Barbie Kleid
Und schon wieder ist die Resteverwertung schneller abgelichtet, als das eigentliche Stück.

And again what I made from the remnants is faster photographed than the “real” piece.

Der Stoff ist ein bedruckter Single-Jersey in Grautönen, der Schnitt auch wieder aus dem Burda Barbieheft. Eigentlich ist es da ein elegantes Modell mit Federborte, aber mein Stoff war anders, also haben wir hier ein “normales” Maxidress. Sind ja gerade wieder in Mode, also geht jede Farbe. 😉

The fabric is a single jersey knit with a print pattern in different shades of gray. The pattern is from the Burda special magazine with the Barbie patters. There it is a highly elegant dress with a feather trim. My fabric was not fitting for that, so it became an “ordinary” maxi dress. Since they are a trend anyhow it’s right in any color and any pattern. 😉

Den Schnitt hatte ich ja als Kleid bzw. Nachthemd schon mal genäht und hatte eigentlich keine große Überraschung für die Variante als Oberteil erwartet. Aber diesmal hatte ich keinen hochelastischen Viscosejersey sondern einen weniger elastischen Ausbrennerjersey, auch aus Viscose.

I had already sewn the pattern in the dress version (used as a nightgown) and had not expected big surprises for the version as a top. But this time I did not have a highly elastic viscose knit but a not very elastic knit, also made of viscose.

Und das fällt ja völlig anders aus. Der Stoff ist ein Ausbrenner Jersey mit Leopardenmuster, ich denke von Tissus Reine in Paris und er ist innen sehr viel glatter als meine erste Version. So hat der Wasserfall Ausschnitt mehr stand, der Faltenwurf über dem Bauch fällt mehr oder weniger völlig nach unten. (Ich habe zwar etwa 3kg abgenommen, aber das macht ganz sicher nicht so viel aus.)

And the way it falls is completely different. The fabric is a knit without elasthan and it is very smooth at the inside. (I think I got it from Tissus Reine in Paris.) One difference is, that the cowl neck has more stand and falls not as softely, the other difference is that all the drapings over the belly are more or less falling down and mostly disappear. (I’ve lost 3kg since cutting the top, but that surely does not make so much of a difference.)

Das Rückenteil hatte ich in der Raffung noch mal um zwei Zentimeter gekürzt und die Seitennähte einfach gedehnt, bis sie die gleiche Länge wie die des Vorderteils hatten. Hier sind jetzt fast gar keine Falten mehr über dem Po, was aber kein Nachteil ist.

I had shortened the back by 2cm within the draped part and then stretched it at the side seams to give it the same length as the side seam of the front piece. Here the drapings over the bum have disappered nearly completely. Which is not exactely a disadvantage.

Im Ganzen trägt sich das Shirt aber bequem und ich mag es. (Photos diesmal Dank einer Freundin ohne Selbstauslöser.)

All in all the top wears comfortably and I like it. (And thanks to a friend who took the pictures so I did not need the remote control.)

Big Bow
Barbie im Schleifenkleid
Wie so oft habe ich meine Resteverwertung schon fertig und photographiert, das eigentliche Teil aus dem Stoff aber noch nicht. Also fertig schon, aber das mit dem Photo hakt mal wieder. Der Jersey mit dem Leopardenausbrenner wurde jedenfalls ein Barbiekleid und aus anderen Resten gab es Überrock mit viel Schleife.

As often I have finished and photographed my “remnants to Barbie” project while the project for me waits to have the picture taken. Here the blue animal jersey turned into a body con dress for the doll, while for the overskirt and huge bow I’ve used other, older remnants.

Der Schnitt stammt wieder aus dem alten Burdaheft mit Barbiemodellen und zeigt, daß ein verschlussloses Kleid ohne Abnäher dann irgendwann auch bei einer Puppe schwierig anzuziehen ist.

The pattern is again from the old burda mag with the patterns for Barbie dolls. And it shows well that a tight dress without darts and closure is difficult to put on, even on a doll.

Die Schleife sollte eigentlich mit Klettband auf dem Gürtel befestigt werden, da ich aber keinen Sinn darin erkannte, habe ich sie direkt aufgenäht. Geht nur von Hand, aber das wäre beim Klettband auch so gewesen. Außerdem gefiel es mir nicht, daß man hinten dann die Befestigungsstiche so sieht und ich habe noch einen Streifen drüber genäht.

The instructions tell you to attach the bow to the belt with velcro. I could not seen any advantage in doing so, so I’ve sewn it directly to the belt. That had to be done by hand, but that would not have been differently for the velcro. And what I did not like was, that all stitches remained exposed at the back of the bow. So I’ve hendsewn a strip of fabric over it. 

Was mir erst auffiel, als ich die Bilder betrachtet habe: Ich glaube, die Schleife hätte andersherum geschichtet werden sollen… Naja, so sieht es von Hinten besser aus.

What I only saw when regarding the pictures: I think I ‘ve stacked the bow pieces wrong, probably the smallest and the biggest should swap place… Well… as it is now it looks better from the backside.

Two of the same kind… for the second time

Nach dem Wäscheset hatte ich noch Unmengen Stoff übrig. Und da die linke Stoffseite nicht sehr glänzt, war das die Gelegenheit, mal wieder ein Shirt zu nähen. 2012 hatte ich ja diesen Schnitt nach Pattern Magic ausprobiert und wollte den schon die ganze Zeit mit kleinen Änderungen noch mal nähen. Das hat jetzt nur länger gedauert als geplant…

After sewing that  lingerie set I hat a lot of fabric left. The left side of the fabric is mostly matte so I thought making a shirt. 2012 I had tried this pattern after  Pattern Magic and I had always wanted to sew a revised version. That just took a little longer than expected… 

Diesmal habe ich das Vorderteil unter der Taille 5cm verlängert und das Rückenteil im gleichen Bereich 5cm gekürzt. Außerdem habe ich die Nähte mit einem elastischen Stich genäht. Da mein Stoff relativ dünn war, habe ich ihn für das kleine Vorderteil doppelt verarbeitet.

This time I lengthened the front by 5cm below the waist and shortened the back by the same amount. I used an elastic stitch for the assembly. Since my fabric is relatively thin I used two layers for the small front piece.

Im Ergebnis gefällt es mir vorne gut, hinten werde ich beim nächsten Versuch wieder auf die originale Länge gehen. Wobei dieser Stoff sich durch das viele Elasthan natürlich auch stärker zusammenzieht als meine erste Version aus Baumwoll-Interlock. Aber es ist wieder ein witziges Teil für die Freizeit.

Seeing the result I like the front, the length is just right there. For the back I will go to the longer original version for my next shirt. Though part of the shortness might be due to the high Elasthan content in my fabric compared to the first version which was from cotton interlock. But it is again a funny piece of leisure wear.

Fresh from the needles October 2016

Allmählich hat sich das gewohnte Projektchaos wieder breit gemacht…

Hoodie nach Hot Patterns
Genäht wird gerade ein Hoodie nach einem Schnitt von Hot Patterns. Mein erster dieser Firma, daher wird der Schnitt erst mal mit einem weniger spannenden Stoff getestet, bevor es an den Wolljersey geht. Der Schnitt hat mich bislang nur mittelmäßig begeistert, denn es sind so viele Größen auf dem Schnittbogen, daß die Linien (alle in Schwarz) oft zu einer dicken werden und man dann nur noch raten kann, was wohl die Schnittlinie sein könnte. Und die Nähanleitung führt aus meiner Sicht auch nicht zum schönsten Ergebnis. Da werde ich einiges ändern müssen. Dafür sitzen die Schultern aber bislang da, wo sie hingehören. Das ist bei mir ja nicht immer der Fall.

I am back to sewing big things, this time a hoodie after a pattern from Hot Patterns. It’s the first time I am using a pattern of that company so before I will cut my woolen knit fabric I am trying it in a less important fabric. The pattern did not excite me too much. There are a lot of sizes on the paper and often all those (black) lines converge into a very thick black line and you can only guess where the right size might be. Also the instructions do not give the best way to sew it IMHO. So for the second one I will have to make some changes. On the other hand the shoulders fall where they should and that is not often the case for me.
Socken
Socken habe ich noch mal Garn mit Baumwolle (TOM Cotton Strumpfgarn von Bärengarne) auf die Nadeln genommen, ganz ohne Muster geht es relativ schnell, die zweite Socke ist kurz vor der Ferse.

For socks I choose another time a sock yarn with cotton (TOM Cotton Strumpfgarn by Bärengarne) and I am knitting it plain vanilla, so it’s a relatively fast knit. The second sock is not far from starting the heel.
Tuch Trillian
Für ein Seminar brauchte ich dann noch mal ganz langweiliges Stricken, daher habe ich auch noch mal ein Tuch angefangen, diesmal “Trillian” nach Martina Behm aus Jawoll Magic von Lang Yarns. Keine Ahnung, ob ich das behalte. Das Garn war da, die Farben sind gar nicht so meins.

Then for a seminar where I was supposed to listen I needed a completely brainless knitting. So I started a simple triangular scarf, it’s “Trillian” by Martina Behm. The yarn is “Jawoll Magic” by Lang Yarns. Not sure if I will keep the scarf in the end, I needed something to knit, the yarn was there… but I am not sure if I can make any use of those colorways.
Stricktunika Raglan von oben
Und es gibt endlich mal wieder ein größeres Strickprojekt. Das soll so eine Art Tunika werden, mein erster Raglan von oben. Das Garn ist hier “Diva” von Le Mohair des Fermes de France. Das Ergänzungsgarn (wegen der Menge) hatte ich ja erst im Januar gekauft und habe die Tunika auch dieses Jahr schon angeschlagen. Für meine Verhältnisse ist das ganz gut.

I also started another bigger knitting project. It’s my first raglan from the top and it is supposed to become a kind of a flared tunic. The yarn is “Diva” by Le Mohair des Fermes de France. I only bought one color in January this year (which I needed because what I already had was not enough) and have started knitting it this year. Quite good for me.

Zum Abschluss noch der Blick auf die aktuelle Lektüre. Mit dem englischen Nähbuch bin ich immer noch nicht durch, das besteht doch aus viel Text und wenigen Bildern, dafür bin ich romantechnisch ein paar Werke weiter, hier bei einem sehr angenehmen Lesevergnügen mit vielen lebendigen Szenebeschreibungen.

And not to miss the look on my reading right now. I am still not finished with the Victorian Dressmaking Techniques. There are a lot of words and a lot of information densely packed. While on the novel side I have moved on by a few books, here a real reading pleasure with many lively described scenes.

Das ist zumindest mein Fazit, nachdem ich für meine neue Sonnenbrille ein Etui genäht habe.

That’s at least what I think now after I have sewn this case for my new sun glasses.

Nachdem ich endlich eine dunkelblaue Sonnenbrille gefunden hatte, hatte ich das Problem, daß die so große Gläser hat, daß sie in keines meiner vorhandenen Etuis gepasst hat. Und da es an Stoffresten und Verstärkung bei mir keinen Mangel hat, habe ich gedacht, ich nähe mir einfach selber eines. Passend zur Brille.

I was happy having found new sun glasses in navy. Just the glasses are rather large, so it does not fit into any of my existing cases. I did not feel like buying one and since I had a lot of fabric remnants and other material I thought sewing one in the right size for the glasses would be a good idea.
Sonnenbrille mit Hülle
Als Verstärkung habe ich Decovil von Freudenberg genommen, was so weit auch gut funktioniert. Als Außenstoff wurde es grauer Wollstoff mit blauer Spitze darüber, innen ein Rest dunkelblaue Seide. Schwierig wurde es, als ich die Seitenteile eingenäht habe. Die Rundung ist sehr stark, so daß letztlich der Nähfuß zu lang war. Auch der kürzeste, den ich hatte. Die Randeinfassung habe ich dann am Ende von Hand angenäht. Ach ja, geschlossen wird alles mit Klettband.

My outer fabric was a woolen fabric covered with some blue lace, inside I used some navy silk. For stability I used Decovil by Freudenberg. That works nicely. But sewing in the side panels properly was nearly impossible. The “roundness” is so steep, that that the pressure foot is simply to long to turn it around properly. Even the shortest one I had. So I ended making the binding with handstitches. Closure of the case is velcro, that was easy to sew on.

Das Ergebnis erfüllt seinen Zweck… aber der Weg ist so nicht empfehlenswert. Das mache ich nicht wieder. Lieber kaufe ich ein Etui. Oder finde eine andere Technik. :o)

The result is okay… but the way to get there is not really something I would recommend. I wont do it again. Better buying a case next time. Or finding a completely different technique. :o)

Neues Handy, neue Hülle…

New mobile phone, new case….

Nachdem mein Smartphone wegen hoffnunglos veralteter Software weder Bahntickets, noch Tickets der örtlichen Verkehrsbetriebe kaufen konnte, war es Zeit für ein neues Handy. Und da das Format anders ist, auch für eine neue Hülle.

The android of my smartphone was so old that I could neither buy train tickets nor tickets for the local transport system, so it was highest time for a new phone. Which has a different size from my old one, so I needed a new case also.

Wie meistens für so kleine Projekte habe ich Reste benutzt, grauer Wollstoff einer Hose mit etwas blauer Spitze darüber. Das Innenleben ist wieder Seide (weil das den Bildschirm automatisch reinigt), die Paspel außen auch. Geschlossen wird es mit Klettband. Zur Polsterung habe ich wieder Bosal In-R-Form Plus verwendet, das von beiden Seiten aufbügelbar ist. Machte die Verarbeitung sehr einfach und es gibt eine ausreichende Polsterung sowie ein wenig Stabilität. Besser als beim letzten Mal, wo ich Volumenvlies verwendet habe.

I used remnants as I normally do for such small projects. A grey woolen fabric from pants combined with some blue lace. Inside I used silk (which helps to clean the display automatically), the binding outside is the same fabric. The closure is some Velcro-type-tape. The fabric layers have Bosal In-R-Form Plus fused between. Made sewing easy and it gives the right amount of cushioning and some stability. I like it better than my last version where I used batting.

Ready for the Beach

Natürlich nicht ich, sondern mal wieder die Puppe. Ich meine, was sonst macht man mit einem Rest vom Dessoustoff?

Der Schnitt ist wieder von Burda, diesmal allerdings aus einem “normalen” Puppenheft und er war auch nicht für Barbie, sondern für eine anderen Ankleidepuppe. Aber so sehr unterscheiden sich die ja in der Figur nicht. Allerdings mußte ich den Träger gewaltig kürzen, etwa um die Hälfte, damit es keine oben ohne Variante wurde….

The pattern is again burda, but this time not from a Barbie mag, but a “ordinary” magazine with all kind of doll patterns. And it had not been shown on an original Barbie, but on another fashion doll. But they do not really differ in size. But I had to shorten the strap by about half the given lenght. Otherweise it would have been a topless version…

Royal blue underneath

Der Stoff war ja immerhin royalblau gewesen und so stand meinem nächsten Unterwäscheprojekt nichts im Weg. Der Schnitt ist zur Abwechslung mal ohne Bügel und mit durchgehendem Unterbrustband. Mein bewährter erster BH Schnitt aus dem Kurs bei Elingeria damals. Wie immer ist ein Untercup gepolstert. Dafür habe ich diesmal Bosal In-R-Form ausprobiert. Es wirkt an der Puppe etwas steif, wie es am Körper wird, wird man sehen. (Die Puppe ist ja nur eine Dekopuppe, die viel kleiner ist als ich.)

Since at least the fabric had been royal blue I could tackle my next dessous project. The pattern is my very first bra pattern from my class at Elingeria ages ago and it’s without wires for a change. One of the undercups is padded like always and this time I tried the Bosal In-R-Form I am having here. At the mannequin it seems a bit stiff, I have not tried how it feels on the body. (And the display dummy I am using is much small then me.)

Bh InnenansichtMaterial hatte ich ja reichlich bestellt… nur Bügelband hatte ich vergessen. Da ich den Rücken aber auch mit hautfarbenem Power Net gearbeitet habe, fällt das dann am Bügelband auch nicht mehr auf. Als Träger habe ich nicht das mitbestellte Material genommen, sondern eines, das ich noch hatte und das mir besser dazu gefiel.

I had ordered more than enough material… but not wire casing. Stupid me. But since I had used skin tone power net for the back part I used also skin tone wire casing. It’s inside. For the straps I did not use the one I had ordered, but another one I already had and which I liked better.

Panties in blauDazu passend habe ich mir drei Panties mit längerem Bein genäht. Statt im Sommer unter dem Kleid noch eine “Reibverhinderer” Panty über dem Slip zu tragen, habe ich einfach mal drei in passender Länge genäht…

Boring but for the records the three long legged panties. Instead of wearing a longer panty over the normal pantie to prevent chafing under a dress in summer I simply made three panties in the “right” length…

Brillenetui
So übersichtlich waren meine Projekte schon lange nicht mehr… an der Nähmaschine plage ich mich gerade mit einem Versuch ab, ein Brillenetui zu nähen. Für die Rundung bräuchte man allerdings einen kürzeren Nähfuß und vermutlich überhaupt eine andere Maschine.

It’s really a long time that I had so few projects going on. My sewing machine is fighting with the trial to sew a case for my new sunglasses. But the steep round part would require a shorter pressure foot. Or a different kind of machine.

Dann gibt es ein neues Paar Socken für die Straßenbahn. Diesmal mit Baumwollanteil in der Sockenwolle, in dem Bereich bin ich ja nach wie vor nicht ganz so prächtig ausgestattet.

Then I have started a new pair of socks for knitting on trains and on the Strassenbahn. This time made of a sock wool with cotton, I do not have so much of that kind.

Tja, und das war es tatsächlich schon. Der Lace-Schal wartet auf die Gelegenheit geblockt zu werden, die Socken sind auch fertig, fehlt nur noch das Bild… Die Bettlektüre ist einmal eine Replik eines alten Nähbuches. (Was übrigens vor mehr als hundert Jahren als Buch mit “neuen” Nähtechniken verkauft worden war…) Und ein Roman, den ich schon mal gelesen habe. Was aber lange genug her ist, um mich erneut dran zu erfreuen.

And that was it… The lace shawl waits for beeing blocked, for the socks I only need the picture… My reading on the night stand is a replica of a more than 100 years old sewing book. (Which at that time had been sold as a book with modern sewing techniques…) and a novel I had been reading years ago. Long enough, to enjoy it again.
