Why can’t I leave a comment?

I know that sometimes people wonder why they can’t leave a comment here (like when they send me a message in a forum or an email) so here some words about how the comments on this blog work.

In general everyone can leave a comment here, but if you are a first time commenter (so you name and email is not known to the system) it is automatically moderated. You know, the spam problem… but that alone is not enough to prevent spam so I am using a filter also. So some words that appear often in spam comments are blocked and the comment won’t get through. I am sorry to say that this includes also everything with „.ru“ and „.pl“. I have nothing against people of Poland or Russia, but spammers are to often using web addresses with those endings, so I had to put them on the filter. If you come from one of those countries you can still leave a comment, just do not fill in email or blog address (if hosted under these extensions) in the file, give only your name and leave the comment. Because in general comments are free on this blog, you are not required to leave any information about yourself. (It’s a pity for me that I can’t check your blog in those cases, but I can’t help it.)

So with those setting the blog operates most of the time. Except… when I know that I won’t have the time to check for comments several times per day. Like when I am working with clients, when I’m on holiday or away from home for other reasons, when I’m ill… whatever. In that case I have to include something else on my filter: „.com“. Since many spam mails use fake gmail.com email addresses those settings do make a big difference. (The difference between 0-5 spam/24hrs and 80-120spam/24hrs. Just to five you a picture what would await me after a two week holiday if I would not take those measures.) Unfortunately this will also apply to those who are no first time commenters. 🙁 I am not happy with it but I have not the means to change it at the moment. The solution is the same as above: When your comment does not appear and you do not see the message that it will be moderated, the leave out any URL or email address that contains „.com“ and the comment will get through. 🙂

… is needed when you finish a gift some hours before the wedding and the local supermarket sells gift paper but no Scotch tape.

As you can see… we found those clamps to secure table cloth against small children who try to tear it down. (Or drag themseves up…) They secure the gift paper perfectly well. And can be used afterwards for their original purpose. 🙂

Und der Gewinner ist…

And the winner is….

Lose schreiben… first of all myself, because I’ve seen some blogs I didn’t know so far. 🙂

And I know I have 19 readers. Or 19 readers who would like to have something from me, all others are reading with disgust. *g*

Lose in KisteToday I had finally the time to draw the winner.

The number of participants wasn’t that big, so I made the drawing the old way. By hand.

Identical pieces of paper came from the note pad.

Then writing one name per paper and folding it.

GewinnerinEinen Karton hatte mir Amazon heute zufällig geliefert, also nahm ich gleich den.

Gut durchschütteln, Augen zu und reingreifen…

Amazon had delivered a box today, so I just used what was there.

Then shaking well, closing my eyes and catching one paper…

Mal sehen, was mir da so einfällt… 🙂

The winner is Viola, she’ll get a Christmas parcel from me. Let’s see what I will come up with…

Tausend!

Thousand!

I just recognized, this is my blog post 1000! Unbelievable, isn’t it?

It all started November, 15th 2005 on the Burda web site. And I only started the blog because the admin then was getting on our nerves in the Chatroom about the brand new blogging feature they had and that they really wanted someone to use it. So finally I gave in and started blogging…

And even though I absolutely wanted to stick to German because my English isn’t that good (and I thought there were already enough more interesting blogs in better English around) and I didn’t have the time to do it bilingual I started English versions in summer 2007.

And now it is nearly sex years and one thousand posts. *gulp*

After a while I moved on to Hobbyschneiderin where I can have a WordPress blog. Burdablogswere never very comfortable to use and also there were changes happening on their website that made me aware of the fact, that they might turn the blogs down completely. For a certain time I maintained both blogs, but also moved all older posts here, one by one. (The Burda blogs did not have a working export function…) Which was a good decision because one day Burda closed down the blogging function. (Which was not a real loss because they were clumsy to use and I think there were no more than two or three regular users.)

Was drin ist?

One thousand isn’t bad so I decided to celebrate it with a little drawing.

Everyone who leaves a comment here within the next three days (until october, 11th, Cologne time) will be in.

I will draw one winner who will receive a little parcel before Christmas. What’s in there? I don’t know… we’ll see. 🙂 If you have a blog leave your blog address with the comment. I will read the blog of the winner and try to find out what he (or rather she) might like. (And there is the chance to write more about yourself in the days and weeks after the drawing. 😉 )

If you don’t have a blog write three things you like and three things you don’t like in the comment so I will try to guess from that.

Of course I’ll also ship internationally.

Now let’s see how many readers are left after thousand posts. 😉
