Nasskalter Nadelblick Dezember 2018

Cold and wet needles December 2018

Late and few but not completely in a Coma…

The tunic I had started two month ago has surprisingly been finished by now. But I could not decide to pose outside for a pic… since then Christmas is the focus. My cards are nearly finished (most of them even written and posted or ready to be), for the rest it takes mostly glueing.

Lace SchalDie Lace-Stola hat wegen dringenden Weihnachtsstrickens schon seit einigen Wochen Pause. Bis in den 14 Rapport war ich gekommen. (Muster ist immer noch “Double-Bordered Scarf with Diamond Borders Adapted from Weldon’s” aus Victorian Lace Today, Garn “Diva” von le mohair des fermes de France).

My lace shawl is hibernating due to really urgent Christmas knitting. I had reached repeat 14 before that. (Pattern is still “Double-Bordered Scarf with Diamond Borders Adapted from Weldon’s” from Victorian Lace Today, yarn “Diva” by le mohair des fermes de France).

Socke im AbkettenÄhnlich hektisch war die Ablage bei meinen “Tipsy Toe Socken” (aus “Cotton Kolibri Color” von Schachenmayr Regia). In der letzen Abkettrunde….

How sudden things went into hibernation can be seen on my “Tipsy Toe Socks” (from “Cotton Kolibri Color” von Schachenmayr Regia). It just takes half a round of casting off the cuff….

Though all that hibernation won’t help my brothers Christmas socks. He had called for something special where there does not exist a suitable pattern for. Three colors in the leg part… tedious and long. Also that is something that can not be knitted on a train or while concentrating on something else. We are only 18 days away from Christmas and that is the first sock. If I get that one finished by time I can be happy.

(And reading… only magazines.)

Frischer Nadelblick: Oktober 2018

Fresh from the needles: October 2018

A bit has changed over the last two month, but not great progress.

When writing the magazine review about the “Meine Nähmode” in July I had already announced I wanted to sew the off shoulder tunic. Especially since I was sure to own the perfect white fabric for that purpose. And right now, because it was still summer. Well… until the “just that little project before” and the darning stack had been worked through summer was over. And when searching through my fabrics I realized that evidently I had let go that fabric, since I had never found a use for it in over ten years. But there was another fabric also with an eyelet embroidery side. But that was not a simple white one but with printed roses and the kind of a fabric I really do not want to mess up because I love it a lot. So… the one of a kind tunic will need a test garment before. I found this blue-grey voile which should be fine, if I can squeeze all my pattern pieces out of it. But I did copy the pattern, made all alterations and the next step will be cutting the fabric. Whenever.

(Der BH ist noch nicht fertig. Ich vergesse immer die Tauchgänge im Lack.)

(The bra has not been finished. I keep forgetting to dip the wires.)

My lace scarf is just a bit more than halfway done, 11 repeats of 20. But the pattern does no longer require too much attention.

More progress on my “Tipsy Toe” Socks. I’ve started the second leg. On the other hand… her I should hurry a bit. Not because I need the socks so urgently (sock wool with cotton means they will be needed next summer), but I should start my brothers christmas socks. Especially since I am a very slow knitter at the moment and he required something complicated….

Not really fun either my nightstand book. Hard to read and its a comment on some changes that does not answer as many questions as I had hoped for and not with the precision I had liked…

Heißer Nadelblick: August 2018

Hot needles: August 2018

If my needles were running hot over the last months it was not due to me working with them, but only due to the temperatures outside…. But I made a third bra from the pink material. The “last mile” will take some time here, because I had to shorten the wires and they will need several dips in the varnish to be sealed. Having them dry well between two dips. Which means I will usually forget about them until I remember to do the next dip weeks later…

It might look like trying accupuncture, but it’s the remnants of ma dassous fabric  getting transformed in a bikini swimsuit for a Barbie doll. Let’s see how long it will take me to finish such a tiny project.

Since my last lace project was a bit of a disappointment I went back to reliable patterns from the Victorian Lace Today book. The pattern has the slightly complicated name “Double-Bordered Scarf with Diamond Borders Adapted from Weldon’s, 1904“. What drew my attention to it was the way it is constructed: It is basically only border pattern on both sides, connected with a few stitches in mesh pattern between. Th rows are always one off, so it takes a bit of concentration for counting. But the pattern itself is rather easy, so that is not really complicated. The yarn is the huge remnant of “Diva” by “Le Mohair des Fermes de France”.

Two moth ago I’ve shown the beginning of a sock, the Tipsy Toe Socks by Sybil R. They are still in the game. I have nearly reached the cuff. Of the first sock… I had to shorten the heel a bit, otherwise the sock would have been to long. Measuring is not so easy. Yarn is still „Cotton Kolibri Color“ by Schachenmayr Regia.

Few crafting but on my last Paris trip I managed to finish a lot of periodicals and started the next book. But when I came home I was swamped again with periodicals, so the book reading stopped after a few pages… let’s see when I will find the time to continue.

Aktueller Nadelblick Oktober 2016

Fresh from the needles October 2016

The multi-project mode is back again…

I am back to sewing big things, this time a hoodie after a pattern from Hot Patterns. It’s the first time I am using a pattern of that company so before I will cut my woolen knit fabric I am trying it in a less important fabric. The pattern did not excite me too much. There are a lot of sizes on the paper and often all those (black) lines converge into a very thick black line and you can only guess where the right size might be. Also the instructions do not give the best way to sew it IMHO. So for the second one I will have to make some changes. On the other hand the shoulders fall where they should and that is not often the case for me.
Socken

For socks I choose another time a sock yarn with cotton (TOM Cotton Strumpfgarn by Bärengarne) and I am knitting it plain vanilla, so it’s a relatively fast knit. The second sock is not far from starting the heel.
Tuch Trillian

Then for a seminar where I was supposed to listen I needed a completely brainless knitting. So I started a simple triangular scarf, it’s “Trillian” by Martina Behm. The yarn is “Jawoll Magic” by Lang Yarns. Not sure if I will keep the scarf in the end, I needed something to knit, the yarn was there… but I am not sure if I can make any use of those colorways.

I also started another bigger knitting project. It’s my first raglan from the top and it is supposed to become a kind of a flared tunic. The yarn is “Diva” by Le Mohair des Fermes de France. I only bought one color in January this year (which I needed because what I already had was not enough) and have started knitting it this year. Quite good for me.

And not to miss the look on my reading right now. I am still not finished with the Victorian Dressmaking Techniques. There are a lot of words and a lot of information densely packed. While on the novel side I have moved on by a few books, here a real reading pleasure with many lively described scenes.

Maßvolle Messeshopping in Paris

Modest shopping in Paris

Going to L’Aiguille en Fête in Paris was basically “work” because I went to write an article for Hobbyschneiderin24, but there was a bit of shopping for me also…

What I had planned for was buying that lovely yarn. In France there is the organization Le Mohair des Fermes de France who takes the fibers from small breeders of mohair goats, spins and dyes it and gives it back to the breeders so they can sell it on their own. And a long, long time ago (2007 says my blog) on one of those farmes I’ve bought six fluffy skeins of yarn. (After playing with the baby goats…) I could not buy more because I did not have more cash.

My plan was to knit a shawl, but the longer I had the yarn the more I was sure I wanted to become a tunic. Only I did not have enough yarn for that. One ball is just 25g… And of course you can’t buy it in yarn shops, its for the individual farmers to sell it. But when studying the list of the exhibitors I saw that the yarn would be on sale on the fair. 🙂 (In the end there were several exhibitors who carried it.) So I took one of my red skeins with me and choose seven brown ones at La Ferme d’Amalthée. (No chance to get the same dye lot after so many years. :o) ) Not sure if I will knit it in 2016 or 2017. But I do not intend to let it sit for so many years again.

Not so well planned was buying this pen. Doesn’t look any special. But it can write with a fine tip on fabric. I’ve already had the idea that something like that would be useful, so I took it when I saw it.

Then I decided it was time to go home… before I would shop more than my luggage could hold… 😉
