event in blogs and photostreams and you need not to be disappointed when you come to Paris at any other time and find no one who looks like that. 😉
